A day before the Good Good Midwest Open at the Pete Dye Course at French Lick we met up with Paige Spiranac to see how low we could go.

dude Pete D was on some acid when he designed this golf course so I have a I have a confession yeah I think we could chip this in oh you did not wow all right folks welcome to Good Good Paige and I have made the switch how do you feel about it good good good good very good uh now we’re here at French L for the Midwest open this course is really tight off the tea which is not a strength of mine I can get a little wild with it yeah same but you’re handicapped currently you’re like what are you sitting on like two I’m a plus three handicap right now jez you and I are going to try to we we believe what like 10 under is going to win this thing tomorrow I believe so I mean there’s a lot of really good players here course is hard and it is going to be quite windy so we’ll see but I think yeah 10 ERS is probably a good score 10 under so today it’s just a practice round we’re going to play nine holes we’re going to see if we can shoot five under yeah and it’s a scramble yes bombs away first hole it is uh 465 yards right here cheat sheet as they call it okay yeah very good so you’re going to go off of the I’m going go off the white teas white cool yeah it’s a quite a long golf course I don’t think I have what 7500 in me yeah that’s a lot it’s a lot it’s a lot of yards um we’re going to go at that far bunker on the left side just right in front of me and I hit a little bit of a draw off the tea so hopefully with the wind it’ll kind of take that straight I think you and I are in the same exact spot a teammates is that the way it’s supposed to be so when was the last time we saw each other it was like I so I think it was the podcast yeah I think it was the podcast which was what like at the master yeah that’s insane yeah it was my first year at the Masters that was what 2016 yeah yeah which is years ago now you’re all famous and killing in the golf world I’m like a extra compared to you oh I see it we’re good in there yeah I got it we found it all right okay oh 128 the scramble begins what’s our what’s our order of play here uh that’s a great question I mean I’m pretty casual about it so do you feel like going or do you want me to go what do you think suits us up better oh yeah Rock fa scissors all right cool one one out of best just one or best out of three just one and go ready Rock Paper Scissors Shoot okay go starting off with an L that be enough that looks very good go what happened uh it’s a little short oh yeah cut come on wind cut come on wind cut that all that was all me all me bad number what happened I went long yeah you flew it I it was indeed not 13 34 it says 34 middle I might I might have hit it too hard it might have got a flyer it’s all muscles it might have got a flyer okay not a great start um didn’t hit the Fairway also didn’t hit the green but the great thing about golf is that you can chip in or you can you know make a long Putt and you have a birdie yeah we should take mine for sure I think we’ll do yours yeah okay I don’t feel like I hit that shot that badly um but we have a little bit of grass to go through right here to get onto the green when I have a shot like this I always like to putt it instead of chipping it because room for erir with a chip is so small and um I always say that a bad putt is so much better than a bad chip there’s a phrase about that I can’t remember it’s very complicated your worst chip is as good your best chip is as good as your worst putt I always say don’t let the ego get involved and take your putter I like that yeah yeah all right we can make this so there’s one thing about me is I can’t read green so maybe we should yeah we should read them together cuz I really thought it was going to go the other way and it did not inde do that well it helps to be putting second cuz then you can confirm whatever you thought a little slower too yeah come on let’s go a man that was a great putt though we’ll take a four hey it was a good bre yeah let’s go that’s just a big confidence boost you know thanks man I mean now Co you kind of after talking sh in the Fairway you kind have you kind have to make this putt oh it was in all day I’m one up what are you je nice three all right okay second at home yeah it’s going to cut a little bit right you got it baby you’re perfect big ball okay so it’s downwind Eric’s in the Fairway so I would normally lay up and hit like probably a fivewood but since he’s good I’m going to try to go for it over that bunker on the right side a little downwind it looks really tight it looks like this small yeah go nice ball oh nice kick I feel like one of the interesting things about you is like I I feel like a lot of people are new to golf yeah do you know what I mean yeah and you’re not no like you started playing golf when you were how old um so I actually started later than most uh who play competitively so I started when I was 12 I had the gymnastics background uh got injured one too many times and so uh got into the game of golf and I did Junior Golf uh D1 a year professionally and then decided that you know I wasn’t mentally tough enough to handle the grind out there but yeah I love the game and I’ve been in it and have played it at you know such a high level and have worked with so many amazing instructors