welcome welcome welcome track and field fans to the better running shoes.com trials after dark post night podcast live podcast our next to last live podcast says let ron.com co-founder Robert Johnson joined by my genetic equal but much faster twin brother won Johnson as well as former NCA qualifier he would say regional qualifier Jonathan Gold hey Steph rer thankfully Jonathan Gold is muted he’s trying to disagree with my production of him please please never call me an NCA qualifier I don’t want any Stolen Valor I made it to Regionals I got 4th I mean I was proud to qualify but I was in no qualifier okay a staff writer Jonathan G welcome to the show he’s in Eugene the next to last night of the trials featured was it only three track finals they were good ones women’s 200 Gabby Thomas wins it Shaker Richardson goes home devastated does not make the team men’s 200 no ly wins it okay Kenny bener second there was a battle for third Christian Coleman ends up fourth yet again as the youngster Arion Knighton takes it home I was thrilled by that people wonder where I am on the Panic meter we’ll talk about that but the women’s 10,000 was the main distance was the distance final tonight we’re a distance website it was a fabulous race it was a lot of fun three women we clear on the last lap but they were going for it all three took a shot at it in the end wayy kot the woman with no kick has a kick she wins it and then there was a allout war for second because I think both these women Alicia uh Kisha schweer and Parker Valby knew the ranking points were important and by Point by 4,000th of a second Parker Valby takes second G wins at 31417 vby 31 4156 schweer the same time but vby gets the extra five ranking points which is a 10-point swing we’ve done the math here it looks like both Parker vby and Kisha schweer will be going to the Olympics hold on to your thought hold on to your cross your fingers because right now just done the math they’re going to be the final two people in assum assuming nobody else Leap Frogs them they also could be helped if other teams don’t send all of their people like is Great Britain John really gonna send eish Mogan who’s not currently fit they often don’t do that so we’ll talk about that in more you got guys can get started I’ve got something real quick okay honestly way through this race I was losing my mind because I was like this is the one race in her season where par of Valby really does need to get a time uh she didn’t need the time in the Olympic Charles 5K final she was going to make it in on ranking this one was like you know a time could really boost our chances of making the Olympics I think as it turns out running 3141 and getting second I think there will be enough scratches that the top three tonight are your team but I was like why of all Races would this be the one though she doesn’t push the pace but maybe she was feeling tied from a very long season she’s already run two races at these trials whatever it was she did get second showed a very impressive fight and kick on that last lap against schweer I mean what a battle between those two women and how many lead changes were there on that last lap you had kadi Tak and then schweise taking then kadi taking it again on the inside and the home straight I mean if I didn’t have that standard ranking thing floating around the back of my head I would have just been totally absorbed uh by all the fierce racing over that final 400 so it was a really fun race in the end it was a great race and I think I mean her coach must have known I don’t know I think we were all sort of thinking beforehand it needed to be faster and then I got an email before the race started saying oh it might you know 313 40 or if she wins it which BBY didn’t do but maybe they had done the math better than us and you pull a few people out but regardless of the Olympic thing this was a great and we should give wayy Kat her due but we already knew wayy Kat was going to the Olympics we already knew wayy Kat was level above Parker Valby this was a great race for Parker Valby I thought because there was a lot of other women sort of 31’s who were like oh I’m going to step up here and challenge this was no contest the final what a couple laps it was three women clear and usually Valby I mean she got destroyed in the 5K right the last lap she battles them to the end now you can say o Weiser isn’t 100% Kat’s never shown that great of a kick but it was great and it looks like Valby now will go to the Olympics I think you know I’m probably expecting her to go in the five anyway so the little perker Valby Mania that everyone’s obsessed with should she have turned Pro beforehand whatever like good for her and and it’s best for someone I don’t know with all of this at one point I’m like is um you know Ellie Hennis gonna make the team like essentially just because she’s the last man standing and she’s hurt this year or coming back from injury I don’t like it when someone makes a team like when Ritz did the one year when he entally like gets LA and just makes the team because default qualifier this was great to see no it was really impressive by Valby especially when you remember what happened in the 5K like you said W is the last two laps she got crushed by Carissa schweer who’s a former US champ in the 10K to come back a week later and to out kick her for the second for second place I I was very impressed by Valby especially running that well at the end of such a long season she’s doubling at all these meets for Florida like to come and deliver that uh you know I I I was very impressed by how she ran and I think it it could end up that Park of Alby is a double Olympian because if Ellie St Pierre makes the 00 team like we expect she made up run the five in Paris and it looks like she might get in the 10 as well so she could end up making the US Olympic team in two events uh just a fantastic showing by her tonight regardless this quite a reallocation needs to happen and needs to happen now I don’t know why I haven’t been arguing about it for the last 24 years but it’s just painful to have to watch and do the math when these races finish we should email yakob Morrison World Athletics to see if he’s watching these races I just don’t know how it helps anyone to have to do this nonsense but Robert for people turning in quarter reallocation would be if the US has three spots they can give them to whoever they want the US didn’t have three people in this race with with the the spot so I don’t this would be One race where you really wouldn’t apply quota reallocation you’re G to give the cross country spot away the US was pretty weak in this event coming in it was very borderline I don’t think you should be able to give the spot of someone who isn’t in this race meaning gisha Monson who had the standard so this would be an instance where I don’t think there would be any spots to allocate they had to go out earn it today and it looks like they did so congrats to them I agree with well then because yeah one of the spots was Katie ISO in the cross country rankings and she essentially gained