I thought the u grooves kept spin up from the rough. That's why they were deemed non confirming.
Now I justified using my 5 wood off the tees. Give up maybe 12 yards, but I can find my ball most of the time
Is this mechanism a descendant of
IRON BYRON ?
🤷♂️😎✌️⛳️🏌♀️
Such a cool test and video!
Nit Pick – It probably doesn't change anything, but I note that the robot does not swing like most golfers do. The club shaft is in a straight line with the arm of the robot. That's actually how Bryson Dechambeau swings. Also Moe Norman. Most golfers have some angular difference between the shaft and their arm.
wow. liked this content very much. super interesting and useful. 🎉
I wonder if I could take that ball striking robot out on the course w me. It has a much more repeatable swing than I do….
I would love to see the robot back again, comparing older driver heads (maybe TaylorMade Burners?) With modern heads.
Different woods in general, possibly with all modern sharts and vice versa
Good stuff!
If this comment gets 3,000 likes can you send me a new Callaway paradyme 3 wood & hybrid???? 😊lol
Thanks for the great content.
Good shit Matt. Keep up content like this and you’ll zoom to a million in no time.
can that robot really ripp'em?
Great info
that song is literally agonizing but great vid
I have never understood how people hit 3 wood more accurately than driver. For me, I top it 40% of the time, chunk it 20% of the time and might hit ok for the rest. Driver off a tee I can get the ball in play 200-220yd 4/5 times. I haven't tested 3 wood off a tee but I know if you tee it up you can go straight under it! If not, you can top it just like on the fairway. (18HCP obvs)
🤖
Now I gotta get permission from my wife to go buy a three wood and 1,000 3-3/4 inch tees
the machine itself has some type of suspension and air tires. The machine moves when hitting. It's a very small amount, but enough to invalidate all your data.
I tee it ball 1/4 over top of driver. I have 85mph driver speed and am a 11hcp. The scoring is not LONG…..but UP and DOWN you fools.
Can anyone answer if your grip should be the same no matter what club you are using? I find that I have to go much weaker on my driver to get my drive to go somewhat straight but I’m guessing it’s just my swing path. Any input helps!
Great great great video
Fantastic vid. Thnx!!
Awesome video.
Love the content! Now I would just like to have you do these same tests based on shaft length and swing speed
IDK about beating Rick, but…keep on keeping on!
Cool to see some standardised robot testing rather than just a v bloggers opinions. In course conditions shaft length would likely moderate those 3wood Vs Driver results as human swingers will generate less speed with the shorter shaft on the 3wood. But the extra loft on 3wood shots will generally benefit slow swing speeds for sure.
Would've been cool to know the exact robot swing set up … Swing path, attack angle, shaft lean etc etc, it's hard to really weight those results without knowing that, particularly when talking about wedge spin and driver face distance.
Wow – great information, my 5 wood goes even better!
That machine was designed or engineered by a non-golfer. That thing hits the ball exactly how amateurs think the club works which is NOT how any professional golfer strikes the ball. That thing will never match the launch stats of a professional golfer.
Great video. Another interesting test would be driver shaft length – with shorter shaft there is a higher chance of a centre strike.
What was the loft of the driver? I suspect that if players with slower swing speeds moved to a higher-lofted driver (12 or more) the 3 wood advantage would disappear. Gene points to the shorter length of the 3 wood, but there is no rule that you can't use a driver with a shorter shaft.
Very interesting video. Keep up the good work Matt
very interesting
Driver versus 3 wood that you didn’t address is off center hits off both clubs! Wouldn’t an off center hit off a driver go farther than the off center hit off the three wood??🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
What shafts wire used for the driver and the 3w?
Number Zero mystery is pin in or out when putting… I don't suppose this robot could help with that one.
Great video as always! Why not test 3-4 similar golfballs from Titleist, Callaway, Srixon and an ousider like Vice in a battle (90mph, 100mph and 100+)
Another option for slower swing speeds would be a high lofted driver, like 12 to 15°.
Awesome video, great insides!
Better would be to wet the ball, not the club. More likely to have a ball wet from the grass than a wet club.
I thought the tee height was going to be more about attack angle then where on the club face, i think its a missed opportunity to use the robot to test attack angle in regards to tee height and hit the center of the face. Tee height doesn't necessarily translate to where on the face you hit it. Where the ball is positioned and your swing path determine more of where the face impacts the ball.
Put a frame on the robot to carry a set of clubs. Needs a motor to drive it, and a controller to steer. AI so it can drive itself. Range finder. Sighting system. Teach it to putt. Let it compete in tournaments.
Hey there. If you ever get to Arizona again, you should go to Francisco Grande golf course in Casa Grande, Arizona. It plays to a little over 7500 yards from tips. The driving range is dirt, because well, it’s desert. It’s a nice course and fairly challenging.
But where is the Declaration of Independence?
Great video! You have answered all questions I've had about the driver and 3 wood. Keep up the good work!!
I always hit my 3w straighter off the tee which had me keeping the driver in the bag until I finally started to really work on my driver and straightened it out I am in that 85 mph swing and starting to increase speed as I have improved my swing and gotten my lower body into my swing
Nice 👍🏻
mr sg, one thing to mention is if your swinging 70 mph w/ your 3 wood then your swinging probably amlmost 80 w/ your driver. the two clubs dont swing at the same speed, mine are about 8 mph apart. 105 vs about 93 on my skytrak.
Awesome!!
Man what a cool video I never would have thought those old wedges actually would do better with water amazing, in all the information on hit points on a driver so cool
