7 WOOD BUILD – TOUR CLUBS VS YOUR CLUBS!

The Kingdom Invitational took place this past weekend and 7 Woods were the talk of the range.

This #tourtrucktuesday I take you into the PGA Tour Truck workshop for a front row seat view as to how I assemble a custom 7 wood and work through the build process.

If you’re unsure on club fitting then this video is an absolute must watch!! Take note of the detail and the step by step build process to ensure everything is perfect for our PLYR.

As always any questions don’t hesitate to get into the #comment section and I’ll get back to you in there. Huge shout out to Todd Young, thanks for allowing me to film the whole experience and being a great student.

Stay tuned. More to come on The Kingdom Invitational. I upload twice a week #subscribe and follow my channels at the links below:

  1. I’ve had fittings and some feel like a process of elimination, just keep trying different shafts and heads that produce the best results. No measurements, no tipping, no grip check no lie/loft check etc… also had fittings where I’ve had a misunderstanding machine on a shaft and that told me what shaft I need after a few swings. Nothing like your videos.

  2. I think you need to do a video on what people should ASK for in a fitting, what to ask the fitter and what should be expected of a fitting. The min requirements and absolute musts! Us players rely on Pros to put us right without coming away thinking I’ve been hyped up with minor change just so we buy!

  3. Awesome video Trottie! Getting a custom build is the way to go. However, the customization and detail you get into is not something us normal consumers are privy to when doing a custom order through Taylormade. The crown recently popped off of my Sim 2 Max 3 wood and that’s a story in itself in trying to deal with Taylormade’s warranty. I’ve been trying to order a QI10 3 wood to replace it with a Fuji TR Blue 8X tipped 1.5 inches, but was told by at least 5 customer service reps that they can’t tip it any more than an inch and to go through a third party builder. It’s quite frustrating to go through so many hurdles, but have been a longtime Taylormade user and been enjoying your content for many years

  4. What's your take on "puring" the graphite shafts? I think they used to call it frequency matching, too…but that might be a different thing altogether.

  5. Fitting for your pros, yes. They get access to the best. I been through 3 fittings (full bag) and got 3 totally different recommendations. For the average golfer, grab the clubs you like and go play. Fittings are worthless

  6. This is one of the reasons I went through and built all my irons and tinker with the majority of my clubs. Helps me narrow down preferences and see how it changes performance. Bending loft and lie is the only thing I can't do on my own. And I guess probably hot melt as well.

  7. Trottie, guestion about swingweight. I've seen some builders on golfwrx say that all builds should be done with a standard grip weight to desired sw, then extra wraps or oversized grips applied, otherwise you're just fooling the machine.

Is this how the TM tour truck does it or is it swingweighted after say +3 wraps, mid-sized Tour velvet?

    Thank you.

  8. Why tip 1 3/4" instead of 1" per Fujikura tip trimming specs? Seems like it will play really tip stiff.

  9. The build and yearly range videos that TM does are my favs. Keep ‘em comin boss 🐐🧑‍🍳

  10. Why hot melt over lead tapes/weights? Whats the diff? When should one be preferred over the other??

  11. There is something amazing about watching proper artists or technicians at work as opposed to "assemblers". It's the professionalism of doing something the customer won't even notice, but you will know is done right. They're the people who know there's only two ways to do things. Right, or not at all. Oh to have the funds or the golf game to justify going through that process. Hats off!

  12. From what I understand being in my second year of playing golf, a "custom fitting" for us mere mortals wont include anything that looks anything like this. And also getting fitted before your swing resembles anything consistent seems dumb to me. Although as an engineer I absolutely applaud your attention to detail. Fun video.

  13. Very cool. How would this differ if you did an adjustable hosel that your player could tweak? I am 55 and so happy I learned club repair in my early teens. I don't have all the gear you have, but enough along with the ability to do my own work with the same attention and care as you do this. Same with my skis…not sure I'd trust many shops do touch either.

  14. I met Trottie a couple of weeks ago in a Montreal Airport after the Presidents Cup. We talked for a few minuets and he took a picture with me. I acted like a little kid at Christmas and Chris was such a nice, genuine guy! It was a great way to start off my trip to Vegas.

  15. And how do normal golfers find something anywhere close to this. 99% of fittings are pointless. I asked in a fitting if i could hit a different iron than a 7 iron and they guy looked so confused.

  16. Love all this! Miss club building at my local course when I was younger. I only do it for myself now.

  17. My man! The average golfer plays used or cheap golf balls. Why tell us to go get fitted and spend 2-5k 😂 you are a joke for that

  18. So you’re basically saying that unless we are privileged to get a tour van fitting, our expensive TM clubs that maybe fitted but built at the factory are shite

  19. I would argue that – if the most popular youtube golfers that have access to the best fitters and best equipment – still end up switching clubs/shafts/balls..etc after the fact. What hope does the average golfer have in getting a fitting that will have a lasting impact?

  20. It has been my experience that very little if what you did goes into a club fitting. Pre configuring the shaft is a huge advantage and most people do not spend the time to do this properly either. As a past club fitter I'd love the training you have had and the access to proper fitting ideals. There is no swing & a miss here, 100% on point. Great video Trottie.
