Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This YouTube channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!
On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.

Pitty u never used the medium jumbo grip u used the other day for this video
I use a half-way solution. Glove size L – XL
Option used is the Dri-tec Over sized grips weight 45gram then layer 8 layers of masking plus 3 front layers so 12-15 grams of tape. Weight 60 gram.
So keeps my swing weight at D2-D3. Dead straight shots every tie, very pleased.
How about a midsize grip? I'm currently testing the MCC ALIGN (Golf Pride) on my 7-iron and really love it. However, I'm still unsure if I should use it on all of my clubs…
Keep seeing the GX golf glove used by Rick. Would be interested to compare the glove brands as GX for the money cannot be beaten in my view
What about swing weight? Did it change when using the JumboMax
Comparing grips you have played your whole life with to grips you are not used to is not really fair.
If you want to compare you should play with them for atleast 2 months and then make the video.
I love the The Grip Master
Very very tacky
I think 3 rounds, maybe break 75 would be the best way to truly understand the difference.
Why didnt you use the smaller ones from the video the other day? Im guessing this was filmed before hand? Good stuff man
At what time should a golfer change their grips? When they first start golfing or later their career.
Still ain't talking about that Titleist fitting that was deleted Rick????😅😂😂😂
Is there anywhere in the uk to try these grips out?
You should have tried the UltraLite™ ones (made with foam) instead of the heavy ones (made with rubber). Bryson uses the ones made with foam if I'm not mistaking. The lite ones have the advantage of much less unbalancing the club (aka when you said the club head felt lighter) (aka swing weight). I personally have the UltraLite ones (XL) on ALL my clubs, including putter, and I have been using them for 4 years now. I will never EVER go back to the ridiculous skinny grips who litterally destroy our fingers.
Like comparing but you need to compare the ones that they recommend. I’ve had xl and they are just way too big. I use medium and will never go back to traditional grips
You are swinging a grip that is too big for your hands. Pick your grip based on your glove size and give this a proper test.
Titleist fitting, Titleist fitting… grow up
Guess the video was shot before he got fitted for the right size.
Would have been interesting to see what the medium size JumboMax that was recommended for you and see those results….i use the JumboMax small size on my wedges and had great results
Rick you know JumboMax does have a “Large” which is slightly smaller that the XL. I play the Large and love them.
I don't know why you fight it Rick. All the pros and good coaches talk about taking one side of the course out of play. With regular grips you have a 2 way miss. With the larger ones you do not. Embrace it. Draws are for kids. Fades are for low handicappers.
I just got these grips, I've played three rounds. My hook is gone. My longest drives with normal grips were in the 290s. With the Jumbo Max I had three drives last round of 322, 318 and 312. Pretty crazy. I am blocking more iron shots though in time i think I'll adapt. Overall very happy.
Put the grips you had in the last video on your wedges.
Would anyone have a jumbo driver and standard grips throughout the back otherwise?
match up the shaft to the grip, it should make a difference.
There must be an in-between thickness of grip that suits you perfectly so that you don't over manipulate with your hands or block it out too far to the right.
Why isn't there such a thing as a grip fitting?
That's your next video, Rick. Where you go to a pro who tries out different grip thicknesses with you. It could be the first of its kind.
I use the Zen Lite Large. Very similar benefits, but a much lighter weight so your swingweight stays normal.
I wear an XL glove, if i wear one. My grips feels like Tour Velvet. If its not raining or super humid i pass on the glove. Never going back to skinny grips.
Thin grips get 40yrs of practise. These grips need a couple of months if you believe in the concept. And use Jumbo MEDIUM
I have an xl hand and play in a humid climate most of the time, so I find thicker to jumbo grips MUCH easier for me to hold on to through impact. With standard grips I can tend to have my grip slip or the club rotate in my hands on the down swing. Thicker grips take some getting use to for sure, but a handful of sessions on the range adjusting your setup to them definitely will dial in the accuracy.
Can anyone tell me best place to get these?
Have been told to many fakes for sale online
You drama queen 😝. It’s not the end of the world to hit a ball where you thought you might , then within a few balls “ sorted “ 🤣. I love how golf seems to be having a development burst with tech and improvement clubs . Bet the pompous old boys club hate it 🤪🤪
Swing is just sooooo erratic! For a “pro” your swing is awful. WOWZA!!!
With arthritis, the midsize with 3 wraps of tape works well for a guy that wears a large glove.
Rick, you've been 275 carry and 299 total since the Aeroburner 9 years ago… I'd say there's not much to be had for stats gained… people should buy control/feel/looks because the tech is done adding yardage…
But you often hit it right anyway! I think you need to put them in the bag for a month and get used to it. Seems better to me. Love your content, Rick!
Something about these grips that Bryson said in his new vid is that he has his club set up to go right and he tries to make it hook as much as he can so that might be a part in why he uses these
If these grips catch on… Golf bag makers will need to make bags with bigger slots to accommodate the bigger grips.
What was the swing weight change?
PLEASE do a dozen different grip choices experiment. The very best Grip every made is the GP Velvet Plus 4 std. Will try the midsize after seeing this vid now. thanks!
Buy in Rick… it takes a little time and all the benefits
The ultralite jumbomax are lighter and will give you significantly more clubhead speed and hopefully ball speed. I’ve put them on my clubs and I feel like I have to keep the wrist locked in order to keep the face square. Hope this helps.
