Learn what the golf rules say when you the player or your equipment cause your golf ball that has come to rest move out of its resting position.

[Music] hello everyone and welcome to G golf I am Jim and welcome to today’s golf rules tip a ball at rest moved by the player now we’re going to go through several examples in this video be sure to watch the entirety of this video because you’re probably going to learn something and learn how to play the game the correct way and possibly save you some Strokes let’s start out here on the teeing area when you’re on the teeing area the golf rules are very kind to us I’ll demonstrate some ways that you the player may cause your ball to move I’ve got my golf ball teed up right here and like many of you uh sometimes I will take practice swings here off the golf ball and you’re perfectly allowed to do that so you may be over here taking a couple practice swings as part as your routine I have not addressed the golf ball yet and you get up here and do another one I’ll do one more it’s hard for me to do this and oh my goodness I just hit my golf ball as I was taking a practice swing I was not at the point where I was addressing the golf ball I was off to the side and by accident I just struck my golf ball many of you perhaps some of this has happened to you just think you hit shot one you did not again you have not addressed the golf ball go retrieve that ball that one Advanced a little ways up I would retrieve it put it back on the tee anywhere on the teeing area and hit shot one free of charge if it just barely if you just barely nip it off there perhaps hit the te and the ball just stays in a teeing area that again you’ve not hit your first shot because you haven’t addressed the golf ball pick that ball up Tee It Up anywhere inside the teeing area free of charge no penalty hitting shot number one another common incident that happens is when you go to address the golf ball in the teeing area let’s say I get up here and I address the ball and I’m looking up and I just bump my ball I know many of you this has happened and all your buddies say oh there’s one and that’s not correct again golf rules are very kind to us here on the teeing area I simply can put that pick that ball up and rete it anywhere I can put it right back on that Tee I just pulled it up for example maybe I want to move spots pick it up rete that ball get back in my routine and hit shot number one here on the teeing area so again here on the teeing area if I for some strange reason get distracted maybe I heard somebody or maybe somebody in the other green is talking to me and I get distracted and I start walking and and I bump my ball by accident again it has to be by accident if I make any accidental movements of the golf ball here before I uh start my swing I can simply pick that ball up and rete it in the teeing ground without penalty hitting shot one now let’s move on to a different area of the golf course the general area this part of the golf course includes the Fairway the rough and The Fringe or the collar around the putting greens when your ball has come to rest in the general area of the golf course the golf rules are very uh different than they were on the teeing area if you the player caus that golf ball to move my my golf ball here at a home practice range has come to rest in the rough here just off the green you can see my FL is my golf hole today so it’s come to rest inside the general area if me the player which includes my golf club my body even my golf bag anything’s considered part of my equipment cause that golf ball to come out of its resting place it is a one-stroke penalty if I put it back and it’s a two-stroke penalty if I don’t and I just go hit it let me demonstrate a couple different ways that you the player could cause your golf ball to move one of the most common is when we address the golf ball if I get up here to hit my shot address the golf ball try to get it to do it now okay there there it did it I addressed the golf ball and it has rolled out of its resting place either the player have caused it to do that if wind had done that before I got up here or gravity there would be no penalty I come up here and went to address the golf ball it is rolled backwards even if it rolled forward it doesn’t doesn’t matter it’s come out of its resting place if I strike that ball right now and just say hey it didn’t move far and I hit it it is a two-stroke penalty got to add two strokes to your score I got to put it back replicate it replicate its lie and then now I can get in here be a little more careful hit the ball and I still got to add one penalty stroke again very different here in the general area if you’re taking your practice swings and you bump your ball or nip it same thing happens you got to go and put it back and again that would be a one stroke penalty if you go hit it wherever it goes then that’s a two-stroke penalty if your golf ball in a high wind excuse me golf bag rather in a high wind situation blows over and knocks your ball out of its resting place because that’s considered part of your equipment I’ve actually seen this happen uh you got to put that ball back with a one-stroke penalty if you go play it uh even if it’s in a worst spot it’s a two stroke penalty now let’s talk about what happens if your ball has come to rest on the putting green and you the player cause it to move and come out of its resting place the golf rules return to being nice to us here much like the teeing area they’re very lenient unlike the general area so when your balls come to rest on the putting green if I the player either by my putter my body my ball marker caus the ball to move I simply put the ball back no penalty so for example if I go up to Mark the ball and I bump it and it comes out of my resting out of its resting place okay I can put my marker there just for reference put the ball back no penalty but what happens if I don’t put it back same thing as in the general area it would be a two-stroke penalty because I’d be playing from the wrong place or the wrong spot you got to always put it back except in this case it’s not a one stroke penalty like the general area it’s a inst instance where we have no penalty again I put that ball back because I got up there and did it by accident make my putt no penalty uh that was with the ball marker if I get up here and I’m talking to somebody and we’re telling a good joke and we’re laughing and all of a sudden I’m like oh no I just bumped my ball okay I got to estimate that I’ll just put a t I’ll just put that cuz it’s in my hand again you’ll just estimate that to the best of your ability put that ball back and Putt and it’d be no penalty there because you accidentally caused your golf ball to move that had come to rest on the putting green this this has happened to me I got a pressure putt I get up here in my routine and I’m taking my practice strokes a little too close to the ball looking up and wait a minute I had not addressed the golf ball yet so I simply put that ball back to the best of my knowledge okay get back in my routine at this time I could actually put my ball marker back down and use the line of my ball reset okay but I got to put it back if I go putt that ball it’s a two-stroke penalty because I did not put it back but if I don’t and I and I put it back it is no penalty here on the putting green so now let’s review about these three different areas of the golf course if you the player or your equipment cause your golf ball to move on the teeing area you simply rete the ball and hit shot one again there’s no penalty if you cause your golf ball to move on the teeing area now when you go to the general area of the golf course very different if you the player or your equipment cause your golf ball to move you must put the ball back and it’s a one-stroke penalty if you don’t put it back it’s a two-stroke penalty when you’re here on the putting green golf rules are nice to us again if you the player or your equipment cause your golf ball to move simply put it back no penalty but if you play it from the wrong place the wrong spot it is a two-stroke penalty thank you so much for watching this video remember to smile often have fun God loves you we will see you next time [Music]
