good morning well absolutely zero surprises whatsoever you know if you want to be in the no just tune in where we will tell you things like a deal will be done before we get back on the air we the deal will be done uh when we are not on after 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday is what we said and and hey it was took a while though wasn’t right away it wasn’t right away which which was better yeah you know I I I wish it had almost at least if it had been done semi right away then you know our our our colleagues would have gotten it yeah it would have been tough if it was Wednesday 10 30 that’s the thing and that’s what I was kind of expecting was just just we know you guys have been talking about this since last week but but and here we are here we are it was a uh weekend Jordan mofon is a new Sacramento king that’s the big news and we will break that down six foot guard a little defense another defensive guard oh my gosh what are you doing Monty what are you doing Monty I got into it with one of our uh one of our Kings Herald not get into it but you know we were debating uh because he was saying hey you know we still have some room left maybe take pass mat cyel who I love but I I I feel like we’re there on the you know the back court the back court they were there even though we drafted a guy with a you know broken shoulder or whatever that is I don’t know what it is hey let’s draft the guy with the bum shoulder did you do your medical no oh he’ll never play he’ll play exactly and and I know the answer look here here’s here’s the answer we’re not going to get it the question would be uh hey would you have drafted this guy knowing that he’s likely and by the way if you’re not familiar with what we’re talking about uh Devin Carter is gonna have shoulder surgery he we don’t know yet but according to internet doctors and when I say internet doctors I mean actual like internet doctors that sportsy doctors that say oh that’s the injury well here’s G you know it it’s been throwing out six to eight months on the high uh beginning of the Season uh and so the the question that we you know and I’m not saying they wouldn’t give us a straight answer because the that that might actually be the straight answer but you know would you have still drafted him knowing that this was going to be the thing now they’ve said they don’t you know it’s there’s no worry about it being a long-term thing a career thing or whatever so look if that’s your guy if that’s your guy and it means that he’s gonna miss you know I don’t know 10 games 15 games to start the I’m just throwing numbers out there well that shouldn’t take you off of drafting him it’s just disappointing and again we talked about it last week got a hold to it hey if the guy is getting uh shoulder surgery is going to miss the beginning of the year which is the Assumption here I’d love to know I just again I’d love to why there was no medical what did they refuse medical was it asked was it just not asked I mean I again these are not things we’re going to spend a ton of time on these are things that I think are relatively important when uh looking at how you know and trying to grade uh how the front office is doing but um that being said dear de Rosen is a Sacramento King yes very exciting to me yeah very exciting and why are you excited not that you shouldn’t be I’m just I’m asking um just in general I mean it’s a player I mean look I know we’ve got multiple hours on this today talking about the fit the signing what it costs all that kind of stuff um for the better part of two plus years I think he’s been the guy that I think would be a fantastic player for this team and I know the season where they were the three seed and that the deadline um I think that was a player that I God the perfect fit for for this team I think it would be a guy like dear D rozan and here he is a little bit later and I know some people have discussed fit in a negative way and that’s fine uh some in a positive way who’s it gonna cost who’s it gonna hurt who’s gonna help these are all things to be determined right and so I think this is um very exciting and then the overall thought Dave I would say is you could say this is the as far as impact one of the greatest players they’ve ever acquired ever yep I would say I I I I think from the surface it’s top three free agent signing if you count monk that that’s been the general consensus it’s Vlad um it’s Vlade and it’s a Hall of Famer they acquired a Hall of Famer they did now it’s at they yeah they also acquired a Hall of Famer a couple years ago in Vince Carter but I think Demar is a different at a different level he’s he’s the amount of people I was looking at this yesterday um assuming he has a standard season for D rozan yes the amount of people this year that Gman and Mark and Kyle will be saying Demar D roza with that bucket has just passed Jerry West has just passed Larry you know he’s already passed Larry I mean I was looking at it going man he is gonna pass some massive scoring Legends this year he’s a scorer there’s no doubt about that uh he’s a scorer and and he is a guy that will he is he is not a uh a point guard yet he’s a guy that will pass the ball absolutely um I think it’s fair to say a uh not a gifted passer per se but a guy who can find the open well when he was in San Antonio he was I remember actually doing a couple Kings Spurs games and going man when didar de rozan turn into I think there was a game in the bubble that I did that I think I want to say he had like 12 or 13 assists he was just a gifted playmaker that game and he’s you know it just depends on what role he’s in seven assists at 31 years old in this final year with San Antonio he spent three years in Chicago coming off a year Jason where he played 79 games uh average exactly 24 points just under excuse me just over four rebounds uh five 5.3 assists 4.3 rebounds on 48% shooting uh not a not really a three-pointer guy right uh he is the king of the mid-range and uh there’s a lot a lot a lot to get into is he a free throw Merchant uh is he a free throw Merchant or does he just get there uh he is very good at getting to the bucket I would kill for a free throw Merchant of the Kings the last couple Seasons 85% last year uh from the line 87 the two years prior 88 total he’s actually his first year in the NBA shot 76% from the line he’s gotten that career average up to 84 but really uh since his final year in San Antonio he’s been right around 85 87 88 so this is going to be a guy along with Malik monk the best free throw shooters on the team um we will talk about spacing yeah uh we will talk look we’re going to talk about the good which I I I I think it’s predominantly good um and then we’re going to talk about the challenges right which there will be some challenges there will be there are some questions um and and and also the idea of you know are the Kings done done I think safe to say Ingram LaVine you know those probably aren’t happening Markin in uh you know could kosma still happen I guess I I I always kind of got the feeling that that was there as I don’t want to say a backup um but as look if nothing you know like for example had they not signed a Rosen I feel like one of those other guys would be here now yeah uh but then it’s okay if they were to grab a Kyle kosma um I don’t know right act I’m not as high on the kozma deal as I was pre D rozan because it’s gonna be a little repetitive but I think the biggest need now is okay you’re you’re you’re one two and three are are you’re pretty good there yeah and that’s also right now they still have Kevin H correct uh you’re four and five there we got we have to we got to figure that out yeah you know whether that’s depth or potentially a starter potentially I don’t know how the the the thing is is and I I mean we’re going to talk a lot about that today that’s probably going to be the main through line of the program I would imagine because you got okay you got let’s just call it your two locks lock lock lock the lock locks Foxon so throw that aside they ain’t going anywhere I’m pretty sure Keegan’s a lock I I gota I have a hard time believing Keegan’s Gonna Come Off the Bench I I would single digit percentage points off of fox and sabonis as far as a lock you know I don’t know but I would imagine he you can throw that aside too and the thing about Keegan we’ve always talked about he can play three or four so then it comes down to okay well so Monk and D rozan herder and d rozan d rozan and herder some have said Ellis and D if defensively right so you’ve got a number I again I can’t imagine D rozan coming off the bench I I would be shocked but although I did spend a little bit of time on it though I mean I guess anything’s possible it’s not gonna happen but just in running through rotations in my head I was like well what what what if they did start Monk and D rozan now all of a sudden became your super six and came off and replaced Monk’s productivity now that he came back and you know we we’ll get to Mal Monk’s comments a little bit later you know he obvious he wants to start right he wants to start and I don’t know if Malik monk starting is the best thing for the team and that’s the decision you have to make but as a Kings fan I’m also inclined to want him to start because let’s not forget this whole thing kicked off with Malik monk coming back on an incredibly friendly four-year deal so that’s a question but can you go Fox monk D rozan okay put D rozan at the three Keegan at the four damont at the five you’re asking a lot out of Keegan Murray and damont sabonis defensively yes a lot out of them and that you know let’s just assume Keegan’s going to continue to improve there’s no reason not to but you’re still asking a lot out of him to guard bigs every single night correct and then you have sabonis who had his best defensive year ever last year yeah but my God that’s a lot to put on that dude and God forbid something happened with the Monta sabonis now look no matter what and who you have on your team you lose sabonis there’s going to be an issue but my God you lose sabonis on this team for any sort of time and you might as well you know pull the plug on the drain I don’t know how they recover from that right now so it would be nice to see them augment that front line a little bit yeah and that’s why the question you know it doesn’t feel like they’re done as far as just roster construction but I mean that part still has to be addressed to me yeah just go get uh Bobby poris or just do it Brook Lopez or that be interesting still I think now yeah I mean again there’s questions with that like with every move there right I don’t think you know when you see the positives people write about it or the negatives about it I don’t think there was a player that if they did this would go there it is they did it they figured it I mean okay even if it was Giannis you go all right totally get it Ross ERS balanced perfect yes maybe that’s the closest one I don’t know but there were going to be questions no matter what they did yes there were there was no Marin if someone loved marinin the most or Ingram or kusma or LaVine or another player in the league Bridges was very popular uh male Bridges would have helped tremendously yes then there would have been some questions there too right it just depends on what they would have had to give up all that stuff we’ll uh we’ll break here uh Dennis Dennis uh making a comment Dave off has been Simmons kick finally I am here’s why uh for a number of reasons by the way you know and again that’s like 80% trolling but also just for fun I did actually get in the trade machine over the week yeah you can’t that’s that’s dead we we literally could not afford Ben Simmons unless we gave up Murray fox or sabonis and I don’t like him that much so we can put we can have a funeral for that put that to bed finally Jason so free agency next season 100% or year away that’s the big move in the there’s like why would we why absorb the contract we’ll just wait see how he does this year and then go out oh my God Ben Simmons’s free agency next summer is going to be weird that’s going to be so weird isn’t it well obviously depending on what he does this year yeah very weird so where are the Kings right now where do they go what are they what’s their ceiling what’s their floor Demar D rozan who is he as a human who is he as a basketball player what does he do what doesn’t he do uh and Monty’s off seon as one the kings were the one team with real interest beyond their mid-level exception uh in Demar D rozan so they were pretty persistent the last week of trying to get Chicago engaged in this sign in trade that listen when you trade for Demar d rozan espe especially as he’s about to turn 35 you are trading for offense he can still score the ball you have certainly seen his defensive tier rate as he’s gotten older but this is still a 24 25 point a game score the Kings look at the West they see other teams improving and they mooved Harrison Barnes out who played significant role in getting this team back into the postseason but they still believe the rozan has you know some good basketball left in him and now he’ll take center stage with you know dearon Fox sabonis and and this is a team in Sacramento that wants to get out of the playin and back into the playoffs on the text line why does everybody