just in my head well we are looking for something from 9 to 12 no I don’t feel weird enough to not take it off but so you don’t feel that weird like I kind of feel weird for like you know reasons I just feel a little weird now I don’t know I don’t know where to go with that I just I feel un this is a new holiday I mean it’s not a new holiday it’s a new holiday that we get off what is it three years now third year second year third fourth I feel weird like all right well I mean I think it should be you know noticed and do you feel weird on any of the other holidays no feel no not at all but you know just Allan kind of got me yesterday when he came in and he was funny he he did though he was like I’m starting to play golf and everyone’s got all the tea times I’m like well yeah all of them every tea time is taken somehow I don’t believe that yeah you probably maybe at a course also why do we why do we have the drive guys [Music] Banner are we the drive guys did that change are we the drive guys what else was I going to ask you um what you want to come in tomorrow and do the show no okay I don’t want to do that then you don’t feel that bad and then uh we’re back Thursday yep and then I’ll be uh down south Friday with you yeah Dave doesn’t feel bad he just wants people to think that he feels that’s it’s virtue signal is what we call itth Chris um no like left my virtue signal on all the way here you know honestly you know what I you know what would be cool is I know we have a lot of people listening stuff like that I think maybe the way to because like you know that would be really virtue sck work you know the guy look at me I’m working I don’t know maybe there’s like a uh somebody listening right now maybe there’s something I can take the kids and go volunteer for or something I go do something go do something on the holiday meaningful you know something that I don’t know assuages this guilt I have which I you know in my own dumb head I’m sure um I want to run something by you guys uh it’s a good thing but uh let’s let’s talk Family Matters here uh um the show no although wonderful show Reginal V Johnson from Die Hard um didn’t see it didn’t see AUST I’ve seen you didn’t see Die Hard no saw Die Hard didn’t see Family Matters yeah I saw like I saw like a episode I’m with really yeah it’s just a different it’s gener like yeah it is yeah like I saw fresh prins see that confuses me then full house was kind of a yeah wait how did you see more Full House than Family Matter because my because I had a little sister that’s why and she got to control oh so she wasn’t in Family Matters H she wasn’t no not her not into the I mean I saw a couple there’s urle and there’s Reginal V Johnson and then the wife and then the son and then I think the sister is there a neighbor that looks over the fence that’s URL that was uh in Home Improvement home improv H yeah Wilson wil right right right um so last night very proud to say this I be a braggy dad here um Avery was off doing her school stuff and so the kid we have a deal with the kids they get straight A they get to pick a restaurant to go to and Avery’s was uh Sushi and Mason’s The Cheesecake Factory that’s every year oh look because I could get a lot of things they have a lot of stuff on the Vu for they got a book for a Vu yeah that’s e dude seriously then I get I get big piece of cheesecake it’s by the way $11 for a piece of cheesecake like what are we doing anyway that’s a whole different Don again oh man I’m out of cash right so you know happy to do it though good boy all that stuff and good boy yeah good boy and then so uh he had just come from they’re having summer practice for basketball and uh he’s gonna be sophomore this year he’s 15 practice or conditioning yes both really honestly they are strongly encouraged to parti participate in this it’s like voluntary it’s like OTAs that last I knew when I was school they couldn’t let us practice yeah yeah it’s like wording shoot around yeah exactly so he says you know Mason doesn’t get excited but I could tell like for him he was he says that the coach pulled him aside during practice and because last year he played on the JV team this year JV pulled him aside and said I just want you to know I’ve made the executive decision I don’t want you to even think about it anymore I’m pulling up to Varsity this year I’m play Varsity he’s a he’s going to be a sophomore so he’s gonna be a three-year Varsity guy nice that’s what I want to talk about so let me say first and foremost as a dad I am constantly petrified of the helicopter parent like I I will advise my children but ultimately a relationship between their te with their teachers and coaches is important and it’s their call like I I I will advise and consent but I’m not gonna I’m not like you gotta do so what I’m struggling with is like is he good enough to play varsity at that school yeah he is but he’s not I highly doubt he will start um he’ll be like a rotational player and no right totally I I Jason made like a what’s wrong with that signal for those of you not watching and and you’re right but my struggle is that for his development is he better off I I feel like he’s better off playing JV he’s a confidence guy his instinct is he loves to play defense he loves making his teammates better he sets a screen you know that’s him which you can’t teach I love that about him the problem is is that he it’s to the point where he feels sometimes like him shooting is selfish we’ve had to have a lot of talks about that but then he’ll get on some heater sometime and it’s like dude this is this is who you are you just have to build the confidence My worry is for his development on one hand going up to Varsity he’s going to be practicing against tougher players he that’s how you get better and it will probably pay off his Junior and Senior year I fully acknowledge that but on the other hand because confidence is the biggest skill he lacks I feel like he’d be better suited playing a year of JV you get called up at the end because the varsity season’s about two three weeks longer play a full season at JV start be the guy get your confidence up be it’d be the first time he’s really the true blue go-to guy on a basketball team do your thing and then you’ve got two years plus the end of this year of Varsity he got called up to Varsity last year for the two weeks and basically rode the bench got in a couple of games but just to experience so the coach is taking a vested interest in his development I love that and I’m not going to second guess the