rck we said earlier on about um Scotty Sheffer using obviously a Titleist golf ball and wedges as opposed to tailor made golf ball and wedges one thing we have seen some some images of now and you’ll be seeing in much more depth next week are the new Titleist drivers the GT2 and the GT3 I think it’s even GT4 for the for the low spin I think they look phenomenal I like really really do look great and to be honest I really love the name GT as never been a driver called GT there must have been it just feels too it like I know but it just feels like too good a name for for a driver company not to have it I could see you use one of them just cuz the name have you got in the back GT I got GT I GT2 three or four just GT is it GT you’d be a two thing is when you know you’ve got a good driver a bit like M1 and M2 you didn’t have to say tailor made no did you correct and I feel like the um titless drivers it it potentially they good they could just I’ve got a G2 G A GT2 yeah I agree they look awesome they have again from the email we got earlier on off tight list they were saying about how Scotty sheff didn’t name him had um won they also said that the GT drivers debuted at Memorial and 13 of the players made the immediate switch now I never know how I feel about that immediate switches is it something to brag about or not because you could interpret naturally as well it must be better or the more pessimistic side of me says well is it any different then if you got tour Pros playing for the bread and butter is that what is that phrase yeah uh for the crust own the crust pay off the mortgage etc etc these guys in the PJ paid off the mortgage they got 50 billion pound houses um they want golf clubs that perform they have got tools they don’t look at golf clubs like we do typically where the’re shiny the new they’re exciting they look at them as being tools for their trade like a builder with his favorite Hammer For example they don’t want to put in a new Hammer it’s shiny new they want it to have all the what what attributes has a hammer got uh grip potentially I don’t know but they want the best tools to the job so maybe these GT drivers are so amazing it’s like I have to put in the back I’m gaining distance it’s more forgiving I want it now give it me now or it’s a case of yeah that’s the same as last year’s I’ll use it to please my sponsor what do you think it’s an interesting take you could look at it both ways really um I mean the way that the brand will certainly position it is it’s all sing you all dance it’s much better it’s going 27 xory yards all this Jazz and I’m sure the players when they stick it all over Instagram will be saying the same um it sometimes it might be a time where let’s say they’re all getting a fit in and I think you see this even with Taylor Maid they’ll be during that period of time when they’ve probably last had a real intense fitting with the current drive but there’s probably now the swings might have changed they might have seen a different shot pattern they might be seing a different ball flight might be using a different golfball whatever it may be and there’s an opportunity for a fitter to have new products and go right let’s really fine tune you in and I bet that element of it is is also key like I love that time when we had that conversation with Tommy Fleetwood and he talking about how having a sponsor is almost like having a mechanic for an F1 car good analogy and I feel like that’s this is their opportunity tit list as such who bringing out the GTS at the moment is like the mechanics can really get involved and go right let’s let’s tweet this let’s tweet that let’s really dial that in I’m going stick a bit of hot glue in this cuz they want that driver head to be going in the bag so I think it’s almost a time to to refresh and uh kind of reg Galvanize the the energy within the driver I think where players will put it in quickly is because maybe it probably looks the same as their previous driver so when they set it up behind the ball it looks very familiar and they go well as long as it’s performing just as good if not better I can I can play with that not a problem I agree and I’ve kind of been tonging cheek a bit there because I think there could be some element of that sometimes where players might put stuff in the bags it’s the same and the brands force them on it but what I would say and trying to you know remain as impartial as we possibly can be I personally believe that Titus the brands if not the best brand for that in the sense of letting the players play what they feel most comfortable with it’s you know it’s not a secret there’s lots of guys out on tour whose older versions of prov1 I think Justin Thomas famous used a really old tiess driver for a long time I think he was like the 9917 or something for a long long time so I know that out of all the brands tight list don’t yes they care a lot about them using the latest and greatest but they’re not as bothered as long as it’s still tight list at the end of the day so interesting to see how that performs you’re getting fitted for one next week and obviously reviews will be coming out a few weeks after but is when is the actual ambar or is I think it’s a little while off yeah again what I don’t quite understand actually is titlist release their driver every two years which I love I think Brands to do that really good it gets you excited and it makes you feel like maybe wrongly so but feel like there must be some difference it’s been two years what they also do is they seed the product much earlier than it actually comes out to markets they start to seed it to players on the tour now and then release it in September or whatever I think you said but I don’t quite understand why because it’s not they can change it it’s not they’re giving it to the tour Pros now for R&D purposes and they’ll then make tweaks and then release a product the product is ready to be released as we speak