forget that we got Chris Weber I don’t think anybody’s forgetting that and I do think there’s a difference we’ll get into this later between resigning a free agent that’s played for you I do think there’s a difference between that and so like Vlad and dmard Rosen are different to me than Malik Monk and Chris Weber they are yes they could have left but but they also knew here knew the culture knew the fans had the home they were already they already had Roots there yeah had you know nine10 of the law possession whatever that is I think it’s a completely different thing when somebody who has who has not lived here had no part in whatever says Ah you know what that that seems like a place I’d like to to put down some roots for a while so we’ll get to that as well later that’s what Adrian wowski talking about the move so um here we go the mar rosen’s a Sacramento King yeah 24 25 million I’ve seen it reported differently in a couple different places on a three-year deal the third year partially guaranteed I like that this lines up with uh Keegan Murray’s extension coming Fox’s extension coming so the money makes sense uh the kings are not cap locked they have their mle to work with uh so they should in theory Jason be able to add uh another really solid rotational piece been names like cam Johnson and others thrown out there um but but that is uh that’s the move yeah and I think you know in in real time when it’s playing out look we’re all looking at social media trying to figure out you know what’s going on is this really happening Demar rosen’s in town uh he’s gonna meet with a Clipper still and then when word was really starting to uh I went to the classic on well both days but on what day was the first one Saturday yeah um and dear’s here yeah and you know multiple people had seen him and everybody was talking about him in the arena and then it was like okay this sounds like it’s going to happen and then literally when it did and then you just knew they were going to bring him out and it just that was a really cool for for an offseason scrimmage let’s say basically to have Demar de rozan announced via social media and then I within probably 10 minutes the of mon come out first then the and Demar D rozan come out and just a huge Ovation for him they really nailed that and then Fox came out which was cool I’m like okay where’s Malik but I Malik had his press conference earlier in the day must have had something because Malik usually would be around for those kind of things so anyway all of that was uh was pretty cool but the D rozan part was it looked like he was touched by that too so what do you do Jason as a radio host here do you I don’t see throw cold water on anything but how long until we get realistic what do you mean I’m I what I I always worry first about the fans of the team all of us as a collective psychology okay and for example there’s a there’s a conversation in here about like how the floor I think I saw somebody say the floor for this team is a six se that is incredibly not true the floor for this team is not a six seed the floor for this team is probably still a playing and I’m not talking about injuries either I’m talking about there are some real conversations we have to have this team did not get better defensively okay they didn’t right uh I would say leadership for leadership I love that you go from HB and his leadership Demar D rozan is a guy everyone listens to and people absolutely love you got incredibly better offensively but it’s also important to remember that you don’t just you can’t take Harrison Barnes as what he have 12 points last year I don’t know what the hell 14 well I don’t know right right right so let’s let’s say 14 that doesn’t mean the kings are going to score 10 more points a game you don’t just plug and play those opportunities come from somebody else uh dearon Fox is a guy that needs the ball in his hands and when he has the ball in his hands he holds it for a b know he he’s got that ball for a minute Demar D Roan’s the same uh there’s spacing questions when Demar D rozan gets it and all of a sudden this highflying back and forth crazy movement offense there’s some questions there um and Demar as you heard W talk about Demar D rozen’s defense which was never great in the first place is kind of deter in fact his words deteriorated now we’re not expecting that he’s going be 35 August 7th we’re paying a 35 year old $25 million a year for offense it’s a it’s a it’s a great move right it does not solve those Frontline defensive issues this team has it does solve some of those offensive issues and those spread issues that not spread issues but that’s now going to allow a lot of guy you know guys like Fox obviously monk um herder Ellis to catch and shoot a lot more than they can because Demar can screw around on the inside and do his thing he’s tremendous at that I just worry about expectations going into the start of the season if we’re if our expectations are we’re the best team in the Pacific on paper we’re not that’s the Suns if our expectations are you know the floor is six by the way we might be the three two or one seed I’m not I don’t want to cancel that out but there are some questions that it’s important to keep in mind still that are lingering about the squad I would say to that yes yes yes and yes right I mean my my honest opinion of the Kings today is almost as similar as it was last week and my overall statement da honestly I think the floor for the Kings is a non-playing team I agree I I I agree with I was actually trying to S but I I agree with you and I think the ceiling is a one seat wait hold on just to be clear when you non-playing meaning okay just want to make sure you’re not saying six you’re saying yeah yeah yeah I got you no and I think the kings are in a group of honestly people are gonna think I think that’s OKC I think that’s Dallas I think that’s the Lakers I think that’s the Suns I think that’s the I think that’s the batch yeah some like good teams are gonna miss yep Kings could be the team they were good team last year right they were good right they weren’t great um but they were good New Orleans could miss New Orleans could be the best team I I just I think it’s that honestly I think it’s that fragile now I think they got better yes but I think there are questions for sure and and to your point by the way now I’m being positive Harry uh I will say this I think it’s more if you told me that one of two things were going to happen the kings were going to miss the playoffs or be a top three seed in the west I’d take the top three seed in the west if I had to bet if I had to bet right so to your point it is just so but if we get mixed into the floor is the six seed yeah they’re not Boston they didn’t turn into Boston they but I think I think they got better but you know the people that have questions and doubt I I get it I I get it but I I think just talent for talent they got better it honestly feels a lot even if you just look at free throw shooting getting to the line late in games absolutely convert just even that it fills a huge void yeah the that I keep landing on is I’m you were there I’m at the New Orleans playin game when Fox was good Murray and sabonis just couldn’t get going they didn’t have Monk and then you go man it would been nice to have another go-to guy well that’s the game look every they load every all herb Jones all those talented Wings on Fox I’m not saying D rozan saves the day but that have been nice to have him then last year you better freaking believe it cut number two please cut number two uh so we we know he’s dealing with one I think we got to get him in here and get with our get with our doctors and and just see what it is but um you know we’re what what we get through the draft process our docs are uh confident we’ve been in touch with this team we’re all right that’s Monty McNair talking about Devin Carter’s uh surgery we’re we’re gonna get to that in the next segment as we we do some Kings news that’s not de Demar D rozan since we’ll be focusing that on that all day and we spent a lot of time on Demar d r Ro in that last uh that that last number one in leading off so so to say let’s recap that and yeah let’s see when was the D rozan signing was the sixth Saturday yeah Saturday Saturday was a big day Malik kind of formally introduced so you had uh the debut on the fourth of Kendrick Lamar’s video not like us featuring Demar D roen briefly but he was in there featuring and then uh now he’s now he’s here uh Monty’s offseason so far Jason he has extended Mike Brown yeah drafted Devin Carter resigns Malik monk signning trade for Demar D rozan yeah traded sashan Davon got MCD think that few other things yeah how would you grade it if that’s the off season um not a single other move happens yeah um I would say I mean I was trying to say this last week when there was I would say more Panic not wait for another move because I didn’t know if that would happen for sure but I I felt like the monk move wasn’t getting its appropriate attention yeah I I could tell that with you and you’re right I could tell you felt that way last week because you would you would bring it up when I whatever happen and it’s like oh what happened well yes but like we try to put ourselves in a world where Malik monk signed with the Spurs with the Pistons with the magic with the Sixers um that’s a big deal he did not he elected to stay in Sacramento so uh the Mike Brown thing I think was very important um probably less uh sizzled to that just be I I don’t want to demean coaches but we kind of looked to the players more but anyway that’s that was an important piece you didn’t want him to go in on a final year you know there’s an alternate world you just made me think of I hadn’t yet where Malik monk left yeah and Demar J rozan was his replac and I wonder what yeah would that land differently better worse yeah how would that land now yeah honestly I don’t know I haven’t had time to think about it but for some maybe for you know if there’s some questioning it maybe for some better maybe I don’t know but I I like it the way it is but I think the monk Parts really I mean I think those three things are in any other year I would think that would be about as good as it’s ever been I mean I think the one Landmark one that changed yeah I mean that there were so many changes was almost like well are all these going to work and kind of all of them did I mean getting Adelman sure J drafting Jay will flat Weber Paia coming I mean that’s that’s transformative but I mean you go hey Mike Brown you kept the guy who might win six man if he turns off the bench or start who knows but he was really good last year D rozan Hall of Fame player now qu all the things this is all going to fit still we all that to debate but I would say Monty’s offseason’s been pretty good well we start with the draft pick de Carter and we it was confirmed over the weekend that uh he will need shoulder s surgery uh he may very well miss the start of the Season he will not participate in summer league uh so there’s that uh remember 63 defensive point guard but he is expected to make a full recovery it does not appear that he’ll miss a significant portion of the season and I don’t know I haven’t seen it yet which of course does not mean uh that it’s that it’s not out there but have we seen specifically what the injury is no I think they’ve been a little bit vague I mean you know out at the classic the last couple days some were talking about it something similar to Kevin herder similar now I don’t know that it’s the exact same thing what kind of um you know when Herter’s back shooting now but I mean he missed that’s he’s been out for a while so um yeah I I don’t I don’t want to say without knowing so but he’s definitely missing time missing the um California classic missing Vegas and sounds like likely the beginning part of the Season likely uh Monty said on draft day the draft is not about right now the draft is about adding somebody to our team who can be here for a long time we try to draft the best player available so those those that those words kind exent right yes ring a little bit oh by the way um the king signed Jordan MCL yes so there’s that uh if you’re wondering about you know here’s a here’s a guy who’s kind of been a this is uh this goes in the well you wanted this team to have more dogs category he’s he’s one of I’m not talking about like a Draymond Green type of confrontational dude but um this is a guy who has made his way around the league at 28 years old he’s not going to blow you the page with his numbers at all but he’s a dude that can go in there and run offense and play defense and just gives him you he’s six feet tall he’s going to be uh an end of the bench contributor more than likely outside you know or Fringe of the regular season rotation but a type a dude that’s going to give you quality minutes in uh early February when you need those quality minutes in the doldrums of the season so uh nothing to write home about but I don’t think it’s like um what’s his face the the the power forward they got in that McDaniels McDaniels yeah who who I I don’t even know if he’s going to be on the team yeah I mean that’s he’s kind of as of now feels like a little bit of the mystery player because I think the the FR his frame is a fit I don’t know if his game is that’s the thing