the system to get that spot which she didn’t gain the system what do you mean she didn’t gain the system she went over she ran some uncompetitive cross country races in Europe got a ton of points then she got hurt unfortunately but you know she wasn’t compe she was 13th tonight that may have been due to coming back from the injury but she hasn’t shown close to that level on the track that weth L doesn’t allow you to relocate that spot and I don’t think they should on the cross country rankings unless we totally overhaul the system I find it rich that Robert um well congrats James Corgan he went out today made the Olympic team when that gun went out and Kenneth went off today there was the race for those of you who don’t know James Corgan third in the steeple chase needed to hit the standard today essentially to make it was running at the pin relays it was hot not the great best weather uh at Pin relays today at Pin and Kenneth Rooks Olympics trials Champion was supposed to Pace him and didn’t start the race I don’t know what the deal was there and let’s run.com supporters Club member did the pacing no yeah Dan mski gets an assist I mean James cargan 813 a 7sec PB uh having to fly cross country do this hastily arranged well hastily arranged steeple for him the meat was existing for a while to do that at the end of the season and run that PB when you absolutely needed to to make the Olympics was incredible but shout out to Dan mahalski fourth place of the 2021 trials doesn’t make the final of the trials in Eugene was you know disappointed about that obviously and now he’s in Philadelphia pacing this guy and helping him secure his Olympic spot so unfortunately that means for Evan he will not be at the 2024 Olympics will not be making his third Olympic team but congratulations to James cargan from nth at NC blazs to a US Olympian in a span of about three weeks just a a terrific story and is the leader of the EV jger fan club I’m still waiting for him to break eight in the steeple I Mayan have the C I was when I saw macowski on the line I’m like I may have to cancel his supporters club membership this is like a dagger to the heart but as the race went on the kid deserves it man like good for him I I especially this way it went down he had had to do it himself at the end I didn’t I it was just great so you want to see people rising to the occasion more often than not when they when people chase the standard because this used to happen a lot back in the day when there was no ranking points people would go chase the standard after trials and they would almost literally never hit it I mean it I was shocked to see him do it today so great race there but the point I was trying to make was Robert R was like this point race shouldn’t get bonus points it’s unfair and then he’s now claiming he’s all for people going to cross country ranking through the 10K so I’m being hypocritical I believe in once the rules are set up you follow the rules in the spirit of the rules so the cross country there if you if you race across country it’s this dumb thing but that exists I guess you could say you could manipulate the ranking points I just don’t think by who has the most money should contribute to who goes to the Olympics I I wanted to know what you thought won did you want Corgan to make the team you’re a jger fan I mean I I think Cory again is an amazing story and I like generally like to see the top three go but if you’re actually like GNA act like a Brit where you know your your your birth and your pedigree is more important than your actual reaching accomplishments I do think that Jagger I don’t think either one of them has a big upside for the Olympics maybe they can make the final and get just crushed but did you want were you hoping Corgan got it or not I think Before the Race not then I watched the race and I was like go get it man like good for you it all happened I’m I am taking credit for it because I got it all happened under the Robert Johnson’s scoreboard at the pin relays Dan macowski texted me last night said I’m in Philadelphia ready to Rabbit so I think they knew for some time that that Rooks wasn’t rabbiting um well he was on the infield wearing his Nike kit like he was wearing his ning kit it looked like and like half tight so it was kind of weird but um yeah I guess maybe he learned last what was second place like I I didn’t watch the race I can’t find the results how far back oh y s ran that actually he finished fifth place uh coached in high school by LLC house guest uh this week Joey bender and he ran 817 so that was a big PB for him as well so another terrific run I mean y seen s both these guys are still in college so and I don’t anticipate they’ll be turning pro so we’re gonna have a great battle in the steeple uh next year and well Jagger fans they need to make sure this race started at the right place little sound suspicious like some of the guys who was the George Mason coach back in the day who he was caught not timing the races crack accurately so the co people would qualify for Nationals that’s a joke I assume they started the race but Panda if any track you’re gonna f up and start at the wrong place it would be the pin Reay because that track is the least traditional track in America even though it’s probably one of the most RAC up tracks in America well then I was wondering the same thing actually I think s might have been uh might be a scene yester I’m not sure if he has eligibility left but I was thinking the same thing I’m like do they have all the cones set up in the right places are we good on this okay Kenny Beric just came in the mix zone so I think uh looks like Dave Ross has got him okay I can stay on for a little longer but I mean so should we anyone else I guess we want to talk about in this 10K I can throw up the result here people can can see them because okay Robert lead us off well I I just was wondering you know I mean I was just looking at some stats here you know the final oops um final mile for for uh gilotti was 438 she went 717766 you know that’s not Amazing by world class standards but it was a really fun race to watch um John who was the fourth Placer at the US Marathon trials it was the same woman who was fourth tonight Jessica mlan so finishing fourth I’m not sure what her ranking spot would have been like for this race uh Pro I don’t think she would have had a shot but that’s don’t quote me on that but still fourth in the marathon trials fourth the Olympic trials one you would say that’s very impressive and two also heartbreaking yeah but she’s probably got to be the happiest fourth Placer in history for both races because I don’t think really under any scenario did she see herself going to the Olympics in either event and she just had a great season she deserves a shout out I was thrilled to see the fifth Placer zap endurance’s Amanda vestri former Syracuse Runner I remember interviewing her oh my god well I for I think it was in Al alquerque right NCA indoors and talking to her coach Brian Bell she just was so excited so she like I want to be Pro I think I’m made for the