This is the 12/28/1991 Colorado vs Alabama game. The Blockbuster Bowl. It was a short lived Bowl game that was played in Miami from 1990-1993. It did put up a nice matchup this season. Colorado was coming off of a National Championship season with a win over Notre Dame in Miami on 1/1/1991. Alabama was in Gene Stalling second season as coach. After 7-5 his first year Alabama was shellacked in week 2 by Florida. Fear of yet another failed replacement for The Beat Arose but from the ashes of that Florida loss a team rose up as stout defensively as any Bear ever had. They won their last 9 regular season games and didn’t surrender over 19 points along the way. In what became a Stallings trademark they won their last 6 in a row including this Bowl game, all by less than a touchdown. Just win Baby! They would go unblemished the next year and win a national championship. It brought back fond memories of The Bryant Era at Alabama. I claim no rights.
