I think what Brodie is saying is that the disc was picked up with intention, which can still be an accident. I also think that as the game develops I wouldn’t be against someone in Lonnquist’s position being penalized. However, I don’t blame them for letting it go and moving past it.
Tattar is not playing close to her level last year. If she was, christen would be crushing the field again.
If another players rolling disc hits your bag, is that intentional on you?
The pro tour film crew just doesn't use basic techniques to keeping the filming true to real life.
1. They use too wide of angle lenses. They should only use 50mm lenses to mirror the human eye during throws/putts.
2. Every camera should be using a level and never angle down or up a fairway so we can actually see elevation.
3. You should never cut to a completely different angle mid flight. Place the camera in the middle of the flight and follow the disc. Or keep the view from behind the throw until it lands.
4. Use drone footage as a filming tool. They use a Mavic3Pro that has 3 lenses and they only ever use the wide lens. The drone is more than just a top down wide angle establishing shot.
5. Have the person on the ground commentate during throws and the desk in between give narrative. This is a very normal way of commentating sports.
6. Stop commentating for Radio. We don't need to hear what we see. React to what's happening, give emotion and give insight.
Doing film production for 13 years I see lots room for improvement and these are just some changes that cost $0 and would have a huge impact.
It was intentional not malicious.
Love when big jerm hops on! I also like how yall didn’t force people out to bring someone else on. Great pod!
I don't understand the idea that every hole needs to be able to be birdied.
I see what Brodie is trying to argue about the interference rule (he intentionally picked up the disc), but he's completely wrong if you look at the exact wording. The rule is worded "A player who intentionally interferes with another player's disc…" The intent is clearly tied to the *interfering*, not the action by which the interference happened. I don't see how you can argue that picking up a disc which you thought was yours counts as "intentionally interfering".
Also the argument about "what if you play from someone else's disc unintentionally" makes no sense because intent isn't invoked at all in the incorrect lie rule. You wouldn't get a penalty for moving that disc after throwing from it because you didn't intentionally interfering with someone else's lie, but you do get a penalty for playing from the wrong lie because intent doesn't matter in that rule.
With the current wording of the rule, 100% with Brodie. The rule doesn't state anything about it being an accident. It says if you intentionally move another player's disc. That's the criteria. So, two questions: did Calvin intentionally move the disc? Yes. He consciously bent down, reached over, and grabbed the disc. This is indisputable. There is no possible argument to claim he did not pick up the disc. Was that disk another players? Again the answer is yes. This is a non-debatable fact. The fact that it was an accident is irrelevant. He intentionally moved a disc that belonged to another player that was currently in play. A disc in a bag is not in play, otherwise every single player would receive strokes every time they move their bag…. That was a really dumb example. A hole is completed once the disc is in the basket, so a disc that is in the basket is no longer in play, because the hole is completed. Another bad example. So there is no rational defense for arguing against this qualifying for a penalty. But the biggest takeaway is that like so many rules in the PDGA, the wording is terrible and ambiguous, and they need to rewrite them to make them clear.
Lonnquist did not intend to pick up Heimburg's disc. He intentionally picked up a disc, yes, and that is what Brodie is arguing, but he didn't realize he picked up Heimburg's disc. That makes it unintentional.
Sustainability…do we need all these players on tour? So we need so many events? Get rid of bottom half of field and move DGPT and DGPT + series to once every 3 weeks. Off weekends filled with FPO event week 1 and Q series week 2 .
22 years experience doing medical massage therapy and 296 sanctioned events played. Happy to contribute my strong opinions on players’ commitment, or lack there of, to medical massage. Message me if interested. Only one tour player came in for dglo bodywork and based on his finish it helped tremendously. Why don’t more players get bodywork from seasoned professionals when available?
Nah, brodie is right. His intentions don't matter, he moved the disc that was not his and altered where it was. It may have been a mistake, but not an accident, he knowingly grabbed the disc, it was just the wrong disc
I’ve got no skin in the game but people judging his intentions through their mind reading and behavioural studies abilities rather than his actions is classic disc golf.
