Down 1-0 going into the seventh, Brooke Ellestad led off with a double and after Sam Roe’s infield pop, the heavy rain came. Cal’s coaching staff wanted the game delayed.
Apparently, the umpiring crew knew the rain would leave shortly — which it did — so they played on.
Cal freshman southpaw Randi Roelling threw two wild pitches to chase home Ellestad with the tying run. That immediately led to an eruption from Cal’s irate bench — leading to an ejection of an assistant coach and catcher Lagi Quiroga.
Instead of UL seizing the new-found momentum, the Cajuns failed to capitalize.
After Alexa Langeliers walked, it appeared Victoria Valdez’s bunt was misplayed, but the replay overturned the ruling to out at first base.
At that point, Roelling walked Laney Credeur and coaxed Mihyia Davis into a pop out to force extra innings.

The competitiveness of the game was over when the pitcher couldn’t even give a proper pitch. Plus It’s raining 😂 but this is also why baseball is a joke! sports should be played in ALL weather or don’t call it a sport! 💀

A softball is impossible to control when it's wet. It's difficult with a smaller baseball but at least there's a chance. Those smaller hands trying to control a softball in the rain is not going to happen.

I was an NCAA umpire in the '80's and if a coach approached me and told me the pitcher was having problems gripping the ball due to the rain and it was reasonable to think the rain was an issue I would have paused the game until the rain let up considerably……I was also a fast pitch pitcher and know that a wet ball is difficult to control…………umpire could have avoided all the nonsense with a simple common sense call………..