marathon you know I just really want to do it and and you don’t see that enthusiasm and I was like somebody should sign her and she did great tonight got fifth kayin Taylor Robert Robert Amanda vestri cool story about her someone did sign her she signed with Brooks about two hours before the race and I was asking her I’m like so when did you get your racing kit she’s like you know about two hours ago like when’d you get those spikes you wore she like uh two hours ago hadn’t worn them before but shoes are shoes I’m like shoes are shoes she’s like no we got a Level Playing Field so this is a woman who after you know running with zap endurance but not with the you know an actual shoe deal until now signs one on the day of her race finishes fifth at the Olympic trials wearing shoes she had never worn before she said the first time she was going to wear the Brooks trainers she got was on her cool down just now she was a little disappointed because she had been running so well this season she was hoping to finish higher but uh really a tremendous story and the progress she’s made in one year I think she’s going to be a terrific Pro like you said Robert one of your favorite anecdotes her coach Brian Bell thought she was going to be made for the marathon uh she said she’s making a half marathon debut this fall but she’s taking some time off now so terrific run by Amed destri and so some people behind her I mean kayin Taylor’s six you got a lot of veterans here disappointing here I mean Ellie henis I mean coach her mother former n Champion herself has had such success for NC State I’m sure she her daughter was basically gonna get if she was top three it would have gotten in on on the ranking because she was like 28th coming in she’s ninth you know she gets injured doesn’t have a great season or she had surgery I guess and in the all you know uh Caitlyn Tu is tough year tough for them you know kirato 10th um you know it’s just you know we never are going to see these 40 plus women like Kiera deato or Sarah Hall an Olympic team I don’t think and and that’s what I said several years ago would happen it’s unfortunate though I was kind of rooting for somehow the deato would get on there that’s not going to happen and the last finisher this is the ties to Let’s run.com she back when Wen founded the website in the early days of let’s run she visited the apartment Stephanie Bruce the last finisher po eles so good run for her great career but you know dnf for for Mike Smith white for Rachel just there’s a lot of names in this race that that didn’t have great days that that deserve kind of a shout out wow do we need to shut down the website is this it the last I didn’t think about could this be the last competitive Runner with a direct tie I mean abd’s retired Stephanie Bruce I don’t know if there is another one Robert but I mean a couple these people like Ellie henness she had like lung surgery right like you can’t CRI decides anything she did this year to come back and run as well as she did before the trials was absolutely amazing and yeah K deato I mean you mention somebody Robert someone who’s got to be crushed is Natasha Rogers she was top three at these trials back in 2008 2012 John 2012 2012 but didn’t have the standard did not get to go to the Olympics she made both teams last year right five 10 correct John and I think this year you know this this is where you criticize it Paul chimo oh should she have not taken a crack at the marathon you could say maybe the same about chilimo she was essentially a non-factor on the track at both these races um but everyone else I don’t know shout out to Erica Kemp for pushing the r she sort of if if these W if Valby and schweer make it by about five seconds they need to than Erica Kemp because she was the one who who started push the pace [Music] with what’s the after 6,800 so with 3K to go is when she took over and pushed the pace and kudos to Valby she said she just waited for a coach to tell her to go then pushed the pace and I think they’re probably going to make it by I don’t know but 10 seconds FL they probably don’t make the Olympics I’m not I I I I don’t know about the time that much maybe I think they’ll be okay because you go remember you’re taking out Monson and also you’d be taking out ktie ISO ahead of them in this situation so just by that I think you would get two Americans you’d have them up to 2728 and then um one of the Brits just wed Jud has shut down a season and I think you have some other people might be withdrawing as well so I do think they’ll be all right all right n’s coming I’m gonna see if we can get him I’ll talk to you guys later John see if he if he’s got a 193 in him for the game just that’s all I need and my other question is zap and durrance is it now like tracksmith people can just leave because they’ve been doing really well without a a proper sponsor but it used to be you know the athletes are getting free housing that sort of stuff maybe that’s the deal they can leave but that group is is underhandedly I thought done very well so I think that’s even a cool setup for people then if that’s the situation they’re going to be they’re like you can essentially come here train do well but someone should sponsor that group themselves and then maybe lock in some athletes but in the interim at least it it would it’s a great deal for some of them she was running amazing and like so shout out to her like I did notice the Brooks kit today and I was like wait like because in the past you know they they had a proper sponsor it’s kind of interesting yall were talking about Natasha Rogers you know never being Olympian Isaiah Harris probably never Olympian I feel like since theyve made teams you know for the average Joe there’s a huge difference between the Olympics and worlds for us not so much it’s just a shame I feel like they deserve it she certainly deserved it in 2012 or whenever she got second trials or first so that’s the women’s 10,000 let’s talk about the Sprint action today women’s 200 final and you know I should see where I’m by the way if you’re listening live go to better runningshoes.com that’s our she review site it’s been updated with pricing check it out also while you’re listening Like Us on YouTube so you can get follows follow us but in the in the contest the one of the keys to doing well in the contest is updating your scores after the 100 it’s good to Shaker looked in the 100 I was immediately thinking to myself when I watched that live like okay I gotta remember to go in to the contest change my picks pick her to win the 200 and then I when I went in to change my picks I was doing some research and I’m like wait a minute last year shakeri got a medal in the 200 world but she didn’t win usas she didn’t as good as she was in ncas her final years she didn’t win the 200 and she just not a fantastic 200 meter Runner and when Gabby Thomas is on her game I think gab’s better so I I picked um I almost had this perfect I I I picked Gabby to win it and then McKenzie longed to get second I did pick Shaker for third and you know Shaker doesn’t make the team