NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – There’s a new disc golf course in Trumbull County.

Stevens Park in Niles is having a grand opening for the course this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be raffles and giveaways.

In addition to the course itself, there will be opportunities to learn how to play and participate in a putting contest.

Kids can get a free disc — there are 75 available. There will also be free discs for the first 25 adults there on Saturday.

The project to install the course cost about $14,000, about half of which was paid for with a grant from the Trumbull County Combined Health District.

Work on the course was completed earlier this month.

Plans to have one installed in the city date back to 2019, but it was originally slated for a different city park.

“It seems as though the people who are prone to disc golf like that wooded-type area for the disc golf course. It offers a different challenge, if you will so, we thought that this would be a perfect fit for it,” said Mayor Steve Mientkiewicz.
