all right we’ll get started we’d like to welcome the first two-time winner of the rocket mortgage classic Cam Davis into the interview Room cam congratulations uh just walk us through the emotions of your finish today and then getting the news uh when you’re standing on the third te that you picked up your second PJ tour win it was a a roller coaster of emotions at the end there honestly I I felt like I’d done a pretty good job of really not knowing where I stood on the leaderboard I felt like uh honestly so much of especially that back nine just moment after moment of could have been awesome but just didn’t quite happen I felt like it just wasn’t going to be my day so I was honestly very surprised that I was tied for the lead with the last group coming down 18 so thought well I guess I’ve been here before I’ve need to go get ready for another playoff so um and then you know when a missed that part you know it’s a combination of shock and feeling bad for him at the same time just realizing that the huge burden of trying to win again is off the shoulders and uh yeah still still in a little bit of shock it doesn’t really feel real right now you’ve made a big jump in the FedEx Cup standings up to number 40 and also a big jump in the President’s Cup standings for the international team how does this win uh change your goals for the rest of the season uh I um I I don’t really know if they have changed my goals it’s just really nice to know that I can get my hands on another trophy it’s um you know I’ve kind I missed the boat I guess I just missed the boat on the Olympic this wins come a little bit late for that big goal for the year but um yeah I’ve got two more big goals of uh you know finishing HP in the FedEx Cup and also trying to get in that President Cup team so I mean just to know that the good golf is in there and it’s well it was able to come out this week I want to just keep that rolling and uh I’ve still got plenty to play for this year all right we’ll take some questions out here if you have a question we’ll get a microphone to you we’ll start with Tony over here on the right heam Tony Paul Detroit News um you had a stretch of four or five holes where the putts were really good putts and just not falling you I mean how do you not get frustrated there how do you you know keep kind of moving forward there knowing that you still have a chance to win uh I was very frustrated I um I felt like there was a point where there’s nothing I can do um even honestly the the putts were very frustrating to see Miss it was almost more frustrating to see both of the 3ws that hit on 14 and 17 come up short I couldn’t hit either of them any better uh for that ball to roll back in the water on 14 when I finished on 18 I was already thinking back to that hole going geez I reckon if that ball stays up that’s uh is a very different um turnout to the event so um the fact that all of that didn’t go my way I felt like I left six or seven shots out there um just purely based on I felt like bad breaks um the greens are bumpy they’re hard to make putts on but um I felt like it was almost a spectacular round but it ended up just being enough other questions we got one over here on the left sorry can you just take the microphone please thank you yeah thank you Cam you’ve um you have two career victories both here you’ve doubled the money that you won both here and you mentioned right after the round today that your life has kind of changed in the last two weeks you’re in a whole different mindset how is that so I take us through that a little bit um I’m working with a hypnotherapist that I only just started working with it’s a just trying to take a different approach to um to try and get my head back in the right place I um yeah I honestly haven’t been in a very good place mentally at all for the last 6 months or so I felt like all of my opportunities have been slipping out of my hands as uh the year progresses without playing very good golf um I had a great week at the Masters and it feels like since then I’ve it all had just left me so I felt like a a change of Direction was definitely needed um something that I was actually going to stick to because I’m definitely someone that we’ll start doing something and if it doesn’t feel like it’s helping straight away it’s very easy to drop it but um you know sticking with the work that I’m doing with Grace has uh made a very big impact very quickly I felt a lot better last week even though the score didn’t show it and then um to have it turn into this this week is uh it’s hard to believe really because I was not in a good place two or three weeks ago we’ve got a question over here on the right fourth row D Ramsey with the Detroit Free Press cam you were able to make up and down on 17 and 18 uh can you just walk through those chips and pots on the uh final two holes of your tournament um both of the putts were pretty much identical they were dead straight four 5T straight up the hill um I guess I left both of those chips in the best place I could have possibly done um because if those are downhill they’re very very difficult um and then the chips um I felt like 17 actually wasn’t too difficult uh it end end up being a bit of an awkward stance but as long as I just got that ball to The Fringe it was going to Top Spin and roll out um honestly I felt like if I carried it to the spot that I was looking at I would have had a chance to go in but it came out a little soft and yeah but left me a perfect part and 18 is uh very similar chip I’ve been practicing in my warm-up every day so I felt like I was able to lean on some uh just I also didn’t have a lot of pressure on me because I didn’t know that I was tied for the lead um I had a feeling I was up there and I really wanted to get up and down but it wasn’t like my hands were shaking I was able to go through my process and hit a hit a decent shot but again left it in the perfect spot so the next part was uh not difficult got one in the back raise your hand please congrats cam I’m John mackar Detroit sports podcast Network I’m just curious now winning the event twice why do you think Detroit Golf Club suits your game uh honestly I I don’t know the first couple of years I played here I missed the cut and felt like this place just wasn’t for me um I love old school design you know done a Ross Golf Course is uh to me visually very fun um I love the greens I love the way the fairways um me through the tree lines and uh I love the shapes of the bunker bunkering but um for some reason I’ve never done well on a course like this before and I I don’t know what’s changed obviously my game plan worked really well in 2021 um I’m a different golfer and uh it was a different game plan and the weather was completely different but um I don’t know something about having to shape the ball around a bit you can be in the Fairway and still have to bend it around trees I feel like that’s something