there but uh I think the Carter one is interesting because I could get why a lot of people are I mean look I want him I wanted him to play this weekend I wanted to see what he what they got what do he look like right um more importantly I I think longer term is is the bigger deal like look these are are dramatic examples but you know Philly took a guy like Joel embiid and he missed two seasons Ben Simmons missed a season there’s other people that have missed time and had great career like all that stuff could still happen um just it’s selfishly you want to see a guy they drafted be able to play right now and see what he looks like I gotta watch all Providence games now yeah uh and finally um you know transparency is key you know I’m always honest I haven’t talked to you about this I was going to wait until we were face to face and on the show to do this but uh if you’re wondering why maybe you know we’ve talked and King’s fans because we are all a family and we all live and die together with this team and I just want to make sure that everybody gets this and there’s I’m not using hyperbole whatsoever the national Media Local you know a lot of local media although they understand it obviously a lot more you know while Malik he had a you know this is where he fits in with the lineup and this and that he his tenure and Mike Brown loved to play with Deon Fox and all that is incredibly true but I want to make sure that King’s fans truly realize that they recruited Malik Monk they he stayed because of you because of how this fan base is Doug Christie said it I I accept I I expect nothing less out of this fan base when he was talking about D rozan getting inted and you could see the look if you see the look on Demar D rozen’s face they’re in the middle of a of a not even a official Summer League game in early July and the crowd pop was like uh you it was insane and you see this look on on dear’s face a guy who played in San Antonio a guy who played in Chicago and and won a title in Toronto won a title in Toronto and it was like wait what like this kind of what you could tell it was it he felt so good about it and I just I do think this is the best fan base in the world I’m obviously biased but when you heard Malik monk talk over the weekend the through line in his conversations was I I I Feel Love here I’m loved here it’s all love I feel like I I this is a home here for me and I think it’s important especially for a lot of us who have lived here our whole lives like we don’t understand what a guy like Malik monk would be looking at with he and his family elsewhere so you you talk about like a big city well what if he goes to Philly what if he goes to Chicago okay well you go to Philly or Chicago and and and you’re gonna have the media going crazy on you like come on Malik you miss that you bum right by the way I should go back on the Toronto I don’t know why I said he was tra for Kawhi Leonard that didn’t happen he was on playoff teams but I we pretend that exactly uh and then let’s be honest there’s there’s other locals in the NBA where maybe a person that looks like Malik isn’t always welcomed everywhere he goes where he’s made to feel a little bit differently here and I’m not saying Sacramento doesn’t have its it’s bad people of course every city does but it just I I was so filled with pride hearing him talk was just so proud of our fan base that he made it so incredibly clear I could have gone elsewhere I probably could have made more money uh I’m I’m sure I could have gone somewhere where they guaranteed I was going to start but when you add in all the fox and the the Mike Brown and the the all the things it’s also the fan base the lighting of the beam the the cheering the support and I want to make sure that fans get a chance to take their own bow cuz you guys had a massive part in keeping him here absolutely and building this culture it’s a lot of things it’s always been here it’s just imagine that the the the fans are like walking gasoline and there just haven’t been a lot of matches and Sparks to light us and now we’ve got all these finally you’re getting this is what happens when you just get a little bit of success yeah and you you look at Malik’s decisionmaking process I think it’s really important to backtrack to the end of last year so he ends the season hurt technically they were not a playoff team yeah so he’s been here two years part of one playoff team part of another one that didn’t make it really wanted the six-man didn’t win it um had said he wanted to start hasn’t started here and we know he was going to or at least we were led to believe I think it’s fair to say that he would have been offered more money in several places absolutely yet he kind of cut that off pretty quickly made a decision to stay here I think the if my timeline is right I can’t remember when he officially made his decision had they already traded Davon I don’t remember the order of that it sounded like he made his decision way before yeah but you know they were looking at these other moves they had some crowded situation in the back court but he still all of that I think there were some reasons to not pick Sacramento right but he did he he talked about the decision-making process and and letting the Kings know early that he was going to be back here being a team player man uh like I said I could have I just said it earli I could have took more money somewhere um but I I said It felt home here it felt like home here um and them letting them know letting the organization know early um this the least I could do um for sure CU we need I think a few more pieces and they looking for a few more pieces so I think they doing a job he was also asked if it was stuff to keep it secret that he was recar no it wasn’t cuz I already knew uh I knew I knew I knew um it’s not really hard to to to keep a secret in when you stand here um I think it’s it’s fun to keep the secret because it’s going to be even more exciting when I tell them I’m staying so um it was it was a fun journey I loved it um can’t wait till four more years here okay so four more years here hopefully uh he was also asked if he wants to start listen very carefully to his answer here of course want to start um but I I’m coming here U free minded and and do whatever the team needs me to do um but if I feel like I need to start I might voice it um because now I got to voice a little bit I can say something um that that that a stand um but yeah I’m still coming in free minded and come here to win games okay so again just an opinion no one’s got ESP here I read that as him saying everything but yes I want to start and I’m going to be pissed if I don’t like he’s got to be a pro but you could he was asked the question immediately yeah I want to start and he said that last year too it kind of feels like hey guys I I came off the bench last year I should have won probably six man of the year I obviously want to start kind of you know I did what was best for the organization I took less money I I let you know early so you could draft around that and free agent around that uh I really want to start it’s gonna feel a little weird if he doesn’t start next year probably for him I am trying to think of this in if they same day same time media has a chance to talk to Keon Ellis and Kevin herder do you want to start why wouldn’t their answer be yes of I would like to but I’m gonna do whatever to help the team I think everybody wants to and there’s some like does Alex Lenn want to start probably but you’re not he’s not going to no but Malik is starter worthy yes I mean this isn’t like hey this is a stretch um I’ve always said it doesn’t matter who starts who finishes but I I think my bottom line on Malik he has to play more minutes he has to so if he doesn’t start he he can’t get he plays a lot but he needs to play more so he can’t get lost and well as a sub it just this other guy was cooking Malik’s one of the best players on the team yes he needs to be playing averaging 26 minutes a game last year which is almost starter minutes yeah but like for example Barnes played more and Barnes did not have a better year than Malik monk now Barnes had a role and he was a starter and he’s been you know he’s been important to this team but I think Malik monk should have played more minutes uh Harrison Barnes played 29 minutes a game last year which was down from 36 33 and 32 in years prior 34 Mike started pulling his minutes a little bit and someone like go what’s three minute three minutes over a season per game is a lot and you’re also playing with the starters a lot you’re not that monk never played with the and he usually is a closer which I love that but still yeah he needs to be on the floor yeah I I I agree but then the the the problem there is it’s what’s the right thing to do by Malik who did something right for you uh and and by the way you know I’m seing a couple people well he had 78 million reasons to come back look well we’re all working men and women I get it yeah but from an NBA point of view that is a market rate below contract number one number two he could have gotten more it documented could have gotten more money elsewhere so I’m I’m not trying to make it out like Malik’s a saint and and uh you know we we we should you know erect a statue of him not that I’m saying we shouldn’t but uh he did the he did the organization is solid and by the way I’m not saying Demar D rozen doesn’t sign if Malik doesn’t they’re they’re not connected but other players and agents see that why did wow I know Malik he could have got more money what what they got going on over there man I know we play there I love playing there fans are great like the beam all that but man they really must have something going on over there oh couple days later Demar D rozan signs a free agent deal o by the way choosing the Kings over both of his hometown teams right could have gone to the Clippers chose the Kings could have gone to the Lakers chose the kings that he chose the Kings with no previous Roots he has roots all his roots are in La correct that’s a big deal man yeah anyway more Malik monk here uh he was asked about U the golf here Golf Course is pretty influential keep yeah I need my memberships um it’s a lot of people say I get memberships when I come back I hope yall see this I need them all we’ve reached out Pay The Man his money we happily want to we just basically need to have him on you know first few questions will be of course you know hey signing welcome back but that’s already been covered and then it’s like all right Malik you ready for the and Carmichael Dave show with Jason Ross here’s question one coming up the top of the hour Chuck sski Chicago Bulls between now and then we’re going to talk about Demar D rozan and the culture of the Sacramento Kings in the meantime Chris Rad’s got three questions for us we have not seen them in advance they’re all surprises question number one how would you grade the king’s off season right now solid B I give a solid B I know the Temptation is to give it an a I I’m just going to I I I have hard and fast rules I’m living by I I love that Demar D Roan’s on the team I love that Malik Monk’s back I love that Mike Brown got extended those are moves that should not be underrated you have your computer up or is that me I think it’s you is that me interesting um that was funny uh that being said the hard and fast rule for me was are you going to give Damonte sabonis some help on defense are you going is as it stands right now we’ve got a wonderful group of in a backcourt rotation uh when you add if you add in Keegan Murray uh I would go as far to say the one two and three spots are fantastic and and we know Keegan can slide to four at times but asking Keegan to guard Force fulltime and then asking damont sabonis to do what he did last year and this year now offensively and defensively I I I think you’re playing with fire and I think those things that are you know when the season nobody wants to hear this right now because we’re all in heaven but once the season starts I think other teams are still going to be able to expose a lot of the same things defensively they did last year Demar will change that it’s an upgrade from Harrison it’s a huge offensive upgrade but I’m talking about defensively now please keep in mind they’re all they’re going to be able to Target Demar D Ro they’re going to still Target damonta sabonis Keegan’s GNA have his hands full and you can’t expect him to do anything and your best defensive players outside of Keegan are all 65 and below and in most cases 6’3 uh and below so I would say it’s a b because there’s still a gaping hole in this team that I think ceilings them but if he’s able to add in a wing or a big that can play defense then it’s going to go very quickly from a b to an AA plus yeah think there’s there’s some elements that are really good for the grade like keeping Malik is maybe an A+ I mean it would have cost them extending Mike Brown is up in that range uh acquiring D rozan for what it cost them is up is up High um you know drafting Carter I think it was positive he’s hurt that drops it down a little bit right now doesn’t doesn’t break the deal I think he still be great but that hurts and I I still don’t know that I entirely understand the Davon Sasha trade but that’s also a little incomplete if McDaniels like doesn’t even play