hey guys it’s Michael welcome back to scratch Golf Academy today we’re going to be talking about how to eliminate flipping your hands through impact going to give you a couple things to think about let’s get right into it so flipping the club through impact can cause a number of different things the main thing is you’re losing a lot of distance cuz you’re not properly compressing it flipping the ball flipping the club rather looks something like this where you’re getting here and you’re getting stuck behind here then right about at this position you’re throwing hands at it and you’re almost in this position through impact where the shaft is behind the club head and therefore you’re losing a lot of distance and a lot of power so something like this would look like a flip maybe a little weak shot out to the right it is kind of playable but you’re losing a lot of distance out in the course so first let’s talk about what is the ideal impact position because that’s what we’re mainly trying to fix and correct in the swing so a great impact position is where we are one chest is down two mainly the shaft here is in front of the club head our arms are in a great straight position especially our left arm here right arm can be a little bit bent and two and three our front hand our lead hand is pointed more towards the target therefore the face is staying square and we can come all the way through so that’s a lot but let’s let’s break it down for a second so what I want you to feel is first we’re going to hit a few punch shots like this where we get to the top pause for a second and come through and I really want you to feel like the end of your Club is going in front of your front leg like this and you can just hit a couple punch shots right imagine you’re in the trees just trying to hit punch out to the Fairway here pause and come out in front do that a couple of times to get used to that compression feeling right so that’s really what we’re going for and feeling like the end of the club here is staying out in front and you’re continuing to hold that off so do one more here and it’s okay if you feel pretty straight arms just for this drill get to the top pause for a second really feel like you’re going to keep that butt of the club moving through the ball staying out in front just like that so after you get that sort of feeling through the swing we are going to try to transition that into our full swing but the other thing I want you to think about here is think about the logo on your glove hand on your on your front hand right if the logo through impact is pointed Towards the Sky that’s not good that means the club face is open it means that you’re almost flipping through like this and watch how that logo is now pointed Towards the Sky what I want you to think about is this logo on the swing pointed towards your target feel like that staying down and pointing towards your target it should really help you out so do a punch shot swing no pause this time but feel that logo stay down even towards the ground if not towards the target okay so just like this something like that right the other thing you can do let me grab an alignment stick one sec so if you have an alignment stick like this you can hold it so it runs down the side of your club and watch this if you flip the club here you’re going to get whacked in the side of the hip with the stick right so hold the stick on the end stay right here feel like that butt is staying out in front of you feel like the logo pointing towards the Target and come through you can hit a couple punch shots like this just here something like that after you do that a couple times then you can start to ramp up into your full swing so same exact thoughts as those punch shots and with the alignment stick feeling like the logo is staying down towards the ground the end of the club is staying out in front right and really limiting this flicking motion with your right arm so let’s let’s try that out so that was a pretty good swing there what’s going to help you is feeling like your hands are staying out in front of you like this left arm staying pretty straight club leading with the end of the club here staying down and coming through it might take you a little bit to get used to but the alignment stick drill is going to really help you out and think about the other things make sure to subscribe to scratch golf check out my stuff over on that golf grind I’ll see you guys out here next time [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music]
