welcome to the most listened to golf in the world the fairways of Life show on air online and around the world with the most candid interviews un forgettable stories taking you beyond the ropes here’s your host New York Times bestselling author bass Adams what’s going on folks welcome in the fairways of Life show pleasure to have your company from wherever you are joining us on this Monday so I was up at NBC for the last few weeks have been hosting the pregame and postgame show and have been working with trip Eisenhower who is an absolute classic and so we figured what the heck let’s just keep the party rolling so he’s going to be joining us in a little while on the show and I want to talk to him about a number of different things yeah I do want to talk to him about that Victory a breakthrough victory such as it was for Taylor pendrith and the way that it went down with Ben Kohl’s having trouble on that final hole the par five 18th at the CJ cup Byron Nelson but what’s it like with a breakthrough how much does it change things uh you’re going to be hearing from Taylor coming up in just a couple of minutes here in the show where he saidou know obviously it’s going to change things for me paraphrasing professionally but it’s not going to change things at home his wife Meg ran out to see him his little boy whose name is Hayes who’s about I guess a year and a half he’s a little less than a year and a half old was on was out there with his dad too and it was really cute he had the little baseball hat on so we’re GNA talk about that uh some today uh when when I have trip on the show there’s really no area that I don’t want to pick his brain uh I I want to talk to him about this week another signature event Scotty sheff is not playing and he’s not playing because he and his wife are waiting for their first child so what does it mean and how much does that open things up and how much do we look at an event the week before a major and use it as our litmus test to see who we think is going to be playing well which kind of leads me to Brooks Kea won this past weekend and he had some incredibly interesting comments to make about what it means you know playing for something to use the phrase that that he put in it and when he was on the PJ tour he kind of had this attitude of I just have trouble getting up for the regular events and it was kind of the same way he alluded to the same thing with with the Live Events so when you hear him say and you’ll see the graphic in in in a little bit here on the show when you hear him say that he was embarrassed by what he did at the Masters his word embarrassed by what I did at the Masters when you hear him say that and how it relates to Commitment this go around and and consider this there are only three players currently that have four or more wins at the PGA Championship Walter Hagen Jack Nicholas and Tiger Woods right Brooks is sitting on the threshold of that if he were to break through and defend think just let that settle into your mind for a second the kind of company that he’s starting to push towards he’s a five-time major Champion so and it’s going to put him in the company of the likes of Phil Michelson and and Nick FDO Etc put him one away from Arnold Palmer I mean all of a sudden you start to hear it in terms of the weight of history and start to go wow this is something Nelly Corda is playing this week won five straight again talking about history that’s right here in front of our nose that’s happening right now this season it’s there’s some incredible things happening and and obviously it always stands in contrast at the moment to what’s going on with the game at its highest tiers in terms of the game trying to sort itself out who’s going to play against whom when and where yet that professional game the same professional game that is being impacted by those fields uh being impacted by you know people grow have grown tired of discussions about money and rights and plane and etc etc and contracts and and all that that’s that’s just the nature of who we are as sports fans right I mean when when did you not become numb to the the salaries being made at the top tier of the NFL or major league BAS baseall or the NBA I could go on right you hear you go yeah yeah they get paid a lot I get it I get it you know that’s the way it goes I I I said this to you guys last week we were on the air Taylor Taylor uh Swift made what 10 million a show right $10 million a show I don’t know how many shows they do in a year but but you’ve got to figure it’s got to be at least minimum 30 when you a tour right probably more but minimum 30 so you do the math it’s like is 300 million out you know what I mean when that when that instinct kicks in and and people do it all the time in sports in particular they do it all the time they go oh that’s too much that’s getting paid too much and that that’s kind of how the the conversation has started to shift in golf to saying well this this isn’t about getting what you deserve this is about greed well if that’s if it’s about greed then obviously greed is infected every sport right or is it about players who are entertainers getting paid because whoever pays them sees that what they pay them will come back to them in an Roi somewhere else and there’s a lot of some somewhere else it can be measured by television Revenue that they generate you know obviously audiences that they generate merchandise sales selling out uh season tickets ET Etc so I’d like to believe that for most of professional sports I’m not convinced of it in professional golf yet with the way things are going but it’s at the building stages right uh but in most of