[Music] [Music] it’s round two as LIF go returns to the beautiful Andalucia at the iconic real Club valderama fans showed up excited through the windy day to see the live golf Spaniard Superstars compete but in the end it was a stinger GC takeover with Dean burer at the top of the individual leaderboard finishing five under along singer GC finishing at the top of the team leaderboard can they keep this up all that and more welcome to Club 54 pre-round show I’m your host Christian Crosby and joining me is the one and only Gonzalo Fernandez castano seven time worldwide winner among so many other things of course your favorite live golf analyst Jerry fultz welcome boys honor to be here as always great to be back with our new superstar that shoty hit on 17 in the post round show yesterday come on I got to agree man he still got it I’m as surprised as you are I mean I didn’t expect that at all now you weren’t lying yesterday valderama plays hard uh only three teams finished under par yesterday from you two I want to hear a big recap from round one sorry with you Jerry well first of all we’ve had two rounds in the history of live golf where no player went bogey free here yesterday and here a year ago the first round a year ago you had one hole average uh under par for the entire day 17 holes at par or over the golf course was genuinely the star the toughest highest uh stroke average for the field of any round in live golf history it was Carnage it was Carnage out there I I I really was felt very happy I wasn’t playing because it was brutal I mean I think it’s um seven rounds over 80 and and only and only five guys on the park just shows you I mean we’re a bit of mocus here in valderama I went into the members Pavilion yesterday and they were all proud and happy because we just like to show off how difficult our Golf Course can be yeah it’s and and the thing about it is there are a lot of courses you can trick out to make them impossible to play and have a high stroke average this one is still very fair it’s just brutal well let’s take a look at the individual leaderboard Dean berer from Stinger GC at the top of that bad boy Jerry take us through this he said he had the best putting day in his life and the stats prove that out when you look at uh how he played Strokes game versus the field it was the third best round of golf in live golf history second best this year the the pce setter for all of our short brief history now in two and a half years is Waco neeman’s 59 at Maya COA Dean burm beat the field average Yesterday by 8.52 shots that is astonishing what what did you take away from we had him on the post round show yesterday what was the biggest thing you took away from our interview with him well the biggest thing you ever take away from interview with Dean is how likeable he is how much you just wish you could be around the guy every single day he’s just a fun guy but uh he even said it he goes you know I had the putting round in my life he said probably the best putting round of his entire career you can’t count on that every day can you no and especially on the windy conditions they had I mean I always find pton and greens as fast as this one and it was as as as windy as it was yesterday I think ptin is probably one of the hardest thing to just how to compensate the win for the break so I mean when you have a date like that 500 it’s probably one of the best rounds I’ve seen around here all right well let’s take a look at our boy Burmy from round one t us Stewart Jerry and feel free to chime in to Gonzalo let’s take a look at some of his highlights here we go we’re going to start out it well there he is uh first before we get into the highlights being a superstar he’s very good at this too well was in Miami where he adopted a bunch of South Africans that he had met the day before got him tickets and then sprayed champagne on them after this is for birdie out of 10 you just don’t make a lot of these but especially on these greens do you not at all I mean there’s a very very slowy greens and I mean some of them are very Exposed on the wind I mean this was just unbelievable yeah P class I mean 11 uh the only whole plane on the car as you said two birdies on this hole all day long and this is one of them another putt that you’re just trying to get close aren’t you it’s that’s that’s a hell of a butt downhill all the way left to right I mean the field the touch it’s just unable you can see he was having a blast yeah and here’s another one again these are the putts as a pro you feel you you can make and maybe should make some of but you never expect it that one curls in as well at 17 or that was at four and then the perfect Pace every time yeah then he capped it off here with probably the shortest birdie pot we saw him make other than the tap in at the par five that number five five under par believe it or not that five under par is it’s Shambo shot eight under last year 63 that was not technically a better round than yesterday’s based on stroke average wow yeah well let’s talk about a guy named Sergio Garcia it’s clear that he knows his course very well he led for most of the day in round one uh just give me your take on as you watch him how incredible it is Gonzalo you can I mean you can see from his demeanor he just feels comfortable he feels like at home this is this is his course he know it’s it suits his game perfectly and he knew he had an advantage they most of the guys they they they didn’t know they’ve never played with this win with this win before they play a practice round with a totally different win so it was kind of a new course for most of them but not for sheru yeah and you say it fits his game perfectly and the stats prove that out he was hands down the favorite from an analytic standpoint starting today and I think one of the reason well there’s a couple of reasons number one accuracy is a