coach but I wanted to put that out there in the world for us it takes a village like I’m really struggling with that because I feel like it may slow his development as opposed to JV that’s my case I think go ahead oh I think the fact that his high the coach already called him up is a great sign so he’s doing that before this sophomore season even starts yep definitely interested he’s now gonna be familiar with that coach the rest of the players whether he gets a minute or a ton of minutes like he’s kind of arrived and I think that should give him the confidence already and then imagine junior or even senior year if he didn’t play junior year for whatever reason like he already like will feel like he I feel like he’s skipped a step which is an important one it’s almost like a red shirt yeah but I mean but it also there could be opportunities to play maybe he plays more maybe I mean like take each side of the spectrum he plays a lot more than you think yeah that would be huge he plays hardly any he’s practicing with them every day he’s already at that level and I don’t know I I think those habits that you’re a little bit worried about I don’t know that he’s going to be on JV going I’m going to score 25 you’re that’s not the player he is no now he might get that but I don’t think that’s his mentality it’s almost like um terrible comparison but like last year in the summer league when they told Keegan you can shoot a hundred times it doesn’t matter and he was super aggressive and like it’s almost like Mason probably needs that he’s very Keegan yeah he he has a lot of Keegan in him that same type of just what the hell are you personality CH this situation I was put in when I was in high school okay it is the exact same thing can come up and I was it me and two other guys and we were all told the same thing separately it was you’re we can’t have you come up you won’t get a lot of playing time if you stay in JV you’ll definitely you’ll be starting you’ll get a bunch of playing time two of the guys went Varsity I stayed in JV the next year one of them quit and the other guy I was playing more than so okay so you would lean JV that’s what I did my experience was I thought it was better for me to stay down to JV I think I can give you one more anot just I didn’t think about back to my high school when back when the it was in black and white right um no three5 yes there was a guy with a pole to get the ball out of the bucket do when did they inflate the ball uh yeah that was uh 2010 shortly after you left yeah um so my school is really good and we actually had freshman sophomore JV Bar City gotcha so we had four levels and I kind of went through the levels my junior year ended up getting called up but didn’t get to Varsity till my senior year okay so um but to be honest uh I didn’t really feel like I got confidence in basketball till I got to college okay I mean and I think it’s each individual personality too and I played at every level and played a lot but it just was like I don’t know I think it is individually I think the there’s another aspect to this too I should share and I mean this with all love and respect to everyone that goes to my kids schools but this is not El Camino Kennedy Maroma Rio uh Jesuit this is a small little charter school right that’s they’re very art Arts focused so this is the school that loses like 70 to2 in football now their basketball team is better but it’s not just who he’s playing with that look let me be honest there probably a little bit of like my my baby in me right now that’s like nervous for him and wants to protect him against the big giant seniors yeah but he it’s not just the people he’s playing with that he can hang with it’s then he’s going to be going up against you know some of these schools they play it’s like he’s just gonna get smashed didn’t he do fine in soccer he did he was on Varsity soccer last year and he did do fine as a freshman as a freshman yes I yeah you’re right no I I think he’s better at soccer than basketall but that’s me all right okay put on the football team sounds like they need help you know what so cool like I never really had to push that with him I I I didn’t I’ve always said you can do whatever you want I would recommend you don’t play football for this that this that this he’s just never had an interest played baseball for three years I like I asked him last night I was like you ever gonna go back to baseball like boring don’t like it soccer basketball it’s I’d rather focus on that I gotta give it to him it took me a lot longer to realize that I mean honestly I played my whole life I played till I was like 18 and then I was like you know honestly what should I have focus more on the other stuff I wonder how many kids are like that now like where they’re they’re losing our kids losing because it’s kind of like a ride of Passage right you play soccer and you play baseball growing up that’s what you do it starts with soccer and then you kind Lally and I wonder if is there that same thirst for baseball is when we were kids now that it’s in color we like hey sh man you know the old school black and white swings yes where they show like the video of the guy on his own just swinging like that did you see the video and they show the plate right you see the video recently of Babe Ruth showing his swing and the I think the C was like my ass he hit one 600 feet or whatever like he’s just out there like yeah see you do you do it like that yeah chopping what Rochester the longest running team in the NBA and they have one title one out of a hundred think the next 100 years will be better I hope so man if Sacramento wins 10 championships in a row there’ll still be seven behind the htics I’m okay with that do you I’d be fine with it hold on though do you think that like how many championships does it take to where you’re like H title or bust I we accept nothing else that’s not what we do here like three four the Warriors are in that now right yeah that they feel that way they should well or have they reset a little bit now because you think if they Gundy Kingo Van Gundy Jeff Van Gundy will be joining the Clippers Tyron Lou’s staff if you will as the lead assistant I like Jeff vany getting back in I was worried that he was going to get too far up there at some point and too far out he’s been out a long time he has uh he’s been out a while Rockets last uh he’s just he’s 62 he’s got you know he’s got plenty of time but he has not coached Jason how long has it been since Jeff Van gney was a coach 2008 uh 2006 