Central Coast Mariners have had a poor start the Asian Champions League Elite, losing their first two games. What went wrong for Mariners in these matches and how can Mark Jackson get the A-League Champions back on track?

  1. I mentioned in another post you made, but that early exit from Australia Cup hurt the Mariners, Even another 1 or 2 games of competitive football would have done them the world of good. Friendlies against Sydney fc or whatever are just training runs when it comes down to it. Whilst not great in most senses, I thought the Mariners did ok not to collapse after they went down to 10 men. Could've easily folded blown your goal difference and the campaigns over right there, but you can still come from back here.

  2. I also feel last seasons AFC games allowed MJ to accelerate pulling the team together for the season, and it might be the same with this competition. Outside of the regular season, games like this are great for building a cohesive unit while season pressure isn't on. Hopefully we'll start the season better due to playing them. Would be nice to be more competitive in Asia from the off, but can't see it being possible starting so soon in the off season…

  3. If this reflects on the ALM, I would be very worried for MJ’s job. I do believe he will turn things around though & you might start playing better football

  4. It's still pre-season for the Mariners, most Asian teams are mid way through their season, so match fitness will play a part.

  5. Aussie teams at disadvantage in asia. The tournament starting during their seasons but in our off season

  6. The team got gutted (especially the attackers, Nisbet and Farrell). They have only 2 truly elite players now (Doka and Kaltak). Sainsbury I'm not sure – need to see him in action more. And the new GK isn't A-League standard.
