this [Music] hello and welcome into the 247 Sports football recruiting podcast I’m National recruiting analyst pekna alongside 247 Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivans we appreciate you guys joining us this Wednesday we got a jam-pack show we’re going to talk about the biggest recruiting surprises five teams that have caught our eyes through June J’s time to talk a little bit about r our guy Lance Glenn would be rolling over in his grave he’s still alive but he’s going to be excited to talk a little bit of Scarlet Knights we’ll also have Tom Lloyd join the show as well 2026 quarterback dominoes some of these guys starting to come off the board Brian stump our friend at Elite 11 tweeting yesterday about the accelerated process when it comes to the top signal callers in the country and then we’ll talk a little bit about Bud Elliott’s Blue Chip ratio who are some of the best teams that have the I would say best margin of error to make a run at the college football playoff in a national title and Drew what what other way to start I did a cbsh HQ hit on it yesterday we’re talking about the teams that are really kind of making a run catching our eyes here in June you got to start with Ruckers at the top sitting right now at number 11 they have 28 commitments they have six players uh from the uh six of the top 20 players from the state of New Jersey excuse me uh they also have five four four stars as well they haven’t done that since their last year in the Big East and they are searching for their second top 25 class since 2012 I know that’s a mouthful um but it’s not one of those classes you look at and it’s like yeah obviously they have a high volume of players committed Drew you and I have gotten acclimated with the top of Ruckers as class they’re doing some things here that if you’re a Ruckers fan you got to be pretty excited about yeah C CP uh good morning to you man uh I think what stands out to me you said it in New Jersey how they’re doing but they’re also recruiting well in Florida in Georgia um Greg shano obviously he’s had a ton of success in the past recruiting the Sunshine State that you want to go blast to the Past man he was one of the first ones to ever kind of utilize those satellite camps which I guess are gone are those still the thing I don’t know that was a big boom a few years ago but he’s always had his eyes on the Sunshine State and to me when I look at this commit list you said it 28 prospects are committed to the Scarlet Knights that is the most in the country right and when you look at the team rankings how it’s kind of weighed out the more guys You’ have committed the higher going to be up the board I mean there isn’t an SEC school right now with more than 18 commits Alabama’s leading the way so I don’t know how much staying power Rutgers has here with that being said it is an impressive group and for me it starts in Florida Caleb Singleton the corner Raiden Burns uh a defensive lineman you got Garrick Gordon uh an O lineman and then Jon Simon another defensive lineman like what I was going through coming out of the junior seasons and and going through the State of Florida like these are four guys where I said to myself okay I I think there’s a chance they could hit at the power four level and really they’re offer sheets didn’t reflect that there wasn’t a ton of P4 schools there wasn’t the Big 10 in there there wasn’t the ACC there wasn’t the SEC Ruckers has all four of those guys committed right now uh I think this is a class that’s full of traits and the big thing for ruter right with the transfer portal you got to get guys that have some developmental upside and you got to retain them and to me this recruiting class um there’s a lot of players that if they hit you know normally you’d be paying a premium for those guys in the transfer portal coming off a seven- win season win in the Pinstripe Bowl against Miami as well Greg shano and Mario chrisal know each other pretty well that had to feel good for Greg shano Drew they’re sitting at number 11 every every everybody always wants to know all right where do they finish right it’s only June we’re getting ready to turn the page to July I talked about their history only one top 25 class since 2012 I get the feeling that Ruckers is going to hang on here and make that the second in the last 12 years or what we’ve seen do you think that’s a fair conclusion here well I haven’t played with the class calculator I mean like I said you look at the SEC schools only all those teams have you know below 18 commits and record is with 28 I I think I would say top 30 I’d be more comfortable than than top 25 uh there’s going to be a big run of commitments here uh in the next few weeks right July 4th is kind of turned into the unofficial Signing Day that’s when all these kids Mak decisions so we’ll see I mean I don’t think there’s going to be ruter commit sliding in our rankings right we like a lot of the guys they have committed maybe there’s some guys that move up the board so we’ll see I’ll say top 30 I don’t know about Top 25 all right Drew says top 30 I’ll say top 25 let’s talk about another team uh starting to make some waves here in the Big 12 without Oklahoma without Texas we wanted to know all right who’s going to be the recruiting power in the Big 12 I don’t know if that’s going to be anybody and Drew you look at TCU I think you and I have always thought really highly of the potential that Sunny dyes and his program have there in the state of Texas and the DFW area they’re sitting at number 13 right now and they have 18 commitments 14 of those guys from the state Texas you look at guys like Tai Hawkins who we’ve talked a lot about on this show Chad woodfork as well they’re getting it done in state I think the biggest thing that was kind of a heads scratcher was coming off the national championship run just two years ago they followed that up with the number 34 rank class so in terms of being able to seize momentum they didn’t do that they’re sitting at number 13 right now Drew kind of similar to Ruckers I don’t know if this is going to be a top 25 class but this is a program in my opinion they should be in the top 25 year in and year out yeah the class for me really starts with Tai Hawkins who we got to see out the at the Elite 11 finals you know committed to TCU but smu’s involved after they lose Kon Russell he’s also talked about Oregon a little bit I think he shared with Tom ly at checkin that Florida had kicked the tires as well on Tai Hawkins so a lot of schools thinking hey maybe we could potentially flip him but if he stays I think he’s the perfect fit for that offense you kind of follow him up after taking hos Haney the year before those are two really athletic guys both of them actually played WI receiver early on in their prep careers coup when I dug into tcu’s group and really this class which stood out to me you said it that big 12 race is like wide open uh Iowa State’s near the back end Colorado’s got just four commits I mean I have no idea who’s going to finish at the Top Texas Tech they they haven’t really got it going yet sitting with 15 you think um that class is going to add but to me the one I kind of have circled UCF number nine in the Big 12 right now with 10 commits and you got right be right in front of them at Number Eight Houston with 15 commits you you shared on social media the other day to watch out for Willie Fritz there um at Houston you know this one seems kind of wide open in terms of all right you know what are these programs going to do for me UCF had a ton of ton of four stars some five stars on campus for official visits earlier in the month so we’ll see how that big 12 race shakes out but for TCU I think the the main thing go to got to hold on to Tai Hawkins we’d love to talk about futures is there a team that you’re kind of maybe fixated on one more than than the other you brought up UCF you brought up Houston I’m big on Houston especially from a talent identification standpoint we’ve talked about them a lot on this show like who who in the Big 12 has the most a game that can really kind of put this conference in a choke hold or is there a team like that maybe there’s not a team capable of kind of running away with this thing every year Kansas State’s 15th right now in that new look 16 team Big 12 uh Tom ly you know he’s join us here in a little bit uh had a story on 247sports.com about fivestar tight end linoln cure right to me Avery Johnson we talk about an expanded 12 team playoff can Kansas State Make some noise and I think that could help them on the recruiting Trail but they’re a player development program right they really haven’t swam in these Lanes with the blue chippers but that’s one I have circled in addition to those other ones you said Arizona I mean it’s just kind of a fascinating conference in terms of all right who is going to to rise to the top UCF has a ton of support from that nil uh perspective we’ve seen it in the transfer portal we’ve seen them get these big names on campus I mean UCF plays Florida the season what happens if if Gus Takes down Billy Napier late in the year you don’t think that’s going to help them on the recruiting front so yeah ucf’s the one and then Kansas State’s the next one I got my eye on in the Big 12 all right let’s talk about a team that I’m buying stock uh in and I’ve been doing this since Luke fickle arrived in Madison let’s talk about Wisconsin up to number 14 right now in the rankings believe they were 13 they flip-flo with TCU today uh Drew