BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Our area’s other municipally owned golf course is celebrating its recent upgrades with a contract extension.
Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham announced that it is extending the management agreement with Indigo Sports to operate Ely Park Golf Course through 2028. The national firm took over running the course in 2021.
Since then, memberships have nearly doubled and the number of rounds played this year was 32,000, 51% more than before Indigo took over.
Kraham says the management firm has made significant upgrades to the quality of the grass. That includes through aeration of the greens, spraying for snow mold and overall superior maintenance. The city has also invested in improved cart paths, better drainage and the leasing of new golf carts.
Kraham says longtime players at Ely have been raving about the results.
“This decision to move from either city ownership or a local management to a national firm to manage it has been one of the best decisions in the history of the City of Binghamton parks system. Brad Smith, General Manager, and the entire team up here at Ely Park have really delivered results for golfers,” said Kraham.
A large deck was recently added onto the clubhouse to help with tournaments and to host live music events.
Kraham says with most available tee times filled and the course in great shape, the next focus is on expanding the golf course’s food and beverage business. He says the course is close to being financially self-sustaining.