professional sports the amount of money that an athlete makes he’s only getting he or she’s only getting paid that sum of money because whoever is paying them sees a pathway to profits above that or else they wouldn’t be in existence right it wouldn’t it wouldn’t exist uh these franchises now are selling for billions of dollars in top tier Sports quite remarkable uh so you heard me mention Jack Nicholas in the context of of the threshold that Brooks kepka is sitting on and we’re going to talk more about Brooks in a little bit here in the show as well as as Taylor and all that this past weekend look at that shot Gary Player sent that out on his social media platform I think that was on X former Twitter but look at this is from this last weekend Tom Watson Lee I’m going from the right Jack Nicholas anuka that looks like Andy North in the back Nancy Lopez Gary play Dave Stockton is that Bill Rogers in the back Larry Nelson hail Irwin there were 16 alltime Legends I saw Pat Bradley was there Julie iner was there Tony jacqulyn was there I may have I may have named everybody now if not we’re very close but they were at the Insperity this past weekend now they were dodging weather in Houston all week but at one point Saturday if memory serves me trip could correct me on it we did a highlight from in this in this group of Legends they they played a scramble format and we did a highlight and showed shots from Gary Player anuka so great with so many of these Legends you I could use I could use first names you know exactly where I’m talking about anuka Jack Tom Hail oh Tom Kite I saw there too speaking of uh more legends that I saw in the in that mix um so we actually did a highlight of Jack Nicholas hitting a shot it was an approach shot in a par five and he stuck it and from there they made birdie his team they finished seven under which I think tied if I’m not mistaken it’s kind of funny because one and I I I don’t mean this negatively I mean this in the most positive way possible but you don’t care who won right you’re seeing greats of all time I mean in one side we’re talking about the CJ cup Byron Nelson the Byron Nelson and then I’m I’m looking at these Legends going wait a minute while it may not have been against Byron necessarily although Byron still did play in Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf and things like that through the time period when many of those legends that I was just pointing out to you were actually playing but when it comes to Ben Hogan he didn’t play his last Tour event until 1967 right you’re looking at Jack Nicholas in that mix and Jack was playing alongside of Ben Hogan at the 1960 US Open they were very much to mix those two and there’s more I mean you’ve got Gary Player on there and he won his first major in the 1950s and so but I’m pretty sure that they tied seven under against another one of the teams and I can’t remember forgive me which other team shot to 700 because I really wasn’t paying attention to the score I was just sitting back going we just did a highlight package that included showing you a shot which was very well Struck from Jack Nicholas and just like I was just saying to you about the the significance of the history that could come from the PGA Championship and there’s other nuggets of History I can give you too like Jordan’s if he wins he wins a career Grand Slam and again you you’re going to get a s similar mix of names in there to that group when we just looked at and the significance of it is to me with all due respect we cannot go that many more years when we have all of these people together at the same place hitting golf shots it is that special it is that unique and it is absolutely something that we should be very much celebrating right I like that the these non-s Signature Events these additional events that are on the PGA tour are full field events I like that they allow us to see players and I’ll give you a good example Jake knap who we may not have known before or at least we didn’t know very well and now all of a sudden like Taylor pendrith he wins this weekend okay Taylor’s 32 he’s been out there kind of working at it for a while up and then back down to Corn fairy tour and and going back and working on things that he needed to to be ready for what took place yesterday and for most of yesterday he was in control until Ben Kohl’s asserted himself and Ben had the lead heading into that par 58th Ben hit his second shot and and it went I think he overcut it a little bit it looked that way to my eye because there there’s a complex of bunkers that he did not find himself inside of one of the bunkers which probably would have been better for him he was in grass in between and it was a kind of a dangerous little lie one of those lies that you can see a player tempted to try to hit a little more of a cute shot if you don’t I’m saying a cute sh it’s it you know get it in front of the flag and versus blasting at 10 or 15 feet pass and knowing you have a birdie putt but at the time Taylor had an eagle putt his I think 41 feet if memory serves me so Taylor’s chances of making birdie there were extremely good whereas Ben to his credit was looking to win hit a one shot lead if he executed the shot he said later on that he chose the right shot if he executed that shot right he’d been on in three and and he was trying to make a birdie and slam the door so that even if Taylor Made his Eagle putt they’re going into a playoff but it was more likely from 41 feet that he would Nestle it somewhere in in the vicinity to make a birdie and he would still win by one instead he hit it to about five feet and missed the putt Ben and that was it