We bring in guest cohost Savate legend Nicolas Saignac to look at some amazing mma matches from 1995. In fact, he met the Savate representative later and was already training with the JKD representative when these matches happened. We have boxer James Warring showing absolute amazing kickboxing (and even wrestling). And we also have Savate representative Jerome Turcan, Muay Thai representative Sean McCully, and Jeet Kune Do (Jun Fan) representative Erik Paulson. Let’s watch and see how these matches go and how brutal the early “no-holds barred” type matches were. Have you seen these crazy mma matches from WCC?

We we pulled clips from to critique and analyze:

  1. I used to train Okinawan goju Ryu but I’d say I would suit Savat more. If I had to pick a style – probably Savat.

  2. Remember that line from The Incredibles? No capes!
Same goes for the hair. Long hair gets you killed.
Always gets in your eyes as well. Especially when filled with sweat. Being bald is the way to go if you’re a pro fighter

  3. This is the reason that Long Hair and Hoodies are deadly in street fights. Your attacker will always try and grab your hair to control your head, because whoever controls the head also controls the body.
And if you're wearing a hoodie, or even any kind of shirt, your attacker will try and pull that hoodie or shirt over your head so you can't see fists or kicks coming at you.
Lastly, back-of-the-head punches, especially elbows, can lead very quickly to brain damage and even death.

Can't believe the morons who produced this event weren't aware of that fact!

  4. I remember watching this at my friend's house back then in the 90s. I was starting out with JKD & Kali (Inosanto-Vunak) linage at the time. When we were watching this my friend's dad said that Warring is not a boxer and he was the best prepared for some thing like this. I later read an article about this event in either Inside Kung Fu or Black Belt Magazine. I don't remember which one. I do remember having more respect for Warring as a martial artist and ring sportsman after reading the article.

  5. His name is Erik Paulson His name is Erik Paulson. In project mayhem there are no names.

  6. I still talk about this fight to this day, Eric was winning against the giant boxer who lied on his resume but that pretty hair was his downfall.

  7. you should react to Togo Ishii, he's a japanese jeet kune do youtuber who is actually competent and spars a lot! there's a video of him sparring an Okinawan karate master on a cliff and it just looks epic

  8. To be a complete fighter, you need to know how to strike and grapple and not limit yourself to just one aspect.

I'm a former boxer who still shadows boxes, jump ropes, punches the bag, speed bag ect. I'm also a blue belt in bjj and getting close to purple belt. Just to complete my fighting ability, I plan on incorporating some muay thai into my training when I'm a purple belt or 4 stripe blue belt.

I just wish I wrestled in my younger years. It's too late for me to do any hard core wrestling now, but thankfully I've had success adapting to holding my own against wrestlers in bjj and even submitted a newer student 4-5 times who wrestled all throughout high school.
