what’s he got yeah uh happy Thursday Scotty to you of course uh as we do have a lot of day baseball and Paul skes is on the mound which means he is the focus he is through three Innings against the Brewers up in Milwaukee not a bad line uh three Innings no hits no runs one walk seven strikeouts uh through three Innings so your boy and uh he’s he just had quite the battle with William contras who fouled off a bunch of pitches uh against him but skem was able to win the battle as he struck him out to finish off that bottom of the third so they’re in the top of the fourth now your boy rowdy rowdy uh is leading off against AAL I did a small uh toe dip in the water on Rowdy and Brian Reynolds today thinking that savali would be a little bit of a gas can he’s given up a lot of homers this year so we’ll see if we can get those across back in brewtown maybe remember me home run yeah he didn’t have one there seali struck him out to lead off the fourth inning so hopefully next time around we can get Rowdy uh going big fly for us there are a couple of other games going on as well uh tigers have opened it up against the Guardians 10 to one they now lead them as they go to the seventh inning in Detroit look out the Mets now have a five nothing lead over the Nationals top of the seventh inning at City Field the Reds have a 4-1 lead Over the Rockies they move to the bottom of the seventh in Cincinnati there is one other day game that we are going to have for ourselves and that is the Blue Jays and the Giants in San Francisco they get started and about 35 40 minutes from now out in the bay where you will have Kevin Gosman and Jordan Hicks going today for us Scotty uh there you see right there uh numbers at this moment uh minus 126 for the Giants plus 108 for the Jays and a s and a half on a Thursday afternoon at Oracle look I I’m guessing runs in the day at Oracle wind blowing uh both these guys have uh ER Gosman 46 Hicks 34 uh they have the same kind of numbers Gosman strikes out a little bit more guys than Hicks does I gotta just see that number boy Toronto at plus 110 yeah I don’t know everyone in their brothers on San Francisco I kind of think Gman will beat Hicks today and the Giants by the way in that Detroit game Green’s got three RB’s Ella’s got three RBIs they’re knocking around cica against the Guardians today and as for that Mets game at City Field I just wanted to see uh nmo with h three RB Martinez and Alonzo with rbii as well for the Mets at City at City uh no doubt about that uh as we’ll see McKenzie Gore not a great start for him uh this afternoon all right we’ll do the rest of the baseball of course uh as we continue on throughout Coast to Coast I do have a couple of other things for you uh they have finished up the first round over in Scotland uh at the renissance club Scotty round one is in the books now at the Genesis Scottish open and we have Justin Thomas what in the lead at eight under uh Thomas played outstanding today uh birdie uh bogey free round for him eight under sunj M second with seven under host of guys at six under including Thomas dri who we had for first round leader at 55 to1 he was six under when he made the turn and unfortunately he let go of the Rope on the back nine for us for us would have had a chance at that first round leader I’m very upset this ludvig o never goes away he’s six under now uh as in the mix as well so uh Rory five under he went out very early this morning along with Tommy Fleetwood at 500 so uh we have some names there at the top of the board after the first round at the Renaissance Club yeah I mean uh there’s a bunch of great golfers on that list so we’ll see what happens and then I see your boy uh cudy the leader in Kentucky they’re actually playing golf somewhere else yes uh that’s at Keen trce uh where they’re playing that of course used to be the barbasol uh alternate event now the Isco uh championship and by the way Pearson Cy uh that was a cam Stewart the Prime Minister 80 to one on CY uh this week uh over there at the Jabron tournament so hopefully uh that continues for cam uh this entire weekend and he can get Cy home so uh it’s it’s always one of us Scotty we’ve always got somebody either me or cam or Keith is uh is getting us towards the Finish Line on Sunday that’s a great start for cam with Cy at 11 under yeah I mean who cares who puts it in as long as yeah we hit bats same thing with the ters if I pull one if you pull three four I don’t care whoever’s cash and tickets that’s all that matters that is all that matters uh we have other things to discuss as well USA beating Canada last night in Vegas their first tuneup uh before heading out on the road uh towards Paris they’ll make stops in Abu Dhabi and London on their way uh they did Cover yesterday’s number I know they didn’t cover the opening number uh with the 15 and a half but they did cover everything we saw yesterday 11 and a half 12 and a half Etc uh got off to a slow start Scotty but I believe it or not I actually watched quite a bit of it uh and they did start to pick it up after halftime uh and hammer throw the hammer down on Canada yeah and uh you hit at 12 morenzi hit getting 15 and a half when it opened up so everybody made money off of it and the reality of it is uh I thought they you know defensively won that game uh with their stops and their block shots and I mean I thought Davis played great a double double he was swatting shots you name it LeBron was swatting shots Booker was hitting threes Edwards had 13 uh I thought the one thing that uh stood out to me was their ball movement they uh shared the Rock and took good looks they came out ice cold they turned the ball over eight times in the first but at the end of the day uh they