in the 200 I don’t know really if she should feel bad about that because what her PB is from the Simi right it’s 21 isn’t it 2191 2192 excuse me yesterday which let’s see what she ran yesterday yeah she ran 2192 which is equal to her PB but it would have she would have had to run another PR today to make it because Gabby won it in 2181 Brown second 2190 McKenzie long in the NCA champ 2191 so those three women ran well Shaker was clearly off her game 2216 you know I don’t know if it’s because she’s been a long week but MacKenzie’s had a long week too or if it was she was cleared you know a little bit I think a lot of people on the mess board thought she was purposely running in the middle of the lane not getting close to that line because she got a yellow card yesterday for touching the line so anyways not a big thing I still think she’s got a great shot at the women’s 100 meter gold and you know be interesting if usatf was a professional organization and made her talk to the media which they don’t do it would be interesting to get a chance to talk to her to see what’s been going on there because she was running so poorly in the 200 in China barely breaking 23 seconds and then she’s running 219 here both rounds until today 2216 so you know kind of kind of uh interesting there I mean as good as she is in the hundred she’s still not a 200 meter run I think the first two rounds maybe missus but she doesn’t have this event down like you know we’ll talk about the 200 the men’s 200 in a second but people were saying oh Noah look like he’s pressured whatever like maybe not his best race and he just figures it out there’s like there is no room for error for sh car in this race and then we’ll never know would be nice to know of course you know I’m reading too much into the yellow flag thing that she was way over the Lane but even in the in the yesterday when she stepped on the lane after that she was way over in the middle so and I think in round one she was trying to avoid the lane so who knows I mean we’re not gonna know about that but McKenzie long who didn’t you know Inca double champion won the 4 by1 she didn’t make the 100 final so and she was the world leader coming into this it was nice to see her bounce back and make this team um I mean Shaker making the team would have been a better story for America but I mean MacKenzie’s long I mean the personal story there is actually amazing right her mother died this year think during indoors and for her to like overcome that get it together dominate NCA it would really suck for her if she just didn’t make the Olympics so I didn’t I forgot I knew that she hadn’t done well in the hund I got she hadn’t made the final but that’s the perfect example of when I was doing the picks I was like wait this one Mackenzie long is still the world leader in the 200 and I thought about just discarding her but I’m like no she’s a better 200 Runner she carries really a 100 Runner who gets by in the 200 because of her Talent so it’s interesting Kevin Link in YouTube Once should I be confident to bet Thomas dollars and Thomas for 200 met gold look Kevin we can’t answer that question in a vacuum everything about betting is the odds I mean if it’s 100 to one no-brainer if it’s if it’s you know so give us the odds we’ll tell you whether we thinks you can do it also I’ve not seen the Jamaican trials results so that’s what I’d want to see um you know see if they’ve got anybody going well you know go ahead I was gonna say if you’re looking at the at the world you know list it’s this is an event where coming in my God I mean again I don’t know what happened in Jamaica today but this is crazy they don’t really get this across on the broadcast I wish that they would I mean I guess you could say it for almost every Sprint but it’s just the US has spots one two three four five six 78 n the nine fastest women in the world are all from the United States of America no one else in the world has run faster than 227s and yet this is even before tonight before the trials I think BEC it’s got sh car’s it does have sher’s semi in here so this is as of last night so it’s just crazy how good we are in this thing so Kevin leank is not giving us the odds so anyways but so it’ll be interesting to see what happens tomorrow like tomorrow’s gonna be a big day in Eugene with the tons of finals the final day obviously we got the British trials Jake Whitman’s hopes of an Olympic thing here to be over I’m he’s got to have two people without the standard go finish he’s got to have a person finish without without the standard finish in the top two in the 1500 or the 800 and in terms of betting Gabby Thomas she looks so great in Eugene but she always looks great in Eugene she won in 2021 and 2020 three was it three right got I pull this up yeah she ran 2161 and 2021 to win the trials 2160 in 2023 and yet at you know the Olympics she runs 2187 for the bronze and last year 2181 so she was running point2 slower at the major championships and the US championships now the good thing for her is she only ran 218 today so if she can reverse that equation then then you’re almost in you know sharica Jackson territory where it’s but sharica Jackson is the standard bear in this event so interesting comment here from Elena gorgeous on YouTube vby is incredible and so young and talented being all these older women she’s the Kaitlyn cork of track when I first saw that was like that’s ridiculous but I guess vby did I’m like has vby redefined the way the game of track Fields is played I would say no she’s obviously totally Rewritten the five in the 10,000 meter record book she’s had an unprecedented season but it’s kind of I don’t know it’s hard to determine how much of that is shoes compared to other other eras you know I I think that Jenny Simpson probably when she was running in the under like 1501 and 359 back in the day I course Jenny wasn’t winning across country so you know it’s kind of interesting but I don’t think the fact that you know that I don’t know is she that young I mean we’ve seen Olympic champions from Africa be younger Yak Binger bitson was younger than she is so I mean I’m not saying I’m not trying to Discount her future I think she’s had an amazing amazing year I just it’s an interesting concept I don’t know I hadn’t thought of her as the Caitlyn cork the Jamaican 200 trials got started today 2267 for sharica Jackson that’s round one finals for tomorrow and the Jamaican 10,000 meters Was Won by Jason Baker in 3543 second place 4317 like what there’s guys who go out for jogging I could find some guys in the street in Jamaica who could run 10 faster in this this like I’m sort of shocked is this that they even have this race um but any more thoughts on the women’s 200 robbert or should we turn to the men’s no we’re good oh I I did I just Mackenzie long the story to me is amazing I I my my wife and my son were playing cards in the other room watching LEL Messi play and I came in to watch the women’s 200 and I came back in in tears I wife was like why are you in tears I’m like the girl whose mom died made it so I was very touched