  1. Tiger’s swing has changed a lot over the years. I bought his 2002 book ‘How I Play Golf’ because it had pull-out stop action photos from three different directions with Driver, woods, irons and wedges. Back then he had an “X-Factor” swing in which the hips barely turn to create maximum stretching across the back to power the downswing. Very powerful but very hard on the back and legs, hence his fused lumbar disks and lower leg stress fractures.

I started with a swing modeled on Nicklaus and “Golf My Way” in the early 1980s and went down the X-Factor rabbit hole in the 1990s finally
modeling my swing on Hogan’s using Five Lessons and his “all in one piece” hips/shoulders/hands takeaway in 2009 when I was 57 because it was less stressful.

Tiger’s takeaway and hip action in this video is very similar to Hogan’s and other golfer’s of the same era like Nelson and Snead. Others on the tour have gone to that style because of injuries.