that’s how it ended so first Victory on the PGA tour for Taylor pendrith comes in his 74 start 32 years 11 months and 6 days his previous best finish on tour was a tie for second and 22 at the rocket mortgage classic he birdied that 72 hole as it just described to win by one officially over Ben Kohl’s Kohl’s officially bogied that final hole in the description I just gave you with the win he earned 500 FedEx Cup points he’s fully exempt through the 2026 season so he gets the rest of this season and the next two he also earns a spot in the PGA Championship and the remaining Signature Events this year including this coming week at the Wells Fargo Championship he earns a spot in the centy he earns a spot in the players and of course the Masters in 2025 he becomes the first Canadian to win the event Mike we’s runner-up finish in 2014 was a previous best as a Canadian and he definitely at least furthers the discussion provides it with more fuel about the President’s Cup and and Canadian players making the President’s Cup he is the second Canadian to win this season Nick Taylor won the WM Phoenix Open 11 of the past 16 Champions at the CJ cup Byron Nelson have been International Players including the last five titles which is just interesting right Taylor moves at number 34 in the FedEx Cup stand’s number 58 in the official world golf rankings and this was his tournament debut on top of everything else his 261 aggregate marks the lowest 70 72o total for him on tour and so afterwards when he spoke to the media he just tried to sort all of it out yeah it’s uh it doesn’t feel real yet still um was all a blur the last you know hour um but to hear that sounds amazing and it’s been something that I’ve been working towards my whole career and to finally get it done feels was unbelievable I slept pretty good I was a little disappointed that Toronto Maple Leafs loss last night so that was mostly on my mind but uh yeah I slept good the morning was good with my wife and son um you know everything was pretty normal I felt really calm all week um and all today I felt really calm too until you know the end uh where things got a little interesting um but yeah I’ve held the 54 hole lead before and have hav’t got it done so you know I learned a lot from that and um just tried to be a little better today and um stay in my own uh Lane and just kind of put my head down and go to work and um to come out on top feels unreal yeah it was it was wild um you know I hit a really nice shot in there um you know 35 ft probably for Eagle um and Ben was in a little bit of a tricky spot but uh you know he’s been playing so good all day I expected him to you know have a putt at birdie so I was fully prepared to try and make that putt um and you know I didn’t hit the best putt I was a little disappointed that I left it short um but then when he missed his par Putt and I realized I had a putt for the win it was yeah kind of all of a blur really but uh I’ve never had a putt to win a PJ Tour event so my caddy said this is the straightest putt we’ve had all year and just knock it in and uh it managed to slip in the left Edge so I’m pretty happy yeah you know I had a long time before I hit that eagle putt um by the time I marked the ball to the time I hit the putt was a few minutes for sure and you know I wasn’t really trying to pay attention to what they were doing although it really mattered obviously but um I was just focused on trying to hit a good putt put good speed on it uh if it doesn’t go in go tap it in and then put the pressure back on Ben um and I left myself a little bit more than I wanted to but um it was a pretty simple putt but um yeah it’s uh a feel for Ben he played really good really really good today especially down the stretch bird and 16 17 um and you know I’ve been on the other side of it a couple times and it sucks but it’s it’s golf it’s a hard game and um obviously I’m thrilled to to Birdie the last and get it done but uh feel for him yeah I feel like um you know in the last few months my mental game hasn’t been great um maybe mixed with a little bit of physical side my shoulder hasn’t been great um and I’ve been working with my mental coach Adrien for the last six weeks probably um and just working on acceptance and you know everybody wants that opportunity to have a putt to win a PGA Tour event um I was nervous for sure um and my caddy you know we’ve been working on our communication as well and he said this is the straightest P you’ve had all year just knock it in and um was able to do that but yeah it was uh a mix of emotions for sure you know with everything happening so fast but um I’m very happy that it did go in but uh just tried to stay in my routine uh felt like my routine was really good this week which I’ve been working on um the last few weeks and um so just did the same thing that I that I did over every other putt thank you one other question after uh Ben made the putt on 17 uh did you have to give yourself a little talk walking to the 18th T yeah obviously he made an unbelievable putt there um with that with that much on the line and I hit I thought I hit a really good shot off the te and just spun back a little bit and I was in a tricky spot and uh hit an awesome Chip Shot right where we were talking about and trying to you know give ourselves something inside 10 ft for par and um I wasn’t expecting him to make that I guess but he did and so um I knew that I needed to make that putt to have some sort of chance on the last um and uh hit a nice Putt and it just slipped in at the end so that was uh that was a huge save and um you know ultimately is why I’m sitting here good win by Taylor pendrith