2010 was that a bad adjustment it wasn’t a bad adjustment it was a hilarious adjustment because you said 2008 and you adjusted to 2006 2007 was the year he last coached the Houston uh Rockets uh the Knicks before that and uh he is back now and this is perfect get him back on the sideline get him re acclimated you know he’s still got a lot to offer him this guy 575 winning percentage 430 and 3:18 um well he had coached all that time and he was 45 40 huh did you say 62 yeah 62 yeah 17 years AG wow he was well you know the math that’s depressing he was younger than yeah no but he had coached a long time I don’t remember how many years with the Knicks and the rockets but he had coached quite a while uh he had and the only year he did not make the playoffs it was when he resigned with a 10- n record from the Knicks uh in 2001 won 2002 he made the playoffs every single year he was a head coach uh good to have Jeff van gendi back in the league good to have him on the sideline and that’s only uh uh good news for the Clippers okay number two three or three whatever they say they they said they don’t want me back contracts are the same who do you take auk or Debo I feel like I take auk age is a part of that age is a besides age though I think Debo can offer more as far as his versatility but I agree but age is [Music] [Music] the Carmichael Dave show with Jason Ross call or text at 916 339 1140 on sack toown Sports the Boston Celtics are your NBA a Champs convincing win last night I don’t know what happened in game four but certainly that was the outlier of the series Dallas played great in that one all they did was basically avoid the sweep but Boston was the better team all season long all series long and what they did yesterday and really I think throughout the series in season you know we talk about when teams win trying to do a copycat or what can your team do to assimilate what the Champs have just done and a lot of times it’s we’ve seen a generational player or a big three or something like that but Boston is just loaded with a lot of very good players and they did it collectively right I mean they were truly a team and it showed all the way through and I think Dallas just didn’t have enough of that same kind of team mentality I thought last night Boston maybe had its best defensive performance then they started to mix in some of their best offensive performances while doing that great defense and it just was inevitable just a matter of time and I think the way Boston ended up taking out like player by player was really cool that’s that’s how I was thinking I go the only drama left in the last four minutes is when do you take players out what kind of Ovation do they get and I actually thought they did it perfectly I thought taking Al Horford out first was great the longest the oldest player on the team had been a Celtic a couple times had the most playoff games played Without a title and certainly was very appreciative of the Boston fans then to bring Tatum and brown out together and then kind of the last two they took out together was holiday and Derek white but inside the game I mean little things that happened I mean Derek white how about that loose ball he went for man chip to tooth Chris do you did you see that play did was he also still wearing a mouthpiece uh I don’t remember because I thought he threw something to the side and it wasn’t his teeth but like I couldn’t tell if he had a mouthpiece on first but that play was brutal like when uh you know when they said he was bleeding and then they showed the replay it was one of those like oh I don’t think I want to see and then man face first while getting landed on that was brutal that was brutal but he said postgame look I’d lose all my teeth for a championship um he’ll get that all fixed and I know we’ll talk about this a little bit later but to me the only I guess I don’t even know of controversy but the only real thing I thought was maybe the most difficult for those that have to do this was the MVP voting I don’t look at this as anything controversial I don’t really think anybody got slided I mean there’s an argument to be made for Tatum I thought there was an argument to be made for Drew holiday and certainly an argument to be made for the guy who won the MVP and Jaylen brown but I think that’s the point I don’t think it was clear-cut and and again I don’t think anybody’s argument is wrong amongst those three I think that’s it I I wouldn’t have gone you know porzingis porzingis was really good in game one but um that to me was the debate and for Boston to do this probably on their home floor felt sweeter for them I don’t know again I don’t know what happened Dave to them in game four doesn’t really matter now but at this point I think the biggest surprise to me of the series to be honest with you I mean you and I both picked Boston and five not that that’s anything super heroic but there were a fair amount of people yesterday and I know this is kind of what you have to do on some of these hot take shows but the amount of people that thought Dallas like found like something legit like that could really transfer and maybe do the unthinkable I was surprised by like okay they won a game and they won it great they were great but like like I thought people were talking serious stuff like could they get another game absolutely but I’m like wait they’ve Lo it’s 3-1 yeah could they win another game sure but like I I was just surprised about the amount of people that thought wa maybe maybe here we go if Dallas wins this one then game six force a game you never know and I’m like okay but I don’t think they’re gonna win this one I think obviously a lot of it’s wishful thinking yeah and what we just watched right the most recent game that’s the thing it wasn’t a five-point win it was an absolute Annihilation and then I also think maybe a little bit of it too Jason subliminally subconsciously was what we’ve already seen in these playoffs like with Minnesota and Denver where Minnesota went in and just shellacked Denver Denver comes back wins those games in Minnesota and then everything set up for that game seven in Denver oh Denver’s got him oh well no they didn’t and Minnesota went in there and just destroyed them I think I think these playoffs have been very Topsy Turvy at times yeah it just Boston all along just seemed like I mean just on and then watch the better team they look I got some numbers for you okay we got a lot of stats to give you throughout the day so for the Celtics second team in the 16- win