Golf Digest has published its biennial ranking of the 50 best golf teachers in America for 2017/18.
While the ranking in itself is controversial there is no dispute that coaches on the list profit from the publicity. Those coaches are able to demand a hefty premium for their services.

I took this “top 50 list” and compiled a top ten list of hourly fees. In some cases coaches don’t offer single hours of coaching. Here I estimated a “half day” with 4 hours and a “full day” with 8 hours.
While this top ten is not an absolute, it’s safe to assume that not many other golf coaches in the world are being able to charge those sums.
You will be the judge of who is worth it.
Key factors for being a top earner seem to be:
– making the Golf Digest top 50 list
– Tour presence
– media presence
– association with top Tour players (but not necessarily winning)
– some sort of Trademark: clothes, a method, a swing…
– books, videos, dvds, schools…
– location of your teaching home base
– with a few exceptions: being an old shriveled up white man 😉
notes:
The top charger charges a 50% surcharge if you want him to come to you to spend the day.
Not on the top 50 list and hence not on my top ten but an “honorable mention”: Mitchell Spearman $700/ph

“Hello Sunshine” by Curtis Wiley and Ronald Boustead, Nightingale Music Library
“Stay with you” by Silent Partner