they’ve added half of their commitments almost half of them nine of their 20 over the last three and a half weeks they’ve been busy with guys like Mason poso who we have in the top 247 along with Logan Powell as well uh Wisconsin to me has the makings to be one of the best player development programs in the country we talk about Luke fickl and his staff a lot Brady Collins we talk about the strength coach we always go back to 2022 Cincinnati having nine players drafted that was third uh in the NFL only behind Alabama in LS shoe that year so Wisconsin right now they have the makings of that and Drew you kind of look at Wisconsin their highest finish in program history I believe came in 2021 when they finished 16 this is a school in a program to me that is now primed to kind of live up to their recruiting potential under Luke fickle they’re at 14 right now I don’t know if they top uh that top 16 ranking that they had but I do think they end up uh in that top 25 range and I think this is going to be a team from a talent acquisition standpoint year over year they’re just going to get better and better and better and as players and recruits start to understand how good Luke fickle is at this Player Development piece I think you’re only going to see them kind of continue to raise their stock yeah and I go back to the early signing period this past year or the traditional February signing day after we saw some of those Wisconsin signes in the All-Star setting I think we said sneaky good recruiting class Wisconsin this is one we kind of like it might not reflected in the rankings but we see uh the long-term potential there I think you know two two three years down the line like all 32 NFL teams are going to be in Madison for that Pro Day right that is what Luke fickle is building he’s getting a bunch of guys with a Sunday upside there and you see it in this recruiting class I mean Mason posa is the headliner but there’s some some other guys I like and they’re recruiting around the country you know they lose R Keem stad the cornerback uh the other day he flips to you uh to UCF excuse me uh but man D Nolan Davenport I I go back to this past season you know I was doing hits for Max Preps he’s an offensive tackle I like out of Ohio they got K Kevin Haywood the year before that Eugene Hilton in Indiana that’s t y Hilton’s son it’s a really good recruiting class in my opinion uh and you know it takes a trained eye to know who some of these guys are um but it’s ones with traits and again you know that Sunday potential all right let’s talk about a sneaky sneaky team Brink key Georgia Tech right there in Atlanta uh Drew we haven’t really been here with Georgia Tech uh I think a lot of people thought this is what we would get with a Jeff Collins run program down there in Atlanta Georgia Tech right now sitting at number 17 and regardless if they finish uh outside of the top 25 I think you and I have seen enough of this class along with our uh our scouting Department here at 247 Sports we like a lot of pieces and the dalen penson one uh the the addition there was kind of an eye opener top 247 quarterback they got to be out in Notre Dame they got to be it out Kentucky uh Drew they’ve done some really really good things they’ve landed 15 their 19 commitments here in June I talked about dalen penson their top finish was in 2020 at number 27 and since 2010 they’ve only signed one top 40 class that was kind of astounding to me I couldn’t believe that because right there in Atlanta and a ACCC program I get it people are going to say it’s high academic you can talk about the style of football that they play offensively this this program has some potential to really kind of uh continue to rise in the recruiting rankings I don’t know if they’re going to be a perennial top 25 but I think top 30 top 35 program I think that’s within reach for Brent key and Georgia Tech and Drew right now they’re kind of doing some Savvy things on the recruiting trail that have you and eyes attention yeah for real you know we got a little taste of it under uh Jeff Collins right you know that 2020 class jir Gibbs was part of it I mean there was some some dudes there they transferred out to me Georgia Tech it’s always felt like a a sleeping giant in some in some sense you said a Cooper High academic institution but it is right there in Atlanta it’s easy to get to Atlanta tons of flights go in there it’s in the heart of really a bunch of hot beds you know you can get into the Carolinas you can go into Alabama you can get down into Florida uh there’s seven on seven tournaments there’s camps there every year Talent comes through there you just got to find ways to get them on board I think Brent key you know what he has done in such a short amount of time they went a bowl game last year they had two ranked wins um against Miami against North Carolina they open up this season and kind of a standalone game over in Ireland against Florida Florida State you know they win that does that shoot some life into the program I would certainly think so with Haynes King there you said it uh dalen penson that’s a big win for them you know Georgia was kind of sniffing around he’s a Georgia Legacy both of his parents ran track for the Bulldogs um I like the secondary Hall in general ran dinkin a kid from South Georgia sideline to sideline range bit of a ball Hawk multiple interceptions M it eight as a sophomore followed it up with a strong Junior campaign 14 of the 19 commits from the peach state for Georgia Tech I think that is a recipe uh they need to continue to replicate there and again if you know if they have some onfield success I think the Vegas win total is sitting pretty low like five and a half you know they get to 67 wi another bowl game you know maybe hey they can continue to finish in the top 30 little disrespect there for Brent key and Georgia Tech Drew I’m looking forward to them this year all right the last team on this list and a lot of people are probably say all right how do you have the number 78th ranked recruiting class on this list this is V Chris Hummer by the way Memphis at number 78 and Drew you and I talked about it briefly on the show yesterday they they get Antoine Hill Top 247 signal caller out of the state of Georgia they beat out Florida they beat out Georgia Tech for we talked about the nil fund that they have with FedEx $5 million a year Pledge the student athletes Memphis right now everything they got going between the stadium renovation coming off a 10- win season you got the momentum uh with the quarterback as well in Antoine Hill yes they’re parked at number 78 Drew but this is team that my opinion not only this year but over time can kind of you can kind of see getting into that upper echelon of g5s yeah and they’re sitting 78 but we got to be we got to be honest here they should probably be a little bit higher they got four commits that we haven’t graded uh and I don’t think some of the other services have either and that kind of factors into the composite so hey look next week they could be you know in the 50s I mean Antoine Hill’s the story here it’s a blue chip recruit they beat out Florida other schools for him he’s going to play at Memphis and he believes he could you know be on the field year one he’s going to have a chance to uh compete for that starting job and a lot of kids KN know who Antoine Hill is he is someone that has been at the future 50s he’s been at the Elite 11 regionals people are very familiar with him and I think a lot of recruits are going to be looking to Antoine Hill to see if he has success if going this G5 path works out Cooper I I think there’s a chance it does uh go back to the 2021 cycle a kid you’re a little familiar with right roock Taylor High three star recruit for us was committed to Tennessee for a long time you know you look at memphis’s to deep and this kid’s a preseason all AAC pick you know he had a th000 yards receiving last year so we’ve seen them kind of get this Talent they normally don’t and then those guys find success there at Memphis certainly one to keep an eye on and that nil is going to help them big time all right Drew so we have five teams that we hit on and in uh in case you’re just joining us late in the show Ruckers TCU Wisconsin Georgia Tech Memphis any other teams kind of stand out um to you so far that maybe kind of get your mind going a little bit I know for me Fran Brown Syracuse inside the top 25 right now Jeff leby Mississippi State at number 27 we talked about them yesterday they seem to start getting it going as well any other teams maybe in June you kind of like what they’re doing Stanford’s back baby right 25th I think that went surprising some crystal ball picks in for Joe Anthony Hall top 64 wide receiver to end up there on the farm I you know one I would love to see kind of make a a splash back Coupe another one that I don’t think me and you have really talked about you know Pittsburgh uh with with Pat ardi there they hire new offensive coordinator Cade Bell he comes in from Western Carolina again you need a trained eye to look at this recruiting class but that offense is going to be exciting in the ACC right and I know there’s a ton of fans of other ACC schools that listen to this podcast Kade Bell’s a name that was linked to Florida as a potential offensive coordinator he’s got Bryce Yates Deary and Folk wide receivers Tony kendler like they are getting some dudes and in the past they have in that offense I mean those guys are electric so Pittsburgh kind of stands out to me a