Royal County Down really is one of the greatest places to play on earth. It’s a hard hitting course with views all around with the Mourne Mountains, Slieve Donard, the town and of course the sea with waves crashing up against the opening few holes. Initially laid out by Old Tom Morris on one of his great travels and one can only imagine the excitement he must have had when we arrived at the land in Newcaslte, N.I.
It’s also one of the most challenging links courses you will find. Despite the high towering dunes, blind drives and trouble lurking everywhere to keep you focussed, you cannot help but appreciate the beauty of the course as you play your way along, through and over the magnificent terrain.

Very well done as always. Such a beautiful course, clubhouse, and people at Royal County Down. We took a ferry from Stranraer to Belfast and drove down to Newcastle. Loved the course, the blind shots, and maybe even the ball hungry fairway bunkers.

I hesitate to say “best one yet” because they’re all so good, but this one gave me chills. And is it just me, or does it seem like it’d be a great idea for the R&A & DP World Tour to hire the Cookie Jar team to make this same magic at even more places!