in so many different ways one because as I mentioned it is his first on the PGA tour it is a breakthrough but I was so impressed with to use his term his his word he said he was calm all week I was asking trip about on our our postgame show last night or the night before and I was talking about J said just his emotions just seemed to be so well in control but he said it got a little tough you know there at the end when the when the pressure was really ratcheted up and it he he and Ben koh’s were both battling out to see who would win their first PGA Tour title and they weren’t the only ones Alex norn was in the mix there were others too so there was a lot of people looking to bust through that door Taylor pendrith did and when you look at him from the standpoint of you know how how he’s built physically but to me that mindset that he has now it just seems to me like there’s there’s much more in the offing from Taylor pendrith I just all things considered do you do you agree with something like that so as I mention you Trip’s coming up in just a couple minutes and and Dom’s in my headset and he goes hey trip just said as a video I’m like oh okay and I said’ what is it he goes I don’t know he Dom says I don’t know let’s just play it okay so here’s the video this what we do you come on the show and you send me random videos we play it blindly before we have you on here here’s a video that was sent to us by trip we’ll find out what it’s all about some fantastic shots down the stretch on those last couple of holes how were you able with all that was on the line how were you able to lock in on those moments and pull off those shots um obviously you know my mind kept wanting to go to 18 it was such a long day I felt like we were out there well I was I’ve been up since 4:00 a.m. so it has been a long day um but as I like I have to give props to Jason because he’s the one that kept me in it he’s the one that kept telling me a shot at a time shot at a time don’t get ahead of yourself um stick to what’s in front of you and work on that you’re right that it’s very difficult to play golf and not think about what you’re shooting okay because anybody can do that the players who get really good learn to get lost in the present moment and take it one shot at a time I am and how did you push those doubts out that you were referring to earlier um by having a great team around me um full of positivity and working hard I mean hard work will always get you somewhere so um I kept my head down and I worked really really hard and all I know all my people if if they want to become as good as they can be they have to accept that everyone has has to get past doubt everyone has to get past fear everyone has to make some type of commitment to really getting good with the short game and a lot of the short game is practice and a lot of it is having the right attitude with it you have to embrace it and love it and enjoy it and look forward to both practicing and doing it when you get on the GOL all right we even had the little golf ball falling in the hole at the end of that and actually it was pretty darn good more the fairways of Life show coming up in just a moment it is presented by he’s won six times amongst the professional ranks 360 make that 306 I beg your pardon starts on uh the professional tours he has his own gig that he’s got going on now new Gap golf personalized golf development program that we had a chance to talk to him about last time and I’ll make sure that we talk to him about it I particularly interested in how it’s going with him uh after we featured it on this show and are people reacting and is he happy about all that but where I want to start with trip what’s going on we’ve been we’ve been together for two weeks folks we’ve been doing shows nonstop so so our hell how you doing can be short so yeah trip here’s my question the Aon swing five and the Aon next 10 right Andrew could you pull those pull those Graphics up so we can see the the players accordingly okay you’ll see it slide in here in just a second next 10 Pavone Lowry joerger baa nap ecro how come in the and and Andrew you can slip between next 10 and the swing five as much you want how come there’s players on these lists repr these lists are additional entryways into Signature Events right for the guys that are grinding out but why would you have players on the list that are exempt if those players they’re already Exempted maybe because they’ve won taking up the spot of someone that would otherwise shouldn’t it be the next 10 are players here’s the next 10 from players not not otherwise already exempt what’s going on here well Matt that would extend the fields beyond their precious little 70 number um or 75 number or whatever I look I’m all for Signature Events and and I I think they’re a mixed bag so far there have been uh some successes there have been some uh silly things that have happened like playing short um I mean at Bay Hill they played one short they couldn’t fill the field uh um to your point I I I’m all for elevated s Signature Events and having these things you know mean a little bit more and the money is a lot more and we know why this has occurred I feel like they threw a lot of things up and now they’re going to have to fix it which is typically one of the things that the tour kind of does they kind of get reactive I think um they’re going to be more proactive with uh some of the people involved um at the top of it but to your point I don’t if you’ve already won you should get your way in and then those players should come in but then that’s going to expand the field beyond what they’re talking about and that’s why