Cam Taylor-Britt doesn’t ‘regret’ comment about Commanders’ ‘nice college offense’

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt made headlines for a second consecutive week with his pre-game comments.

Prior to Monday night’s loss to Commanders, Taylor-Britt said Washington ran a “nice college offense” when asked about the Bengals’ upcoming opponent.

Taylor-Britt’s comment was made in response to a question about Washington running a simplified offense through two weeks to help rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels get comfortable in the NFL.

The Commanders made Taylor-Britt “eat his words” as he said following the game, but Cincinnati’s cornerback doesn’t regret what he said.

“I don’t regret it,” Taylor-Britt said. “I didn’t mean anything malicious out of the comment. It was made bigger than it was. Yes, I can eat my words most definitely. We did take an L today.”

Bengals winless to start 2024 NFL season
After falling to 0-3 on the season and giving up 38 points, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor made a point to express his displeasure with Taylor-Britt’s comments that created an unnecessary distraction.

“That’s not what we do,” Taylor said of Taylor-Britt’s pre-game comments on Washington. “We praise our own team. We praise the other team. We don’t take shots like that. That team hasn’t punted in two weeks.”

In back-to-back weeks, Taylor-Britt has made comments ahead of Cincinnati’s upcoming game that’s provided “bulletin board” material for their opponents. Ahead of the Week 2 matchup against the Chiefs, Taylor-Britt went out of his way to say rookie first-round pick Xavier Worthy’s game was limited just to speed and his comments ended up creating a news cycle.

Even though Taylor-Britt insists his comments weren’t made in a “malicious” way, he’s creating unnecessary drama before games. Taylor-Britt is supposed to be one of Cincinnati’s leaders on defense in his third season with the club.

Zac Taylor on Bengals players talking trash
It’s the opposite of what Taylor wants and expects from his best players. Cincinnati’s sixth-year head coach made that clear when he publicly stated those types of comments from his players won’t be tolerated any longer.

Taylor went out of his way to praise Washington’s offense following the game.

“They’ve scored on every possession the last two weeks,” Taylor said of the Commanders’ offense. “I’e got a tremendous respect for what they’re doing over there. I’ve known (Washington offensive coordinator) Kliff (Kingsbury) a long time. I knew with that quarterback (that) this was going to be a very dangerous offense to play against, and they’ve proven that.”

The Bengals and Taylor-Britt’s defense struggled mightily against the Commanders. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels completed 21 of his 23 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns.

Bengals record, NFL playoffs history
Cincinnati is now 0-3 on the season and now looking for answers as they try to crawl out the hole they dug themselves.