playoff era to only lose three playoff games they’re one of eight teams in NBA history to outscore teams by 10 or more for the regular season and the playoffs they’re 10.7 two scoring margins sixth best in NBA history seventh longest playoff win streak at 10 they never trailed in the playoff series 80 win year and when you put those 80 wins plus their 79% winning percentage that is the ninth in NBA history Jason by definition this is a top 10 all-time NBA team for for single season we’re not talking dynasties and talking about a single season this is a top 10 team in NBA history yeah and the way the NBA is constructed right now the way the game is played right now I feel like they’ve they’ve kind of cracked the co like there’s they’re not do they have a a true Center a power like they are blanketed with everybody can switch guard everybody everybody can shoot almost all of them can handle the ball like they’re top seven between Horford and porzingis whatever big you want to play there and then all of their perimeter guys uhhuh um and Horford’s the oldest one but the rest is in that sweet spot of you know holidays played a little bit more porzingis a little bit more but Tatum and brown and man it’s set up to be good whether or not this is the beginning of something really special or just one of those really good teams but they’re they’re set up they’re set up nicely sandwiched in between and I don’t think this is a sandwich you want to be the meat on but uh Carl Malone and John stock were the bread and Al Horford was the meat in the most playoff games without a championship sandwich you cross Al Horford off the list we’ll have to have a conversation a little bit later is Al Horford is he a hall of fame or not yes I feel like he is kind of has to be right two time College champ two time College champ at Florida and then everything he’s done here add in the title add in his his little individual accolades yeah allar many all appearances I don’t know what his overall you know where he is in rebounding all time and some of the other stats that help that but yeah we’ll get back to this at 730 uh I will I do want to preface uh what we’re going to talk about too amongst other things uh Jaylen Brown was the MVP what did you predict it or something no I I Jason Tatum got screwed you did predict it I think Tatum’s huh you did predict it that what that would win yeah oh I did well I did but I think Jason Tatum got screwed you I think his cringiness at the end [ __ ] that’s what I’m saying right did he cost himself the MVP with his come on no honestly with what it just okay somebody his kg impersonation like like right like somebody it’s social media is so TR so voters were waiting to look at that no you’re right but somebody did say yesterday I thought it was like Jason Tatum is trying to recre create every classic Championship moment in a picture like kissing the trophy LIF his kid everything that people said like isn’t it going to be funny when Tatum does this and then he did it we’re so we’re so Brown was like yeah non-emotional but here’s my thing I know we got a break if you lead your team in points rebounds and assists shouldn’t you win the MVP I get the defense is a huge part of it but it’s not like Jason was a Turn Style like he L his team in points and rebounds and assists how do you not win the MVP not that he didn’t get it wasn’t like a terrible boxing match where like the I’m not saying Jaylen Brown doesn’t have a case Drew holiday Drew would he have been yours I I said it between the three like I mean I really had no issue with any of them getting it did Drew holiday steal is like presidential election did he steal one of the Swing States and take the vote I don’t know I look we got a lot to get to I got I got energy for this one though I got energy for this conversation just like my friends in American energy have leeway and maybe this just you know you’re talking about a guy that regularly um when healthy is a 30 you can put 30 and 100 in the bank this year not so much 8 and 28 bat in 223 already in 70 games this gives them could this give them an opportunity to really Shuffle things around and put guys in that maybe aren’t making as much money but might actually be better for their lineup so with apologies to Anthony and with apologies for the injury I I feel like that’s safe yeah injury now and then he’s coming off of uh concussion last year that they say it’s kind of been what they think might Trace back to why he struggled this year who knows exactly why but he has struggled in a lineup that’s kind of feasting he’s the one weird weak link so yeah I think this has a chance to help him and maybe even him too just being away for a little bit and maybe when he does come back he’s he’s better off can I also just add in that how we just talk so casually about this usually it’s in football but like the idea when you think about it like oh he got a concussion last year and that might be hurting him a little this year like wait what you got a brain injury last year and it’s still affecting you oh my God stop playing and go to a like a vacation resort or something like I I feel like concussion isn’t enough like it’s too light like it should be called like a a brain Quake like something brain trauma right because that’s what it is and then what we’re like well only had a concussion last year it’s not like it’s an elbow 3.8 on the brain Quake scale right all right number two the Rangers might be getting both Max Scherzer and Jacob deg Grom back soon sa for out that would make them the the clear favorites in the na in the AL West did I say nlm no that was me oh okay um say fast risk if they’re anything like they were yeah if you’re getting Jacob deg Grom and Max Scherer as we know them and I get they’re both kind of you know up there in this world as far as age goes if you’re getting any part of them back that is and Jacob deg Grom it it is I I don’t know this may not be the best comp but when I think of Jacob deg Grom I think of Tim Lino like but but actually better when he’s pitching like when Jacob deg gram is healthy he’s arguably the most unhitable pitcher of the last 20 years like he’s stupid good he just can’t stay healthy and then sherer’s like your Workhorse the problem is is uh in De gr’s case he’s 35 and he can’t keep that arm healthy much like linam had those issues late sherer’s 39 years old I don’t know how much he’s got left now Justin verland are still doing things but either way it’s two very expensive arms that are mostly being paid for by the