I think if the field was 120 in each of these events and we had cuts which is that to me is so antithetical to everything that golf is about you you need to have play 36 holes and the best players get to play 36 more holes I I I I’ve always um you know disliked the world golf events that were no cut events where you show up and just guaranteed to get a big paycheck I think part of the meritocracy of golf is that you’ve got to beat half the field uh to continue playing so uh is it something that they’ll look at I have no idea I hope they do I hope they do because if you know they expand the fields in these things the other thing I wish they would do and take a look at for their sponsors is rotating these Signature Events around the schedule so that or at least give the opportunity for other events in the schedule if they want to raise the purse and offer you know all the extra benefits of a signature event you could move the schedule around and at least uh reward your longtime loyal sponsors that have been there say a John Deere for example you might have to move the tournament from its date but at least give John Deere the opportunity John Deere may not take it for example but I think it would be wise to to at least offer that so that’s my opinion on the signature events but you bring up a good point the the Billy horel who won uh in the Dominican Republic he’s in this week at Wells Fargo great for him but he should be in anyway from winning same thing with Taylor pendrith and then you can get other guys that have played well and haven’t won the opportunity in these uh bigger events so I I I think there’s some changes that need to be made and again it’s just my opinion but I I do know that one one opinion shared by every Tour player I’ve talked about is that they shouldn’t have played Short any of these events when they start with the with somebody withdraws from these they should have an alternate list to put put someone in the field yeah I mean it’s and I realize that you and I are golf junkies with all this stuff but the nons signature events for me have been incredibly entertaining yeah the fact that Taylor pendrith broke through yesterday and he was battling with Ben Kohl’s uh the fact that you know like I said Alex norn was in the mix Aaron Ry was in the mix a lot of players who this would have been a lifechanging breakthrough Victory and we get to see that and we get to know them and we get to hear their stories that’s part of what I’d like to see golf do more of I I’d like to see the the the chances for us as fans to know who these players are in in some ways you’re almost force-fed the Stars which is good there’re stars for reason and you are interested in him I’m not taking that away from but there’s so many more players like even though he’s a winner already like Jake na I think is he’s got the story he’s got the personality you know he’s he’s he’s got a tattoo on the inside of his left bicep that are the initials of his grandfather because he had that close relation with his grandfather in Tron game and we start to hear all that kind of stuff and he was the guy that was a bouncer for a while I think he said he worked security at this at this place but all those stories can be can I don’t know can build fan interest and it’s one of the reasons why I’m liking these events so much I’m having fun with them yeah absolutely and and you know you think of about the David versus versus Goliath stories I mean the the the fans love to see uh somebody that that doesn’t really seem to have any chance going up against you know a Tiger Woods a rich Bean going up against the Tiger Woods a y Yang going up against the tiger those are the great stories and we still talk about them I mean we’re we could talk about rich beam and that was what 23 years ago so I mean these are the things that the stories that are great and yes the stars are always there there and they’re going to be there anyway because they’re better than everybody else that’s why they’re stars and that’s why I don’t think you need to guarantee that they’re going to play four rounds because they’re pretty much going to play four rounds anyway and they’re pretty much going to be on the leaderboard because they are the best in the world and that’s the the wonderful thing about it but you also give the opportunities and I I’ll give you another story last year and then think about what that player has done uh from then was you know not many people had heard of Nick Taylor now he had won on tour when he was playing Scotty Sheffer coming down the stretch in Phoenix and everybody was you know thinking oh Scotty’s going to go on and win this now Nick stood toe-to-toe with Scotty and Scotty did end up winning but then think about what that did for Nick Taylor later on and what he’s gone on to do after that so it it not only if even if they don’t succeed in beating uh the the you know the top of the game they benefit hugely from it and then they’re able to apply it elsewhere and of course last year you know that win in Canada for Nick Taylor and you know he’s now a star on the PGA tour and he’s going to be a star at the international cup he’s going to be a tough out up there in Canada oh no doubt and and so much is happening in the game of Go you know there’s a lot of people talk about ratings and fan engagement Etc even though the top tier professional game is trying to find its pathway into the future what is happening right now with Scotty Sheffer with Nelly Corda with the prospec of discussion about Brooks which I want to have with you in just a moment here trip we are right now being treated to an incredibly special time in the game