by that but um yeah bby’s you know 21 years of age 277 days her her birthday is September 27th of o2 I was saying that she’s was trying to figure out how old actually inert was when he won Gold so he was he was 20 because it was three years ago all right let’s turn to the men’s 200 I mean I this one went exactly how I thought it would go in terms of Noahs winning Kenny bck second Arion Knighton third Christian Coleman fourth I mean they were talking about other guys Courtney Lindsay had run fast early in the season whatever but you know if you’re looking I assume these numbers are the world rank the top three guys in the world rankings Wes bner and knon went one two three Coleman was fourth he ran great yesterday he actually ran faster today 1989 had a great start had a great you know first 150 but he already he was already caught byting by 150 and you know ends up fourth so but when they were doing the intros I I just I was like I’m not even a Sprint expert I’m pretty confident I this is gonna go and um sh Richards Ross said oh I think night I can’t see him not making the team I’m like same way with me and then AO Balton seemed surprised by that bll pick I was like this guy’s run 194 as a teenager are you kidding me so for me if you’re new to the show I famously predicted after the last Olympics when no WS didn’t win I’m like wait a minute this guy was hyped up as an exra same bolt he didn’t win if he didn’t win this one how is he going to win in three years or seven years I’m like he missed his window is never going to win Olympic gold now it does look like he he’s obviously would be favored right now for the 100 and 200 I think but so he very well could win gold but the difference is we’re getting no all as in 2021 was off his game he was he was depressed he was an antidepressent he just wasn’t running top his game he’s running very well now but this was you know a meet record for him but it’s a PB for Kenny bener 1959 and I was just I really wanted nting on this team because we’ve seen the 194 as a teenager this was his first race you know he was fighting this drug suspension that was overturned so you know in in five weeks can he get a if I was him I’d race as much as I possibly can and I I think in the past the problem was you he ran 194 and what April first race of the year if he can run 194 in Paris you know he might be able to win the gold there so but you know it’s you got you got a feel for Christian Coleman I know his dad has listened to the show before people think that we don’t you know we have a personal animosity against him I don’t have a personal animosity against him I just have an animosity against a lack of professionalism whether it’s usatf not requiring people to do interviews whether it’s people not taking their drug testing responsibility seriously but for anyone to I mean imagine there’s no other country in the world where you run 198 9 and I’m trying to figure out what he ran back on um Sunday night 993 yeah 993 1989 sorry you’re on the relay team buddy but yeah I mean we were talking about fourth place finishers right I guess the saving gra for Christian Coleman is it gets to be the on the Reay be an Olympian and Jess mlan won’t be but Jess mlan going into those trials I don’t think she’s thinking I’m really gonna make the team I mean that’s just formerly Tom like both these performances were really good for her maybe you know coming in the 10K she’s like I still got a shot but like even with like a mile to go she’s probably like well not really thinking she’s going to get fourth but Coleman I mean he raised this game for this 10K there’s just like no question about it he’s run you know 1985 that was way back in 2017 um whatever I actually I say that he’s run 199 2019 199 2022 199 2023 so you know the perception is like he’s he is a better he’s a better 60 meter Runner than he’s 100 meter Runner so he’s obviously be a better 100 meter Runner than 200 meter Runner but in any other country we’d appreciate his 200 meter prowess like he’s very good but there’s a comment up here saying col will get a 4 by1 silver and run the fastest like for USA just Pro a point but Canada will win the gold what no the USA well we have Jamaica too people I don’t see the US getting silver I see them like or or not to Canada at least maybe to Jamaica or they drop the Baton and don’t medal at all that’s how I essentially see the usways but I guess you could really slow down to hand off or something like that but but the like absolute Talent on this team is amazing individual Talent you know add up add up the legs it’s no contest versus the rest of the world because these guys could well I until two days ago when I would have I was like open to the possibility of them sweeping I’m like go you know sevil fser for Jamaica but now I think no Jamaica these guys just it was amazing what they did yesterday at the Jamaican championships Dr Don on YouTube wants to say he’s saying that Coleman’s not ly is not the favorite for 100 gold the jamaan guy ran 977 yesterday I think if you’re if I’m sure there is probably a betting site that has odds maybe not actually but if there was a betting s that odds I think that Noah Wilds would be the betting favorite for for the the gold why yes some Jamaican guy who’s got no proven track record of the Championships ran faster yesterday but that’s extremely warm and moist conditions which I think probably are maybe faster than what you find in Eugene and and lyes is defending World Champ he’s a bigger name he’s also from an American Market where it’s just gonna influence the think there’s more betters from America they don’t want to lose their ass so I I think that he’d be the betting now I guess favorite and betting favorite aren’t necessarily the same thing like who would the experts pick that’s an interesting question well if anyone finds betting odds and post the site in here on the Forum all the shows on you get a free let’s run.com shirt go to our store now shop. letsrun.com these are super soft amazing shirts check them out and if you want this as a podcast this how many people are up with what and someone please find the world betting odds put them in here we always offer well never mind I’ll say that for the regular podcast on Tuesday what and I guess wait one thing I did want to say about the Jamaican championships the we got to get his name out there kashan Thompson that’s the guy 977 oque Seville 982 A Team Blake 992 I mean all three times amazingly across the board I agree with you I think Lyles would probably be the 100 meter betting favorite like Thompson has no no experience running rounds he’s never been to a major championship like competing so you know senior Championship competing so it’s like there’s so many like he could get injured before then so but just to see Raw Talent like that in the first race of the year come out it’s stunning I mean it really is I think Noah I I mean yeah beforehand I was like oh can curly challenge him sevil probably sevil looks good all the time at Worlds in the semis that hasn’t brought it in the final so it’s like what’s GNA happen