New York Mets that ain’t G to hurt the Rangers who already probably were the favorite anyways when it’s all said and done I know it’s going to be a dog fight with them and and and Seattle and never count out Houston but I I I think it gives him an edge yeah and you know if we’re just talking AL West right right it’s not the A’s it’s not the Angels um Houston I don’t know if they’re going to ever get it together but then it’s Seattle right so yeah they’re the Rangers of the defending champs I think they’ve got the talent to do it again so I would feel like if those two guys get to whatever close to form that they’ve been it does make them the team to be the Seattle Mariners currently have the seventh best record in the major leagues the Seattle Mariners have a nine game lead in the AL West now it wasn’t this big but I’ll take you back to last year it was somewhere around this time I said look my dark horse is Seattle they’re putting it all together and man did they fall apart late uh I’m I’m wondering if this is the year they’ve learned their lesson because that that lead nine games I don’t care if it’s June it’s pretty big number three real quick mookie bets is out six to eight weeks for the Dodgers safer out that’s actually good news for La I think it’s safe we were talking about that yesterday how long is he going to be out when you hear broken hand uh I think that’s great news for them six to eight weeks that brings him back sometime it all the way around I love it for the Clippers um I’m really look I have no love for the Clippers they’re an LA team but they’re also perennially crap and I hate the Lakers so part of the reason if I was to root for the Clippers to be successful is I love the idea of the combination of both the Celtics taking the title lead from the Lakers uh the Lakers not being very good and kind of stuck in limbo and then on top of that the in uh Dome next year opens down in La for the Clippers which actually looks pretty darn cool I really want to see that wall of fans yeah I’ve heard amazing things about that place yeah absolutely um so I I am I’m it’s like I’m not rooting actively for the clippers but I’d rather the Clippers be good than the Lakers just because it’ll piss a lot of people off uh and I love the idea of Van Gundy you know Tyron Lou is a good coach Jeff Van gundy’s a good coach having him come in to be a lead assistant and really re acclimate himself uh James Harden now is now the active leader uh in the NBA for playoff games without a title shockingly sure he won’t build on that one throughout his career uh but it’ll be good to see Van Gundy you know you got perhaps Paul George although we didn’t even talk about you caught the Joel embiid clip where he was kind of eyeing Paul George like we so sounds like Philly’s going to go after him but at the very least it sounds like uh I mean the Clippers have an opportunity here if if Paul George Goes uh also I think Harden’s on a he’s a potential free agent yeah he’s a potential free agent so it could be a different look Clippers uh but getting Van Gundy and there’re just gonna help yeah and I think there’s something to be said when you’ve got a guy that’s been a head coach that probably still should be a head coach is willing to take a lead assistant also the comfort in the head coach tyou going like I’m not I’m the coach and yeah I could be hiring my potential replacement but I’m comfortable right I I like when guys are comfortable enough in their own skin to go like okay i’ just rather add more quality talent to our bench also now that the season is over Jason uh there’s some new rules in place uh keep your ears up keep your ears up keep your eyes out whatever um the Sacramento Kings could announce today they’ve resigned Malik mon could they won’t right but they could maybe new rules now immediately once the finals are over allow for uh teams to negotiate with their own players that are free agents or conditional or whatever uh other teams are not able to I think it’s the 209th is it something like that free agent 30th right 30th yeah well and then when the doors are open it’s like oh the blah blah blah are signing it’s like oh no tampering huh yeah yeah right right yeah right as soon as it clicks to I think it’s I think it’s uh noon West Coast four year 180 wow you worked that out in 30 second that’s amazing yeah so but at this point like I I would assume the kings are going to do the most they can for Malik but if I’m Malik’s group I’d wait to see what offers are out there to be fair on that side too because people are like oh how can they get all the numbers worked out in that amount of time everyone knows what their numbers are going to be before you get into it right yeah especially when you’re dealing with max deals or whatever they know what’s going on agents are working the phones the the and and I I’ve I’ve gotten to see it from the the the inside a couple times where there’s a pretty you know each agency is different but there’s a pretty standard thing that happens like hey Jason uh you’re a free agent uh here’s the radio stations that want to sign you here’s a nice little print out uh kind of like in an Excel format but but very easy to see uh here’s the list of offers we have there’s five teams offering you whatever uh here’s what the total contract is and that’s in in green then in blue is what your take-home will be based on what city you’re playing in what state you’re playing in this is what your take-home pay will be and then underneath it is generally um endorsements other uh shoes what the shoe companies will offer for example we we’ve talked about this before Jason if you’re a Nike athlete and you’re playing in SA and you have an opportunity to go play in LA or New York or Chicago Nike is going to then adjust up or down if it’s reverse what what they’re going to augment your your deal uh and then you know generally an estimation of further endorsements if you’re here you should make this if you’re there you should make that and then there’s a total at the bottom take home plus endorsements blah blah blah so this so you know that’s it’s not just like uh you know uh hey hey uh Malik yeah so uh B A’s in with this deal and we got Philly crossing the line with this deal no it’s a very laid out sure paperwork lad thing you can look at all that so we may see some NBA moves Today Jason Ross that’d be great let’s get it going let’s get it going get him talking we also have the draft coming up here shortly and the Kings continue to work out players and yesterday