Andy and Brendan close out the week, and open a new month, with this Friday episode checking in on the Olympics golf competition from Paris. First, there’s a check-in on the Bears, Jets, and some questions about 3-on-3 basketball and how an alt-event like that might work in golf. There’s also some gatekeeping about what should be an actual Olympic sport, like speedwalking? They discuss early action from Le Golf National, such as Wyndham Clark’s early troubles, the discourse around him and who should qualify for a team, and the golf course as a variety test. Then they close it out with Golf Advice on Member-Guest appreciation ideas and a psycho starter trying to get a player to go back in and pay a dynamic pricing hike.

  1. Andy – Race walking has been an Olympic sport in every Olympic Games since 1904, with the exception of the 1924 Games.

What differentiates race walking from running or jogging are 2 rules that require race walkers to: (1) keep one foot in contact with the ground at all times and (2) the supporting leg must straighten from the point of contact with the ground and remain straightened until the body passes directly over it.

Despite your contention otherwise, race walking is very much an athletic endeavor with world-class race walkers averaging under 4 minutes per kilometer over a 20km race. In the Paris Olympics there is a 20km race walk for both men and women and a 50km mixed race walk in which men & women alternate 10km stages over the 50km race.

Andy – It is ironic that you are railing against race walking not being athletic enough to be in the Olympics when there is a large segment in the athletic world that don’t consider golf an athletic sport, but rather a game.

  2. Public golf in greater Chicago SUCKS! The arrogance of the overpriced, half way decent facilities that do exist is mind boggling and infuriating.

  3. Don't forget Clark started the shit talking about Bryson and the LIV players after the first round at the Masters! Ever since those comments, he's been trash! 🗑😂