right the other two guys were kind of well one was in your rotation the other one kind of was for someone that doesn’t play like that to me is not great but um that’s also incomplete so I’m I’m in that b range too with probably a b with an arrow going up I think it could go higher but it’s it’s a b it’s good it’s been a good offseason if a 10 between one and 10 if a 10 is insanely unbalanced and if this team was at a nine or a 10 prior to the halberton trade remember how imbalanced that roster was there’s a similar imbalance right now I’m talking you’re you’re imbalance the smallers than the Biggers but what would you say that number is are we a six a seven an eight yeah it feels probably more like a six five or six for me but it becomes a 10 if sabonis gets hurt that’s oh yeah then it 30 yeah you’re right that’s the thing we’re we’re on the head of a pin there I mean he’s one of your players he’s playing a very important position but yeah you’re like now I think they’re better equipped heaven forbid if something happened to FOX I don’t want it to obviously I agree with but I’m like okay they can function and they’ll be you know it’s not a deal but if the sabon if sabonis were to get a significant injury that’d be crucial nobody this team is worse with the Aaron Fox outs that that full stop so no one take this out of context but to your point if dearon were to miss three weeks next year a month they’ll be all right yeah you because you can say okay well we’ll throw in this guy and then we’ve got this guy to take or slide this guy over and now we’re just going to be relying more on the demard rose and Keegan Murray’s damont you you’ll you’re not going to replace a fox but in some aspects like defensively not that fox is a bad Defender at all but you’re gonna have somebody that’s GNA Focus full-time on defense that’s also like Keon Ellis starting for dearon Fox at the one the team’s probably going to be better defensively not because dearon Fox isn’t a good Defender but because dear is asked to do so much on both sides of the floor Keon’s going to do more defensively but he’s going to be nowhere near what dear is offensively right that’s not you can’t say well if we lose fox or we lose Keegan you know our our two assumed bigs as of right now going into next year it’s like oh my God Trey ly Alex Len no offense to them but there’s much less of a drop off in the back court than there is the front court and that’s the worry uh part of it uh number two please question two in a word describe Harrison Barnes tenure in Sacramento safe and let me explain he safe is such a Swiss army knife of a word Harrison Barnes was always safe he wasn’t going to go crazy sure he’d have the opening night 31 or whatever that was and yeah he’d have those single digit games but Harrison is always there he’s a Honda ACC Court of the NBA he’s reliable he’s not a Ferrari but he’s also not a jalopy he’s just he’s a guy that’ll get you from point A to point B safe in the sense that I think he made a lot of these guys feel safe not from like you know attacks From the Mob I’m talking about safe as in having those conversations on the bus uh after a huge loss um being able to guide everybody with his leadership remember him being traded on the bench in Dallas uh back in the day coming in here and really shepherding this young team with his leadership uh and and then safe in the sense that what he did in this community uh what he did with his voice uh and what he did by staying here voluntarily and enjoying himself and making a life for himself also I think uh did wonders will never even know as far as building uh this culture I said once on Twitter that um this is in the the worst days of of the the you know this is before halberton when the kings were just I think it was after right when Jer got fired it was like I think everybody’s been here five years or long or four years or longer they got to go they have that stink of of bad culture on them and and I’ll never forget it was uh dearen Fox’s wife re say who was like dude how stupid do you have to be to want to trade Harrison Barnes because of culture and she was right you know whether it’s a losing team or winning team Harrison Barnes is a guy that’s going to be he’s the same he’s not a a front runner he’s the same guy and I can’t say enough about the man and I fully expect speaking of this fan base that that standing go when he comes back it’s gonna hit hard yeah it should be I was debating on two different words so one word to describe and one feels like needed like they just needed to him needed for what he brought then what he brought when they were better what he brought in tough times and good times but I think the word I’m going to choose is professional mhm and I mean tell me great word tell me like that’s that’s him right like in all the all that that means right reliable there for you probably funny when he needed to be funny but serious uh Locker impr just he’s a Pro and he’s he’s a good one to have on your team how many times did we joke when the kings are terrible Jason after a loss oh bartha’s gonna open this one up huh oh yeah and they would always bring him out and there’s the guy having to answer for a you know 15 well not a 15 win team a 25 win team that he’s like yeah I’ve been on championship teams I have I have to come out and talk about this but I’ll do it but he will I will and if Harrison Barnes was the professor it’s kind of funny because Demar D rozan comes in he’s a guy that’s actually older than Barnes more of a veteran um total leader people adore him but he also like Harrison’s like the guy who’s like the banker with the glasses that like Demar is like this a leader in every aspect but like also has this cool Factor M that that not a lot of guys do yeah there’s some Vibes to him so it’s kind of like this next evolution of the Kings right now Harrison served his purpose in that that frame of their lives now dear comes in as a as a totally different type of leader and Mentor number three please that’s number three question three hey is it sticking today yeah yeah if the season started tomorrow what would be your starting five for second all right so we’ll go uh sabonis and Keegan at the 54 but I don’t think the four is where Keegan should be probably well and fox is the one now is where it gets a little tricky because do you go Monk and Frozen at the two and three and then herder’s your sixth man I think that’s probably what it will be but if I’m being honest probably the better the I’ve struggled to say the better team wouldn’t be Fox Ellis D rozan Keegan sabonis and then I’ll go back to it I know it’s not going to happen but the best team of all actually might be something like Fox Ellis monk the really small um Murray and sabonis and D rozan is your super six who plays at the who plays at the end I look I know it’s not gonna happen but I’m saying the idea of having that type of again I’m torn between being excited for D rozan to come here and monk like I want him to start yeah but I get it I get it I get it um totally get it I yeah I think we kind of cover I guess the only other tweak because I just don’t think this will happen but I you know we can’t forget two years ago he pretty good what if it’s Fox herder d r roen Murray and sabonis now again I think the lineup might change because I think there’s another move to be made so I’m gonna I’m gonna hang my hat on that but the question was today um yeah I think that that that would be the group I’d go with I just don’t think this roster’s complete yet I don’t either I think I think there’s another four or five coming four meaning position four voice of the Chicago Bulls radio broadcast coming up in about 25 minutes we’ll talk to him about dear yeah as a human uh as a as a player as a a vet all the stuff you want to know but he is a six-time Allstar three-time all NBA player and the Kings gave up two second round picks Harrison Barnes Chris dwarte and a future first round swap on the surface Jason well dwarte wasn’t really fitting in last year Harrison is Harrison but when you look at just at least offensively the the difference between the two it’s a huge upgrade yeah two second round picks whatever right I don’t care um I’ve heard 24 and 26 so let’s call it three years and uh 75 million you know 25 million a year with the third year uh only partial guarantee that’s going right oh yeah yeah fine in fact his deal is far better than Paul George’s deal and uh obviously George is a better defensive player but their offensive numbers are incredibly similar except that J rozan plays in like 30 more games a year than George yeah um I’ll tell you one thing about the trade though and I’m not going to stick on this but it’s just gonna bug me I get it if you had to get it done you had to get it done man I that that pick swap worries me a little bit San Antonio is so smart I know it’s like I I get it we’ve talked about it before like oh I don’t have to pay that bill for another 10 years I’m going to enjoy the sports car now that is a pick swap in six years seven years uh that’s when both sabonis and fox are going to be in their early 30s assuming they’re still here which odds are who knows and San Antonio it’s just so smart of them that’s Victor wanyama is gonna be what 25 they’re gonna be almost certainly competing for titles at that point or at least at the top end of the Western Conference I just I don’t want to be sitting here and as a Kings fan you have to have this thought where uh you get demard de R rozan you’ve got this team they’re a 50- win a year team they’re the BL as always say the example I always use they’re the Blazers with Dame Lillard they’re they’re going to get to the second round they’re going to get to the third round sometimes they might even sneak in a Western Conference Finals but they’re ceilinged out everybody gets old you start rebuilding oh we got a pick swap in 2031 the other side of that is it’s a long time for money to get it back if he wanted I’m not gonna I’m not gonna stick on that but demaro rosen’s a Sacramento King when you thought when you heard that Jason what was your first thought I was very excited for multiple reasons won the player uh and I was I wanted to look up the the stat because I didn’t have it in front of me when I brought it up earlier but just where he is statistically and I know there’s more to basketball than than points but part of the goal is to score more points than the other team and he’s one of the best bucket Getters the league has at he’s 31st alltime in scoring so if he has a standard year and I’m just giving him he doesn’t have to go off but he’s been a 20 point per score uh score per game um if he has a standard year this year at 31st in the league all time in scoring these are the names he will likely pass this year potentially Steph it just depends on if Steph would probably have to be injured but I’m assuming he won’t get him uh Barkley Iverson Ray Allen Patrick Ying Reggie Miller and Jerry West oh those are some decent names so and now you’re talking about like more of the top 25 and okay so that’s one part um the positives continue to be um a guy who can get his own basket a guy who’s A Gifted pass uh clutch right fourth quarter him and Daron Fox have battled for the most clutch points the last couple years uh love that he has a mid-range game loves that love that he gets to the foul line um experience he’s been a number one option he’s kind of been versatile you know at times for Chicago he played two three and four in a sense um you know when LaVine was healthy he was more in that three four position I think ideally maybe he’s a two but I mean I don’t know I think he can play a lot of different spots um I said it earli I’ll go back to just the final new Orleans game the sixth loss the second playing game when Monk’s not there right Fox does a lot of the heavy lifting sabonis had trouble with Valen chunis they don’t look the same and then you’re needing Keon you’re needing Davon you’re needing Barnes you’re needing Murray and it just uh it it they didn’t have it and again I’m not saying they win with d rozan but D rozan helps you offens ly and for the people which this is a 100% Fair criticism to say I don’t think they addressed their defense I don’t think they did either but I don’t think we can ignore I think a lot of people go they’re fine offensively well they were number one offensively two years ago not sure they were middle of the pack yes so I I mean I think they were middle of the pack in both that’s good be good at be great at something and I think they can be great offensively there are concerns defensively that’s more more than fair to bring up um but you know a team that I don’t think was very good defensively and I think statistics showed it was Indiana but they were special offensively yes and they had a great year now things fell right and they got to Boston and ultimately lost out there but I don’t know that the Kings will do that I just think you kind of need to pick a lane unless you can identify you know a player that makes you that much better defensively but I think they made a player found a player that fits a lot of things offensively there might be something on and obviously we’re going to talk a ton more about dear’s fit but I would say from an NBA from a Kings fan point of view the thing that takes the wrinkles out of