little bit um you know just what they’re doing I like their quarterback Mason hensil uh the kid they got committed out of out of Ohio but man it’s just so early right now and it feels like a few weeks ago you know we kept hammering Michigan for being 41st in the rankings you wake up today and you know they’re 15th and they’re going to keep Rising so a lot of Chang is um I think a good exercise would be like mid July we kind of dig back into these recruiting class rankings and see who’s sitting where yeah good time for a progress report right now and like you said uh we were banging on Michigan not too long ago just a couple weeks ago I was on the same show saying hey it’s time to get going there up into the top 15 with more work to do as well guys just reminder you’re locked in to the 247 Sports football recruiting podcast you can find us every Tuesday and Wednesday right here on the 247 Sports YouTube channel guys do us a faor make sure to like And subscribe it definitely helps not only with the algorithm but it helps oyster boys as well good for the brand if you know what I’m saying and without further Ado we bring in the third oyster boy our friend Tom lyd Tom ly been busy in the chat as always we appreciate you for that great work Tom lyd by the way Elite 11 finals last week some of your favorite quarterbacks out there one-on-one interviews with Tom lyd did a fantastic job on that and uh last week was all about 2025 time this week more about 2026 some of these names are just flying off the board you kind of got to look up and all of a sudden you know guys are playing musical chairs trying to save their spots but let’s start at the top faas and Brandon number one player in 2026 number one signal caller as well uh there’s been some movement with his recruitment at least behind the scenes a little bit Tom what can you tell us about that one my crystal ball has been on Tennessee for a while and to be completely honest I feel like it’s been completely spoton but over the last couple of days I’ve been very very close to changing my pick um I’m starting to lean towards Alabama with about a month or so to go until he decides to make a decision Anna Adams our national reporter uh stated that a decision is coming in August all of that will be finalized so stay locked to Anna on that uh in the near future but this really is a battle there’s a couple teams in play but like I said I’m really starting to lean towards Alabama that visit was a game changer um I heard that he even spoke with kelen Russell um the 25 commit for for Alabama and that was a kind of a game changer uh for him and really opened his eyes about Alabama even more which it’s funny in a time where you some some schools want to keep these guys an elite guy in 25 keep them away from a elite guy in 2026 um as if it may hurt the recruiting process but for Alabama um I really love the way they’re doing it and they want to build camaraderie in that quarterback room and they want Elite guys competing with Elite guys so they are doing a great job with FaZe and Brandon they obviously already landed Ken so I really like the direction this one is heading but Tennessee is still very very much in play um honestly heading into this morning I was primed to put in a crystal ball pick for Alabama and make that uh that change but I’m just really torn and I don’t want to do it quicker than I’m ready um so I’m really torn maybe something happens by the end of the day but uh I I mean I just I think both of those schools are doing a great job but right now if I had to put in a pick it would be Alabama I’m just not quite there yet all right uh Drew we’re talking about 2026 you look at Alabama’s quarterback Room Post jayen milro which he’ll more than likely leave after this season Ty Simpson former five star still hanging around you got Austin Mack a guy that was uh very highly touted reclassified still a top 100 player for us he transfers over from Washington a lot of people still high on Dylan lonan uh and then you got kelen Russell and now potentially phasing Brandon ear talk to me just about the potential of that Alabama quarterback room under Kaylin dor uh the two of our what favorite arms from the high school ranks right now our number one ranked player in 2026 and then Kon Russell who was the MVP of the Elite 11 finals was in our top two all week a guy that has made AA a case for a fifth star I mean the potential combo of those two we we continue to Rave about what Ohio state is doing in that quarterback room the talent they’ve assembled I think Alabama we could look up a year from now it kind of be the same story in terms of the guys that they have brought in uh we were questioning Kaylin bore a little bit I don’t know if we were questioning him Cooper we were just wondering when he was he going to find his footing because recruiting at Washington’s a lot different from Alabama and man if he can kind of change or or uh you know flip the script there with uh with with FaZe and Brandon I think that would be another kind of monster statement and and to me I mean I don’t know how you guys feel about this Cooper you referenced that Brian stump tweet just the the the quarterback recruiting it is so accelerated I think 15 arms in the class of 2026 have already made decisions like Tom is are you getting the sense that faas and Brandon is kind of moving things up just because so many dominoes have have fallen here um in the 2026 cycle these are kids that even haven’t even played their junior year of high school absolutely and it’s weird to think about like maybe the number one player in the country having to rush his decision but um that’s just the reality of the situation these guys want to these these schools want to get their guys in the fold and get them recruiting and and start building that that camaraderie and hey if Alabama or Tennessee could say hey we got the number one player in the country coming don’t you want to come join him it’s exactly what their pitch is going to be and it’s and it’s it’s a great one it’s a strong one so kudos to them for trying to pull you know push the the needle forward um it’s not going to rubb guys the wrong way I talked to a lot of 2026 quarterbacks over the last couple of days and they were like very adamant I wanted to wait until after this next season but I’m starting to see all the dominoes and the pieces fall and I have no choice but to make a decision sooner rather than later so the good thing is for them it doesn’t really lock them into anything yeah it’s not a great look but they’re committed they lock in their spot if behind the scenes they want to continue talking to schools talking to programs then that’s their prerogative and they have that right so it’s going to be interesting I think with all the early commitments you’re going to see a lot of decommitments later U we’ve already seen some with with 2026 quarterback so it’s going to be very interesting over the next couple months we talked about uh kelen Russell the Elite 11 MVP Alabama quarterback commit a guy that were very high on last week week and just the amount of confidence uh that he exudes when you speak to him I think this kind of takes it to a different level when you talk about Ken Russell uh actively recruiting the number one quarterback and the number one player in 2026 um that’s rare you don’t see that and a lot of times uh coaching staffs Personnel staffs they have to tiptoe around these guys feeling feelings what’s it like stacking a quarterback room it’s a very delicate thing it’s a very delicate process when you have people that are wired the way ke Russell appears to be wired and he can go out there and get in touch with a phas and Brandon and maybe you know at the current pulse it’s a 50-50 Recruitment and he can swing things in your direction uh you talk about a guy uh just being worth it in every sense of fashion for kelen Russell not only the player that you’re getting on the field but the recruiter as well uh and that type of potential teammate too speaks volumes about kelen Russell um yeah go ahead Drew well you asked me what would it be like remember that photo from Alabama where it was like two uh m m Jones and Jaylen Herz I think we could have a potential one of those at some point you know those three guys standing on the sideline I don’t know who the third would be Austin Mack you can put him in that yeah he’s kind of the Forgotten man here but uh the the the other part of this is if you’re caylin dor I think there’s a little bit of Genius in this and it it might sound so simple but for you to essentially have your quarterback in 2024 2025 2026 locked up and you’re talking about three of the most premier prospects at the position over 3 years for kayin debor a guy that’s been questioned in terms of his recruiting prowess what would that look like following up arguably the greatest coach of all time at Alabama in that dynasty it just adds to the momentum he hasn’t even played a game yet so you know for him to have those signal callers over two to three years already in the boat that’s a huge deal and it gives it gives kayin debor it gives Courtney Morgan it gives him so much ammo on the recruiting Trail to now have a foundational piece that you can build around right if those guys believe it makes a sales pitch easier on everybody else now that you have a quarterback in the boat they just happen to have two of the best ones potentially potentially if this ends up happening with FaZe and Brandon we’ll see still some time to work some things out Tennessee