premium here as you know all too well and number two this course is the great equalizer for not only putting but also for power it doesn’t take power power to play great here and nobody other than Dean burm uh usually typically makes a lot of putts here cuz you’re always just trying to get on the center of the green I mean Dom will tell you later but not many guys hit very many greens yesterday in general you’re just I mean center of the green you’ll take every time won’t you well definitely he’s one of those coures that greens are small if you’re in the middle of a green you’re going to have a barely chance most of the time Sergio’s had some playoffs uh that he could not complete what is it that Sergio needs to do to go all the way and get on that Podium here at home well I think it’s just he needs maybe hold a couple more short pads and then that would be it I mean he’s going to have the the home support he’s got as you can see he’s wearing the Spanish flag on his on his Fireball uniform today so I think he’s going to have all the all the support he needs well and it’s interesting yesterday he finished 12th in Strokes gain out of a field to 54 that’s pretty good for Sergio the putter is not his his strong suit and he did make I think four or five of those six8 10 Footers yesterday a number of them for par like most players have so that’s a good sign that’s a good sign it’s obviously I think a reflection how comfortably is these greens as well well go well it’s for me Sergio is All About Sundays I mean if he can hold those bets on Sunday uh then is when when we when we’ll see him getting that that deserve Victory I think we’ve seen that movie too many times we all just keep hoping he does have more Sundays like that well another Hometown hero John Ram who has done such a great job finishing in the top 10 every round what would you say John Ram needs to do uh to really finish through here at home it just seems like the perfect moment coming out of a great week in Nashville coming now home with all that energy he’s healthy what do you see he needs to do well I mean yesterday I think he had the round pretty much under control until he got to 17 I think he just needs to get a little better on those final holes we’ve seen a bit of that this year he did in maak kova he it in Vegas just that final push yep I I agree I watched a new Netflix series with Jeff Daniels it’s a produc executive produced by David E Kelly I’ve been a big fan of his for years but John ROM’s rounds of golf are like a David E Kelly series on TV it always always is spectacular when it starts off and through the middle and then DAV Kelly every series I’ve ever seen he done he triple Bogies the last toll he always ends them so poorly and that’s what rah’s been doing with his rounds all season long ending them poorly now there was a moment on 17th with Rah Gonzalo you put your money where your mouth is cuz you told us how hard it was on 17th then you did your thing on 17th with Rachel but here was this moment yesterday with John ROM talk us through this what happened here well he was unfortunate the ball was sitting on a bit of an up slope and then I mean he HD what he he said it he hit a perfect shot but one of those gust and one of once the ball gets up in the air anything can happen there and here’s Bryson Des Shambo he also had a moment here on 17th as well well he had a downhill lie in an elevated bunker that had to pitch over a valley to a green that slopes to the abyss down there he had to he had to take caution at a premium and probably just try and leave it short of the Green in my opinion there um he didn’t mean to fly it on the green he was trying to get Q with and landed into the bank and get it close and he paid the ultimate priz well Bryson Des Shambo is arguably the biggest star in golf right now and this I think there’s an argument I don’t think there’s an argument I I couldn’t agree with you more Jerry and this week he’s been reflecting on his incredible US Open win let’s take a look I love cutting you off when I was a kid growing up I always wanted to win a US Open winning that tournament is is meant there is nothing like it look at the reception that he is getting it’s it’s pretty emotional I’m just very very thankful for what happened brys Des Shambo is the hottest player on the planet right now he is transcending the sport give people as much as I can as much time as I can as much five five as I can it’s uh been a whirlwind will be here all night [Applause] just everything the way it happened how it all played out was wild and only gives me more passion and inspiration to help Inspire future [Music] Generations the Fireballs currently sit in eighth place in the team standings but they’re heating up in two of the past three events they finished runner up well the Fireballs still lead but it’s narrowed we’ve been closed a couple of times so we know the quality of players that we have is just a matter of finding that that consistency oh yes Sergio the clch fist we’ve been through obviously some victories but a lot of downs that we haven’t really performed the way we know we can good that’s for me well it’s taken 41 holes for aan to Blink it’s just I mean even though when he’s going bad I still love it you know I have a lot of love for these game since I was little I I love the struggles I think you don’t have anything good without struggles Char is up it’s another bir that is simply magnificent getting super close of the win it’s something that makes me very happy to to achieve that goal and hopefully I can perform well oh beautifully done by David po the Catan you know we have five tournaments left so a lot of golf to be played still and you know hopefully we can we can finish nice and [Music] strong absolutely love seeing the Fireballs do their thing there’s a team dinner which we know about very well Jerry uh talk about