and now I’m just like wow I mean if if anyone’s going to dominate the Olympics I don’t think it’s no Wilds in 100 someone’s going to crush the field I think it’s kashan Shane I don’t even know how to say his name Thompson so is Coleman more comments here is Coleman gonna retire absolutely not this guy had to do a what what was he year end up being year and a half drug Bann whatever for missing test the money’s still good what else is this guy guy GNA do for the money like he made the LA Olympics 2028 but he’s still like what the OB top 500 meter Sprinter in the world um he’s gonna stay around but who knows he might he might appeal for the Michael Johnson League Al the league totally favors doubling people and we said we just know that he’s better at doubling than you think but this whole Michael Johnson League this isn’t really the time to talk about it but K Sean Thompson the guy’s not going to double he can’t run 200 so we don’t want the if this guy’s the Olympic 100 meter champion in this league same thing with Shaker she’s obviously not as good at the 200 so if Gabby Thomas did Bo bet both her time cumulative time might be better than Shaker’s and she should win over shary every event’s gonna favor the longer distance person so I don’t know we should just call it the the doubling League I hope it succeeds and I with that amount of money you can get the top stars but I think in certain events people aren’t going to want to run it the 100 meter Champion also is the one guy who like 100 grand for winning a race like I I can get an appearance fee for that much somewhere else I was thinking it’s going to be huge for someone like Freddy kitton who’s running for tracksmith because he can go to that thing finish even he finishes fourth four times a year he gets $160,000 he’s got nothing now so be good for him but um you know reminder no alls did lose to Seville on June 1 in Jamaica so kind of so maybe he wouldn’t be the betting favorite um I was actually looking this up here randomly looking up Norwegian national championships results we can talk about yaka being a father we’re crushing it thank you folks for joining us the earlier start I don’t know if it’s the weekend or what but we we’re we’re basically approaching old WNBA tenance records right now we’re over a thousand people we’re 1300 people live on the internet welder so all we need is our Caitlyn Clark and we can go 10 times that we have like 13,000 people on here actually I think you forgot to add the ads so we’re just doing this for free right now so you don’t want to be a free loader join the supporters club today letsrun.com subscribe better runningshoes.com at least buy a shoe do something to support the site and all right so that’s basically it I mean I guess Sydney McGlone ran the well you had the 110 you know we talk about hard team breaking news Robert we had the hundred hurdles simis Elisa Johnson Tonio Mitchell and Maria Russell I mean these aren’t household names these are not the household names in the event for America they all R the three fastest times 1236 Kenny harison was 1252 ne le 1255 so but you know it’s going to be a sick final as usual and then Sydney G lone did run a world leader 5248 I think that’s 100th of a second faster than what was the world leader and the cro also in the 52s Shamir little who somehow often seems not to make teams who run 5349 Delila Mohamad the former Olympic champ former world record holder only the six fastest qualifier 5416 today no I did not see the breaking news somebody may have found Olympic betting odds in 100 meters here I’m not I said I would give him Philip Wilson well in my fanuel now is anyone else seeing these I said they’ give out a free shirt so also like oh Jonathan G’s back I think there’s a way somehow on YouTube I don’t know if actually this is enabled anymore you give a tip any tip you will get your comment on here the money will go to Jonathan G just do it to support Jonathan right now wait am I I’m seeing Noah alls is plus 155 at the Olympics on FanDuel in what event I don’t know trying to figure that out I said if someone could find Olympic odds they would okay the hund probably fair I was going to saying the 200 like free money go bet that but I mean I guess we I didn’t hear you guys talk about the 200 so Kenny Beric ran him pretty close right today but talking to I didn’t talk to Kenny I did talk to Noah and he was essentially saying look I’ve been in this situation before he was thinking back of uh he didn’t mention 2022 usas Robert what are you wanting me to do can you just tell me your mic is in the wind or it’s you’re a little bit too close to your mic I I can’t I can’t change the wind I’m afraid but uh he’s like look I’ve been in this situation before I knew I was going to come back I look ridiculous doing this I’m like gossiping about Noah take the wind from the other side John okay well anyway Noah said I’ve been here before I knew that I have the best speed uh I have the best top speed I can hold it longer so I knew Kenny was going to fade and I was get faster and that’s what happened so he got the win Bic still looked good uh I mean what 1959 PB second place but ly beat him in the 100 he beat in the 200 ly very very R lyes hasn’t lost this event since the 2021 Olympics right no one’s beaten him since Tokyo so and John what ly says is backed up by the stats I didn’t realize this he was actually 8 Behind at 150 so first 100 1031 for w now I’ve heard from people who know they said these these splits are not totally accurate these 50 meter splits but anyways 1031 for LS at 100 1026 for berer 200 is 1081 1481 to 1489 benic still ahead he’s actually ahead by by more but then L just crushed him in the last 50 meters he runs 464 Bic runs 478 which is also what n and ran for the last 50 478 so he wins by 0.006 yeah then knon I mean 1977 I okay he’s run 194 but for him to run 1977 in the US final after not racing all season because of this uh positive test provisional suspension situation I think that’s pretty good he needed to be on the team he put himself on the team he has time to get things you know to improve a little bit I mean there’s really for Nan there’s there’s really no shame if he finishes third at the Olympics between Behind these two guys that’s how good they are but for him to come out and he I asked him like how much he didn’t want to stop long than mixone knon but to his credit he did stop and do interviews for about 90 seconds which is more than can be said for some some other athletes this week so yeah he was basically saying look I I trust my coaches and my support system to get me through it and you know obviously he was still able he was still able to train right he wasn’t able to race and he shows up 1977 against the very competitive field to make team I think he’ll take that if you’re United one guy we haven’t discussed is sorry John one guy we didn’t discuss is Courtney Lindsay put him up on the screen there sixth place now the US is so tough you know this is the guy who was the 100 meter champion last year Texas Tech made the 200 team last year for the US