handful of others I’m assuming uh behind the scenes still working on FaZe and Brandon as well uh Tom let’s go to another guy one of the top arms in in 2026 what’s the latest with ryer lions man I am bummed that we’re not going to get to see him at the future 50 this is one of my favorite prospects in the entire 2026 class but uh really excited about his future and uh I think this is one that USC leads I think that’s the team that’s setting the tone setting the bar in this Recruitment and and uh it’s goes beyond the fact that his brother is going to be a Trojan so Oregon Alabama also in Play It’s really in my opinion a three- team Race right now um and obviously talking about Alabama we just talked about faas and Brandon so obviously that would eliminate them for from contention if they decided to jump in but maybe that gives Tennessee a shot if he were to pick Bama so a lot of dominoes like when we keep talking about it but there’s so much that’s going to impact every other guy depending on how quickly they make a decision but my crystal ball is on USC I feel good about that pick the one to watch that’s outside of this that I’ve mentioned is Ohio State I’m still unless I’m missing something I’m still shocked that they have not offered I think they would absolutely enter the mix and enter the race if they decided to make an offer um and maybe you know if he potentially takes that mission trip that’s been discussed which is the expectation maybe that’s holding Ohio State back from making that offer but right now I like USC slightly ahead of Oregon Alabama’s also in play and I’m curious to see if the Buckey jump into the mix Drew what do you think about Ohio State potentially getting involved there what do you think about that you know hypothetically the fit of a ryer lions in Chip Kelly offense oh I mean that that fires me up but really I mean this just kind of goes to these 20 26 quarterback Domino like okay like who’s LSU’s guy going to be uh what’s Ohio State going to be I mean we’re talking about college football playoff regulars and like everyone’s trying to have to sort through this and Tom mentioned it there’s probably going to be a ton of decommitments I mean we we’re going to see it here in the 2025 cycle we’ll see it in 2026 but it’s just so accelerated right now where you kind of I think people are just grabbing guys to lock them in and hoping it works out and we’re not even talking about coaching changes in the winter months but Ryder Lions potentially that Ohio State yeah I I would love that fit and and what he’d be able to do um but yeah I mean to me like that is that is kind of the takeaway just all these all these schools like if you’re not in on one of them now you you’re going to be sitting there waiting um to find someone that emerges and people are going to emerge from the junior Seasons you know not everyone starts as a sophomore so there’s going to be you know a market out there and and whoever that individual is that is the Late Bloomer man he’s going to is he’s going to have no shortage of options all right Tom a couple quick hitters as well Landon Duckworth formerly committed to South Carolina top 100 quarterback also Jonas Williams uh number 130 in the top 247 what’s the latest with those two obviously Duckworth just decommitted on Tuesday so I’m still digging into that one but the two I’m watching are Oregon and UCF I spent a couple days there with some teammates uh in Orlando checking out the knights uh and throwing it around so us your UCF has some optimism there um but I think big picture Oregon’s one that’s really caught his eye and grabbed his attention um but again we just talked about Ryder Lions potentially looking at Oregon or USC does lions feel rushed if he wants to go to Oregon how quickly does he want to make a decision if Duckworth wants to decommit and lock up that spot in Oregon obviously that takes them out of contention for Ryder lions and makes it look more clear that it’s going to be USC so again more dominoes still in play but right now I’m kind of watching Oregon slightly ahead of UCF for the recent South Carolina decommit uh Landon Duckworth I mean we’ve talked about the guys that UCF has been uh in contact with in 2025 I mean Camario Taylor comes to mind committed to Mississippi State Malik Washington comes to mind uh yet to make a decision yet we’ll make one here soon in the next couple days uh at quarterback right now big KJ Jefferson they seem to have a type for what Gus Mal on wants at the quarterback position yeah I mean one of the best athletes he’s a kid that’s been inside our top 100 since it came out for that uh for that class of 2026 I mean you saw it on the screen right there multisport background he can beat you with his legs you know I to me when he decommitted I kind of was going to I was waiting to see what schools Tom was going to bring up you know I think Auburn’s another one that could potentially make some sense there that’s a a local instate option um and and then Alabama you know we’ll see what happens with with FaZe and Brandon but he’s a guy that I thought kind of initially it was a great job of South Carolina scouting him didn’t know about the fit um and in South Carolina takes the 2025 quarterback in Cutter Woods earlier this week and then bam their 2026 opens it up so thought that was notable as well Tom a couple questions from the chat before we get to 2025 we got a quick rundown there in a second uh but what’s the latest Andrew babalola uh moose wants to know Michigan we talked about Stanford on here before uh it seems to be a high academic recruitment Stanford Michigan it seems like those two are going head to-head yeah as soon as we get off here I’m going to jump in and dive into all the questions in the chat and make sure everybody gets answered like we always do but uh with babalola talking to some people over the last couple days it’s it seems like it’s Auburn Stanford Michigan obviously there’s some other teams in play but those are the three that continue to come up um it seemed like Stanford was pulling away and then I don’t know what kind of conversations happened behind the scenes but Auburn went from feeling like they were slipping to feeling like they were in a 50-50 race with Stanford and then Michigan is quickly climbing Cooper I think you were the first one to mention him a while back that fit how good it would be and it seems like Michigan uh really took that to heart and uh picked things up because it’s it’s seems they’re trending in the right direction now again I’m not ready to say like hey let’s crystal ball him to Michigan but I do think those are the three teams in play as he gets closer to a decision which is likely coming uh at some point this summer hey if we got to call people out I’m all for it you know uh Michigan Andrew babalola you talk about the perfect fit that is the perfect fit we’ll see what happens there Stanford Auburn will definitely have their say on that all right Tom we also got a couple commitments in 2025 uh coming up here very soon and one of those guys Chris ewall number 29 Corner in the country fourstar he’s got a commitment coming up tomorrow what are you feeling on this one I’m looking at two teams I’m watching Georgia and I’m watching Miami um the early pulse with him was it seemed like the canes were going to get this one done and there was Zero shot he was leaving the state but a lot of the the things the Rumblings lately has been very Pro Georgia um I think that staff is doing a really good job so kind of torn and talking to Gabby rudia does a phenomenal job uh covering Miami and then we got Benjamin W Kip Adams doing a great job with Georgia so kind of teaming up with those guys trying to figure it out um gut feeling right now a day before his decision I’d probably lean towards Georgia but man really not really sold on that one yet Drew what do you think about that one that this kid’s in your area just about the player a little quick 30 second snipping on him I mean he’s a competitor right you saw it on there he fights man cover just as a kid that’s been doing it since he was you know 8 years old down there in South Florida he battled Jeremiah Smith he battled JoJo Traer in practices at shyan Madonna he is Battle tested and I think at either one of those schools he adds depth to your cornerback room he’s at 6 foot you know a little bit shorter in the arms guy that hasn’t ran he’s not a track guy he’s not someone that runs on the lasers but you’re looking for someone that can play man up uh you know with a safety help over the top I think Chris Ewald is a corner for you all right uh next one and a big one from California dejon number 40 player in the country number four quarterback Drew you and I and the rest of the team we’ve gone back and forth we love this guy uh and stamped him in such a fashion he’s got a decision coming up on Friday Bama Georgia Texas USC Washington A&M all involved Tom where you leaning on this one Greg Biggins leading the charge on this one I I came out of that ot7 in Tampa and I really was close to putting in a crystal ball for Alabama and then I eventually did so and joined Biggins on that so I like Alabama right now Georgia Texas USC Washington and Texas A&M all in play but at this point it’s hard to see him going anywhere other than uh Tuscaloosa to plays college football so and this goes back to this current Alabama staff from when they were at Washington they were doing a great job recruiting djon Lee at that time and that’s just continued since they got to