looked unbeatable I mean if they have to worry about offense uh then they have nothing to worry about because this team will score in droves at some point my guess will be uh around July 28th when they play Serbia they’ll be ready to score uh these games right now are just warm-ups we’ll see how they do in um you know Dubai and and then uh London I think that’s where you told me they’re going so none of it matters until Paris but they can beat anyone and they will beat everyone the listen all those guys could score uh the scoring will be there the thing that has undone them in the past in these things like last year in the world championships is Def defense and rebounding so they showed that they’re going to be able to do those things they added some size uh and that’s what’s going to help them out we’ve got other things to do as well did you see the brawl at the end of the Colombia win last night that was uh unnecessary and scary uh for players kind of reminded me of the Artest from back in the day right Scotty we’ll talk about it later those guys running into the crowd and fighting the uh fans in the it started on the field they started fighting after the game the the players from both sides I think the uruguayans thought they were in the crowd protecting their family and friends there was so many Colombians they overwhelmed them and so they had to you know fight them [Music] anyone that’s been to a sporting event the atmosphere before a game I think game time decisions has that same exact atmosphere this is our Arena this is what we do there is going to be an energy to game time decision that you will feel night in and night out the excitement you get when you when you lock your bets and when you’re figuring out what you want to do we can Zone in on the biggest games each night I want this to be the place that people come to before the game start so they feel as ready as possible to lock in their cards we are going to hit every single one of those they don’t want him on the team and I’m not talking about the players but USA basketball and I don’t think they like his his outspokenness and I don’t think they like his political views he’s very and it’s funny because the media the media ignore him but he does have a lot to say and he’s very active for real like he actually marches with people like you know what I mean he doesn’t just talk like he’ll show up to the March and he’ll be on the street and he’s not here as Jaylen Brown he’s just a dude right so so I think it rubs USA the wrong way I’ll just cut to the change I think they’re worried they’re going to show up to Paris and he’s going to start talking about Palestine and genocides and he’s going to start talking about the world issues and stuff and I I think it freaks them out and I I actually do think there’s some sort of animosity between him and USA Basketball because as you stated I mean this is just here’s the other one Scott let me ask you is Kyrie Irving good enough to be on this team probably like should halberton be on the team before Kyrie Irving why is Kyrie Irving not on USA the guys been one of the best players League they had they wanted no part of right the guy that used to be in Germany good coach not working he’ll do it he’s around you know what I mean but he’s looking for a job but when you’re talking to these Top Flight type guys they’re putting their name on this and it’s going to be on their resume after oh yeah I got bounced in the first round of the World Cup when I was coaching us it’s more of a circus Scott with the pressure in America and something that you and Mike talked about last week which I think could be a little bit Fair as well that maybe the US soccer program is overestimated itself a little bit in a sense that they’re not going to beat these teams and you know there can be all these excuses about well it’s the training it’s the manager it’s co it’s no it just is we’re never going to be as good as Spain in soccer just like they’re never going to be as good in football right Spain will never be as good as Canada in hockey they they can’t catch up we can’t catch up to them in soccer Scott that’s the way it works bro that’s right it’s like saying let’s start running faster than the Nigerians you know what I mean it’s like well good luck with that because that’s what they we never we never disputed your theory about the popularity of soccer in the states soaring with the MLS what we were saying was carber high eyes that it’s compared to uh the premier pre you know the Champions League La Liga uh Syria butis it’s all it’s all below that our ours is that the product is is n that great it’s not that people don’t like it it’s that it’s not that great and the US getting whacked in the Copa is another example of we are still uh decades behind them and they are watching these teams are these Co teams and these Euro teams are so unbelievable and they’re so much better than the US it’s not even funny well the difference is the they the they’re training programs you know from the time they’re four you know and six and eight Etc but soccer football whatever it’s a lot like uh you know our football and it said Scott like what leagu what sports the managers and coaches have the most impact on hockey H hockey you’re running the room you’re setting the atmosphere it’s a reactionary sport baseball whatever dude you’re a baseball manager you’re sitting there dude pitching coaches analytics you really don’t do anything okay you really don’t in the modern era I’m just being real if you’re soccer coach Scott you can have an impact on the game it’s like football it’s like play calling like the the tactics and the aggression and the style that you play really is a big difference and if