In 2023, the One NZ Warriors were one win away from a NRL Grand Final berth.
That result brought with it greater expectations the following year as the Auckland-based club went from being the usual write-offs by some pundits, to being hyped up like never before.
But in a season where coach Andrew Webster had the addition of Kurt Capewell strengthen the forward pack, plus the return of Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Chanel Harris-Tavita adding further playmaking weapons, 2024 was not their year.
Failing to qualify for the top eight, the Wahs have already wrapped up their campaign with a bye in the final round – finishing with a win-draw-loss record of 9-1-14.
This week on Running It Straight, co-hosts Sam Hewat and Anthony Gelling review the failed season, before being joined by ‘The Warriorholic’ to put a microscope on the club’s prospects.

24.25. Yes until the Warriors learn to win as favourites they will never win the NRL. Finally someone said it well done!!
Long time Warrior fan. Watched 2 losing grand finals. We lost 6 games by 4 or less and had 1 draw but the REAL problem with the Warriors is that they are not game smart.
Learn to f…. drop kick. So many games lost because the can't do a drive and drop kick at 30 meters. Its not just this season where this has happened but other seasons.
Look at the many game we lost in golden point. We are about a 30% or less win rate!!
Our coach and players are great BUT PLEASE LEARN this one thing.
I think they need to someway to signal outside the field , just get forwards to drive and drop kick on the 5th. Remember after a drop kick you get the ball back 90% of the time.
Hopefully Webby will improve this next season!
This season was an absolute disaster and very few in the media are calling it out
Game plans only get boring when your losing.
Kearney bought Storm's plan of that time and now Webster has bought the Panther's structured plan but we need our own style not copying others.
We played with more freedom in second half against Sharkies – perhaps there is a message there.
RTS was a waste of money at centre! The wingers were a defence liability and we are a very slow team in the backs except for DWZ
Team just lacks athletes, no speed, and not enough muscle to compensate.
Yes, its a failured season.
Give Ben Farr ago at 6th
Broncos have up and coming 7 and 9 coming through they'll be good next year