Alabama so I like the tide to get this one done Drew uh salty Salty’s secondary there in 2024 uh and Bak zaven Brown Z miny now you think about potentially adding Deon Lee to that here pretty soon what do you think about that starting to look like uh the secondaries that Nick saan would assemble I mean Deon Lee is a a crane on the perimeter um freak athlete you can pencil him in on the freaks list just with the size he’s pushing 6’4 but the track and field metrics pop as well and then you turn on the tape this is a guy that’s essentially a no-fly zone on his side of the field because he can reach everything uh zaban Brown last year who they got also from the West Coast really polished loved his footwork I thought technically he was one of the most advanced guys in Bak someone I see more in that nickel inside role just based on what we have learned about him what we saw at the Under Armour of the game and then Z meny I mean he’s another freak uh with size so it would give Alabama some options there in the secondary we’ve talked about it in the past they need to reload they need to rebuild they brought some guys in from the transfer portal but it starts with the high school recruiting and this would be four different bodies um that all can do something really really well all of them with traits guys we’re almost at 100 plus live viewers for the second day straight golf clap for the boys appreciate you guys watching tell a friend get us over 100 let’s keep it moving uh Malik Washington a guy that we’ve talked about a lot here over the last week liked what we saw out in La uh at the Elite 11 finals Tom got a decision here on Friday as well Maryland Syracuse UCF Virginia Tech all in it for the DMV standout got to give a couple quick shout outs Here Andrew Ivans all over him since day one um evaluated him not just as a football player but as a basketball player as well so kudos to you for being all over him and his rise but also teaming up with Brian Don here he’s been all over this one on the recruiting side of things and we feel good about Maryland um Syracuse UCF and Virginia Tech are all very much in play down the stretch but getting around him getting to know Mal leik pretty well over the last couple of months seems like the terror pins have set set the tone set the bar at this point and I like Maryland get a to get it done and and just kind of and I know Ivans you’ll talk about him as a player but as a person get getting around him at the Elite 11 finals this kid if he does land at Maryland the terapin f are going to be fired up because this kid’s a dog and he is an alpha I mean he is he’s got a chip on his shoulder and he plays with and he acts like it and I just really like the mental side of this kid and um he’s just one that like you’re buying stock on I think he’s going to be a really really good college player Drew we’ve talked about it a lot uh what the potential fit at Maryland would look like for Malik Washington but just a general overview what you saw last week and how this guy can potentially impact the turps I mean he’s a I thought it was a solid overall showing for him right he was right on The Fringe from making our final 11 I think one of the days we had him in there he’s a playmaking quarterback and I think he excels as a midlevel passer that’s when he’s at his best you look at what he’s done the past two years 21-3 record Coupe I finally got a player comp for him and we’ve used this this guy for a ton of comps in the pass but how about Josh dos when he was at Tennessee he’s hanging around the NFL he can beat you with his arm he can beat you with his legs you know when those guys exit the pocket they are dangerous as open Field Runners and I think that applies to Malik Washington 6’4 215 pounds he’s gone 4 six in the 40 yard dash I’ve talked about it all the time he can throw down the dunks on the hardwood and yes he is a dual threat but he also wants to beat you from the pocket I think his best balls are to that intermediate level he can dial up the velocity um and he can get out fast when he needs to in the face of pressure not a guy that panics so I would love the pickup for Maryland again I think he’s kind of like a face of the program and we talked with the Elite 11 staff that’s a kid they kept bringing up Malik Washington one of the first ones to the me uh that were at the meetings Malik Washington one of the kids that wanted to get better one of the 20 participants that was always asking questions so I think for Mike Loxley this is a kid that could allow them to make some noise in the Big 10 all right Tom last three here I’ll set you up you knock it down Tran Odum Jeff exor Des Bram Odum the three star out of the Carolinas that we like the big defensive lineman down to Oregon Ohio State USC exor uh Penn State Virginia Tech Maryland uh Braum out of the state of Kansas Oregon Old Miss Oklahoma Tennessee all three of these guys got decisions in the next 48 hours what can you tell us about them yeah we’ll start with trade and odm real quick uh Oregon Ohio State and USC are the The Heavy Hitters but I’m really keeping an eye on the Buckeyes and the Ducks here anna Adams been over this one her crystal ball is on Ohio State and I’m very close to putting in one for the Buckey so I like them to get it done like I said ahead of the Ducks Jeff exor Penn State definitely feel good about that one commit June 28th Virginia Tech and Maryland are also in play but Brian Don and I feel like the nitty lions are going to get that one done and then last one danan bra commit on June 29th my crystal ball has been on Oregon for I mean months at this point I think it goes back to maybe battle Miami earlier this spring and Old Miss Oklahoma Tennesse see are doing a great job as well but in the end I think the Ducks get this one done and they have been pushing hard for brain since day one and I think they get it they get it handle Tom ly we appreciate you as always and guys if you’re in the chat Tom ly will stick around for the rest of the show to make sure to answer all those questions that you have submitted over the last half an hour Tom lawyer appreciate it as always guys just a quick reminder that you can find the best college football recruiting in basketball coverage right here at 247 sports.com wall toall team coverage recruiting in rankings transfer portal updates as well everything you need to know right here at 247sports.com and one of those guys that we work with at 247sports.com Bud Elliott one of our favorite guys we’ll get to see him again this weekend out in Tampa at the future 50 but Drew every year he does an article called the Blue Chip ratio and it’s quite notable and it’s quite fascinating and it’s quite in-depth quite honestly it took me about 9 minutes to get through on the CBS Sports by line uh this morning and it is uh packed with a lot of information but I will do my best Andrew as well to try to explain it to you and in simple terms these are buds words of how he explains the Blue Chip ratio quote unquote to win the national championship college football teams need to sign more four and five-star recruits AKA Blue Chips then two and three star players over the previous four recruiting classes although it’s not the most complex calculation it’s an excellent method for identifying the top 10% of teams that realistically have a shot at winning the title uh Drew just in your personal sense uh how much stock do you really kind of put into this exercise over the last couple years when you’re kind of looking at team rankings uh preseason rankings kind of heading in the season and say all right these guys in my mind could be legitimate contenders to win it all well CP I mean uh who was the final four in the college football playoff this past year is you know Alabama Washington uh Michigan uh those teams all had the most guys drafted in the top 100 right so I think this exercise makes a ton of sense now bud does not have has not Incorporated transfers yet and if you read the story he kind of explains why and he also points out it really doesn’t change much with the percentages in terms of I you know guys that are coming in from other programs I think it’s it’s a great exercise you know I always talk about it transfer portal free agents uh the high school recruiting is the NFL giraffe so I love it and the that he outlines backs it up like he he thinks at some point this this uh exercise is is going to end right someone’s going to bust through uh with the magical season he points out Florida State almost did it last year and he kind of outlined that you needed a a a quarterback to exceed expectations but I love it Cooper um and I think it sets the stage for 2024 yeah top four programs you saw there in the graphic Ohio State at 90% Urban Meer talking about maybe the most talented roster in program history there in Columbus certainly the Blue Chip ratio backs that up Alabama at 88% uh I think a lot of conversation has been surrounding kayin deor what will expectations look like in year one a talented roster I think the other thing you got to take into consideration here all right where is that Talent infusion and what’s the experience look like how much of that is littered uh at the point of attack how much of that is littered at the quarterback position uh at the skill positions as well both sides of the football we talked about Alabama ass signing three five stars uh in their defensive backfield last year that certainly weighs into it A&M still sitting around 79% just one back of Georgia but Drew your