and have been around so many amazing players and yeah um I mean this is the best job ever truly truly is if you can call it that right yeah I know I know there’s days where sometimes I’ll like complain about something to someone my friends and they’re like you literally have the best job in the world and I was like oh yeah so it’s nice to have friends and family that are so disconnected from what I do cuz it does keep you grounded and humble and I think it’s so easy to get so caught up in your world and when you step away from it you’re like this so far from from my reality this is just a fun thing that I get to do and I get to share with so many people but this isn’t actually like my truth yeah exactly do you want to play mine up there or do you want to play your oh right it’s a scramble yeah good idea super small green the pins all the way in the back uh off of kind of a sloping line 90 yard downwind I’m going to hit a 50° wedge it’s also like four people right there it’s a little daunting right now okay so let’s let’s trust it get up nice shot run all right okay the scramble is on oh boy hey we got a put at it we’re good we got yeah I mean this is like you’re carrying the team this is good oh thank you yeah so when I was a junior golfer they had it roped off to get to the range I had my bag on my back I’m 13 years old my mom steps on the Rope I go to step over it she let it go too soon and I face plant on the range in front of everyone and there’s like all these like boys around and I’m 13 freaking out embarrassing it was so embarrassing what do you think should I go first or should you go first did it work well I feel like last time worked well we almost made it yeah we give the order all right and then read wise yeah what what do you see it’s going to be like a cup on the left okay straight straight yeah it went straight did it go left no a little bit hair left all right you’re kind of like the um food tester you know it’s like yeah it goes pretty hard I I think it breaks pretty hard left okay let’s have I just figured I’d say a cup left with confidence yeah and then people believe it okay another par though ho hum par Oh What a Beautiful Day yeah golf dude it’s a hard golf course I forgot it’s like a third of a golf course that plays like a golf course and a half they took one golf course and just like just stretched out like a piece of bubble gum you know it’s hard it’s like a it looks like an executive course where it’s like they made it super narrow and they’re like well on top of that yeah we’ll just keep doubling it until it’s 8,000 yards and then go have fun it’s a championship executive course it is probably par 70 too these jerks all right he die yeah that’s good boom good swing boom I want to go back to pineur number two and redo that breaking Series so bad now that I figured out the big dog here you ever played pineur 2o no I haven’t get down there I know so good it’s on the bucket list for sure see you on the GoPro one of my favorite things about um the job if you want talking about is like getting to play courses where the pros play and then being able to watch it on television it makes like the majors everything have you played Augusta I haven’t played Augusta play austa yeah let me just easily go on and play AA I got lucky I shouldn’t have even played it I got lucky you know I got to played Pine Valley for the first time you did yes yeah I haven’t play Pine Valley which was oh my gosh absolutely incredible it’s it’s a masterpiece like every single hole I remember they’re so incredible from like the drive to the getting onto the green how how hard is it would you say cuz it’s like supposed to be very very hard it’s by far the hardest golf course I’ve ever played really mostly just visually it just totally messes you up you played Oakmont yeah I played Oakmont oakmont’s easier than Pine Valley yeah whoa yeah yeah all right we got a good drive over here on the right Pete die was on some acid when he designed this golf course nice shot right go fly o that was terrible that is a hard shot oh they’re all hard it’s like five Paces from the edge of the rough to the other side yeah I I’ve never played a golf course like this before yeah it’s like a roller coaster too this is absolutely crazy God look at this view man this is like crazy out here this is like some Terrence Malik you know how far do you think this is uh I think it’s like higher than it is wide does that make sense yeah I was more that felt long and that’s why we play Scramble folks yeah that’s so good go yeah let’s go we’re just in the flow you know like we’re the hole of the dut do we even need to putt that is that good oh dang that’s good one last shot you got it dang that’s a birdie that’s a birdie this this a part five yeah I just assumed that I’m picking this up like the Tin Man and Wizard of Oz over here it’s this thing where like the the more beautiful the course the more insane it makes you there’s other things like that in life come on we each hit equal amount of shots I know they were right after each other you know what I mean yeah and drove it we’re one under through three that’s fine dude we need just need to keep doing that and we need to get do it a little better little L stress oh God this is we got it guys we’re good we got four feet on the gas how you doing 194 nine fo right at him take him out that’s