Much love to Athers for holding it together so well.
RIP Thorpey!! Thank you for some of my favourite cricket memories of the 90s
My favourite player and as Athers says here, our best player of the time too
Graham Thorpe was the greatest English batsman of the 90s
These boys loved him. It is so very clear. Sorry to all who knew and loved him.
Sadly now his wife Amanda is going to make a fortune from his suicide. She will already make a fortune from his life insurance but now she wants to set up a foundation i. grahams name and we all know that that any money donated to a foundation goes to the trustees bank account (Amanda)
He took his own life by suicide.
How tragic. If you are struggling please reach out, help is out there
The 1990s were not overflowing with England success, but it was a glorious decade for Test cricket in general and Graham Thorpe played his part in that and he played it well. RIP
Anyone out there who is suffering from depression, I know it well and have put together a big play list looking at depression from all angles, the folder has 450 videos and is in the play list part of my channel titled…Understanding depression
Only Jesus Christ can satisfy. Money, fame, family..Will does not satisfy us.
Give your life to Jesus today and He will come in.
Surrey n England hv lost a great player touching words fm Michael Artherton am fm India watched a lot of Thorpe batsmanship play with great grit n determination against pace n spin
As a young Saffer watching cricket in the late 90s I loved Graham Thorpe (when he was not playing against South Africa) Terrible to read this, loved his steely gaze at the batting crease. Him and Atherton, those were the days! Lol a school friend of mine looked as if he was Atherton’s illigitimate child, he never knew his dad so we always teased him that Atherton was his real dad.
So sad to hear this news. I loved to watch him play as I was growing up getting into cricket. Love to all his family and friends, and lovely tribute Athers.
Use to love watching thorpes batting he had the elegance and easy on the eye. Its a shame to read what happened at the end but he must have been desperate R.I.P A real England legend
He was the most unflappable batsman on the international scene. An example of confident attacking player. Sorry to hear the news.
….He suffered from severe clinical depression which is an illness. It is a chemical imbalance in the brain. Researchers have done MRI scans and a depressed brain the image looks different from a normal brain scan. You cannot fight this thing.
You need to be under the care of a Doctor and it is life threatening. Being severely depressed can lead to serious symptoms including psychosis and suicidal thinking. If he had a psychotic episode he probably did not even know what was going on when he killed himself. It has nothing to do with will power or how strong your character is. The actor Robin Williams also had depression and killed himself. Unsurprisingly, the more severe the depression symptoms the more likely the person is at risk for suicide. When the disorder is at its most severe, people with depression may even experience psychosis—seeing or hearing things that aren’t there. In Graham Thorpe's case he tried many different medications and the Doctors could not find anything that woud work on him. I suggest people read up on clinical depression. It is not feeling down or depressed.
It is in your brain. There is a chemical imbalance that effects your thinking and actions. It does not matter how strong a person you are. You cannot fight this. You need the right drug to correct your brain's chemistry. I live in Canada and do not even know who Graham Thorpe was or the game of cricket. But I do know what severe clinical depression is.
And this man never had a chance without the right medicine. ….
Atherton is the greatest pundit right now
This is a very sad occurance a man decides to take his own life by jumping in front of a moving train.
Very sad for the train driver who will be haunted by this horrid image for the rest of their life.
Most inconsiderate indeed. Sympathy to the poor train driver.
As someone who suffers with my mental health I feel the pain on both sides. To have got to the final point and you take your own life is tragic. Thanks Thorpey from all cricket fans
Just a totally selfish man who chose to end his life in the most selfish way. Traumatising the train driver, passengers on the train and members of the emergency services that had to attend.
Please do not portray him as some sort of great sporting hero.
Gone too soon …. Graham Thorpe was England's most consistent batsman for a decade, during the period from early '90s to early 2000s. He was equally adept at batting under varying conditions against almost any kind of attack, becoming their savior more often than not …..

Not just his Captain I remember Graham Thorpe and Mike Atherton being on opposite sides when Atherton captained Cambridge way back when.
Why are they standing so far apart? Is it still Covid ?
Graham thorpe will be sadly missed. Great player and person. RIP from Pakistan 🇵🇰