biggest takeaway looking at one through 16 uh for you uh or or maybe a surprise that maybe kind of jumped out a little bit more than you thought well I wrote down a few different things here I mean number one it’s completely different animal with 12 teams getting into the playoff I think that open up opens up the field so more I wish Bud had gone from like instead of listing 16 teams give us give us 24 teams because I want to know you know what that next crop is I think the other thing I wrote down SEC and Big 10 I mean they had 13 of the 16 SEC has eight leading the way um that’s more than uh you know the Big 12 and the ACCC combined it’s two power conferences uh those guys are at the front uh those those are some of the things that jumped out to me what about you I would say when you look at the top 10 right and we can if we can bring that full screen up again the biggest thing that I go back to and I think you brought it up earlier in the show okay look at these percentages those stand out but who has the quarterback right who has the guy that’s the Difference Maker we talked about guys that you win because of and guys that you win with you look at Ohio State will Howard right there at number one or is it going to be Julian S how’s that going to play out that’s a question mark Alabama brings back Jaylen milro I would argue that’s a guy you win because of Carson Beck projected uh potential first round draft pick a lot of Praise of Conor wigman can you stay healthy uh Oregon goes out and gets Dylan Gabriel Jackson Arnold a guy that we’re very high on even though he’s young and inexperienced Texas with Quinn ERS coming off of cfp Garrett NM what does that look like for LSU Notre Dame brings over Riley Leonard Clemson has Kade kumnick I I would argue eight of these teams seven eight of these teams inside the top 10 have guys at the quarterback position that you can get behind and you talked about the expanded playoff now going from four teams to 12 teams I think it’s it’s only going to make it more fascinating and the other thing for me is yeah Michigan won the national championship last year with a three-year starter and a guy that got drafted in the first round and JJ McCarthy and they were littered with experience all over the field sure maybe the production in terms of the talent doesn’t fall off or the production falls off but maybe the experience is is is very different in terms of Michigan in terms of what they look like Michigan right now you take away JJ McCarthy they’re sitting at 15 at 56% Jim Harbaugh is out of there as well a lot of Staff turnover that’s that’s kind of where I’m going I’m like okay do they have that quarterback that you can kind of get behind that’s kind of the neutralizer when you kind of look at these statistics a little bit um that one’s interesting and you know some other teams Miami sitting there at 61 with Cam Ward like cam Ward to me as a multiplier right he’s one of those guys that can take that roster a little bit further than Clemson right there at 64 they’re talented but what does Kade kumnick look like so I think it’s kind of plus minus how do you balance the quarterback the defense defense are returning production uh in the experience with all of this right uh there’s a lot of VAR variability inside these numbers yeah and I know your next question is right like biggest surprise I mean what jumped out to me Texas A&M at number four you think about Mike Elco coming in I mean I know we have give given Elco plenty of roses in in recent episodes but I think in terms of like a game plan a mentality um you’re going to see it year one a noticeable difference with him running the show there and you know gets me kind of excited about what they could potentially be in year one if Conor Wegman is healthy you know can they upset some people can they contend in the SEC well you look at the look at the Blue Chip ratio and they’re sitting right there at number four almost tied with Georgia and I know that’s fueled heavily by that 2022 recruiting class which um it was scored the highest all time on the 247 Sports composite team ranking so they jump out to me how about Florida at 11 you didn’t talk about Graham Merz I know there’s uh varying opinions out there but Florida I think a lot of people have written off Billy Napier what he’s going to be able to do this season but they they kind of got the guy at quarter me and you have highlighted in this past you look at that defensive to deep I mean it is guys we have liked across the board right they’re in the in the secondary at the mid level of the defense and they’ve also brought in some transfers I think Florida you know to me you just look at that number okay 63% % of the roster it has me feeling a little bit different uh about the Gators and then you know back to Michigan they won it last year with 54% blue chippers so they’re up to 56 here uh this season um you know I thought that jumped out as well player development program you know they always make our rankings look bad in terms of turning three stars into NFL draft picks those ones certainly stood out to me yeah I think the the biggest takeaway for me how about Notre Dame at 67 I think they’re up 5% over the last two years so so you know uh I talked to Bud Elliot about that I called him and he said you know that’s pretty much their success inside the top 247 what they’ve been able to add over the last two years so you got to give Marcus Freeman a ton of credit there Drew how about the other one I mean you know we’ve talked about this program a lot it’s not a shocker uh but to see them here in the top five you know it it goes to show how much work Dan landing’s done in a short amount of time and I think Oregon’s one of those teams they’re sitting there at 76% he’s done a lot of quick work with that program this dude has been absolutely maniacal calling the danal for a reason uh I think this is going to be a team that’s going to continue to climb and they’re going to be in the top three top four conversation year in and year out and only going to go up uh the other team Drew 53% Auburn had number 16 if you want a team to buy stock in over the next three years in terms of talent composite a team that I think can well reach 60% uh by 2027 I would say that’s Auburn uh that’s one of those teams USC sitting at 14 at number uh with 50 9% now going into the Big 10 I just think your margin of error for USC and Lincoln Riley is so much more Slimmer now heading to this conference from the Pack 12 the point of attack that stuff is going to be under a microscope you got to be able to get that right and I think if you looked at USC as a whole a lot of their talent would be coming from the skill position and the quarterback position as well so uh the last question I guess I want to ask you do you have a team that you would Peg as like okay this team over three years and it doesn’t it doesn’t have to be a team uh in the top 16 but maybe a team that you see as a potential riser in these rankings or maybe a team that you can say you know what they’ve had some changes I can see them taking a step back as well I think for the risers uh the two I wrote down Tennessee kind of where are they and then uh and then Florida State as well and I think you know initially when both of those coaches were hired Mike norell at Florida State Josh Hull at Tennesse it wasn’t because of like really their chops as recruiters but they’ve had onfield success um you look at Tennessee some of the battles they’ve won you look at Florida State what they’ve done in the transfer portal I could see both those guys both those programs you know moving closer up closer to 60% those were the two I had um I don’t know about you but I thought those were those are interesting ones yeah I think Florida’s one of those teams that can can keep inching up they’re at 63% we talked about them a little bit what happens with LSU you know what’s funny LSU’s at number eight Mar Marcus Freeman Notre Dame’s at number nine you it seems like the barometer there shoe hasn’t fallen off a cliff but maybe taking a little bit of a step back Notre Dame’s taking a step up now you see those guys really kind of on the same level uh there’s some meat left on the bone in bat and Rouge in my opinion I want to see those guys ramp it back up like I know they’re capable of doing uh Drew with that being said any last takeaways on the Blue Chip ratio before we get into viewer questions did butd highlight it in his story like is there a group of five program that is inched close at all I don’t think so but one thing that’s that’s interesting that we haven’t talked about is like oh miss I think Old Miss is kind of the bracket Buster this year because he talked about I think they had the six best odds to win the national championship this year and that’s just a team that has done it a completely different way not built through high school all pretty much via through the transfer portal now they’ve done some good things complimenting uh through the high score ranks but kind of inverted there uh per se could NC State be a bracket Buster as well uh not in my opinion I I don’t know I’m going off the cuff here maybe not in terms of Blue Chip ratio but in terms of actual real life you know college football playoff I think the other thing he brings up like you got 12 teams strength of schedule injury luck all that type of stuff kind of plays into it as well um so Bud Elliot check that article out on cbssports.com bu Elliott is always doing a tremendous job on the Blue Chip ratio guys