this Fireballs team Jerry well our team dinners aren’t quite like that although we did have a nice one with our commissioner the other night that uh will go down in the history in the in the memory bag is one of the more fortuitous nights we get to have as a team but nonetheless um these guys are they’re they’re first of all they share a passion they share a common language they share a passion they share a fire but they also each share a ton of talent absolutely I think um it was good to see oeno playing well yesterday I think he need he needed that round and we’ll see we’ll see how he performs [Music] today all right now clearly we we talked a lot about how difficult valderama is but I want to talk a little bit about the conditions there was a lot of win yesterday Gonzalo but it seems a little different today what’s going to be the difference today with the weather in comparison to yesterday totally different day than yesterday yesterday was Carnage as we said balderama sh steeve today is the day to make a move uh they’ve got the win in the opposite direction so they’re going to play a totally different course part three is on the back nine yesterday were both down win today are going to be into the win but if there’s a day you want to go low in balderama this is it I mean and they need it some guys need a good round they need the birdies and as you told us when we talked before uh before the week even started that wind is this course’s natural defense not only is this the predominant wind that they’re used to the guys who have played here before none more than Sergio but it’s as light as you’re ever going to find it here isn’t it I mean we’re talking 5 to 10 gust smacks and we had up to 28 yesterday and probably the most important thing being is this wind is coming from the sea so it’s more humid so the greens are going to be way more receptive yday you could see the were firming up throughout the day today is going to be soft and I mean today the day to get this and if you’re not going good it’s going to be 13 14 degrees Fahrenheit cooler today so it’s just not going to feel you’re not going to feel as mad at yourself I’m I’m totally happy to hear that J all right let’s take a look at the team leaderboard Jerry feel free to talk us through it but what a day only three teams finishing under par in round one wow Jerry talk about it well the singers bring a whole lot of experience to the table and also the guy with the hand on the greens and the individual leader in Dean burmester but I picked them I’m sticking with them I don’t think they can lose this event Fireballs GC is your winner who do you see on there that might have surprised you from a team standpoint Gonzalo because I know you know I know a lot of this part is you’ve been following it for a while but every once in a while the name really sticks out to you to me it’s Majestics definitely but those guys they know their course I mean Le um Ian Henrik they played this course hundreds of time and experience around this course is key so I I I want to see the Majestics uh doing well this weekend I want to see like I said in the post post round show yesterday you were you were out there hitting great shots on 17 I want to see Spain and England on a team playoff just before the kickoff of the Euro Cup how insane would that be yeah we root for stories well clearly Stinger GC is doing their thing here in valderama let’s go backwards let’s take a look at round one for Stinger GC how the course play tough Bo tough going in the team competition for some of these quartets 2 1 it was tough and and we all knew it starting like anything around level par probably going to be a very good score today Stingers off to a pretty good start there Arlo lovely shot from Dean bur it’s probably one of the best putting rounds I think I’ve ever had um as a professional honestly I just felt so comfortable over the putter well Dean burm is taming valder armor as very few are today this is for the outright lead yeah I mean obviously Dean’s playing really well um it looked like at a stage we we might be playing together Dean bur quite incredible 66 in the context of these conditions have held Le for the most part of the day anybody can shoot an incredible score and I’ll just got to stick to my guns and see what happens Stinger GC showed up to party baby but the question is with the change in the conditions will this team play as well today gono what’s your answer well the way Dean is playing I mean it’s it’s it’s I would say he’s going to go low The Stingers are going to do well but wait for the P balls I think they’re they’re coming behind and they’re hungry now I want to know what you guys both are watching for in round two but first let’s check in with dom and suan over to you players are going to be playing a completely different golf course today Dom the wind has switched it’s a very different wind from yesterday opposite direction a bit more familiar for them uh something that they’ve played during the practice rounds certainly not as strong as yesterday as well so players who are like one over two over even three over can look to make up some ground today uh and try and Chase that leading pack absolutely it was so hard yesterday San you know I looked at the stats only eight players in the entire field hit more than half the greens in regulation like you say it’s not going to be the same today it’s a little bit easier they’re going to hit more greens but being the smallest greens we see all year and there’s still a bit of wind and the greens are firming up they’re still going to miss greens you’ve got to have a Shar short game like the guys did yesterday who are top of the leader B thank you Dom thank you suan uh let’s talk a little bit about these guys Under Pressure uh at the bottom of that leaderboard Jerry you said when you’re in that position you it sounds cliche but