the shorts more than any part of this deal perhaps Demar D rozan working off sabonis pick and rolls dude oh my God yeah he’s never ever played with the type of spacing and screens he’s going to get from this team and from damont sabonis he hasn’t he just not anywhere he’s been the the amount of wide openen mides this guy is going to have and he is the king of the mid the amount of time sabonis is gonna set a screen and dear is gonna all he needs is a split second yeah and an open shot he doesn’t need to be open right that’s gonna be fun to watch yeah and one of my critiques of the team last year when they talked about you know we didn’t shoot enough threes or what was the spray threes catch and shoot all the things they wanted to do I said great in Theory I I thought they were a good shooting team sure I I didn’t think like we had the Splash Brothers like no you know there’ll be Knights on Man keegans on Fire monks on Fire H or whoever they’re Fox they’re great they’re enough nights like man the threes aren’t going so and D rozan will shoot them he doesn’t he doesn’t avoid it but he’s not a high volume guy and the fact that if he can get twos he can get some free throws like to stop some of the runs that they were given up last year oh good Demar de rozan got to the foul line all right he’s at least making one most likely two um can carry a team for stretches they’ll be nice well he’ll be the high scorer in the team he’s his best assist years were with Spurs that’s a pretty well-run offense so I think I think they’ll figure it out I think it might be clunky at the beginning I mean it’s it’s yeah you got some gifted offensive players but they they’ll figure it out we’ll take a break when we come back uh that’s the second free agent if you will uh that shows the kings of their own free will for the culture and who they keep these these guys away from tun what is this culture what is this culture everyone’s talking about we’ll get to that right after this our simplest one Chuck uh Jason’s gonna I’m sure ask next about the player I’m just gonna ask about the human the uh the leader the the teammate what kind what type of person are the Kings getting into marar Rose well uh great question and I hope Kings fans along with the front office coaching staff players that are listening to your show right now guys I’m telling you right now you got an incredible human being now a lot of times we just throw these accolades around I’m telling you was with this man 365 during the course of the Season uh before games after games during practice everything and he is the real deal and he is a great locker room player human being same thing with teammates rookies awesome and he’s one of the finest people forget basketball he’s one of the finest human beings I have ever met period I mean I mean what a statement right there I mean are there um stories that you could share possibly like that helped I mean obviously I I you know we all believe that we’ve all heard that we know the Spurs thought highly of them Toronto certainly Chicago has I know the kings are obviously very interest him what is it about him Chuck that that stands out so much in that area well the fact number one that he really truly number one let me just say this and then we can get into exes and those later but one thing about theor is he loves the game there are players who say they love the game but he truly loves the game and because of that he cares so we had a situation last year I dosumu had his jersey retired at the University of Illinois iow for your sake of your listeners is a reserve guard on our team really an upcoming player but uh he’s from the Chicago land area went to the University of Illinois which is located about two and a half three hours south of Chicago and the Bulls after practice and Isle was headed to Champagne For The Jersey ceremony and dear said I got this I’m going with you so he arranged where they drove down to Champagne after practice had I’s jersey retired pulled a U-turn was at practice the next morning at shoot around so this gives you an indication this sent a message to every young player same thing with d and Terry invited D and Terry Bull’s number one pick two years ago out of Arizona I want you to come to La I want you to train with me so this the type of person and player you’re getting with dear D rozan treats the media total respect and he’s very humble for a guy that’s been in the league and who’s headed to the Hall of Fame and he is a Hall of Fame player six-time Allstar he is eess and yet on the floor he gets it done every single night his clutch numbers you have it in front of you free throw attempts you have it in front of you and he shows up and he plays every game I mean he missed what three games this year in three seasons with the bulls he played 93% of the time and every game was anywhere between 35 to 40 minutes that’s voice of the Chicago Bulls Chuck sworski nobody knows better about uh dear’s person and a player so I I’ll ask you this based on what you said um and I’ll adjust the question a little bit Chuck we here in Sacramento have a well-deserved inferiority complex not just because of the performance uh of the team over the years but also we’re Sacramento we’re surrounded by Giants and San Francisco and La even San Diego Tahoe we we’re not a destination city so I think for a lot of us the joy was not just in getting the player in the human in Demar G rozan but also the fact that if you believe reports he chose us of his own free will over amongst other teams at least one of his hometown squads the Clippers so for us Chuck that’s a shock I’m guessing you’re not as shocked as we are that he chose Sacramento no I’m not uh you know he wants to win he went through the Toronto you know Toronto had some really good years with dear they just couldn’t get past LeBron with the Cavs and with Miami I get that because you know with the Bulls in the first three championships if you look at things Cleveland had a really good ball Club New York really good ball Club Reggie Miller Indiana they just couldn’t get past MJ and Pippen well in the case of dear you know that Toronto team with himself Kyle Lowry really good ball Club but Cleveland too strong with Lebron Miami the same thing so now he goes to gets traded for kawh Leonard and what happens is that he gets traded qu Leonard plays one season with the Raptors they win the title and I’m telling you right now and having covered this league and done this league so they made a coaching change Dwayne Casey released Nick nurse comes in elevated from being an assistant head coach and I am telling you right now even had they not made that trade with San Antonio they would have won the title that year with dear de Rosen and he came into San Antonio with a chip and one of the best things that ever happened to demard Rosen was playing under pop they have a special special relationship because during that time in San Antonio dear’s father was very ill and passed away and Greg papovich stayed with him and was with him 247 and I’m talking about like 247 During the period of time with the passing and then with Demar getting back and playing NBA games and then he gets traded in a sign trade with the bulls and he had three really really good years as you know Allstar with the Bulls and the Bulls are going another Direction like a lot of NBA teams a runs over and you say many thanks and the Bulls obviously are going to honor dear when the Kings come to town but that’s how this narrative played out he is a great human being and Kings fans are going to love him because he comes to play every night you know Chuck looking at uh the positives of him as a player on the floor your one of your great calls is Big onions like he comes in and has he’s been clutch you’ve you’ve said that for him many times uh free throw shooting the mid-range game what what are some of the things as a gifted score in this league that he’s been that Kings fans are going to be excited about well they’re going to be excited because he Embraces pressure you know some players run away from it guys let me tell you what Jason ADI he loves it he loves fourth quarter he loves the bright lights and he loves a big stage and he loves the fans going crazy I mean this this guy was born to play in the NBA he’s from Compton California he’s very appreciative of fans that have stayed with him from day one and he has never forgotten where he came from he loves Compton so when you see the big picture you’re getting a player that in ISO he is lethal and he does that double triple pump fake and players who have been in the league five years 8 years 12 years still go for it and that’s why you’ve got the stats and front of you I mean he’s averaging eight free throw attempts per game and in a league and the league is going to change with the rules I mean we saw second half of the year with defense they’re going to allow a little bit more physicality and that all means that Tomar is going to go to the stripe I mean uh this was a great fit for Sacramento we when we talk about fit and Chuck you know you you’ve got you’ve got the team you got to pay the most attention to right in front of you but you know the league and and you know the Kings when you when you see a fox and a sabonis I had remarked to Jason one thing I’m incredibly excited about is is DeMar getting open looks off of sabonis screens is there anything that jumps out at you about the specific uh folks he’s playing with in style that you think are are really going to help him shine well I think uh playing with Theon Fox definitely will help no doubt about that playing with sabonis definitely will help um one thing with um you you look at the Western Conference and it’s loaded it’s stacked everyone realizes that but this is another add-on to the Sacramento roster where you can say he is a plus player and anytime you can add a plus player a winning player to the combination of what you have already with the Kings is terrific and I think when you examine what’s happening with the West I mean every night it’s going to be crazy and that means you’re going to have a lot of close games you’re going to go into the fourth quarter last five minutes at crunch time and guess what at clutch time who do you have on the floor we got two of the best players in the NBA so if they want to Stack Up on one of the two that other player’s going to be open sabonis is going to be open Malik monk could be on the floor he’ll be open I mean it’s it’s really a wonderful situation for Mike Brown it really is talk with Bulls radio voice chuck sworski chuck kind of a two-parter here um I know it’s positionist basketball these days and Demar has played lots of different positions but just in your time calling him what position do you think best suits him and then where what positions is he best suited to guard how is he kind of defensively well uh I’ll say this I think uh and you’re right on target regarding positionist basketball uh I I listen if you ask Tomar the Bulls went small so many times I mean Caruso was playing the four and Caruso was guarding Kevin Durant he was guarding Giannis and this the way the league is trending so if you put Demar at the two or the three I don’t really think honestly you can go back maybe 10 20 30 40 years ago and I’ve seen a lot of NBA ball as a kid and now broadcasting where you used to say well he’s a one he’s a four I think he’s a wi to three and four those days are over now if you get somebody uh who is really gifted and he’s seven feet he can stretch the floor or he can post up that’s different but in this day and age with the NBA and the way the game is played so I think dear is going to be fine and defensively I mean you take a look at how many block shots he gets uh during the course of the season I venture to say and I don’t have any of our stats in front of me right now I would venture to say he was probably in our top four in Block shots during the course of the year and so you know uh there are a lot of star players in this league who give up after getting beat on a drive to the rim he doesn’t so I think you’re looking at a player who is still in his prime by the way a lot of times you get free agents at the tail end they they want to grab the money and and that’s it not with this guy money is never dictated demard D Roan’s ability to hoop I mean you know Toronto gave him a big deal and then you know he got traded and then he got big money with the bulls he’s getting a really nice check with the the kings that has never ever ever Define D rozan Money never will I mean it comes with the perks of being an NBA player that you’re going to get paid if you’re a really good player I understand that but if you’re telling me is it driven for him no I mean I think he I think he wants to be appreciated I think he wants to be respected but he knows his place in this game and he knows where he is at in the history of the NBA and that’s why one day and I would tell him this you could ask him this when you interview I would come to him and I’ve never told this story but now I will I would come to him every game or when I would see him at shoot around I was at every shoot around on the road and obviously I do every game for the Bulls I would come to him every game and say dear I love you I’m glad you’re here and I hope you come back now two of the three obviously he’s not