right and but this year he opened up with a 1988 and 1971 the 1971 was at altitude but then I mean then he was 2001 in Doha 2009 in Pre like and 20 flat here it’s just that that’s a guy who’s got to be secretly disappointed I don’t think he’d be secretly disappointed I’m sure he went in hoping he would make the team but like you said well then he had that really impressive race against uh tobogo in Nairobi but then his his recent form hadn’t been quite as good and you there’s no margin for error in this event I mean these three guys L ber Eric knon they gobble up all the medals at the global championships and to be you know essentially if you were Courtney Lindsay and you want to be on this team or Christian Coleman or Kyrie King anyone who didn’t make the team you essentially have to be an Olympic medalist caliber athlete uh because the only guy I would say outside of these three it’s it’s these three in tobogo those are really the ones I see battling it out for the bals in this event programming note I checked my FanDuel so I don’t know what you’re saying John about while was coming through because I was checking the betting odds and Olympics Scotty shefford in the golf at plus 310 you look a good bet I I didn’t place the betat but I didn’t see Athletics I didn’t see Athletics betting but you can bet on golf with the Olympics so if someone maybe it is state by state so someone can send me a screenshot of the betting odds WJ let run.com we letsrun.com that would be helpful and you’ll get a free let’s run shirt so all the Athletics betting ODS please send me send me that and tell me what state you’re in all right helpful I was thrilled by nighton but we don’t know enough about sprinting I will remind you that the fastest 200 he’s ever run his life was his oper in 2022 and he were in 1949 now maybe been Wendy there I mean fanul ran like 199 in that race so sometimes these guys do start off better than they are at the end of season I mean right uh Michael Norman did that in the open 400 a couple years ago ran a great first race of the year and then didn’t back it up right just YouTube comment right before you got on someone want to know which is more likely who sets the world record tomorrow Sydney or Ry Benjamin to me this ansers it’s Sydney yes she’s been lossing really fast times all year I mean Benjamin has done 46 six right this year but he’s not going to have the other guys to push him and Sydney I guess Sydney’s not going to be pushed either but we’ve seen her kind of solo World Records Ry I I think it’s Sydney’s broken the world record four times ry’s never broken it so yeah the answer is obviously Sydney I guess Robert did we mention Christian Coleman in the 400 I mean two fourth places at the Olympic trials that’s just a rough spot to be in um fourth in the 100 fourth in the 200 he he ran better than I thought he would in the 200 honestly like to come back from the devastation of getting fourth in the 100 he’s never been an amazing 200 Runner I know he’s run some fast times but he’s clearly his skill set is better suited to the 100 and that’s why he’s run it more as a pro he just missed his PB he was 1989 his PB is 1985 from back his senior year of college so I think Coleman actually ran a great race and I was impressed that he’s able to bounce back and be competitive but again same situation as Kyrie King and uh Cody Lindsay this is just a really really hard team to make but that’s that’s a tough spot to be in fourth of two trials it’s extremely hard but we saw it last night by the way if if you’re watching this show now you don’t come daily to the website shame on you but Jonathan G John I’ve been getting frustrated my old age it’s hard to stay up till 2 am 3: a.m. writing these Recaps and stuff and in the year 2024 is is is print journalism there’s any need to write up Recaps and then I got up this morning and I read your 110 AR recap and I’m like yes there is it was a brilliant piece of Journalism so thank you for writing it and if you haven’t read it folks you need to go to the website it just puts the whole race in perspective like the fourth Placer in the men’s 110 hurdles last night ran faster than anyone who’s ever gotten the silver medal at the Olympics has ever run so you can run an amazing performance a performance that would would get you a medal at the Olympics and still not make this this us team in the Sprint that’s how good they are and you know uh knon ran what 1977 tonight yeah so for Coleman to beat that he’s got to be in the top 30 all time he’s got to be one of the 30 greatest sprinters in the 200 meters of all time so it’s that’s just hard to do um Matthew Rob says on YouTube I’ve been less to the website been less I’ve been to the website less than 20 times shame on you Matthew shame on you you must be less than 20 years of age but anyways as stats has it here I calculate V have an average performance score of 1228 this is 28th I don’t have her 1228 I also have her 28 though I have her at 1213 I have um schweer at 1209 if if you’re wondering how much the few thousands of a second M made it’s only a fivepoint swing so it’s five more for Valby five less for um for schweer so if it hadn’t happened right it would have been 2421 for Balby and 24 yeah I don’t think you need to get hung up on the details Robert because I think they’re gonna both make it and I ask P of Valby I did speak to her in the mix Zone in between my appearances here on the show and she said we want really hung on times because my coach I talked to them beforehand and they figured we could actually we had a lot of wiggle room uh I think they kind of looked at where she would fit on the rankings and then took into effect some of the people who might scratch or the fact that you know ISO was unlikely to finish on the top three here Monson wasn’t here anyway she said they didn’t discuss specific times but they usually they just did the same thing they usually do is she would look to her coach throughout the race and if she needed to pick it up he would tell her to pick it up he did that at 2K which is when she took off but she essentially was I asked her like if you had to go earlier in the race to run the time to get in the rankings would he have told you you know will Palmer her coach Sam samtha Palmer his her coach she’s like yeah I think he would have so um I think they’re going to end up being all right but she was aware that you know there was a situation where she had to run at least some semi time she said the heat didn’t bother her though and she said it was a relie it was kind of a relief not to leave in a way she said she didn’t realize the emotional toll that leading all of those races particularly the Olympic trials final had taken on her and it was she en you know enjoyed not having to lead this race and I think she she proved that she can run behind in a pack and look comfortable doing it good congrats to her and I mean I guess it was not public but it’s a good thing that the let’s run internal chat with interns and some of these people in this podcast was not made public people were going at rate she’s