of golf even at its top competitive tier and I think that’s sometimes that message is getting lost in the swirling Winds of what about this what about that when you talk about the leagues and all the rest so I want to talk to you about some of those storylines when we come back I do want to pick up on that video you sent us trip before bring us back to the two box here Andrew because I want to ask trip one question did you edit that yourself it had it had a little bit of a kind of a like a hostage look to it yeah I edited it myself yes I’m I’m an amateur on iMovie that’s put it that way amateur producer I’m glad that you said that to us and said go ahead and play it well we did we did Nelly cter Dr Bob someone that look like trip Eisenhower’s son anyway we’re going to get into the question of the day today today’s question of the day is sort of coming off Brooks kka winning on the live tour Andrew put the leaderboards up if you can just so we can get get some air time on that stuff just so people can see exactly how it unfold is who should be the favorite at the PGA Championship now Brooks Kea right obvious option Scotty Sheffer obvious option Roy maroy or someone else or as trip put it in the in the break the field right now 48% of you are saying Scotty Sheffer and 41% of you it’s been moving around just even as we’re talking are saying Brooks Kea Now 49 and 40 now so 49% Scotty it’s changing as I’m talking I am surprised that Brooks kepa has such a high percentage are you no no he should but wait a minute give me Rory and other too before we Ro Rory is coming in at a solid 2% right now 2% got it or someone else as it’s listed on my options is at 9% 9% okay that makes sense yeah no I’m I’m not surprised that that Brooks Brooks is in there at all hey does that is that your new headset you got today finally Dom that you’ve been complaining to us about for month I mean I couldn’t find anything that gave me hair but this all have to do it’s got a little bit of a Princess Leia look to it on on that one side I’m glad I can amuse you just another Monday it’s okay sorry he’s so easily offended it’s just unbelievable I I I am not easily offended I’m it’s difficult to offend me look at he’s city they’re offended telling me I’m not easily offended all right so trip the video that you set in with Nelly and then it cut to Dr Bob and and to you guys yeah what was that why did you send that why first of all I have to tell you I love n I’m a huge fan of Nelly cter the fact that that she could make even more history this week on top of all this other history we’re talking about but what I really like is when she gets into her press conference and she’s tired she starts see that’s 30 that’s that’s 20 years ago that’s 20 years agoing all right you’re doing all right I’m doing yeah I’m aging I I’m like D I need something that gives me hair too so I’m trying you’ll have to try to get one of his headsets and so when Nelly starts to get tired what I love is that she goes it her voice starts to get a little bit valer she’s a little bit like oh my God it was so it was so long a day I was so tired out there yeah I knew that I had to make this spt but she’s awesome and what she’s doing she’s playing this week and she has a chance to go even deeper into the history books but the piece that you sent to us where Dr Bob was talking about you know you have to get passed out have to get pass fear you have to work on the short game I mean this stuff is kind of the trip Eisenhower Bible oh without question I mean look I’ve known Doc and worked with him for 16 years since I was 16 years old and and he’s fantastic and this was a series we did back in uh early 2000 well it was 20072 2008 that you know some of that material I have and I’m I’m applying it to you know modern players um and it’s Timeless you know it’s it’s funny I I I talked to Dr Rotella two or about three or four weeks ago and I I said you’ve been saying the same thing for so long do you ever get tired of it and he’s like well it it it’s Timeless because it it’s the game tends to sell long game and can tends to sell you know and everybody thinks they can get better by buying a new driver or getting a a lesson and and lessons do help there’s no question about it uh go to a PGA Pro and and get them to work on your golf swing that will improve your game but the vast Improvement for most people can be applying these mental principles that the best players in the world do and then for like some of the Juniors or college players or or or professionals just trying to to get going in the game they need to work on these things even more because it’s what separates the the Great from the the rest and what Nelly is talking about there I can play one from Scotty from the Masters that is basically him saying the same thing they they figure out a way to stay in a bubble stay in the present but if you think that these Elite Champions aren’t scared and Afraid and deal with all sorts of things trying to distract them even when they’re going about their winning streaks uh you’re you’re being foolish because they have to deal with the same things they just deal with them quicker and they deal with them better than most of the other people so that’s I I show those things and I you know I it’s little minute minute and a half clips that I that I’ve got but I’ve got you know tons of those things just to illustrate that uh if you really want to get good in this game uh you gota you got to work on the short game and you gotta apply some of the mental principles to allow you to compete with some confidence and put yourself in in in that what we call the precious present the ability to