returning and I wish him well I I and I do wish him all the best just like I want to see the Bulls get this thing turned around and and be successful but I would tell him all the time that I loved him because I love him as a man he is a great human being and I also told him I’m glad he’s here because the influence he had on our organization on the floor guys and off the court he treated everyone everyone didn’t matter what they did whether it was media relations broadcasting uh you know whether you’re strength and conditioning whether your equipment it didn’t matter you know what I mean community relations he would do stuff and always showed up on time he was great I think that’s a great way to wrap it up we’re not getting we’re not getting any better than that that’s the Fantastic Chuck sworski really swelling our hearts quite a bit we we we had heard about him as a human we obviously know about him as a player but but check for somebody like you to come on and put that into words somebody who who would know better than attempt right and you now know it’s going to be tougher now they’re going eventually hopefully to a Direction but I mean you moved Caruso and D Ro and and got sorry but you got Giddy and dwarte yeah yeah I mean and then I think LaVine you know it’s can they move LaVine can they move uh Vu like right they’re doing it they’re they’re trying for the younger group and I mean that’s a plan right but we the benefit of it and so is OKC and whoever else gets some of these other players and uh man what you had to say about dear though was pretty encouraging at least I mean first and foremost as a human being which you know look I don’t think the Kings did it this way on purpose but they’ve got a really good group of guys yes and you’d rather have a really good group of guys that are winners and if they win then it’s awesome to have a good group of guys it’s funny because you’re right like we want dogs we want dogs and they got good d one thing that’s one thing that I don’t think people necessarily care about because it’s not stat and it doesn’t directly correlate or it’s hard to pick up the correlation but in trading out Harrison Barnes you traded out your professor Your Leader the the nicest guy the the best human whatever you want to call it so you look at what they upgraded on offense but also and this is almost impossible to do they didn’t lose any character bringing D rozen in for Harrison Barnes right the they’re they’re obviously different people from different backgrounds and all that but but you got two Time character guys right there that’s right and on top of that he kind of got the best of all worlds with Mar Rosen because it’s like he’s a character dude he sounds like a total sweetheart of a human being also born and raised in Compton he’s literally in the kings were not a playoff team no and he chose them he chose them and he’s chasing and he wants a ring right that’s missing does he feel like what it’s better chance with the Kings and with the Lakers and the Clippers I mean that’s got to be part of his part of the decision and I don’t want to get in his head because we don’t know but also uh being in Sacramento it’s like you’re how do I say this you’re close enough to your family and your roots to be able to see them without it being an everyday distraction right like it’s kind of The Best of Both Worlds you’re here but not here you’re yeah you’re you can he literally could go see them on an off day in a 45 minute flight but he’s not having you know Uncle Jerry pop by after a game hang out you know I’m saying there are some players are like hey during the season I don’t want those I don’t know maybe’s guy you wants everybody there all the time I honestly don’t know but that could also be part of it too and the fact that they came up Chinese National Team it was the Spurs and Charlotte first game ended and then I want to say it was like you you can just tell something happened and everybody’s scurrying around like oh there it is it’s announced the trade is official and then more details are coming out and then the kings are going through their warm-ups and then they had not started the game yet so I mean that’s a matter of maybe 10 total minutes okay maybe so we’re talking what so I know maybe less I know the deal was done at the very latest and it could have been before but I know it was done the very latest this deal was done was 4m. I know okay so this was an announced till 7 yeah 20 okay so that’s a three three a minimum I mean again I I 4 pm is when I when I knew the deal was done I’m assuming it was done it’s not like they called me but I’m assuming it was done let’s say 3 330 so calling it 3:30 that means they had a 4our keep the secret yeah uh and then they end up announcing which you knew they wanted to parade him out which was great all of that played out a great moment for the fans yeah I mean when came out got a huge Ovation they were chanting his name they were and then Here Comes D rozan and that was that was really cool old uh the old Vester Rony he’s all in on that now yesterday he was seen at the game I didn’t see him but I didn’t I saw a picture of him he was not in the vest really if those pictures were from yesterday I believe they were maybe like when he’s really deep in negotiation gives him the dramatic moment where he end Zips it just pulls the vest off but I mean it’s vest and long sleeve shirt and that day I mean I don’t know was it 113 111 it was hot and you’re going it’s com able in the arena I can see it if you want but everybody’s in shorts and t-shirts and short shirt you know short sleeves by the way as we break just to go back I also think that they coordinated that to H I don’t think it’s a coincidence that it happened like five minutes after the news broke like they were waiting for the woes and Shan for the everybody to break which again how cool would it have been if the news broke by him walking on the court moing out is your newest well yeah cuz that was the thing everybody knew he was and it’s like well he’s here but I mean is he leaving and then sign you know going to meet with another team or is just like is it done like what’s going on yeah no that’s the thing they’re not and I had said that I think around 11: a like I’ve seen enough here they’re they’re not doing this if they’re not going to do a deal unless he fails a medical or something Barnes you know say what you want about the shortcomings last year and they definitely upgraded no doubt about it but also a guy that played in all 82 games very reliable and and and whereas Demar D rozan is better at it uh Harrison was often the guy that when the other teams on their 13-2 run would get fouled and go to the line uh Harrison was fantastic uh in that game versus the Warriors last year opening night last year as well um you know he’s gonna be he’s gonna be missed um and I wish him well you know he’s going back to Texas and now he gets to play alongside Chris yeah Victor wanyama what they’re doing right now is so incredibly smart too surrounding wanyama with veterans guys that are going to teach him the the ways of the world in the NBA for sure I can think of uh say what you want about Chris Paul he’s vet a Savvy I think about you know two Savvy guys like that surrounding Victor wanyama and now they’re gonna go out next year with a starting lineup Jason a Chris Paul Devin vassel or vasel keep saying that Harrison Barnes Jeremy soan and Victor wanyama Stefan Castle perhaps coming off the bench with Kell Johnson and Zack Collins I’ll say it again um he that Spurs team is going to compete for a play yeah I I think what the to me my thought on the Spurs that’s going to be next year is I don’t think they’ll be a top 10 I don’t but we’ll wait and see but I think they’re also the team that when the year ends and if someone is a seed that they’re not happy with or someone missed they go man we lost three times to the Spurs you know like New Orleans literally almost kept well they did keep the Kings out so like there could be a team where maybe they felt they should have been the one seed and they fell to four because of multiple losses to the Spurs I I could see that being that team and I think what the Spurs are doing is smart for multiple reasons not only what you just said about adding kind of the grown-up veteran leaders in Chris Paul and and Harrison Barnes but also the other part about that they could kind of get the boost a of those guys and what they mean to them but they’re also friendly contracts still like I could pict your next deadline they move Chris Paul for a team that needs to Harrison Barnes and it’s like they kind of got the benefit went through a camp these guys helped them all grow up and it’s like now let’s turn them into even something else and that’s what he’s doing Harrison Barnes in addition I don’t want to insult his his playing which uh he’s he’s obviously good enough to start in the NBA but it’s like he came to S he came to Sacramento right around the same point for this team he’s going to San Antonio young team needs mentoring um and and it really is you know good for him um and and and like we talked about um he uh he’ll get a great Ovation back wonderful Ovation yeah he had a couple game winners here like I said here during Co yeah sorry hold on my bad go ahead um here’s some of the final numbers that I was looking up for Harrison Barnes so he’ll finish uh in the sack era 14.7 points per game while he was here started the three all 399 games that he played as a king uh he’ll finish ninth in points eighth in free throws made and six in made threes in sa era that’s a number of top 10 finishes yep he’s a good guy great guy and here’s his little not all this will play out for radio but here’s his little uh video he put out ever since I steep foot in Sacramento the fans have been unbelievably suppored they show love every step of the way every loss every heartbreak the season that the kings make the playoff is one that people remember for a very long time the Sacramento Kings are going to the playoffs and so to be a part of that after putting in almost five years of work to get to that they on with uh oh was with Jason I thought you were I stalling like no no no no no I thought he was going somewhere else and then I was like he wouldn’t go there so no uh yeah so you I I I’ll never forget I thought you three I I objected not and had nothing to do with du Mo I loved it was just um you guys had a great thing going to midday should have stayed there uh that show should have stayed intact I thought and then and and then that eventually um well we know what happened there and then yeah and then Katie and Nate moved back into middays that was fun wasn’t um or was it Matt with you Matt George or was you I know he was a Bard op for a while but I I think he I think he W but I mentioned J Mars and C J yeah I mentioned J Mars yeah so Matt for sure then I think to Kyle yeah uh Kyle and Jay yeah well because it was Katie and Nate and then that became Kyle and then Kyle and Jay Kyle and I think Kyle and Jay was probably my the probably the second best iteration of the mornings other than the one we have right now which is my favorite I’m not just saying that no it really is um no this one is and that nothing that’s no offense that is no offense to any of the previous Folks at all it’s just I’ve said it before publicly and privately I’m a nut job and I am high and low and emotional and and off my rocker a lot of times and you loco man and you are the through line that off if we agree here I think there’s four certain uh fox D rozan Keegan spones correct okay if you h i i I’m just doing if I have to bet and even if it’s just a 3% greater chance in my head than the second one because I think there’s definitely some room here but I’m gonna guess right now if you put a gun to my head Fox monk D rozan Keegan sabonis do you if you had to guess a starting five would you differ from that and I’m assuming with monk say the F say what it was Fox monk d rozan yeah hean sabonis yeah that’s where I mean I I’m not I don’t even know where to land there for sure on that other because I think part of the you know we’ve talked about the roster being a little imbalanced I I don’t think it’s a crazy argument to say that if that is the starting lineup you could in theory maybe have three guys out of position yeah I mean sabonis I like him at the five there’s some that think he should be a four but I personally like him at the five one of them uh Keegan there’s playing the four he might be a three D rozan might best be suited as a two though he’s played two three four agree so you could be I mean again position list I don’t know whether it matters it’s who you guard you said that to Chuck sworski yeah um but you could make that argument maybe three of the guys are out of position you know right but that’s the way the roster is set up today so I to me I guess the candidates would be we already said fox D rozan monk sabonis not monk excuse me Murray sabonis then it’s monk Ellis or herder I would say is the way the roster is constructed today as your candidates to start it to then you have a bench of Ellis herder mlin I’m assuming Mason Jones maybe Carter for sure when Carter Alex Len ly ly thank you I know forgetting somebody technically McDaniel so I mean again it feels like front Court needs to to be addressed