I’ve always been more comfortable with so um you know and also uh the only thing that has to be going well more than anything else is the driver off the tea here and for some reason yeah I’ve managed to get the ball in play quite well out here got a question over here on the left on the aisle hotm CBS Detroit um first thank you for sharing about the hypnotherapy and the changes you have made to that if you don’t mind touching on that I guess first where did you watch oay finish where were you watching from and how do you think if you were in this position two three weeks ago you would have handled this versus the changes you have made now and how helped you feel um I was hitting some balls on the third T box so I was about 120 yards away from where he was looking at a on a screen uh um funnily enough the the screen was flipped so I thought he was right of the flag which is a not a hard part it was straight up the hill so I thought he’s going to have a good chance to run this one in for the for the win and then I saw that he was setting up to the putt right-handed and realized he was left of the flag which is a very different putt so um so I was standing over there watching all that play out and um honestly I think when I have played well in the past obviously I’ve won here before I was in the same position I feel like when you’re playing well things are easy and so you don’t have to worry about the difference is making it making it that come after not seeing it happen for a long time is the part that’s very difficult so I think um I would have probably been a very similar head space had this been me three or four weeks ago before working with Grace but um but I think I’ve had to do so much work it’s a lot more rewarding I think to be in this position having to work through the depth of the the hole that I kind of dug myself we got one right in front of us with Larry you share some of the joy you feel of winning and yet the empathy for AE uh a lot of empathy um it worked out in my favor in 2011 as well I had that exact same putt to win the tournament it feels like that slidy little downhill Putt and the the greens are a little bumpy but you can’t hit it firm like I know what it feels like to see that putt miss when you know it’s to to win or get into a playoff but um um I mean he played so well as well I was ready for a playoff I was looking forward to a playoff I felt like um I didn’t even consider that he was going to miss that part let alone um missed the first part I was almost expecting him to roll that one in I you just have to expect it if you’re in that situation so a lot of empathy for that um it’s a very tough situation to be in for him um and for someone to be the benefactor of that is a bit of a weird situation to be in but um at the same time just so much relief because it has been a long time since I’ve uh come out on top so um I’m going to make sure I uh start enjoying it and really appreciating it you got another one over here on the left yeah go ahead yeah yeah cam you mentioned a few questions ago that you really like shaping shots here I was talking to Jack briefly on whole seven the first time you took the lead there was a big maple tree and a little accent thing on TV said you had to hit it 88 ft over the tree and you hit it 90 did you feel like you were swash buckling there to come down the Finish was you already feeling like that’s where you had to go um I’ve had that exact same shot maybe two or three times this week already it felt no different honestly I hit it thin so it came out low a lot lower than I wanted it to um I thought it was going to still be perfect but it did clip the top of the tree I think so um which is it worked out okay because I got the bunker shut up and down but um but no I mean honestly it’s just me working myself intoing to a head space where I do feel like I can start to be creative again I think I haven’t been in a place where I’ve felt the creativity come out of me because I’ve been trying so hard to not make mistakes so uh it’s kind of a nice combination of timing and golf course for me because I’m just starting to feel like I was working myself into a place where I could start getting some Sparks and Magic back into the golf and uh part of that is shaping shots so uh it worked well for me and the visuals out here make it even easier for that other questions for cam another one from Tony on the right cam when you won the first time in 2021 sometimes when a guy wins his first event it opens the floodgates a little bit I’m just curious where you thought that would take you and where your career as is at where you might have expected after you had that win I mean I wanted it to be the start of something special um I’m a few years down the track and really haven’t had another opportunity like a real got opportunity to to do it again so it’s been a very frustrating few years because see a lot of young guys coming out and winning multiple times and making it happen and uh to not be one of those guys it’s um especially is well now I’m almost 30 um there are guys out here 2122 that are doing things that I wish I was doing um and had done at their age so uh it’s been a frustrating position to be in um especially to see the game kind of trending in the wrong direction for a lot of that time but um to kind of pop out of the depths and do this again it kind of puts a little spark back into it I want to be out here I want to be winning tournaments um all these things that come with winning are so much fun because you know you’ve done something great and um to do it again it’s um it feels pretty special now we got a question in the way back right there cam I’m just wondering with the weather being much different today and the the winds gusting more was your game plan any different going into this round than it was maybe the first three when scoring was a little bit more easy um I still had the head space of a low round was needed um when I didn’t make anything happen on the back nine pretty much entire I played the back n even par I thought I’d lost the golf tournament because I hadn’t made three or four birdies so it was surprising to me that everyone else also struggled it was a difficult wind um the scoring holes were all into the wind and made difficult and the harder holes are hard to get birdies on anyway so the helping win helped a little bit but not much so I yeah personally was surprised no one within two or three shots of lead shot six or seven under and and raced ahead but um I’m also glad they didn’t because uh it made my grinding to under around with nothing really much happening just enough so other questions all right cam congratulations thank you very much for your time thank you thanks guys

  1. Sorry Yogi but Golf is 90% mental and the other half is physical. Cam it's okay to back into a win, just enjoy it and know you a fine player and if this is all there is in golf that's okay too.