short come on yeah good swing it’s right on it get up yeah nice okay we’ll have a putt at it right nice shot yeah see I’m going to say it I feel like you want to yes you you don’t want to go longer than the half of the front half of the green yeah I’m going to be honest I don’t think you want to miss left or right yeah that’s also true that’s also true I just feel like we’re in the US Open right now I feel like we can get one back here another one you you think we we can make this okay we can make this do you want to in or out I actually do feel like it moves right to left you want me to go first or you want to go first um let me go first okay so it def moves wow a lot good Pace thank you you’re like the Wordle guest when you just were like I don’t know what it is or grape whatever it doesn’t look like it’s going to do that it does not I didn’t see that at all I mean this course is just eating me up they say you’re not really dead until someone last says your name and uh that’s going to be a minute [Music] repeat come on yeah good roll all right okay boom Another par pars are like weirdly um not that bad out here they’re not bad but they they they’re not good either we shouldn’t we should be doing better than this you think you think 10 under is going to take it tomorrow it’s a really good point actually I don’t know what the Apparently Bruce and Michael block are playing tomorrow the they’re the people that started H&R Block so so bunkers on the left side middle to right side of the Fairway it’s going to kick into the rough so I have to hit it up the left side cover I think we find it I just love how he like Bryson’s understanding of YouTube golf changes the way he plays like major championship professional golf you know how Wild was it that he was in a major leading a major and like bantering back and forth with can you imagine vintage tiger doing that no would have like blown everyone’s mind crazy that’s pretty short 45 34 32 terrible oh wow go that wasn’t good for a short part 4 I feel like did you really have 54 or was it now you’re I think it was longer you think so I mean cuz I didn’t hit at 54 but I didn’t hit it 25 maybe I might have shot the wrong thing we got it CU that wasn’t that was pretty bad on both of our parts yeah this is embarrassing oh God all right yeah pretty good would you play that I played it kind of like right where I went it just didn’t move at all it didn’t turn at all trick shots in pro golf you know you think so no probably not like a little Happy Gilmore off the first te that’d be cool you know do you go down or up I always go up cuz I well I told you I have the train of like ank calf socks yeah I read this article the other day that like if you wear ankle socks you’re not cool yeah and so I quickly just found all the Cal socks I have it’s very Millennial to have a low sock you need yeah and that’s bad that’s bad you’re Millennial right I’m a millennial yeah you don’t want to be a millennial it’s tough it’s tough out here you know so now I have all these cap socks and you know what I feel younger yeah but you the tan line just gets a little bit worse though yeah but like does anyone even see that well it’s so funny I you get so used to seeing white feet as golfers that when you see someone with tan feet you’re like that’s odd but now it’s like I have a golfer tan up to my midcap now which is not great it’s funny I used to be an anti shorts guy never would wear shorts I was like against shorts so you just wear pants all the time I just wear pants and then after moving to Texas yeah it was like oh I can’t wear pants this is AB an clothes just in general just in general just in general you’re nudest yes like the less clothes the better yeah really helps the golf swing to I don’t think people want that from me you never know I don’t know dad’s Bentley no way is that serious that’s that’s rough I don’t feel like we’re playing as bad as the score indicates I agree and the shots show I agree it looks left to right probably a cup I don’t know after that first misread I’m a little bit like shooking up a confidence little little busted here no it’s going left to right at the end bam on the board God dang God dang I drive she chip she recently on my 40th birthday they said what would you say to your 30-year-old self yeah and I was thinking about that in regards to you like what would you say to that version of yourself like however many years ago was I I mean I’ve changed so much since the last time you know we we talked and we did that podcast and I think when I was doing that podcast I was still in this mentality of trying to like please everyone and I I wanted to be taken like quote unquote seriously and just realized that you know that wasn’t who I am and that’s not really who what I want my brand to me and so I’ve just kind of morphed over the years into almost like this um Persona this kind of character that I played this you know Pig Renee and I’ve really had a lot of fun with it what would I do I almost I’ll say this from like as an like a super woke liberal pretend to be like someone who’s like you know the grass out here it’s growing because of water this is like the water rights are terrible like no is that it no I I almost think like you almost do that yourself hear me out hear me out hear me out hear me out I think that like you have this very like kind of artsy