stay right there in the moment and look I think Nelly Corda is going to be right there again this week and touch history I I she’s already done it in so many wonderful different ways she’s one ugly she’s one pretty she’s she’s absolutely on a tear but the reason why she’s on a tear is because of her mental state and even what she said even trying to win there at Chevron it was Jason her caddy who had to pull her back and say quit thinking ahead or quit doing this let’s stay right here and get into our process on this this next shot and she was able to do that and of course win another major championship gapgolf coach.com is Trip’s website gapgolf coach.com if you want to take advantage of his expertise as well now talking about this mental mindset and the power that comes with that we’ve seen it in players like uh you know Jack Nicholas Tiger Woods over the years and we’ve seen it from Brooks Kea uh his an almost armored bravado that he carries with him uh first of all let’s listen to this from Brooks after his most recent win he’s talking about getting ready for the PGA Championship I want to get your reaction to it and were you aware during the round itself kind of how some of the guys were kind of nipping at your heels I don’t know how much you were looking at the at the leader board but you always seem to to come up with the clutch uh parve or whatever just to maintain the lead they never actually caught you yeah I watch it all the time I to me it doesn’t make any difference I’m still doing what I got to do or focusing on what I need to focus on um like if somebody goes out and and beats me and I have no problem with losing if I get flat out beat that doesn’t bug me but um like I said just kind of using it for for last second prep for for the PGA do you feel that you play better under pressure I mean I like to think so but I don’t know with I mean I think when there’s more on the line it’s more more enjoyable and it actually feels like real golf so you know nobody wants to be out competing on a Sunday when you’re battling for 45th um it’s just kind of uh go at everything and hope you should a low round but uh being in contention kind of gets gets to be a little bit more fun and I think what what guys are used to all right so if he were to defend amazing right if he’s to defend next week he’ll join the company with four or more PGA champions of Walter Hagen Jack Nicholas and Tiger Woods I mean just let that simmer for a second with what we’re talking about he said that he was embarrassed by the Masters that he was embarrassed he has now he has to grind it out so we’re looking at a defending there’s his his quotes from the sa I think the embarrassment of Augusta really kicked things into overdrive for me and really having to put my nose down and grind it a little bit harder and having to look at my team in the eye and apologize I’m not looking to do that again it’s all external sometimes I can make it external but it’s all internal to me oh it’s all internal I should say look I don’t enjoy playing bad it’s not fun for me quote close open and close from from Brooks so let’s talk about this for a second here trip and and talking about that mental fortitude that Brooks Kea seems to have in what he’s doing which again in this context of all these things we’re talking about that are absolutely historic that are swirling all around us at professional golf he’s in a position of doing something that is incredibly unique and quite simply only him well look I’ve gotten to see Brooks kept K play up close in major championships and and the first time I saw it I was like oh my gosh it’s so easy to see why this guy plays well in the toughest championships he plays incredibly conservative correct golf he he is very patient he understands that these uh it’s not about attacking and making birdies like a normal PGA Tour event it’s about being in position with a your t- shots and then where you position your shots into into greens I I remember even uh one shot I thought he was going to go at he had I thought a perfect number and a hole that he would go after and he still hit it to the correct side about 15 feet away he ended up making the putt but he could have hit that shot a lot closer taking on trouble so that mindsets there but but just listening to him talk right there I’m going to have to do one of these videos with that because uh that’s incredible stuff I mean that that says everything to me about you know he gets excited when he’s in competition yeah he’s nervous I mean Jack Nicholas talked about it he said I loved being nervous on the first te because that meant it meant something and but they know how to handle it and that gets them going they having that competition and um one other thing he said I saw it on um on X recently was um he was talking about how when he plays casual golf he stinks he can’t play at all because it doesn’t mean anything so so that tells you right there where where his competitive fire is and of course I think Brooks Kea is going to be part of the story at the PGA I mean he just he’s got the prototypical game now he’s in form and look when you have your first child you do get some distractions and even Brooks Kea kind of admits that but now I think winning as a father for the first time and now having the chance at Valhalla look he’s going to be a factor there he’s going to be a factor at Piner for sure just because of the style of his game and the way he goes about these major championships yeah I just think that aside from the style the body of work that he’s putting together the way that his mind works that he doesn’t have a problem telling us he he’s he’s the type