and again front Court could be a guy that they just had to the bench right or it could conceivably be someone that puts a starter in there and then maybe takes monk out slides to Rosen down and then that seems a little bit more balanced to me so here’s the thing that I keep having tickle the back of my head because this is likely the only time this is likely the second time the Kings have ever been in this position since they’ve been in Sacramento in what position is that I I always have to make sure things aren’t taken out of context and I always have to do a a disclaimer I would not necessarily support this and I don’t think they’re going to do it but Jason when you have Fox monk D rozan and sabonis to go along with Keegan maray the kings are in a position right now where they actually have the assets to where they could make a move in which National media would say they’re making a legitimate run for an NBA championship and what I mean by that is this again not advocating it so calm down but they have ke they could conceivably offer up Keegan muray and three or four first round draft picks as a trade chip and get about anybody and get about any I mean about anyone not if they identified a player like this is the move this is the move I think they could do it and if you’re asking well could they get Lori Markin in with that yeah yeah guarantee you they would get Lori Markin in for less than that they of course and I’m not talking about Markin in or Ingram either and I don’t know who the hell I’m talking about but I’m saying you know I gotta look here because I’m trying to think of like odds are would be power forwards and centers is is who they’d be going after do you grab a center and move sabonis to the four I’m talking like an not an Emer yic Center but you know and probably any Center in the league outside of embiid jic and adabo they’d at least like the only one I’m thinking that maybe would say no would be Memphis with jiren Jackson Jr but I’m not I mean know they have Zach Ed I don’t know um or or a um or a power forward and you add that in it’s like okay is this it is this where they because D rozen’s 30 going to be 35 August 7th is this where they make the move um is is you know they’re not getting Giannis uh I don’t think again I’m just if you just tuned in just doing this for funsies the Imagine here is is Keegan Murray and three or four first round picks what can they get out of that they’re not getting Giannis Keegan Murray and four first rounders for Anthony Davis I mean yeah I don’t think they have I mean I would hope they wouldn’t have to give up all that but maybe you think they can I think the Lakers would have to listen to that probably that and two first rounders I would say somewhere in there for Zion if he was available and I look my point is this I won’t spend too much time on it because people are be like okay this is stupid why are we talking about this these are capable possible these are doable if not preferable moves again to where the kings are at this precipice where are they going to be one of the playoff teams or is this a team going for it right now now odds are there’s a very good chance by the way that Monty’s going to say ah let’s let’s we’re just pushing it Forward on the timeline we added D rozan we got better in a number of different ways we’re aware that we need to get better in other ways I need to see how these guys work together and that doesn’t prevent me from using draft capital or guys that we have right now at the trade deadline next summer we don’t have to do everything right now but you don’t not have to do everything right now so the question is this Jason before when you had a lineup of fox herder Barnes Keagan and simonis we’d always have this conversation what is the most upgradable part of the starting lineup and it was always you have tremendously upgradeable Parts in either Barnes or herder or both correct what’s the most upgradeable part of the starting lineup now um again it’s now back to it’s almost like moving the pieces around so it’s I still feel like it’s 234 but you did upgrade with the Rosen so he’s going to play one of those positions um you know I just feel like some of the things have moved here to me I think the the construction of the team right now here’s what I like I think sabonis maybe being the third or not option but third or fourth score on the team is great he still needs to be at the league leading rebounder up there and rebounding and and assists that’s awesome but now you’re not going heyy we need 20 plus from the guy if he gets that that’s awesome right but it needs to be D rozan and fox and some order there and then Murray hey we’ve always said this team needs a three and D guy I think that’s Murray I agree with you I think that’s what he has to become um doesn’t mean he can’t have a 35o night because he can but he also might have 12 but he’s going to be really important to this team defensively so I think the night of the trade uh at the classic one of the things I was thinking of is what is Devin Carter thinking today what is Keon Ellis thinking today what is Kevin herder thinking today because their minutes just got I mean they got taken a little bit in some way shape or form by this move and so and even monk to that extent look monk just signed the deal apparently he was part of the guys in the conversation with D rozan um he should be happy about adding more talent but it might compromise some of his minutes in some way shape or form I’m not saying it’s just going to be a little bit different here so um that’s why it still feels like something else needs to happen to clean up the back court a little bit you mean as far as a somebody going out yeah you know we always look at Denver I tend to at least and you and I had this conversation as the Quasi blueprint feel like I’m ready to say right now after uh a few years in the business uh in the league you we always talk about who’s the king is Aaron Gordon it’s Keegan but the problem is is that I think we too often want to compare Keegan Keegan Keegan Murray’s actually uh are Michael Porter Jr but I think he’s more comparable to Aaron Gordon and Aaron Gordon is as a matter of fact the uh the power forward for the Denver Nuggets he’s also they’re they’re both 68 the Nuggets can do it with jic on the front line who at best is as good a Defender as Damon simonis and I would say simonis is better or at least was better last year okay well if they’re truly following that blueprint and Murray is the dearon fox um and Keegan is the Aaron Gordon and sabonis is the diet version of Nicole yic the the the lesser of the two did they just get close closer with Demar de rozan who is not their cavius Caldwell Pope no defensively but he’s better than him offensively better Porter offensively that’s exactly now he’s not tall like Porter kind of gives him that additional length right he’s taller than Gordon and that’s the that’s the issue that’s why I keep going back to I just don’t know if they’re done it just it it it seems to me like they know they’ve got to add another another four slash Five well you know let’s let’s even go back to the better part of the last year or so when we’ve been having these discussions like well probably Barnes or herder are on the Move ah nobody wants these guys well you got a six-time Allstar with some other pieces for Harrison Barnes yeah well for Harrison Barnes I I I don’t care about the second round picks I don’t care about Chris dwarte I will insist on throwing in the 2031 unprotected but yes I mean player for player just say yeah beforehand would you have thought you could get Demar de R rozan for a 2031 first round pick in Harrison Barnes no yeah I didn’t think so no but there is another factor in that conversation we have to have as well which is you know we’re talking about what we gave up we also gave up $25 million a year now I’m not saying that in a bad way I’m just saying fact of the matter is that’s a $25 million roster spot that we’re giving to a guy who’s 35 36 and 37 years old doesn’t bother me as much as other people though because of his durability right and I think it’s more of the AG that’s the thing I think I’ve had the hardest time understanding with free agency has been um some of the inequities with contracts for example like right we talked about it last week but Valen chunis who was older but not old has been proven not an All-Star but good three years 30 million total so 10 per and then a guy like hartenstein who had a really good season but it’s getting $30 million like right he’s getting paid more than d rozan he’s good he’s gonna help them yeah but I think that’s what they had to pay to get him I guess and good for him you know it’s interesting sorry as we go to break when you look at Jason when you look at Keegan Murray and Aaron Gord it’s actually kind of scary the comparison and really how close and even they both are and what really gets me is when we’re talking about defense you know that maybe that’s the big thing for Aon Gordon over Keegan Murray when you look at last season uh they both had the exact same amount of defensive wind shares at 2.6 the exact the exact same so maybe that is our guy and which is also why you don’t trade Keegan Murray who’s by the way Aaron Gordon is not on a rookie deal Keegan Murray is 100% on a rookie deal uh very interesting we’ll take a break so are they done should they’re going to keep uh they’re they’re going to start monk or you think they’ll keep him on the I I it’s we were talking about in the last segment is I I I’m just based on the fact he came back he wants to start it’s not like it would it’s not like it’s outlandish to start him anyways um he obviously you know I don’t think he wants to set up any issues or I just have a weird feeling they’re gonna start him but I I fully admit like Jason said there’s four guys that are gonna start fox D rozen Keegan and sabonis monst the one guy we’re both the most unsure about but I towards he would if you got kozma I think then monos I agree that would be my guess I agree with you I I just don’t know go ahead I would I would not be mad at you know it I feel like that you know monk six men of the year just coming off the bench it makes sense it’s it’s a nice little fire to have coming off the bench and I mean if you could get kman I mean I love herder but I just feel like he was kind of underwhelming last year and then injury I mean injuries happened but you know it’s just he it doesn’t seem like the same guy no I I look I agree and I don’t know if that’s the injury or not but he he was certainly not he certainly was not the same guy uh after that Three-Point Contest yeah so I think herder if he wasn’t dangled before will be a guy that I think would be coveted herder’s still a good player sizewise 67 shooting guard can shoot it the right offense uh contracts favorable um I’m sure the kings are thinking about or talking about maybe a kosma thing if it’s possible um I think again so let’s look at that move if they did that somehow I don’t know what it totally would cost them but if it’s herder involved with a pick or something like that or something else again I think it’s a really good offensive team uh it it it kind of balances you out size-wise better like I think then you go Fox at the One D rozan at the two Keegan at the three kma at the four zonis at the five that monks your six man coming off with Carter and Ellis mckin ly and Len yeah I think you got I think it’s a good team it’s a deep team Y and then it’s just you know you got some defensive questions but again I I don’t think every team has some flaws I mean I think Boston’s obviously the most complete team but other than that you can find boy who’s going to score when you need it who who’s G to stop people when you need it are they too big too small like nobody’s gonna be perfect and you’re going to keep working at filling in your weaknesses you’re also starting I mean I know it’s close with sa bonus but you’re basically starting for 20 plus Point scores yeah I mean you’re you’re four of your someone would get hit there yeah exactly it’s that’s not sustainable yeah I I I would look I think if they traded for kozma and you if let’s just look at it very simply if you trade bar effectively Barnes and herder out of your starting lineup for Demar D Ro and Kyle kusma you got better you did you got demonstrably better it’s just a matter of can they are they the types of players that can fit in the king’s system without disrupting or or dramatically changing it you got better in the starting lineup you have the Sixth Man of the Year or should be Sixth Man of the Year in in Malik monk you added through the draft there’s all that other stuff you got defensive guards you can bring off the Florida pester and Marcus Smart their way around if you will I I think that team ceiling Western Conference Finals that’s a hell of a ceiling it’s a great it’s a hell of a ceiling I don’t think a championship is their ceiling I don’t think that is a championship team maybe NBA maybe they they’re a Dallas and sneak in the NBA Finals one year and okay yeah we’d all take that but I’ll ask you Jason would you you know because everybody’s different if I told you that you had a choice between let’s just say making the kozma move adding that to D rozan and everybody else Fox is going to resign in a couple years