The Dragon at Nakoma Resort Golf Course Review and Thoughts | Clio, Ca
In this video, I review The Dragon at Nakoma Resort, which is located in the Gold Mountains of California in Clio, CA. The course is notorious for being really hard – and it is certainly that. I was eager to play other courses, but I didn’t.
The big thing I didn’t know Robin Nelson was such an interesting golf architect. Having been involved in a remodel of Waiʻalae Country Club along with other famous courses this was an interesting introduction to his work.
I tried a new format – and have included timestamps for your enjoyment as well.
The best food I found near the course was in Portola, California.
My favorite place was Rico’s Mexican Food in Portola, Ca, and for a good pizza and bar atmosphere go to Mountain Pizza in Portola, Ca, which is just down the street.

Great time for the Kapalua shirt, Support Maui!
I like the new format. This resort looks awesome
This resort looks amazing
I like the new format. I’d prefer the commentary on the course was a bit slower paced – it’s intelligible but brisk. Might help if you could grab google earth content or something to show layout of the holes you describe which are sometimes hard to really follow from the various POV shots. But overall the new content and format is great.
The Dragon is very very difficult – if you spray it at all, its a long day. I've played it about 5 times – when it first opened to just before the pandemic. While is has been softened, it remains a very difficult test. Its a beautiful course, but for the average duffer be sure to bring a lot of golf balls. Thanks for the review, and hats off for playing from the tips.
Hey Lukie good luck with the new direction of your channel. I really enjoy(ed) your playing VLOGs of the local courses. You have a gift of storytelling and capture the emotions of the everyday golfer. It's something I find very relatable. So I hope you continue to play local courses and make updated VLOGS. Whenever I am considering trying a course in the area, I always look to see if you have filmed it yet.
Pronounced Gray Eagle… Not graygle FYI.
Plumas Pines over in Blairsden is another good course that the area has.
Anyone going up that way I strongly suggest
The “” Brewing liar”
On the weekends for brews and music in a mountain tall tree setting
Tables live music good times
I STAYED A RESORT THAT HAD A GOLF COURSE NEAR GREAGLE THAT WAS CLOSING DOWN IN 2009 WHEN I VISITED. THE GOLF COURSE WAS OVER GROWN AND NOT USASABLE. I'M LOOKING FOR THE NAME OF THE RESORT. COULD IT BE THE PROPERTY THE NAKOMA INN BOUGHT? WAS THE DRAGON GOLF COURSE ORIGINALLY THE OVERGROWN, UNUSABLE COURSE I SAW BACK IN 2009?