guy that he’s in a press conference he’ll tell you exactly what’s on his mind I mean I don’t think that Brooks keco would be the type person you’d want to have around if you ask the question does a sweater make me look fat because he just gives you to you straight it’s unbelievable we’re GNA take a break here when we come back uh trip hang around because coming up this week we have a signature event it’s right outside the window that was behind trip you see that big window that behind them well right outside there is where they’re going to be playing so what can we do how much of the litmus test is it the week before a major we tend to put so much weight on it that anything that’s come before it doesn’t really matter the only thing that matters is right here right now is that the case we’ll talk about it after this I got ball fit in 2000 went on a little [Music] [Applause] run then bridgstone fit me again and I went on another one [Music] [Applause] I just got fit again for the new tour BX the ball fitting has been helping me will it help [Music] you Bo golf provides the have muscles and you know be strong and be healthy and a lot of the reason why they struggle to play golf is their body doesn’t move properly for them to be able to hit a golf ball and when you’re training for golf it’s a little bit different because you’re focused more on flexibility and mobility and being uh strong in motion when you’re able to kind of have a warm-up and have a workout routine and kind of gradually build up to where you’re training your body to move properly yeah you’re going to get a lot of big dividends on the golf course every January PGA TOUR Superstore Pros trying to figure out why those numbers surprise you at all they they’re not surprising me trip Eisenhower is our guest uh check out his site gapgolf coach.com so trip I was saying when we had the wide shot of you the picture window behind you if I’m not mistaken is looking down on Quail Hollow correct and how much is it fair just a couple of minutes we have left here how much is it fair for us to use this week and go whatever happens this week form matters that much heading into a m of course it does finding form before a major is always key and I mean you’ve got a major golf course uh I mean this golf course is absolutely in pristine condition it it it looks like austa I know nothing compares to Augusta but this this is a close comparison for sure I I mean this week’s going to be a tough test it’s a great field um Rory could be finding some form if that happens we could have a fantastic PGA because Scotty in form Brooks in form and then throw in Rory and uh yeah those would be the three headlines and oh by the way maybe a resurgent John Ram who knows he can show up anytime and play well yeah Valhalla is not exactly similar to Quail Hollow but it will be interesting I I I haven’t even looked I don’t know if you have I haven’t looked at the long-term weather forecast for that week uh to see how it goes but I do think back to when Rory won there and he was aggressive and the way he came through 18 the way that you could see the lightning bolts off in the distance to your point if that Rory Mary has been found again and what are we going on body of evidence because his season by his standards been kind of eh but he did win in Zurich and you look at him go wait a minut that’s a team competition Rory B and this is by Shane Shane said he carried me so we’re we’re almost out of time here DP thank you very much for joining us pleasure really had fun this whole last couple of weeks working with you too looking forward to it down the road folks thank you so much for your company as well as ever we’re going to be with you throughout the course of the week big big guests coming up in tomorrow show too bye for now [Music]

  1. Glad to see positive spin on LIV golf. The uninformed negative comments border on the ridiculous regarding LIV, written by those who can't play golf very well, but have no trouble taking biased articles and conversation hook , line, and sinker as pure fact. The argument that it's SO HARD to win on the PGA Tour has gotten blown out of the water with so many first time winners, and now the PGA " compensating " certain faithful players with money that has certain things attached to taking it that are not being fully revealed to the public, but which resemble a certain beholding to the tour that profits the tour WAY more than the golfers in the bigger picture. The tours can coexist without a hitch, unless one of those tours lacks confidence in their product.

  2. Till the pga gets rid of the biggest hypocrite in management JAY their tv 📺 numbers are going to go down. I looked at leaderboard for Bryon and didn’t recognize any of the top ten. Bad management not listening to players created LIV

  3. Love LIV. I have been a PGA Tour fan for over 40 years but honestly post Tiger era and the LIV start up was a perfect storm for me at least. I gave LIV a chance from the beginning and now it's just better and must see. I attended Greenbrier last summer and it was great. I enjoyed all the many PGA Tour events I attended also but the players I enjoyed watching were there. Now most are gone to LIV. When it comes to LIV or the PGA Tour the money they make never crosses my mind. Just entertain me…

  4. Brooks peaks at majors and if they were to let Taylor Gooch in my money would be on him. Without phony rankings controlled by pga Gooch would have been top player for the last 18 months 😉⛳️😇😊

  5. If you ask Brooks a sensible question he will give you straight answer. He does not suffer fools and expects questions directed to him to be pertinent