they’ll have samples and and product everywhere in in in shipping containers but I don’t quite get the purpose of that is it to tell the story better as the consumer maybe I mean my logical brain tells me that you want the club in their players hands to win tournaments get an impact so you’ve got to do that in the summer mhm there must be some um uh research that titlist believe in and go well actually the best time to sell products is actually September time yeah yeah which I don’t feel like it is I actually hate when Brands bring out when Brands bring out their drivers because often for me it’s either start of the year when no one’s really playing golf certainly here in the UK or back end of the year like tit list or or ping of Norman done in the past I actually think why not April April and May should be the more time when drivers come out in my opinion because it’s the start of the golf season people are playing a bit more golf something new and shiny comes out oh yeah I’ve got to try that you’re right I think unfortunately unfortunately I think the reality is there’s a lot of like you said business decisions to why these are it’s why a lot of Brands and I think we can use ping as an example why they often bring out the drive and like a Max version a few months later which they did this time with the g430 max 10K it’s not that Golf Club wasn’t ready when the other ones came out it was because they released the first batch get the hype get the sales as they maybe start to slow off a little bit bang has a new one people then either buy that one or decide to go and try the whole family and buy another version of the same driver so I think you’re right I think it would make more sense for us as golfers but I think that they must have busy reasons as to why you know what though I think one thing that would genuinely change historically when Brands brought out golf clubs was it was all around that PGA uh trade show and a lot of the time D manufacturers brought out their drivers ready to showcase at the PJ trade show this was before YouTube before you know people could really see images of it beforehand um I feel like if the trade show suddenly moved to April brandwood can start migrating towards bringing out products in April rather than January question for you then and I’m going to say take your impartiality hat off and I don’t mean that in a sense of you know be biased or anything because I know you want to remain impartial for the hit Channel and and that makes perfect sense but from from Rick Shields himself just just genuinely hand on heart now I want you to give me the two brands that you do with driver in particular still get most maybe excited normal like okay this sounds this is serious X brand brought on new driver I still think t made in Callaway would you say Callaway is above Titleist yeah would you yeah well because it’s every year it feels a bit different like titlist and ping you kind of know what to expect though let’s be honest and I know they’ve had a little bit of a shift in in name Chang but Titus are never going to bring out the Bazooka are they no they’re just not a white bazooka and I quite like them too cuz they’ be like oh my Titans brought out this what the hell and ping what are ping going to bring out next time G 4 like a g you just know already what it’s going to be now that doesn’t mean that’s not a bad strategy I think that’s a good strategy and and do I end up putting a tailor made or Callaway driver in the bag not very often almost hardly ever but ping drivers many times I put the Ping drivers in the back CU it’s like well I know what I’m getting and even tight list if you’re a titless purist and you’re like well I actually know what a titless driver does and I want to keep a titless driver the next version it’s like well I’ll just put that driver back that’s something for me I’m a bit weird because even though I don’t use TI this driver right now I have before and I use TI D and yeah know I do like tit list but I feel like for me if I was a consumer buying these things and I was playing a lot of golf I I don’t to be the person that was more like to go from a titless driver to the next model because I think well it’s only changed slightly but I may as well have the advantage of that slightly whereas I feel bizarrely going from a a stealth 2 to a Qi 10 is it actually going to be better I feel there’s more risk potentially that could actually almost be a step back it it could brands have done that haven’t they where the old M2 was so good M3 and four weren’t better than M2 and one I actually feel like though titler have had that Journey as well like 917 was it 915s or 917 917s weren’t great at all no I think and then then they went to the then was it did they have a 919 or go to TS I can’t remember now I think they might have had a 919 as well and then they had yeah they had a couple of ropey years let’s just double check yeah they had a 919 no no 917 and then it went to TS R TS so I always remember 97 is just not to be phenomenal and then they brought out TS as almost like a oh look we’ve we’ve kind of done with the NES now we’ fixed it and now we and then they went TSR which actually I never reviewed in the end and now they’ve gone GT they TSI as well TSI which is the middle oh they went TS TSI TSR yes so it was 2019 was if I’m right now let me get this right I think 20 18 19 was the TS and then would it be 20 21 I don’t know I’m confused now it definitely went TS TSR 22 23 and then this is for 24 25 effectively yeah that’s right then I don’t know it’s it’s just how brands do things differently I personally do excited to see a tit list and a ping because I feel like it’s going to be small tweaks but it’s still worth doing Taylor Made I think I’m the most excited for in a sense of what’s the name going to be what’s the colors going to be what differences it’s going to have some level of difference um different brands different strategies