alternative kind of side to you that’s very different than what you think of a traditional golfer sure and as an outsider looking in it’s almost like you need to just play that up even more and do these like really yeah like artistic you know like I think it would be really funny to mesh both of our worlds together so it’s like me being my most most self paig Renee you being your most self and it’s like we’re doing super artistic and I’m just in like what about like a what about like a golf dating show that would be really good you can co-host it I always say that like if you are going to date someone take them out to the golf course cuz you know so much about a person on how they react on the golf course yeah it’s true you learn quick learn quick French Lick 204 huh I think it might be quite a long golf shot yeah I mean I don’t even know if I can get three wood there I feel like it’s playing like 235 yeah and I think the wind turned come on yeah turn curl turn that’s got to get there oh gosh that is like ages away I mean that’s it’s a lot of golf from back there yeah and to be fair this is a pretty small grain oh go yeah not terrible can make that oh oops come back okay well we’ve got come back the green surrounded oh no we can make this a little bit left to right maybe I’m going to start using my L it is right to left wow you got it a go moves so much doesn’t move all right par we got two left we need to birdie both of them 195 little five iron here folks come out a little pressure fade know there we go yeah that sounded so good felt good I didn’t see it me neither okay I have 165 little downwind I’m going to go right at it H not good really bad little thin little skinny little skinny I hit a five did you yeah oh my gosh I had 195 this might be one of the hardest courses I’ve ever played it’s pretty hard I wonder what the slope is has to go left yeah I think so yeah I think it’s going to pick up speed once it gets to about here so maybe it’s okay kind of like 80% not the best caddy but I’ll try come on that looks good ah good roll yeah it was good a little bit more than you think break yeah it’s um the greens are like a little bit slow they are but then all a sudden you get it Dow grein and it flies yeah come on come on girl it’s a hard Golf Course guys like you have to hit really amazing golf shots for them to even be decent even to have a it this is a pretty thin green for where you’re looking oh yeah for sure it’s and it’s long too that is beautiful over there it’s like uh I feel like golf courses were designed by birds you know yeah just like you know like you know what I mean love to see you leaning into your new persona well on that note do you know Birds aren’t even real what they’re just robots they it’s like government monitoring devices that’s very Hunger Games yeah have you ever noticed that they’re always sitting on wires what are they doing charging themselves I’m downwind crosswind that’s some rain over there Bry that’s some rain with a silent G nice ball yeah all right we got one in play Nice Shot POA yeah smoked yeah that might be on the wrong line though no I don’t think so I think it’s is going to kick over yeah yeah I think that’s perfect yes so I have a I have a confession what’s that I it it could be true after we did the podcast together I thought you absolutely hated me and then we like never spoke since oh no yeah so I was like 100% so the opposite I was totally impressed by you oh yeah cuz we were always at like events but we were just like kind of passing each other and so I was like it’s it’s is he going out of his way to not say hi to me and I was like oh he’s just he’s too cool for me couldn’t be further from the truth no I was I was probably more thinking that exact same thing really yeah oh that’s funny no no I’m uh I mean I’m kind of like a an introverted extrovert I get that I’m the same way you almost drove the green that was a good dve you smoked it I mean if we don’t make birdy here then we need to yeah it’s true hang up our it’s true golf shoes for a while I can’t believe that what should I have done you should have well I guess you can’t be like to you hate me yeah now oh we’re in trouble I think we could ship this in yes I agree yes yes yes man you know what’s crazi if you think about it Paige like think about all the people in the world that have had that oh I thought so and so didn’t and then you’re so scared to say something yeah and meanwhile it’s just like oh no like actually it could it was the opposite I was like impressed by you I think I do come off kind of cold weirdly really yeah I feel like I can I think you’re such a unique person that you’re you’re intimidating oh really yeah I feel like I when I talk to you I feel like I’m boring or like I’m boring you because I’m not saying anything interesting oh that’s so weird that’s not the truth that’s not the truth like I’m nothing insightful to say so you’re just like bore that is not true I feel like I have some questions for you about my own dating life now feel like maybe I maybe I need to pick ups on some things oh jeez that could be the next YouTube video Let’s dunk this okay come on oh you did not but you know we’re going to assume that we would have shot at least eight under we give ourselves nine under cuz now we’re warm obviously yeah easily course is beautiful we’re excited to be here and