you got to take it one step at a time they do but they’ve got a mountain to climb right now a lot of those guys down near the bottom of the table uh the red relegation the Drop Zone if you will who did not play well yesterday C shoya Brandon Grace you only have three more individual tournaments remaining to earn some points and remember if you finish 24th you get one point so you’re not going to earn enough to really make a big difference you have to get to get 10 points you have to finish in the top 10 all the way up to 40 points for a win they don’t need good weeks they need great weeks at this point wow what do you say Gonzalo well I mean if the a course that it’s not not ideal to find your your your your way back into the game and your Rhythm and and your swing it’s it’s valderama I mean this is one of those fores that gets you Tighter and Tighter and it’s difficult just to to get loose and and having a bad first round is definitely not going to help but today I mean if there’s a day to make a move this has to be it yes but like John ROM told you compared 72 holes compared to 54 you can’t have a bad day and if you do have a bad day two two rounds left on this you can make up some ground but you’re not going to make you’re not going to get your name on the first page of that leaderboard nowadays if you want to if you want to make a move I mean you can afford just an average round you need three excellent rounds out here we’ll talk more about that in just a second but take a look at the beautiful Andalucia Lush greens historic course and Clubhouse and of course you need to put that on your bucket list last year tqu took home the team title with an impressive win that included a strong performance from their former teammate and current fire baller David po we got to catch the Four Aces I know four aces running away so consistent yeah we’re not consistent we were talking about it I mean how can we win three times and then still not be on the lead yeah I mean I won it pretty badly okay looking to go back to back the last day it was it was me and Sebastian playing with Dustin b with that bir Sebastian made his birdie and that has got T just a stroke behind he was super close during the whole day so you sensing that the local fans are now behind to yeah absolutely I mean Muno and David both have their family and the best friends all out here the energy was pretty cool so be able to you know birdie with your teammate which is Spaniard what a team we’re seeing emerge on four we both made Birdie on eight we both made birdie so we’re like double biring on Dustin and then obviously watching the the leaderboard and then by the end I was like okay we’re like two up okay three up six up birdie at 18 he has been fantastic in the final round it was great to compete here in Spain in front of all these people until the last spot so that was I was a cool part to watch I was sitting down here and you know Tor are our team champions here in fer armor a third win of the season a second straight Victory I was talking to Haku and we’re like we have three now but if we can get another one the teams are going to start being pretty pissed and that’s that’s what we [Music] [Applause] [Music] want Rachel Drummond always does a phenomenal job giving us the behind the scenes when she’s on the Range and she has no sign of stopping anytime soon it’s time for Rachel hey Rachel what’s going on on the Range day two vama oh my if you watched the coverage yesterday it was so tough out there so windy green fast positional play it was ridiculous now I’m going to grab this man here James you’re a key part of the two-time manger senior champ sure you’re a key part of the team you know why is he so consistent he’s even playing great this week he’s playing normal you know good I think we hit 13 greens yesterday really consistent ball Striker and yeah probably shouldn’t say that would have a bad day now but no he’s he’s been playing lovely commentator curse Blandy you happy two-time major champ no never happy English sarcasm what did you put your consistency in ball striking down to uh playing the wisley with you a couple of years ago uh did I beat you uh no but you showed me how not to chip so no I just think you know just kind of just figuring Golf out that’s it it’s just learning your trade I’ve said I say this to all the the young kids you you just got to sometimes you got to go down the wrong road to you know to get to the right road so uh you know I know I now know what works I know what doesn’t so I just stick to what doesn’t work it’s emotional that’s life lessons play well Blandy keep playing great right Danny Lee let’s get a look at him hitting some shots he had the lowest par 4 average 3.64 which in the conditions was was just unbelievable works with Drew stles say coach got the alignment stick Down On Target working on that P1 to P2 he’s hitting it beautifully right I’ve lost my cameraman but I want another girl Nicole Garcia he’s going to have to hunt me down now Nicole Garcia I played with on the L Nick come with me we’ve lost cameraman here we go this is Nick right you’re not only a three-time winner professional you walk around with the stingers and you saw the conditions how was it out there it was so tough greens were rock hard wind was pumping I mean there golf courses hard to start with it’s such a difficult place um to play golf so uh Dean’s round was probably the best round of golf I’ve ever seen actually it was incredible and also your husband coaches him Grant yeah what’s he saying how’s he playing what’s the consensus from coach Grant well I mean yesterday when we walked off the range D didn’t seemed too happy but Grant was convinced that he was hitting the ball unbelievable and yeah that was the proof I think maybe you know a little bit of stress and nerves beforehand you’re not 100% sure how the day is going to go but