  1. I disagree that most golfers don't think of a club as a tool. Personally and most people I talk to about clubs, don't care what a club looks like as long as it is legal and it has great results.

  2. I have a TSR3 and love it. I think Titliest do a great job on product and marketing. I shy away from Taylormade because they seem obsessed with marketing and saturate with top player sponsorship. Callaway I just don't like their irons look,

  3. I wish all brands would have a 2-3 year product window on equipment. You can’t really improve anything in a 12 month window cause when you break it down that R&D time is really only like 3-4 months tops. You still need time for prototypes, manufacturing changes and retooling, and marketing as well.

  4. If you think about when Titleist release their drivers, the end of the season is probably when people are swinging their best…so, they are more likely to buy a product then because they hit it well…in the beginning of the season, most people aren’t comfortable with their swing, or are working on it, or still getting their swing stamina up…

  5. WHAT???? You never reviewed the TSR???? WOW…such a great driver. It’s 2 years old and still competing well with the newest releases from other brands…

  6. Rick is into the promotion of clubs so I can understand his position on clubs coming out every year. But TaylorMade and Callaway have turned their drivers and fairway woods into gimmicky, ugly, gaudy garbage IMO and will NEVER be considered classic like Titleist, Mizuno or Ping. I do give credit to TM on their new driver Qi10 with a classic black finish but I don’t trust they’ll stay with this design.

  7. I still game an M2. New drivers are all marketing. Shit aint flying farther bois. Save your money for a lesson.

  8. For being involved in golf as long as you have, I am surprised you havent realized what brands do during launch to pretend the new driver is way better.

Tour players prefer (on average anyway) slightly more spin on a driver than your local fitter would set a normal guy up with. Spin = stability. Most want to hit fairways and realize a few yards isn't as beneficial as a fairway on tour where the rough is truly penalizing. So when they get to the "fitting" of the new stuff, they'll stick them in a lower lofted head than theyll actually end up playing. Lower loft = less spin and more ball speed. All the sudden relative to their gamer this new driver is faster with less spin. "Its amazing! The engineers really knocked it out of the park! 4 mph faster ball speed and 8 more yards will really help me" Then they cut the cameras and probably say hey now go build me one with more loft that spins 2400-2600 and all the "gains" disappear. This shits been happening for years.

And im not trying to say equipment hasnt gotten better because it has… But if everyone was picking up 4 mph every year like they want you to believe, the average ball speed on tour wouldve crept up to 190-200 mph. Instead its still low 170s, up from high 160s 10 years ago.

  9. Titleist starts an early production. This way they do less expansion and retraction of the production line. They are already pumping so they give it to your pros for the marketing. The tour feedback never changes anything. But I agree with Rick the best time to release a golf club is the earlier in the season, not later. Anyway the largest problem with Titleist is the fact the factory has more saying than the engineers. If the engineers wants to do something, but the factory says no. That’s it for Titleist. For other brands who use the vendors, if one says no they go to other. But titleist owns the factory and I think it’s their biggest weakness. Even when the factory produces what’s inferior to the earlier generation, they can’t do a thing about it.

  10. Companies from all industries like to release products a few months before the holidays…it allows for marketing to maximize its brand awereness among consumer…also releasing in spring would line up too closely to “tax season” in the USA, a time of year when people are thinking about all the money they should have saved the previous fall/winter.

  11. I think releasing in September isn’t bad because you can go get fitted and since most companies have a 5-8 week lead time for a custom order you don’t lose part of the golf season waiting for the clubs to arrive

  12. If you want to be truly unbiased then you need to review Titleist along with everything else. Tsr3 is hands down better than 425 or stealth. I played them all them stayed tsr for last 2 years.

  13. Launching a driver in March gives the brand time to pick up some marketing steam for the season. The same is true of September for Christmas revenue.

  14. have the tsi and love it but can't wait to try the GT – do like titles how they have their two cycles and makes me feel they bring out a club cause its better rather than a yearly marketing release
used to hate the TM and Callaway used to bring out like 6 drivers a year – two releases

  15. Im super excited for these clubs as I’m absolutely crushing every stick in my bag (Titleist) except my driver (TM). It’s a Stealth 2 Plus and although it’s certainly adequate, and gets me around the course just fine, it just doesn’t inspire the same confidence that my 3 wood does (TSR3). Anyone know when they normally release/launch new products?

  16. If you already have a titleist TSI or a TSR driver You would have to be out of your mind to get a GT driver, For one or two steps more distance. JUST A THOUGHT !!!!!!!!

  17. Callaway and TaylorMade will have an eye on Titliest, so next January will be a serious new launch season.

  18. I play a Titleist driver, but have always thought that if you release a driver every 2 years, that driver is going to be behind the competition for that second year.

  19. I will stick with my 20 year old Taylormade r7 Superquad , best driver ever made , no chance I’m paying what they ask for the price of a new driver nowadays it’s actually a joke

  20. Don’t forget, tour players literally travel with Titleist techs. They can have a driver built to their specs and on the range with very little effort. The brands make it really easy to get their products onto the course.

  21. Got to swing the GT2, 10 yards longer than my qi10. Still sounds like titanium drive even though its not

  22. How do these guys not know the titliest drivers names 917 was a great club btw the ts was the shit one 915 most forgiving one ever made tsr got them back in game
