Ironically I just finished building the 28th set of Takomo irons this morning. The quality control of all their products is as good as any of the big brands. I have always been a big Ping fan and played them for years but switched to Takomo two years ago and never looked back. JD
A bit of an off topic question… @jamesrobinson, what company make your joggers.? They look great. 👌🏼
Takomo v Caley…🤔
I'm over the big brands. Im pretty sure my next set will be DTC.
I prefer the 101t lofts.
With the i530 you'll need some wierd 47° wedge or their AW to bridge the gap to your normal GW
How about a comparison test of Takomo 101t vs. Calyx?
Great review! Love it! How would you rate the mizuno 245’s.. to the takomo’s..
thank you!👊
Oops, Caley?
Really good video, it just shows there is now a choice/alternative throughout golf equipment 👍 To have a real test between them if that’s what you want to do, you’d have to have a robot hitting both clubs. Your swing will never be the same on each hit.
Ping all day ..
Such a Takomo fan boy, can't watch anymore, thought impartial advice was what i would get here but it seems someone has sold out .
For the money and the quality, the 101t are fantastic. i used mizuno for years, and I tried the 101t s and been in the bag ever since i love em.
they are £500 now. Nov 2024
I have a set of 101T, and tbh they are fantastic, so consistent, it's unreal. I would rather pay less and have lessons or play more golf, I was a 21 handicap when I bought them, and now a 16.5 played today and shot 84.
Well, that's put the cat amongst my pigeons! I was about to pull the trigger on a set of 101T's, but as I can't afford a new set from the big brands, I think I'll have to look at used now.
I feel like I'm too good for regular 101's, though my golf friends would probably dispute that 😁
By the way, it's only a fraction cheaper to buy just the Takomo heads. Trust me, I have checked!
It would be interesting to see the resale value of both sets when it became time to change them.
Lots of comments below on the different lofts. Usually you would be on to this significant difference, but you seem to have forgotten this important parameter. Why did this happen?
what's an i535?
I play ping eye 2 BECU irons and they are like butter. Love the takomo copper if I could get a set.
I loved my i525 so much I bought i230 on a deal
Now I’ve got a summer and a winter set and my 230 cost me the same NEW as the takomos
Great review. Very balanced. Nice job.
Out of interest, What's the relationship you have with takomo? They feature in your bag and in lots of videos. Are you just a fan or do you have a commercial relationship?
Try the new Haywood v2 or PD1 irons
I think that it depends on your budget both will do the job all depends on what you can afford. I have to say the engineers at Ping are well ahead of other companies and they have to get paid.
So guys! I hold my hands up on this one, I misread the lofts thinking they were closer when really the pings are way strong. Let me know if you’d like me to re do the test maybe with retro lofts or with some other irons. Once again thanks for the support and sorry if it’s ruined your Monday like it seems to have for some 🙌🏼⛳️❤️
Ok, but you're a golf professional. What about someone with a higher handicap 15 or even 25. How much better are they? 'm glad you compare them. What about miss hits and toe and heel hits like me hitting them. The $500 difference is more to someone like me who only plays a few times each month and my golf season is May- September. Great video and content. 👍
I definitely lost a club in length when I switched to the 101T's.
No mention of the shafts in these shafts ? I’m assuming you ordered them with the same shaft
Ping all day long
Cant save a fortune if paying fitting fees?
Not surprised that the i530 PW went farther, it's a 42° loft. The 101T PW is 46°.
The 101T 9-iron is 41°.
These reviews are utterly pointless. Comparing two irons with different shafts perhaps…. Two different loft specs. And he's got the ping red dot which is not standard lie…. What use is this. Would expect, at least for you too, say that they have the same shafts in them.
Loft explains the range diff. the dispersion is the most interesting factor
Hard to feel this is unbiased when you have a Takomo staff bag in the background. Also start the video with saying “I’ve never really liked Pings” 🤔
Is that a V8 powered golf cart? Sounds amazing!!
Why does the title say i535? lol
Happens! But probably worth a re-do then. Don’t want anyone make the wrong conclusions I guess?
Regardless, given some of the data showed such differences, the review / interpretation seemed very biased towards takomo. Like, hitting both pitching wedges and thinking they had similar lofts, the takomo seemed short and made me think they had the problem of other hollow irons in the past where the PW is too short compared to the other irons.
Now test the Maltby TS1 IM, Maltby TS3, or Maltby TS4
JAMES what are your thoughts of the Takomo 101's vs the PXG Black Ops having a difficult time choosing a new iron or even the ELEVEN's ? I am 59 and an 8 handicap father time is taking its toll artritis too what i am looking for is somethin thats forgiving yet fun to hit what are your thoughts James I am unable to hit any of them I know my fitting stats so will be ordering them online great video James cheers from Vulcan Canada
You would get your money back with ping.
What are the lofts of the PW
The Pings look so sexy!
You should re-do this video. You should be comparing the 101 vs i530 as far as lofts go. A little surprising you didn’t see the difference in lofts
While there is an obvious difference between the clubs with loft of almost one club length. The obvious solution would be to compare as close as possible identical lofts rather than the number stamped in the head. What is the difference in shaft length?
Would be good if you could do testing with SGGT you could have identical shafts on the different heads.
Ultimately it comes down to the club an individual feels most comfortable with