also just reminder you’re locked in to the 247 Sports football recruiting podcast you can find us every Tuesday Wednesday noon eastern time make sure to like And subscribe and without further Ado let’s get into some viewer questions and our friend the early bird gets the worm reply guy one of our favorite at zone defense wins he ask who are some of your favorite receivers in the class that currently run 4 six or slower 40 there’s always studs every year who show out in college and eventually the NFL who ran that in high school normally High vert good short shuttle or three cone times who are you betting on immediately in my head uh I went to Jaden great house because that was like uh one of the I would say more intense ranking discussions that we’ve had obviously we have a lot of Notre Dame fans on here um you know and that was one where like physical uh speed projection to the NFL we just didn’t see it and I still think Jaden grous is going to be a uber productive receiver so we’ll see how that pans out but uh Drew I got two uh I know you like this question a lot we were talking about it before the show any names come to mind well rattle off your two I already saw your two uh in the uh Google Document and then I got five more okay but I love this question I love this question because I think with the 40 yard dash times and you know I’ll tell prospects this and and you know people in their camps I think we get so tied up with like the four fours and and the four FS I think you know there’s context with everything guys are going to get faster some guys have never ran on a laser before now when you look at our current top 247 there’s a lot of guys that have gone sub 46 at some point this off season right so there isn’t a ton of them in there um but guys are going to change right and I think every 40 yard dash is kind of different given the circumstances given how old they are you know how heavy they are and whatnot so uh I like this question because it it really gets you thinking like all right who you who you who would you who are you buying stock in and I’ll say it with these receivers I mean it’s so hard to stack the board you know I think you know 1 through 75 you can make a case that hey you know potentially those guys should be in the top 247 we got to take our calculated shots normally those are the guys with maybe but you know I love this love love love the question well you always bring it up so I think reply guy asked a question who were some of your favorite prospects offense or defensive line maybe last week who had shorter arms and it’s a good question and the good thing about it is what I like is it kind of shows a little bit of a shift in Philosophy for where we are as a scouting Department you know we’ve talked about really kind of being big on the height weight speed and the biggest thing is yeah we’re project in these guys to the NFL what we think their NFL draft potential is so you have to be able to have those physical traits and if you look inside the top 247 there’s not a lot of guys uh really outside those prerequisites that we look for but one of those guys that is at 474 at over 200 pounds is Donovan olabode a guy at IMG Academy I think uh originally out of Illinois and Drew just a big creature uh over 6’1 over 200 lb got 11in hands uh maybe some of the best and strong his hands in the class I’m not really worried about speed because he wins a different way right if we got bogged down with speed we were probably going to end up missing on guys like Tori McMillan who we had outside of the top 32 and inside the top 40 and you go back and think all right do they have Elite traits that can continue to show up at the next level and Beyond that’s Donovan olode to me the other guy is a fan favorite of yours Talon Taylor that I like out of Illinois as well um and a guy that’s a really sharp fluid route Runner I think can do it at all three levels as well if you look at his redeeming trait it’s his ability to create consistent separation that’s really what I like about Talon Taylor you can put him any anywhere on the field and that’s what he does uh I I I don’t find it ironic at all that he’s going to Georgia and he’s kind of got a little bit of lad makoni uh in that way and then Drew maybe the last one I got to go back and I got to look up the numbers here but I’m pretty sure Dylan Alfred uh just decommitted uh from Old Miss a guy that I like a lot playing with KJ Lacy and sarand kind of a Jarvis Landry kind of physical play Style run after catch guy uh wins uh at the catch point with his strength uh and his his high level that competes um but a guy that I don’t think is going to run well I don’t think he’ll ever be a 44 guy but certainly a guy if you’re looking for a third receiver on your team that can get it done uh in a lot of different ways those three dudes all kind of show up for me yeah I like those three uh all right I’ll give you my five Tyler Williams just committed to George outside the top 247 he is scratched the only 40 that we got on him but he’s an 1158 kid in the 100 meter dash right so I don’t think he’s someone that’s going to run in the four FS or or the four fours you know I just re wrote him up this morning because he was picking the bull doogs again like I he can work a full router you know average over 22 yards a catch as a junior catch and passes from a a senior that is going to play defensive back at Florida you know to teams highlights he’s got five returned touchdowns um you know he’s one you know that we’ve talked about moving up the board Marcus Harris who committed to Oklahoma we saw him out at the Elite 11 finals that’s a 465 kid thicker build but he’s 419 in the short shuttle kind of an inside receiver sets you up uh with that short area quickness he’s one Jerell Boulder who just committed to NC State 465 at 511 190 lbs he’s got a 31 in vert uh 45 three in the shuttle we really like that guy High floor Prospect really good at contested catches he’s won uh and then two more uh Sam Turner Georgia Tech commit we talked a little bit about the yellow jackets on the front end 466 at 61 and a half 190 PBS 421 short shuttle I think with Sam Turner What’s you got to remember with him okay he doesn’t turn 17 till August so he’s running a 466 on the lasers as a 16-year-old you know he’s a guy that we like High three star Prospect and then final one you said the name T-Mac C this kid’s on the discussion board I don’t know if you’ve buzzed him but I’m a fan Terry Shelton Arizona wide receiver commit big 6’4 body I see the T-Mac in him in terms of his ability to go up and get the football his only 200 meter dash time it’s 23 seconds that registers I think is an 89 speed score for us so those are some other ones there’s there’s a bunch out there but I try to pick five guys that have already made commitments pretty uh elaborate list there and I love it I mean think that’s a it’s a good exercise for us because it gets you thinking about guys that maybe might not be sufficient in every desirable trait that you’re looking for or a guy that’s got to win a lot of different ways so uh there you go reply guy hopefully uh you got the full lot there about eight different prospects that don’t run in the four FS that could make an impact at the next level Drew will stay on receivers this one was for me yesterday um not even going to try to figure out how to say that name but we appreciate the question he said so there are four receivers better than CJ Wy a receiver that had 1500 yards and 14 TDS as a junior and 7A Georgia football how about this uh CJ Wy at the time of that question being asked I believe had not committed yet commits to Florida state Georgia LSU both in it big win from Mike norell uh he said after that he’s going to keep the recruitment over I believe uh open I believe right now we have CJ Wy not his number 14 we have number 25 back yeah he’s back there tucked in the top 247 and and Drew I think it’s fair to say there’s been a little bit of a variance of opinion the other thing I would say and I want to speak for Andrew I think the hardest position to stack just nationally across the board and find a consensus on is receiver uh because everybody has a little bit of a different uh feel for what they want at the receiver position some guys are attracted to size some guys are attracted to speed some guys quickness separation ability uh you know Domin at the catch point you can go a lot of different ways for how you want it to look um so CJ Wy right there and in terms of a guy of of what you’re looking for obviously has a verified track and uh Field Time metrics as well but big vertical threat long u 6’8 plus wingspan 64 3/4 209 he’s got the goods uh the way that I would put this one instead of getting into is he 14 is he 25 is he 10 is he five in the recruiting rankings this is a guy that has our full attention that we are really excited about to see his senior year uh and obviously has a lot of desirable traits to kind of go with it as well well it seems like these are always the questions we get oh there’s you know 14 14 receivers better than him I every cycle there’s a receiver I mean I would encourage him to you can go through our top 247 and watch all 25 of them and you want to rank them one through 25 you let me know where CJ CJ Wy slots in Cooper you brought it up he’s a bigger guy there isn’t a ton of wide receivers in our top 247 right now that are over 200 pounds CJ wy’s someone that has scratched his weight multiple times like I think he’s closer to 220 than he is 200 