amongst other players coming in guy that uh pretty hard to sneak in being that he is 7 foot4 uh Zach Edie was in town working out for your Sacramento Kings the two-time defending NCAA player of the year now to be clear the Kings have worked out I don’t know at least probably 30 40 guys doesn’t mean that you know that this doesn’t mean anything MH but let’s have some fun for what if I almost want them to take Zack Edy because I don’t really know any of these other guys and it’s like the upside with him there and you’re drafted number 13’s to screw it just go for it whatever but he also might be like uh slightly better symar I don’t know I don’t think he’s a lot better than simalar I think you’re right I I I truly think you’re right yeah I mean he had a decorated college career we know that doesn’t always translate into the NBA but I think to me Zack Ed is the classic case I saw some people you know commenting about the Kings having him like oh but how is he going to do in the pick and roll the people are just going to set uh you know get him out on the perimeter and try to you know um take advantage maybe of his lack of uh speed side to side I’m like okay again we go right to the negatives right um he’s gonna be able to rebound for sure I think he’s gonna be able to protect the paint for sure he’s going to be able to score around the rim for sure so there’s plenty of positives it’s just to me the question is the fit for the Kings um they don’t generally play two bigs together sabonis is going to be primarily on the floor we haven’t seen like sabonis and Len or sabonis and McGee or sabonis and whoever over over the time he’s been here um but could he be a guy behind sabonis then in that case or as time develops maybe he he does become a guy you play uh with sabonis but um I think they really should look at him weigh all the options and see if that’s the best player they believe at 13 the difference in size between Zach Ed and damont sabonis is exactly six inches which is significant which is significant when you it’s significant when you consider uh the difference between let’s see uh Davon Mitchell and uh Harrison Barnes nah that’s eight inches excuse me um it’s a big difference yeah and I am haunted by the fact that I was once told this is over a year ago that the Grand Vision for the Sacramento Kings is that Damonte sabonis is a four that they ultimately want to put him at the four they want to put him at the four and they want to be able to go with a line of Keegan Murray Damonte sabonis and Center X which is why guy like Ed to me is intriguing which is why when there’s a guy like Clint capella out there I look not necessarily I’m not I’m not pushing this as the right move and I think ultimately if you’re GNA have a five in there with sabonis one of two things has to happen either it has to be a stretch five there aren’t a lot of stretch fives out there and and by the way Miles Turner was a stretch five or or or and this is the one I think is probably the more likely is that Damonte sabonis has to become a stretch four and he has to he has to go Brook Lopez style and if I’m sabonis and if I’m the Kings all summer I’m like don’t work on anything heal your body up get healthy get the bruises to go away all we’re doing is three-pointers that’s all we’re doing we’re just doing threes that’s it because next year you’re taking 53p pointers or 100 three whatever it is because if sabonis now all a if sabonis can become a stretch let’s say for example whether it’s Edy or somebody else if you have a true true blue Big Boy Center in there and sabonis becomes a Str and he can still run the offense obviously it’s probably easier for him to run the offense if he’s a stretch if he’s hitting elbow jumpers and threes all day long that opens up a whole new world for this offense it’s a big if yeah it’s a big if because to me a lot of what this offense has been is spacing floor spacing and part of the way you get floor spacing is by literally putting people out on the perimeter and then letting people like dearen take people off the dribble or sabonis with Cutters so that’s the part of the question I I wonder about the fit of Ed I think Ed will come in and play and be fine on whatever team he’s on but does he fit the style of what the team wants or do you tweak it can you have two versions of your offense let’s say hey like Ed’s in we’re going to do it a little differently that those are those are questions that the front office has to weigh and it’s you know look I don’t want to poo poo the number 13 pick a lot of really good players picked at and after 13 it’s not you just want to waste it if Ed’s not the guy Ed is not the guy but I I do think before okay let me say this before a game is played next year is Zach Edy the most intriguing player in the draft is there a player that next year regardless of where Ed’s drafted is there a player in this draft that you go I want to see I want to see what this guy can do on the floor I mean there’s no one that’s got the hype of like web Yama from a year ago and even scoot Henderson to that like at this point like right really talking about him a lot too we talked earlier about the quote we always pull from the one draft scout that uh Alex SAR and uh you know Rob Dillingham and those guys at the top would be graded out last year at best an8 to1 pick that’s how it’s a different draft it’s a different draft and and look obvious the there are overwhelming odds that there will be multiple players in this draft far better than a guy like Zack Edy that’s just the odds I just can’t can’t think of anyone I’m more intrigued by because I truly don’t know with eting I don’t know man I I instinctively I want to say Luca Garza Tyler hansboro Christian leer Cherokee Parks you know Shawn may the list of these NCAA studs that got the same Awards it done translate on the other hand I’m like 74 with hands 74 with pretty good hand eye coordination and the ability to not just block shots and rebound because he’s a big Goliath but that this guy was scoring and not just scoring and D he wasn’t shacking it Zack Edy had moves yeah and kind of I mean look if we do past Trends Fitz Amman like he’s been around in college developed as matured right I would say could play day one like if you’re drafting at 13 normally on a normal like pretty high level draft you’re probably trying to find a guy that potentially could be a starter to me at 13 I think the Kings need to be drafting someone this year that’s in the rotation yeah I agree with you Zack would be in