you look at Canada Canada and the US very similar skilled wise You could argue Canada’s I know pulisic and Davies you know world class but Canada might have a couple of few better players uh than the us but look they were a little bit more successful Scott they played aggressive right and instead of like dying a slow death let’s die on our sword you know what I mean if we lose two nothing Argentina we lose two nothing but let’s not just sit back and oh we’re playing Argentina let’s try to score against him and see what happens and boom Canada made it to the semifinals because of Jesse Marsh’s tactics so I think the US soccer team could be pretty good Scott those kids are talented bro poik is a world class player Adams you got these guys that are really good young players bur halter thank God uh so Mike I want to start with the US soccer situation uh I’m under the impression that klopp turned him down already he’s not interested in coaching the US team we were just talking about it and it was from gab’s perspective that he didn’t want that on his resume because even he doesn’t think he could fix that team uh he doesn’t want it to hurt his legacy do you believe that and what are they going to look for now after they’ve made this move who could they possibly get to make them look better in the um in the World Cup than they’ve looked in the Copa the Copa was really kind of embarrassing well I think uh I klopp made it clear that he needed a break uh that he’d spent a lot of years at a high club and he needed he needed time off to to just be a person and I and I get that and I think what the US thought was they have nothing to lose by taking that shot and that they could perhaps convince him that the grind of being a a manager at an elite Champions League Level Club is much different than being the head coach of a Men’s National Team now every four years or every two years you’re going to have an INT amount of scrutiny but that’s really it uh it’s not like you have to be on the job 247 365 days a year maybe you get a week off a vacation or whatever if you’re managing Manchester City or Manchester United or in his case Liverpool but it’s really a grind and and But ultimately I think that’s what dissuaded him is he just had enough and and I I imagine he may come back at some point to manage and maybe the US missed their window but this was the only window that they would have had a shot they needed to take this chance uh on on klopp not they didn’t move burh halter because they were trying to get clopped they were trying to get clopped because they had moved B bur halter and had every intention of that after the failure of the Copa America tournament well the the guy that runs USA soccer is the guy that that brought him back and now he’s left with the keys to the car of having to choose again and I mean what’s your opinion of what he did the first time it was failure wasn’t it and now he’s in Char again it was it was a mistake uh but he also hired the best Women’s Club coach in the world in Emma Hayes uh to coach the Women’s National Team so people kind of want to forget that because they think that the men are the only program that matters uh certain people I should say uh he he also hired Emma and she’s EXP to do wonderful things with the US I I thought that at the time it was the right choice but in in examining what developed afterward uh you saw how the players took advantage of the situation and maybe it should have been anticipated they would take advantage of the decision the situation because they’re all still kids they acted like kids they’re all basically 25 years old and they were handed an anord amount of power because they were the ones who were basically the the reason that halter was brought back they wanted him they thought the culture of the team worked well with him and they wanted to continue under him and then instead of saying okay we got your back coach they said hey coach we got you your job back so now you’re now we can do whatever and you had Sergo Des getting himself thrown out of a game for a minor over over dis disappointment at a minor call down in Trinidad it didn’t hurt the team ultimately other than making the other 10 players work that much harder for 70 minutes or 60 minutes uh but it it they were able to advance in the Nations League uh but in the Copa America you saw some physical activity on the part of Panama which was absolutely anticipated bur halter told all the players that it’s how Panama would play them and the first chance that Timothy waya got he was found uh with having shoved an opposing player in the back and thrown out of the game and that’s that’s how they repayed Greg burh halter that’s how they rewarded Greg B alter so you couldn’t keep him if the players weren’t going to respect him you need to bring somebody in who doesn’t owe any of those players anything and who says look I’m in charge you’re great at your club or you’re a player at one of the big clubs terrific can’t wait to see in Camp maybe you’ll get a job but no more hey you you play at Juventus okay you’re in the lineup that’s not that’s got to be over wow and I think you’re right now you know farbe it for me to understand who would turn to now they have to have a list of potential coaches because they went for the Gusto it didn’t work now where do they go well there’s some significant accomplished coaches out there in a variety of venues David Vagner uh former US MNT player at eight caps uh has coached in the Premier League and the Bundesliga he’s somebody that they could go after uh he’s been o he’s been over in Europe coaching at a really high level hasn’t always been successful but it’s coached at a really high level Jose peckerman who did