having sized him up having watched him work out in Atlanta having seen him at multiple seven on sevens like yeah man that that’s kind of where we slot him right now heading into the senior season right again we keep saying it with the wide receiver position we’re going to ride our horses the guys that we feel the best about at the end of the day you got to pick who goes where it’s not easy we’re going to get we’re going to get guys wrong but right now we got a day three G grade on CJ Wy um to me I think the fit at Florida State you saw what they did with with Johnny Wilson and Keon Coleman you’re getting a big perimeter Target a guy that can make contested 50/50 uh grabs on the outside he’s great vertical R uh vertical route Runner top end speed I think he went 1082 and the 100 meter dash I love the pick up for Florida State I think a lot of people thought he was going to end up at Georgia you talked to Tom ly I kept bringing this up like is Georgia gon to bring you know take CJ Wy and and Travis Smith who they’re also involved with inside the top 247 I thought that was a bit confusing because they’re similar players but uh you know CJ Wy I again I like the fifth in Florida State yeah CJ Wy good player fire fired up to watch his senior season um all right Drew last two questions Here Andrew Mormon asks he says with the Pack 12 influx coming to the Big 10 do you see them influencing the play in the Big 10 slightly becoming more offensive driven or do the four West coasters end up being more ground and pound I think this is an excellent question uh just in terms of the battle of the wills here uh with the Pack 12 uh for going into the Big 10 and you think about those teams Oregon Washington uh UCLA n USC um you know I think it’s more of a case by case I think Oregon is actually built to play in the style of the big 10 I think UCLA under Deshawn Foster Eric B enemy is kind of more wait and see we’ll see what happens there I think USC and Lincoln Riley like he is who he is uh we have seen that I think it’s going to be super fascinating to see how these guys kind of adapt at the point of attack in the front seven what does that really kind of look like and does Lincoln Riley kind of throw some wrinkles in there and I can also see Lincoln Riley having that impact on the Big 10 uh maybe these guys got to get a little bit lighter maybe they have to get a little bit more athletic maybe you have to get guys that are a little bit more acclimated to playing in space so yeah I can see USC having an impact and then uh Washington with Jed fish uh I think Jed fish at Arizona is kind of proven he can do it a lot of different ways man and he is an adaptable coach uh and he is a extremely bright coach and I’m kind of excited about their roster building what they got going on at udub and he’s a little bit of a chameleon to me whatever it calls for I think Jed fish can dish it out so a little bit of everything um and yeah on the on the opposite end maybe some of those big 10 teams I don’t think they’re going to go uh all the way inverted in terms of how they’re building their roster but they’re going to be some changes uh that are just going to have to come with time once you get more acclimated to what your opponent looks like I think it’s a good question I mean the thing that jumps out to me Oregon seems to be preparing for a line of scrimmage League just with how they have a approached uh point of attack recruiting uh under Dan Lanning and yes Dan Landing comes from Georgia you learned from Kirby Smart they’re trying to grab as match as much mass as possible but you know TR and Odum he just we talked with Tom L about uh him coming off the board organs a finalist like you can see it with the Ducks recruiting in terms of okay they’re picking their battles they’re trying to find these big bodies around the country I think they do a good job of maybe steering away from going head-to-head with the Bulldogs It Seems like by Design but anyone else they can scoop up and they feel like they have a chance with they’re doing just that and Tran Odin is someone that can play in the Big 10 so that stands out to me and then Washington I think uh this was pointed out in one of our slack channels yesterday they just got like three tight end commitments here over the past few days you don’t think that’s someone that’s preparing for uh trench play in a different conference so I it’s a chess game but it seems like more of these former Pack 12 members are preparing for the current uh Big 10 style and yeah like you pointed out it could certainly change uh once Lincoln Riley’s called plays in that conference all right Drew we got a little bit of uh some breaking news on on the way out here Joshua Moore guy that we’ve talked about on this show has committed to Florida from West Broward 64205 uh from the state of Florida drew the number 47 receiver in the country we have him as a 89 overall highest three star ranking you can have uh we olied on this guy before but just your thoughts on what Billy nap here in Florida are getting here I think this is a much needed recruiting win for Billy Napier right now heading into July someone that had also visited Florida State Miami I think Georgia was kicking the tires on him I mean the Gators prior to that commitment were 71st in the rankings that was like four spots ahead of uh Florida Atlantic they needed to get some momentum going to me Joshua Moore your prototypical ex receiver I also uh wrote him up this morning you know 6’4 200 lb I think with him got to win with the release cuz I I don’t know if he’s got that top end gear going to go back to our wide receiver convers a with the 40 yard dash and the speed markers there’s nothing on Joshua Moore I think he’s kind of a one-speed player with that being said he’s got a massive catch radius he’s excellent in back shoulder situations you think about Florida’s offense what they want to do under Billy Napier more of a pro style Set uh those guys on the outside they got to block and then they got to get open at timely moments and I think Josh Moore can do just that so Florida finally in my opinion big instate win for them down in South Florida I like this pickup I know we’re going to get pushed back about where he’s ranked and whatnot I think we got it right right now having dug back into him um and we’ll see another one we’re going to evaluate as a senior I think he’s one of those guys that goes into that box where you turn on the combine tape and you’re like all right there there’s something here with this kid he’s big he’s fluid he can get in and out of breaks he seems to be a natural pass catcher then you turn on the tape and you don’t see it uh whether it’s production or kind of the same urgency or what you saw in that combine setting that’s a good thing that’s okay for Florida and right now if they’re going to jump on that guy like if this kid had it figured out Dre I think it would be one of those guys that would be a pretty easy addition to the top 247 Florida banking on the fact that he’s still got some stuff uh to figure out going into his senior season but a lot of Developmental upside there you can’t teach that size uh and combination of athleticism as well all right Drew let’s get out on this question uh from our boy Kane’s cats and uh Kane’s cats always checking in on us he says now that s on seven and Elite 11 is over what happens during this time frame for both both of you it’s sort of a dead period for you guys question mark what do you guys do now during this time um Drew you want to go first I mean you’re you’re the one that’s uh drinking through the fire hose every day let’s see we got about uh a discussion board with a hundred players uh that have made commitments that we haven’t graded yet we are grading guys as fast as ever um so it doesn’t stop now we’re we’re meeting uh we’re going to have a 2025 update coming out here pretty soon it’s going to be heavy on the quarterbacks we’re going to make some moves kind of position guys heading into the senior Seasons there are going to be some college camps showcase type events at the end of July um but for us I mean it is multiple Cycles we juggling you know this upcoming weekend we got the future 50 completely different event we touched on that before but I mean it is I think what Brandon Huffman uh pointed it out there’s like 60 kids expected 58 of them are inside the top 247 tons of quarterbacks and that’s for the 2026 cycle right so then we update the 26 then we roll out the initial 100 for the top uh for uh the class of 2027 we got the freaks list coming up and then you’re right into the season so there is no uh break or lag in any way when it comes to what we’re doing right now and we’re continuing to like I said write up guys all the time we’ll get a couple uh quiet days hopefully uh over the fourth July that week Tuesday Wednesday Thursday we’re looking forward to that but uh yeah no it’s all system go at all times Tom ly Brandon Huffman uh Drew butd Elliot myself will all be down there in Tampa this weekend at the future 50 and then in terms of the events it kind of cools off uh but the time to kind of take a breath and then you go 25 update 26 27 like Drew talked about uh and never ends but it’s fun uh we’re in a unique position and we’re glad to have that responsibility as well guys we appreciate you watching the 247 Sports football recruiting podcast like I say all the time you can find us every Tuesday and Wednesday right here at noon eastern time make sure to like like And subscribe for Tom ly