the rot in my opinion would be in don’t all time they never trailed in a playoff series and here’s really where it to me uh lands it 81 wins and a 79% win percentage that’s ninth in NBA history by definition you go we by the way NBA record those games now maybe they lost one in there right and people below 20 point leads but that shows you the dominance consistently building 20po leads in half of their games they did it in the playoffs they did it last night um again I think where we get caught up in well they don’t have uh you know if we look the past couple of Champions don’t have Steph they don’t have LeBron they don’t have uh KD Kawai uh joic no but they have a really balanced team Tatum and brown are great holiday and white fit perfectly porzingis like just it’s great team well coached top five offense top five defense great home court win win basically every game on the road until the Dallas game four like they won everywhere anywhere they’re great and when we think about them I don’t know when I think about them I I I weirdly Fe I think about their defense first um what did Dallas get last night 80 something points so they just had the one game where they figured it out and scored over 100 to me it still felt like Boston gave up for whatever reason G four but I mean Dallas played great I don’t want to diminish that but they were locked in yesterday and they weren’t going to lose that game so the fact that we think about the defense both of us here’s something that I found really interesting one more stat the Boston Celtics scored 1.22 points per possession that is the best offensive Mark in NBA history nobody has ever scored that much per possession now look you got three pointers it’s a whole different because the kings were the number one offense of all time a year ago and then Boston just passed it so these guys to be that good defensively and are and and again by at least one Mark have the best offense in NBA history but now it’s all about can you do it again yeah question number two question two who is your favorite for next season I don’t want to overthink it it’s Boston just like Boston was the favorite this year they’re going to have to get injured or they’re going to have to suffer the whole sophomore slump Blues this team is set up this team is absolutely set up to be a dynasty are they going to be a Warriors Dynasty a Spurs Dynasty I don’t know but all signs point to the Boston Celtics sitting on this for a long long time Jaylen Brown is locked up 27 years old uh he just signed that big fat giant deal top seven are all signed uh the top seven are all signed well and Jason Tatum is now get this Jason he’s now eligible to sign a fiveyear $315 million contract this seems like a cash grab that would guarantee him 300 50 million over the next six seasons that’s almost that’s justy of 60 million a year gas Drew holiday’s 34 Al Horford’s 38 like they they ain’t getting any uh younger I get that but porzingis is 28 Brown’s 27 uh Jason Tatum is 26 Derek white is 29 neimi kadis 24 this is a dynasty that’s neimi kada yeah um plus we also can’t I think part of it we can’t ignore that two years ago they were in the finals and last year in the conference like it’s been happening it’s not like they just came on the scene so I think that’s part of the storytelling in this of them getting to the finals before and being one of the favorites last year so they’re they’re uh they’ve been underway and now they finally got the ring now they got to try to back it up number three question three if you’re Dallas what do you do this off you know not much I run it back yeah obviously Luca is coming back Kyrie’s coming back everything you know if you can maybe if you can upgrade if there’s something out there but I I don’t I don’t see a ton of I don’t see a ton of reasons why they lost the finals against Boston other than Boston was better so if you can add something to the equation let’s remember remember the Dallas Mavericks were three wins away from winning a world championship that that that’s the bottom line they were three wins from winning a championship so be careful what you do here because continuity is a big big deal and Brad Stevens has added around the edges but has kept his main guys together now for a minute so I think you got to be very careful if you’re Dallas here uh in what you tweak in the off season yeah I feel like a lot of it believe it or not kind of it might center around Luca I mean like some the little bit of flaws that are in his game if they got better I think his overall skill level um is gonna make them very very tough every year um but also we know they’re in the Uber competitive West and you know we’ve documented it many times like the West just kind of keeps shuffling through so I mean like could Dallas be you know they were the what five seed yeah so I mean they could finish second first eighth sixth like I think they could be just about anywhere in that tight West and then you go just did the matchups fall right or maybe they’re out in the first I just it’s really really tough but the other thing I would look about it if I was Dallas maybe like Chris Paul or just some like veteran backup behind Luca I could see maybe sure someone that’s like look I I I want to run at something else maybe I could help this team I’ve been around maybe just another ball handler but he’s so ball dominant I don’t know they got to find the right I’ve always said Klay Thompson would be a good player to play with L like Klay in his prime which was catch and shoot limited dribbles someone like that that could be effective scoring without needing the ball a lot I don’t know who that player is uh I think it’s 100% James Harden yeah I want Luca and Kyrie and James Harden all be on the same team fun one last note on Boston for this second here no I’m going to use that as a tease when we come back the the Celtics do win it all we’ve got some numbers for you including a stat that I’m back from work tomorrow because if not I’m GNA do something my dad used to do to me with lawn clippings I’m going to plant them in different places in your belongings and you’re not going to like it you’re going to scream and go crazy I’m telling you right now you’re not going to like it dude and I already know one of them I’m going to do like she’s going to this she’s going to this three-day camp tomorrow where she’s like a little camp counselor I’m gonna put one I’m gonna close her laptop on one of them so that it’s right on her freaking keyboard so she’s got to clean the I’m like