great things with Colombia’s national team among others uh he’s somebody that that they could turn to he’s I don’t believe he has a position at the moment Herve Renard who we saw coaching Saudi Arabia at the World Cup who has coached in the women’s national uh Women’s National teams as well uh he’s someone that people have talked about or they could go with somebody who hasn’t coached internationally uh and has mostly coached at a club level like willford nzi uh at Columbus who’s done a phenomenal job with the crew he would be an interesting choice his teams uh are really beautiful to watch they’re very organized they’re the reigning champion of Major League Soccer the downside of hiring nzi at this point is that lack of international soccer experience and they need somebody who has shown that they can win at the World Cup I think that’s that’s that has to be the priority right now is getting someone in who can connect with the players and make sure they know who’s in charge but also who has shown that he or she can win at the World Cup level wow so the best coach in the MLS who might be the hottest commodity has never coached in a world cup or internationally in big he’s thrown 93 pitches so his uh his day is probably almost done but what has it been like for you to see this craziness in the steel city for this kid yeah most of the time when you are around a pirates game or in a pirates game I’ve attended a few uh so far this year I think I’ve seen three at PNC park and most of the jerseys you’ll see are starel or Clemente that’s the way it is it’s not like the current players maybe a few couches here and there but most of the most of the jerseys are Clemente now you’re seeing a lot of of skin jerseys and t-shirts with his name on it uh he’s been he’s become a sensation in a very short period of time an amazing pitcher not just a hard thrower well beyond that hard throwers uh eventually the league will figure them out uh but guys who pitch like he does he has great command he’s he’s been phenomenal and obviously already an Allstar after just 10 starts and he’ll go into the game with 11 starts and maybe given the fact that this start is coming now with a chance to actually be involved in the game I think that the national league uh would be wise to try to get him out there uh because he can get him through an inning without the American League having much of a chance I mean it is just must SE TV every time he pitches I have to watch and you know how much I love the Pirates my son and I have been going crazy uh watching this kid pitch it’s just been surreal for us because we’ve never really it’s you know few and far between when we get to enjoy anything with the Pirates like we have suffered with them I mean the last time they were good now don’t tell me about 2015 it was really 92 uh and even then they didn’t get it done and then uh before that it was 71 and 7 and I went to those as a kid with my dad no less against the Orioles both times let me ask you about Messi and Argentina they’re in the Copa final against the team that’s on fire in Colombia that’s won 28 in a row and they got it done last night against Uruguay one nothing I’ll be it afterwards some ugliness on the pitch with uh players fighting and then it went up into the stands like the malice at the palace with all the uruguayans fighting to protect their family and friends and kids against some uh crazy Colombian fans that were really overwhelming them yeah a terrible scene after the game we still don’t really know what happened uh what precipitated it all uh but it was ugly uh regardless and certainly uh Kabal the South American Federation is going to have to investigate that and figure out what happened and then decide whether or not discipline is necessary for any of the players involved then I wouldn’t be at all surprised if if they were facing something based on uh you go back to the malice at the palace and I don’t know that you’ll see the kind of punishment in this case that we saw then uh where where the suspensions were so protracted but I’d be surprised once you enter that uh you you cross that barrier you’ve put yourself in an untenable position as an athlete just as uh we saw a pitch invasion in the uh in the England game uh believe it was that I watched the other night uh or yesterday afternoon I should say uh there was a pitch invasion in one of the semi-final games that I watched and and they had to uh to track down that person so uh you’re not supposed to be on the other side of that line so we’ll see what happens but the the game itself on on Saturday excuse me on Sunday uh Sunday night Colombia versus Argentina couldn’t have asked for a more compelling final in the Copa America after what’s been a pretty messy tournament we mentioned what happened off the field but on the field it’s been a wreck too not necessarily in terms of the soccer but in terms of the uh officiation and adjudication of the tournament has been an absolute mess uh but now we get the two best teams and I I was in uh I was in Brazil 10 years ago when James Rodriguez exploded uh as a player uh he scored a couple of goals in round of 16 game against Uruguay uh became an absolute sensation during his time there uh and then the last decade or so has as a club player has not gone well but now we’re being reminded of why he was why he was that sensation of the 2014 World Cup he’s now the sensation of the 2024 cop America even more so than Messi who was phenomenal the other night uh when he had to be but hadn’t really put that much into the group stage so now we see those two square off and Argentina best soccer I think is still better than Colombia’s best best but colia may be better at keeping you in this case