obviously as he started to play um yeah it was some great golf to see love that Nick I love how you saying he didn’t think he you know was playing well there he is There’s the Man Dean burm Grant you want to have a quick word this is coach Grant Nick has oh Dean do you want a quick word come on go on you were playing you were playing a different Golf Course yesterday number one in putting give us a putting tip all credit to my putting coach not being here this week it’s probably that no um yeah we just worked on a lot of pace stuff uh granted on the pting green and yeah that’s what we were told to do so we did that and it paid off right yeah 100% I think the work’s already done I think just getting to know these greens quite well and make sure you can put line and Pa together start on to that’s why you paying the big bucks play well today right let’s keep on going G’s trainer just there as well here we go Casey doing his 50 ball warm up I want we’re going to need to run we got one more person I want to speak to Spencer Matthews who’s about to do 30 marathons in 30 days all quickly we’ve got a guy that’s won round here what’s the answer to valderama uh play better than I played yesterday that is that is the only thing I need to do uh look this is a great Golf Course proper test small greens super fast they slow back to front uh you miss the fa on the wrong side you’re knackered you missed the green on the wrong side you’re also pretty so uh it’s it’s an incredible test of golf I’m giving you the Positive Vibes You’ve Won go out there and play well today right this is the other man Spen and Matthews 30 marathons in 30 days yeah you know golf is about mentality what have you learned in this process of getting ready for that oh wow uh big question just um yeah just just to take it as it comes try and enjoy it you know we’ve covered covered just over 2,000 kmers in the preparation for the event uh it’s Cas it’s it’s desert conditions right so so so 30 consecutive marathons 30 days uh all on Sand uh making it a world record attempt it’s in just under 2 weeks so it’s it’s very real uh and and very exciting but delighted to be here today uh guest of the Majestics and uh loving it here with the family final thought you know what’s the experience like you’re here with your family oh it was wonderful I mean couldn’t think of a better place to be delighted to be a guest of the great and pter and uh you know wishing them all the best and uh yeah I mean what a day what a day for it go andjoy checks in the post thank you so much so much right it might be slightly better conditions out here today but it is still vama let’s see who makes the charge hey thank you so much Rachel that might have been an alltime record for how many people you got in there so quickly great job all right time to toss it over to two of the most spiffy guys in our crew no offense Gonzalo toss it over to David and Arlo in the booth what’s up boys Christian thank you very much indeed another glorious day here in valderama and with think the conditions are going to be slightly kinder to our 54 man field today collectively 190 overpar yesterday which kind of puts Dean bur’s 66 500 power into perspective what a great round that was are the conditions going to be kinder today and why David well uh we can see from behind us here the flags are hanging limp and what there is is blowing in the opposite direction so holes like 12 and 15 you know are going to have a very slight you know end the breeze aspect to them that actually makes them easier um and it’s a golf course that uh you know it’s tight it’s narrow it’s fast it’s a great preparation for Royal trun you know and I think we’re going to see lower scores today you know because of the direction of the wind you described it early as as an inland lyns yes yeah well it’s playing very much like that you know a lyns with a bunch of furniture yeah well it should be fascinating today can burm get it done again on Super Saturday but all eyeses of course here on the likes of jakara Sergio Garcia and John Rah and what is a big weekend for Spanish sport Christian we’ll take it from you at the top of the hour hey big thanks Arlo and David got me excited there Arlo now earlier this week Rachel Drummond had the chance to spend some time on the range with Brooks Kea tune in to our round two post show later today to get driver tips from one of the world’s best golfers now you are one of the best fif actually on live with driving not just length but accuracy so that’s what we’re going to talk about to all right there’s our leader Brooks C right so all great golf swings are built on great foundation so can we start there one of the only things I’m trying to do when I get over the golf ball is make sure that that lined up correctly and then ball position and then from there I just kind of let it all naturally happen right so I try to keep my feet a little bit left to that which is parallel um to that 250 I try to make sure that ball position is just inside I probably play it a little further back most people and then from there I try to make sure my shoulders match it and then from there it’s just a Turn and Burn for me just like that make sure you guys do not miss tuning in to that in the post show it’s pretty incredible now Gonzo before you get out of here and before we get into that shotgun start I got to ask you what are your final thoughts as we get into round two well definitely an easier day today I think we’re going to see way many more birdies and more importantly more smiles you could see the faces yeah after the round yesterday those guys were exhausted it was a tough test so today I think we’re going to see them smiling you got on a Crushers Polo does that mean you’ve changed your Vote or what did you switching up on us I’m still at clicks you know I’m still at clicks but hey Bryson Bryson is my guy as well
