Akshay Bhatia after disappointing Rocket Mortgage finish: ‘it sucks’ | Golf Central | Golf Channel

given how the day went down how frustrating is that last putt sucks no other way to put it I mean just sucks when you look at the three consecutive top 25 finishes you have and the growth you’ve really seen recently it might be raw in the moment now but what do you think you’ll take away most from this weekend playing good golf um doing a lot of good things so just kind of get ready for the open and hopefully that I can put myself in position once again thanks for coming in first of all uh everyone’s going to focus on that putt but like when you just kind of look at like down the stretch what are the are the things that you’re kind of thinking about of you know if you learning lessons or or things that you would want to have done differently or anything like that just beyond like you know a short putt there were a lot of I’m sure moments that are going to stick with you uh yeah I mean I made a great par on uh 13 you know hit that tree off the te and man managed to make par that was a big momentum thing for me and hit a lot of good shots down the stretch um so yeah I mean I know how had to close a golf tournament I’ve done it before just today wasn’t my day the two putts on on 18 I guess the first one obviously came up a little bit short was it just slower or what’ you kind of see there how’ you yeah I mean it’s hard you got so much slope there so you don’t want want to run it 5 six feet by but I mean yeah just a little bit of nerves honestly it’s just I’m human and um yeah just you know the greens get slower throughout the day here PO is pretty tough and um so I guess what’s the mental shift from when you’re three days of it’s like you know go low and and and try to rack up birdies and things like that to a day like today which just seemed for everybody like more of it kind of grind it out you know what I mean yeah uh I don’t know I mean just try to focus on myself my goal today starting the uh back knes trying to get to 20 uh 21 under I like if I could do that I’d be in a good spot but obviously play a lot harder for for everyone great thank you thank two things here number one I agree with the sentiment thanks for coming in for answering the questions for being direct number two trip I love that answer about what about that putt it sucks there are no moral victories for this kid he didn’t come here to finish in the top five his last three finishes t16 at the US Open T5 at Travelers and now TC at this event but he doesn’t care he’s there to win golf tournaments I love that attitude I do too and that’s the DNA of Champions that’s what they have the other thing that he said he said yesterday that I thought was even more impressive and the reason why I thought he was going to win is he said I’m comfortable being uncomfortable all great Champions they they don’t mind being in uncomfortable situations he did refer to it in a different way today he said whatever it might be nerves cuz I was nervous you have to understand how to perform when you are nervous Jack Nicholas always talked about he loved being nervous on the first te of a tournament that meant it meant something to him he learned how to perform in that A’s 21 years old I mean he or or 22 years old he’s not going to do anything but learn from this experience and exactly what you said the DNA of Champions is I’m here to win I don’t like it when I don’t and I’m going to do something about it and that’s what oay does he’s got the game to do it he says I know how to close tournaments I’ve done it before I’m gonna do it again all those things are there and again hats off to him for coming in in a difficult moment and being honest and answering the questions that’s what we want to see out of our great Champions that that play this game and O’s got a long career ahead of him and he’s going to have a lot more wins and unfortunately in golf you lose more than you win but you learn so much more from the losses than you ever do the wins and it will pay dividends for AA batia going forward what happened today

the kid is still working his way onto the President's Cup team this year.
He will be a special player…game is all there.
he could be one of the best. awesome player and dude, God bless u all and him.
Absolutely love Akshay and hope he's around injury free for a long time. I'd definitely tee it up with him any time
Props to him for showing up and answering questions after a total bummer of a defeat. Really like this kid and excited to watch him continue to do well.
Yall think he sold? I think he was just nervous
Love Akshay. Rory take notes on how to handle a defeat from a 22 year old!
He has the look of a star. He is a colorful character. I hope he continues his great play for years
Man he blows dude. Had so much on him
Look at the different reactions: Rory was dejected because he choked and knew it. (BTW I’m a big Rory fan) Ashkay is pissed because he just pulled it and knows he blew it.
Min Woo Lee blew it too.
👍
Akshay’s name is going to be on the top of leaderboards for decades to come. Love his butter cut swing.
-18 for 61. +1 for last 11. Not a winner.
Class and he will bounce back!
You’re a great player Akshay. Better days to come.
Stand up guy brutally honest statements
Stand up dude he will win plenty.
3 putt on the last tough but he showed a lot of class. Will win again . RESPECT
Trying to make birdie? Easy
Trying to make par? Hard
I got meet him once. I couldn't tell you how nice of a person he truly is.
Love AB, such a good player. Only 22, this guy will win 5-6 majors in my opinion. Mature beyond his years and he faced the media after a disappointing finish.
If you look at his 2 wins , and his 2nd place in Puerto Rico ( which got him some status on this tour) they were on much different golf courses. They were easier courses for him. This course was playing hard on Sunday. He blew the approaches on the 2 par 5 holes coming in. He drove the ball well, but his 2nd shots hurt him. Look at the 2nd shot on 18. That is too far away from the hole. He is better on the less difficult courses. He needs to improve on greens that are tougher, etc. He's a good competitor. Just needs to get better.
Quickly becoming one of my favorites.
