One week after Donald Trump’s return to the White House was confirmed, South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol has started practicing golf in preparation for future diplomatic meetings.

Yoon and Trump have yet to hold the highest political offices in their countries at the same time.

Trump left office in January 2021 after being defeated by Joe Biden in his first bid for reelection. Yoon took office in 2022.

As Trump gets back into the Oval Office in January, Yoon is trying to get a one-up on other world leaders to have time with one of his critical international allies.

Yoon ‘recently began practicing golf again for the first time in eight years, in preparation for “golf diplomacy” with President-elect Trump,’ per CNN, in ‘following the advice of those around him.’

Trump played golf with former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe a few times during his first term in office. Abe was assassinated in 2022.

During his first public comments after winning back the White House, one of the people to get a shoutout from Trump was golfer Bryson DeChambeau, who he has been golfing with before.

Yoon knows Trump was friendlier than most other world leaders to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un with hostilities continuing between the countries.

One of the major tasks for Trump’s return to the White House is to curtail American foreign policy with multiple wars going on in other countries.

No foreign leader has met with Trump in person since he secured a return to the White House.

Yoon’s trips to the links is one unique way he is hoping to stay on Trump’s good side.