I’m and the number 35 pick doesn’t that continue what’s that weird stat the streak that like the last eight Champions have someone from the Wizards on it is that right something like I didn’t know that contract really the only player in the rotation uh that’s a free agent is is Derrick Jones Jr what do you do Jason if you’re Nico Harrison yeah I I mean again I think you do your best to run it back a full season with PJ Washington and Gafford uh the development of lively certainly I I work on some of the things that I feel like Luca needs to work on um and then I think you know how aggressive do you want to be on that whatever you know getting into some of the Nuance of the cap but like the second apron and how much money do you want to owe but I think the one player that they could maybe move that could get them some flexibility would be someone like Tim Hardway Jr sure because he’s coming up on the final year of a deal and kind of fell out of the rotation also based on the year they had I could see someone saying you know what I’d sign there for the vener at minimum and so maybe you can get a good player that’s near the end that’s like hey look I’m a veteran I think I could play with that team and help them get over the top I don’t know who that player is but I think that’s when you win to the level that Dallas did you know you’re close and I think you’re an appealing team to Marie Morris that’s 3.1 coming off the books and Derek Jones that’s 2.7 so you got the better part of six million every everybody else there is signed so really it’s one of those um around the perimeter type of deals uh because on what the last pick in the draft Yeah so I mean they’re not getting a lot of done there either and you know what doesn’t get talked about enough that’s kind of unfortunate for the Mavericks everybody talks about the champion and how next year uh it’s even tougher because they’re gonna have a Target on their back um Dallas gon have a Target on their back too they’re the they’re the western conference champions everyone’s going to want to knock them off I I I as much I feel like Boston is going to for sure you know again always baring injury be in the mix next year and possibly starting a dynasty um and we always get a little out of control like we you know there was that conversation with the Nuggets too you know a lot of times you know you look at like Oklahoma City and you know whatever this was a these are two big Mar I think is the most stored franchise Boston I agree with you but I I think Nicks fan and Lakers fan like Nicks fan well because they always say the mea of basketball are you monkey bird they they always do that so okay the most storied franchise in basketball Bing and and Dallas which is a big market so this was wasn’t that and if I’ve heard one criticism constantly about these finals it’s like it just doesn’t feel big it just doesn’t feel I’m not passionate I’m not emotional about it and maybe that’s because Boston was so good I don’t know the question that I have tussled with probably more than anything in sports is though I don’t though I want parody though I want the small Market though I want all that’s always what I side with are are dynasties the best way to go are they the most look at look at the most watched team in every freaking game over the last 10 it’s the Warriors as much as I hate to say it Warriors Kings last year massive Warriors Kings playing one of the biggest watched games as much as I’d like to think it’s our Kings it didn’t hurt yeah it’s the Warriors so when we have six out of not the Lakers again or The Warriors again or nope uh look let’s get away from the obvious which would be the Sacramento Kings let’s just take them off the board to make it fair the obvious I’ll give you my three nominees okay and really there’s probably four nominees okay in no particular order number four the New York Knicks okay number three the LA Clippers okay number two the Minnesota Timberwolves yeah and the one that I think could be the most likely the Oklahoma City Thunder really oh I’m I’m All it on the thund I think they’re not that close to that you are a poop face isn’t this a series that you would hate then what like thunder and whoever you mean I don’t hate it I just if I’m being honest if it’s the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Celtics next year I can’t imagine I dad I’m worried that maybe he’d be better off playing JV next year so he gets more minutes he gets his confidence up and then he has two years of varsity to go uh Jason agrees with the coach Chris kind of agrees that he should stick to JV because he went through something similar uh yeah Chris you were pulled up early weren’t you no Oh I thought you were oh you I was offered and then I oh he was offered and then went to JV okay so my thing is this and it’s the coach in the it’s the coach in my son’s decision I’m not that Dad but I do want to have a conversation with the coach but from your point of view would it am I am I justified in being War or should I just trust the coach I think it depends on the sport basketball like if it’s football yeah right you’re 15 going up against 18 almost 19 year old look out but the same can be true in basketball because that’s a physical game my son was pulled up as a 15-year-old to play Varsity uh baseball so that’s a little bit different but I can tell you the first game he was in my wife is approaching the field and she’s crying I said what’s the problem this is a great day the other guys are so big right I’d be the guy crying not my wife my wife would be like suck it up as long as he’s okay taking his lumps because I’m gonna tell you right there are gonna be times when he’s gonna get beat down that’s right but your buddy Chris Weber always says what uh you can’t get better without playing against people that are better or something always play up that’s what that’s what I that’s what I said basically okay so I got to go do you’re in and I’m not saying it can’t be better for auk but it’s really good but why do we also I know we got a break it why do we also tend to look down on players especially in football where the average career is two years and your brains are coming out of your ears and I admit this about myself sometimes I have to stop myself I’m not judging but why do we look down on these guys for wanting the bag like if I don’t think anybody looks down on just situationally I don’t think it’s a is it a situation where the Niners are goingon to offer him the bag I don’t think they can offer him the bag
