“The state models showed us taking a lot of water.”
DAKOTA DUNES, SD (KTIV) – Since Two Rivers Golf Course saw record amounts of flood waters back in June they have been in the recovery process.
The course was covered in water, silt, and debris, and the future was uncertain. Decisions were weighed on whether or not to repair the course.
“First you assess, we do have a responsibility to our ownership. Are we going to reinvest in this? What’s the best path? There was no hesitation,” said Slater.
Staff began the process of cleaning and rebuilding the golf course in July. Repairs to the clubhouse, reseeding and sanding fairways and greens, and changing some cosmetics on the course.
Despite the flood water damage, the Two Rivers staff still wanted to have golfers out on the course. A temporary clubhouse was used in order for nine holes of golf, to still service the golfers in the community.
“We started getting phone calls right away from local courses that offered help. So Jeff Donaldson at Sun Valley and Scott Harmelink at Green Valley, they were two of the first people to reach out and they offered our customers complimentary green fees to play their course instead of ours if we were unable to serve them,” said Slater.
Slater added that he’s excited to have golfers back next season to experience all Two Rivers will have to offer, and to thank them for their help during flood recovery.
“We’re not where we’re at without the help of the people around us,” said Slater.
Slater says he’s optimistic by the spring of 2025, golfers will be able to enjoy a full 18 holes.
