  1. I now do an hour every day on a mountain bike but on road. I'd love to go back to the road bike and do 5hr rides like i did from 1989 to 2020 but the UK (Scottish in particular) weather is so poor these last 4 years.

  2. I was taught way back when that the pulling line doesn't speed up, the recovery line slows down slightly. Too bad no one is taught that these days

  3. Cycling to work isn't the RIGHT choice. It's AN OPTION. Stop trying to force your mate to do something they obviously aren't interested in. And I say this as a cyclist. Not everyone wants to ride. Not everyone should. Some walk/run some taking public transport, some drive.

They might have their reasons for driving. They might go gym every day instead. They might not want to deal with the risk of riding, they might not have the energy/medical issues.

It's one thing to encourage and support friends that want to cycle..it's another to put peeope off with constant advocacy.

Let your mate do what he wants. If he shows interest then foster it.

  4. 30 minute ride to work is easy provided there is a bike lane or bike path. I can understand why some people would be affraid if there wasn't any as they'd have to deal with crazy drivers and tradies in the morning and mums on school runs in the afternoon.
Best to wake up at 4:30am and do a quick spin 😅

  5. Thats when kids are brought to school by parents in the (automatic) car. They need a youtoube video to learn how to shift gears on their bike at age 35 🥴. And e-shifting isn't making it better. Learn shifting with an old friction shifter and you are never even thinking about it.

  6. WTF is it about English-speakers and alcohol? Brits, Canucks, Yankees are all the same – for them beer, wine, etc. seem all about getting drunk! Some is good, more is better and then you have screwball stuff like "Sober October"! WTF just be sober all the time…as in enjoy alcohol in a responsible manner? I enjoy wine with meals almost every day but the last time I overdid it was years ago…in the USA! Do you people simply not have any self-control? At meals time after time I watch English-speakers aghast at the thought of leaving some wine in the bottle. They'll stop EATING when they're full but they'll drain the last drop outta the wine bottle. WHY?

  7. Tubeless – you may NEVER puncture again. Sure! Until the sealant dries up…then what? Fat, low pressure MTB tires – OK, if you want to deal with dried-up sealant regularly, but narrow, high-pressure road tires don't seem so happy with the idea. I would have advised the gravel rider to maybe put on some wider tires he could run at lower pressure before spending the time and money with road tubeless. You can't unspend all the money you spend with tubeless wheels, tires, sealant, plugs, etc. so try the cheaper way FIRST!

  8. There are healrh problems with riding on a road with petro vehichles . That is a 2 prong problem . The big problem is being hit by a vehicle but the more suttle reason is the toxic vapors you breath in while riding . Now does that get negated by the fitness that may inprove . Its probably a wash with no benifit . Now if cycling away from polluted air than you are getting a decent benifit . Cycling in big Chinese cities is probably not healthy and cycling indoors on a trainer woukd be better but not so much fun . Its sad this is the way it is . The hope that evs could solve this problem for urban areas seems to struggle to get people to understand the benefit to localized air quality .

  9. “Building mental resilience” is a major benefit, and absolutely one of the things ive noticed the most having been commuting the last 13 months. Additionally, I can guarantee most days I get into work pumped and sometimes even elated, an no one else I see when I arrive resembles that mindset.

  10. Regarding Coaches , I'm a Masters Rider , absolutely love the sport and anything related , changed coach 3 times this last 5 years and the latest been with him for just over 2y , the biggest issue with coaches is when they outgrow their own capabilities (in terms of managing certain numbers of persons ) and decide to do the most common mistake
    COPY
    Paste
    Training between athletes.
    😅
IF You you find trainings with odd targets , instructions or even other names , just move away.

This was one of the reasons I've decided to take coach course/education to be able to help others and offer coaching adviced and help .
some of the things you mentioned are already my daily practices, gym , indoor specific, race focused , and even Taylormade sessions , pre race analysis , etc etc
The only difference between me and my previous coach is that I'm there and I've set a ceiling on how many riders I can work with (I have 9-5 job).
Trick here is to keep your numbers low and do your best with your people.❤
