  1. Balsams is rumored to have re-opened as a private course. It was an amazing and beautiful course before it closed. The 19th hole will blow your mind. Mountain top castle-like patio overlooking magnificent vistas. Winter is tough on this course so if you can find a sponsor, play it in August or September. It has great vistas from the tees. Occasional moose crossing the course between ponds. Greens are the most "grainy" I have ever played. Does have a practice range.

  2. Rochester CC is open to the public and in excellent shape as of last week. 6/23/23 I would put this course in the top 12 best public NH courses.

  3. Wentworth by The Sea is a must-play resort course. I put it in the top 5 best NH public/resort courses. Five star hotel is an experience you will not forget. Fantastic course in late August thru October.

  4. I do not agree with the commenter who says the Mt Washinton Omni course is the best on this list because the course is rarely in great shape. When it is… yes it is fantastic. The North course at Bretwood is possibly the best bang for the buck on this list. (imho)

  5. I was a member of the Oaks Golf Links in Somersworth NH. It was always in my top 5 favorite courses in NH but, It has suffered from a lowered budget in recent years. A former Golf Digest course rater played there a couple time recently and told me yesterday 6/26/23 that they have poured some $$$ into it and it is excellent once again.

  6. I will likely catch some flack for this, but I’ve recently played a course called Lochmere in Tilton. It’s a little mom and poppy, and the layout is unique, but the holes themselves are a good test. It’s in great shape and is better than CC of NH and Breakfast Hill IMHO. Lots of elevation change and the greens have been like glass the times I’ve visited this year. I agree with comments regarding Mt Washington. Great when it’s in good shape, but can be sketchy when it’s not.