and I will tell you that that that team would be a top five Western Conference team for the next six years and in those six years there would be two Western Conference Finals births one NBA finals birth and then the end of those six years that’s when the sabonis fox you know thing breaks up but I guaranteed you they would not win a championship would you be in favor of that M yes okay yeah easily yeah because I I mean the guarantee is the part like if you told me whatever they do this move and they’re guaranteed a title of course I’m picking that but I don’t know what that is and how you could do it but that other thing sounds like they are a relevant team a great team there’ll be great moments I mean two trips to the Conference Finals and one of the two trips and one of the finals one more than they’ve ever had here and you know you’re not winning a final yeah that means Fox nor sabonis will win a finals here yeah okay yeah I would sign up for that for sure look we just came off a year where we were complaining about battling for the playin and how rough that was yeah all those other times would be great yeah because you also have the other thing which is that also guarantees you maybe not a championship but it guarantees you a lot of success in the next six years versus maybe not making the K move making some other move and then you suck right like it gives you a floor basically as well and that’s what I struggle with yeah I try not to be Championship or nothing I do want a champion I of course everybody wants one and and it is hard to not be title or bus sometimes well we talked about it earlier I mean again I think there’s a large number of teams in the west that are finals participant worthy it’s just who who’s it going to play out for right who’s going to get the breaks who’s going to have a non-injury year who’s going to have career years hold on a second I’m sorry our last caller that was sher’s kid that that Hudson like him he probably does go into the starting lineup and you Shuffle things around great call from Hudson by the way yeah so I think that’s a route that Kings can go I think everybody would agree that they’re probably um need a boost in the front court now what if the Boost is is a different plan and it’s a bench guy which might be also part you know a uh I’ve seen people talk about Isaiah Stewart sadique Bay uh Doug mcder I don’t know just different names out there yeah um because I think they need a little bit more there but if it’s a someone like Trey lyes in a sense that will help you but it’s Off the Bench does it help you if that makes sense like if you’re still kind of guard heavy and starting lineup a little imbalanced yeah I because I don’t know that they’re definitely getting a starter if they look to make a move yeah I don’t I I just I honestly don’t know I obviously we’re talking about they lack size down low yeah uh they lack defense down low um because literally they could get another big man let’s just say someone like Alex Lyn is like yeah they got more but right but’s you’re not playing like they had javil mcke and Alex Lennon at one point you’re like H you’re just going to play one of them as a backup or they played ly and played smaller anyway I think that might end up being the move and and kind of like what we talked about if we look at the history of Monty McNair in that front office it’s all right let’s inch forward a little bit okay we got a little bit better here now we’re gonna get a little bit more better we still have all our draft Capital with the exception of the her pick you know we still have movable pieces you don’t have to move herder now no you don’t even have to move herder oh you don’t but in herder and those p you’ve got some you know you have salary plus you know things you can move around that are uh uh valuable and they and and to be honest I think this is also very fair they’re never going to say this but they’re probably thinking in that front office look we’re not winning a title this year so what’s wrong with seeing let’s take a look and see how this team does sometimes weak things that you think are weaknesses aren’t weaknesses once they all play together they figure it out oh you know what actually that’s not as bad as I thought and sometimes things you don’t expect to be strengths yeah become strength by the way to be fair sometimes things you don’t think are going to be weaknesses end up being a weakness and you see how it all plays out and then you go okay why would we want to spend all our Capital putting this team together when oh by the way there might be a problem that we need the tools to fix down the road and you want to wait until you have those tools to fix it yeah and I think you know the the thought of hey we’re not going to win a title this year that also needs to be fluid and my point being so two years ago when they kind of snuck up and all of a sudden we’re a three seed well a lot of times the Champions or the teams that get to the finals are three two or one seed doesn’t mean that’s given to you but the kings were in a position where a lot of things were favorable for them and and I don’t know that I thought they could have win a won a title but if everything kept going right why couldn’t they have been OKC last year was not a playoff team the year before right and then they were the one seed and if they felt like Hey we’re not a championship team this year again I like the Kusa move I would have tried to have done that during the year last year it’s like hey you’re the one seed take advantage of where you are right now and see if you can FastTrack this and sneak one out when maybe you’re ahead of your schedule so I think that’s something that needs to be fluid where if this year goes even better than you think hey then why can’t it be a kind of run type of year so I think that needs to be something that’s fluid well to your point okay see and this is where we always talk about not knowing what we don’t know OKC might have gone after Alex Caruso last year and and they couldn’t get him or the price is too high they just sat and waited s prusty and then finally got their guy there might be some of those folks that Monty’s looking at right now that the price a little too high they can’t get them but maybe the trade deadline maybe next year that’s when the The Bargain shop yeah what what’s the old saying and I don’t think this is an old saying I think I’m about to make it I’m about to make up a saying right now hold on you don’t want the store to announce once in a lifetime Bargains the day you don’t have any cash in your pocket right perfect saying perfect and maybe that’s what yeah on shirt maybe that’s what they’re doing they’re making sure that they’ve got money for when the Blue Light Special hits yeah and they’ve still got assets right and you’re right about Chicago in that sense maybe those players weren’t available or the asking price was too much because they were trying to get in as a playing team and so worried about that now they’re just like hey take our guys like they’re rebooting we good yeah but they were going for it to get in and see if we could do something they got in and not much happened and it’s not just take our guys when you look at the return they got for Caruso like you mentioned earlier and D rozan effectively uh uh they got a uh DTE and Giddy and then not really even that much draft help at all that that is a what does Monty always talk about a distressed team right that’s a distressed team that’s trying to do things and by the way maybe next year that distressed team if the owner can you know put down his whatever he’s on maybe that distressed team is Phoenix yeah and maybe that’s that that next player abut and maybe there’s you don’t have to spend the toughest thing in the world for undisciplined people will go back to the money in the store thing the toughest thing for undisciplined people to do is to keep the money in their pocket and walk out of the store with nothing and wait for the stock to restock and and that may just end up being what’s going on right now get a lot of questions today and I I I probably about nine of them so and and they all center around Walker Kessler and the idea I guess on that would be acquire Walker Kessler the assumption would be to start him at the five and put sabonis in the four I love Walker Kessler I think Kessler’s is already a Fant he’s not a superstar but he’s a guy that’s gonna get you you know 12 points 10 boards and three blocks a game and play tremendous defense he’s a shot alterer um I think I think at this point Kessler is not the guy you’d acquire to move sa bonus to the four they just shoot way too much of the same direr you’re definitely getting your defensive anchor but it’s going to bog down your offense and they’re going to steal rebounds from each other you’re just you’re not going to get the best of Walker castler because of sabonis and he’s going to take away some of sabonis as sabonis if you will right if we were GNA do something like that I still think a guy like Brook Lopez and and I’m not saying Carl Anthony towns what I’m saying is a brook Lope LZ Carl Anthony towns type that they’re big and they can stretch that’s odds are who you’re playing with Damonte sabonis I’d love to see if they could get I’d really love to see if they could get Brook Lopez I I i’ I think a a a fox D rozan Murray sabonis Brook Lopez starting five and you have Malik monk as your Sixth Man along with the rest of that I’d really love to see what a team like that can do considering Lopez is deadly from three it’s going to give you two and a half blocks a game yeah you’ve now and I you talk about Lopez’s age I was thinking a lot about that over the weekend I haven’t seen the numbers but I guarantee you Lopez probably runs 20 miles less a season than Damonte sabonis because he’s playing three quarters Court he’s in the he’s in the paint on defense he’s outside the archon offense he’s running three quarters of a court each time so Monty’s got a lot of options that we can throw out yeah I just don’t think they want to put Dam montis at the four he might be right and maybe it’s as much of a concern with him defensively guarding some fours as well as um kind of limiting in superpowers as the five I don’t know I just don’t see them doing that maybe that’s where you look at a a lot of people throw out Bobby Porto’s name bu you just don’t feel like these guys are necessarily you’re talking about a championship caliber team in Milwaukee and those are two massive pieces to that they’re not Giannis but they’re pretty big pieces yeah can you find some of these things like the Sixers getting all that uh assets coming in they cut a guy like Paul Reed who served as a backup to him like that’s a name I think that should be talked about now how how often they use them but I I I just feel like to me the Kings need a few more six eight to seven foot guys and to your point about a guy like Paul Reed who who doesn’t peel the paint off the walls necessarily but what they need to be able to do is be switchable let’s be honest being smaller down low I’m not I’m not doing an endorsement here being smaller down low that’s not an issue against a lot of teams right there’s a lot of teams that are built the same way or even smaller you just want to have the ability that when you are facing a team that’s big you know Minnesota when you go up against Timber you want to have the ability to do something to adjust those minutes so hey maybe maybe you’re new 68 69 610 guy there’s some games he’s coming off the bench seventh eth playing 15 minutes there’s other games he’s the first guy off the bench or second guy off the bench and he’s playing 25 minutes a game you want you want that that that arrow in your quiver I guess yeah and you know we talked about when we talked to Chuck sori earlier the Bulls announced he like look we were they were playing um Caruso at four defensively he was guarding just bigger guys and so you know that’s what we’re hearing someone like Devin Carter when healthy can guard multiple positions you want people that can do that more than than not but um I still think there’s defensive concerns up in the front for the Kings we got a break here uh I’m just kind of running into uh but I’m gonna I’m gonna throw out a name I haven’t I haven’t heard talked about yet okay this is a guy that would fit into the the the uh the mid-level exemption they have okay uh he’s mid 20s uh 610 235 is and I’ll just give you his per 36 number you know he averaged uh I don’t know around 24 minutes but I’m you know as a backup big somebody to help out this guy per 36 averages 20 points uh 12 boards a little over a block a game on 58% shooting not that great from the free throw line 71% but he’s somebody that would fit in the mle he’s 25 years old 20 points 12 boards uh per 36 and his his overall averages last year for example a little over 13 points eight boards uh just under a block of game would that interest you I think I know who this is do we know this player we do intimately here in Sacramento honestly that name was mentioned the other day and they said that uh fitwise right now yeah I mean honestly right now yeah would the fit be bad let’s put it this way it wouldn’t be popular it wouldn’t be popular but it would be a lot better than it was and different expectations right much much different