Uli is so bad at playing devil's advocate
Brodie is not wrong. Disc golf confuses the word unintentional with erroneous.
Calvin did intentionally grab the disc. He was erroneous in thinking it was his.
Just rewrite the rule.
How about rewriting the rule to “you get penalized for picking up another players disc while in play”, remove the word intentional.
Then Uli’s case saying “his facial expression didn’t look intentional” wouldn’t be valid. It’s so goofy to defend the rule because a player had a certain expression.
I think the physicality of the course argument is pretty lame. Almost no pros treat their bodies as if they are professional athletes. If you do that, you can throw 500 every hole (if you can throw 500). Also, the rounds are taking 4 hours, so you have lots of breaks

Jerm saying he doesn’t like backhand-shape dominated courses is so funny because almost every course is like that
Jerm saying krokhol is a better course because it’s not driver off the tee the whole time is funny because krokhol is one of the longest courses that they play lol

Uli’s got a good point with baseball players playing almost every day but disc golfers not doing squat lol
I genuinely like Brodie, but I don't think he understands the difference between what he thinks something means and the actual definition of it. Does he intentionally become a fan of whatever football team his wife cheers for, or is it just a coincidence 🤔 😂 I love the guy but sometimes he doesn't stop. He's the energizer bunny of arguments 😂😂😂
When Uli says “Brody” at the end of his statement, you know he’s getting heated😂
Have you seen Vampire Diaries? Luke Taylor sounds exactly like one of the main characters brother! The dudes name on the show is Jeremy. He sounds dead on that dude lol!!!
Uli saying bose headphones dont connect the mic is wildly untrue. They have an amazing mic. Like any headphones you have to select that in whatever program as the mic. Uli doesn't know tech
Uli 100% wrong on the intentional rule.
Hell yes I am so fucking excited for Luke Taylor !!!
Brodie isn’t even close to being right on the Calvin situation, blatant in the rules on camera he had an accident
I do love how Brodie wil always always stand his ground and I like how big jerm was here to help but Brodie is wrong
Uli arguing that "every disc in your bag is in play"…lmao brother what??
Honestly Paul is fine with the floor I guess and that’s his opinion but after hearing holyn talk about it I’m back on Brodie’s side it’s not selfish at all you want to see the best play
Uli is so wrong n foolish…how is it not intentional??? Uli throwing out " grabbing another players disc out of the basket is not the same argument Brodie is making
All the out of shape, fat pros complain about having to throw hard. They haven't exercised in 20 years. Put in some effort hahahahaha
They didn't move the basket on 14. They cut the bushes to the left of the basket. Jerm is such a complainer.
brodie knows how to get people to hate him he need to just shut up sometime
Brodie is a moron for his take on Intentional it was a clear accident. The rule is in place so someone doesn't intentionally cheat (let's say they move a disc behind a tree when nobody is looking) which clearly wasn't happening. If you have takes like this you shouldn't have a podcast about disc golf
First time is a warning. Touch the disc again is a stroke
“It the intent Brodie..” instant classic
I’m 5’9 and still no jump put from 38..
Brodie has it right that should be considered intentional when he picks up the disc. Of course maybe he didn’t maliciously pick up the disc but it happened. I also think to big jerms view of instinct vs intention they are the same
I honestly think Calvin L. should’ve been penalized or stroked for picking up Heimburg’s disc. It was an honest mistake, wasn’t intentional or malicious, but rules are rules. No different from a disc rolling and hitting another players bag, although it wasn’t intentional, the player who’s bag obstructed the rolling disc would be stroked. Same principle, and if he were to get penalized for it I think we all know he’d be sure not to make that mistake again haha
Look at disc, reach for disc, grab disc. Not sure how that is not intentional… I agree with Brodie.
Just because he regretted doing it, or it was a mistake, doesn't mean the action wasn't intentional.
