Kaden Latreille follows his approach shot. He shot a one-under 71 to win the district championship.

Marco Island Academy freshman Kaden Latreille looks like a typical 15 year old…until you see him operate on a golf course. On Tuesday, Oct. 29, Latreille took on a field of 60 high school golfers from 12 schools to win the Class 1A District 12  Championship at Valencia Golf Club in Naples. He shot a one under par 71 to take a one stroke win.

That’s pretty heady stuff for a freshman. But it gets better. Latreille’s confident of his chances heading into Regionals, held Wednesday, November 6 in Tampa.

“I was hitting it just where I was looking,” Kaden Latreille said of his winning round at Districts. “I went into it playing really well and I ended up starting off really hot. My putting was going well. I was making everything. I was making birdies. I started off three under on the first nine.”

As one would expect in a one-stroke victory, the district championship did not come without drama on the back nine.

“The wind started to pick up,” Latreille said, “and I had a big old crowd following me. I still played good golf coming in, just not as good as the first nine. But I still ended up getting the job done and winning.”

Latreille was pretty thrilled to have a crowd following him.

“It was pretty cool, actually,” he said. “It was pretty fun because the people there were all like my best friends and stuff. All the other players from different teams were there.”

Latreille went into Regionals feeling confident.

“I’m gonna go out there and go have some fun,” he said. “I’m gonna go out there and try my best. Not gonna worry about anybody else. And I think I’m just gonna go out there and let God do the rest. I think I probably have the best odds of going out there and playing the best. I have one of the higher ranks going into the tournament. So, I don’t feel very scared of anyone else playing in there.”
