Brad Fritsch is now a full playing member of the PGA Tour for 2013 by virtue of being a Web.com Tour top 25 graduate. Just yesterday, he improved his PGA Tour ranking with a PGA Tour Qschool T7 at finals. That is one big giant goal with a check mark. It’s been a long haul for a guy with a career starting on the PGA Tour Canada back in 2001 but dedication, perseverance and commitment can take someone a long way.

Want to know how a PGA Tour tour player thinks on and off the golf course? What is their mindset of success? Well, I found out what works for PGA Tour player Brad Fritsch as we recently talked about his golf psychology strategies.

Consistency has been one of Brad’s strongest assets and one of his favorite supporting phrases this year has been “chipping away”. Brad used to make fun of players that set goals but in 2012 he found himself “chipping away” at his own goals as he consistently and gradually marched toward his PGA Tour card. Those goals and mindset have worked well for Brad.

Brad talks about his mental strengths very matter of fact as if these habits are just a normal parts of everyone’s routine. In fact they are not. They are concrete mental habits that differentiate the best from the rest and in this case has Brad on the PGA Tour.

In our interview Brad reflects back to his strong performance in 2006 and how qualifying for the US Open changed his perspective and elevated his mindset leading to an “out of nowhere” T5 on the PGA Tour Canada the following week. That US Open Winged Foot experience proved instrumental to his mind-shift that year leading to his first professional victory at the 2006 Azores Open in South America. Brad provides an interesting perspective here.

Brad credits a more recent boost in his golf performance and confidence to spending the last four years working with swing instructor Patrick Kelly. Patrick’s teaching style really aligns well with Brad and with a little digging in my interview it seems that Patrick helps Brad as a mentor in subtle ways as well. This mentorship and teaching style have really contributed to Brad’s confidence and mental strength.

Have a listen to my interview or read through the written transcription to get Brad’s perspective on the mental side of golf. Maybe you would like to think like a PGA Tour player…