LED every race this year why isn’t she doing it she’s kissing ing her Olympic dream bot goodbye so even the best of us can be uninformed I’m not going to say who was texting that just it wasn’t me um was not me I mumbl my words people might have thought I said it was me but all right enough I can’t well I guess we’ve got thousands of listeners right now on the live show via Facebook YouTube X we’re now live on what’s other thing called Instagram and now for the first time only and only fans my only fans account Lisa W on there paying me $35 an hour to do it wait can we can we call out this comment here from Colin Baker in the chat he says because you know you’re calling out the visitor who only listens to the podcast doesn’t come to the website Colin Baker says I have only a hundred over a hundred not Anonymous names on the let’s run forums and they all have their own style I that’s just the idea of he’s got all these burner accounts on the forums and one of them’s like you know it’s just it’s I’m having a good time pick Shing that wait this Colin Baker guy Colin do I know you the name sounds familiar are you supporters CL member email me Robert let’s run I might just send you a free shirt if you’re not because look at this comment John when you came back on ah John G’s back on to ruin the fun so you know wait that’s the same guy who made the account that I thought was hilarious the funny comment I got to give him respect I got to give him respect Robert it’s a funny comment whether he wants to know what beers I’m drinking I I generally trying to hide the beers I’m drinking if you’re a youngster never drink it’s terrible just kidding but one this is the duck pin we have duck Pin bowling you don’t even know what that is it’s a Baltimore thing it’s like miniature bowling from Union Brewery it’s my favorite is it the same is it same as candle pin bowling no it’s it’s very similar to the Boston thing yes okay and then we have the Baltimore blonde from Guinness which used to be made in Baltimore now it’s sadly like broed New York inspired by Baltimore so all right who tomorrow I was like supports members don’t have time to listen an our podcast on their commute no one’s commuting to work on Sunday though so you’re going for your long run you’re you’re training right now you’re starting your Chicago marathon training you’re listening to us you can do it you can achieve your dreams just like I’m gonna break through in the marathon soon but tomorrow we have obviously a lot of finals because every the entire meet has to finish tomorrow terms of we we’ve got we’re starting off with the men’s hammer throw with my boy Ry Winkler of Cornell University women’s pull VT men’s high jump men’s triple jump women’s Javelin could tell you about much of that stuff men’s 5000 draag finals men’s 800 women’s 100 hurdles women’s 1500 men’s 4 hurdles and women’s 4 hurdles so we got the three distance events men’s 5,000 men’s eight men’s women’s 1500 I I like of the come on the men’s 5000 is extremely hard for me because I’m trying to iner britson has changed everything iner britson versus cerr versus Whiteman and you watch the Speed and who’s got the best kick and whatnot so I’m trying to break this down John why don’t you break it down first make your pick then I can analyze it and and be smart also I’m gonna look up the weather forecast for 4:30 p.m. tomorrow I’m looking it up right now it’s going to be 81 degrees in Sunny that is H for a 5K and I I don’t think the race is that hard to break down in terms of what style of race it’s going to be I think predicting the outcome might be tough but look you’ve got someone with the US trials champion in the 1500 with an enormous kit Cole Hawker and you’ve got Grant Fisher who’s very good at grinding from the front uh he’s Grant fer is GNA take off probably sometime with around three laps to go give or take a lap to try to shake free of Cole Hawker and obviously um Woody conade can kick as well AB no if you look at how he ran this race last year he took off with like a k to go so I think it’s going to be Fisher or no taking it off at that with roughly 1,200,000 to go and trying to drop Cole Hawker and I don’t think he’s gonna do it I I think I got a roll with Cole Hawker I’ve been sucking in by that 1500 nus tried to drop him and couldn’t do it I think he’s super strong I’m I’m going Cole Haw for the win wow but in terms of I guess it’s not all the kick is not necessarily based on your 1500 meter PB is it like trivia what is Woody con cage 1500 meter P it’s irrelevant yeah D can kick what is ABD Hamed n’s 00 meter PB what is Grant Fisher’s 00 met PB what is fish is 334 Fisher just ran 334 in New York and no I think has run 335 I guess King K’s like 336 but we we don’t need to say oh this is their 1500 PB so that means they this is their kicking ability in a hot Championship 5K no I’ve seen these guys race 5Ks I kind of know how big that kicks are but I’m saying like we also got to throw cerer in the mix like we’ve got a number of guys it’s based on like okay if you wait till the last lap K Kate’s going to beat them all right I mean that one lap to go can K beat them all Haw Hawker oh I forgot about Hawker no Hawker beats him all so g k g Kade screwed now we we now have oh wow yeah make a prediction guys we’re gonna take this for know this is gonna L all night make it call well there’s somebody in the comments saying if Hawker wins he PBS no way his PB is 1258 correct in this heat it’s not a 13-minute race I don’t think it’s going to happen I I don’t know like I think 1315 or something would be good I don’t know the game has changed so much but I I don’t know John what they run at the Olympics some years but this is also the Olympics just run at night this is 4:30 in the afternoon there should be some heat from the Sun I guess it’s not like 1M but I don’t know I I think it’s it’s a little hot for that man I keep going back and forth on this one I don’t think Hawker is going to win it so that means they have to take fiser I think ner probably sits on him come on Grant Fisher we’re in the damn thing I’m going Grant Fisher it’s one of those three guys in my book that’s my team right there which team I got Hawker winning Fisher second and Noah third I think that’s what I put in the prediction contest but I had Hawker winning and then the other two in some order but also do I see Fisher like Hawker not hanging close enough that he can’t get to them like I could see Hawker not getting third either it seem like he either wins it or maybe is in top three so I don’t that’s what I’m sort of struggling with I think I think that’s what happens he either either gets dropped or he wins the thing yeah I kind of that that scenario doesn’t really work think one of those W Parker wolf I don’t think he’s got the endurance I think he gets dropped oh I mean no I I think there are guys I mean paa wolf uh kupaa and sha mordi and Woody Kade I wouldn’t be stunned if any of them run their way onto onto the team in the better running shoes prediction contest I I just looked it off I I changed my picks apparently to Fisher n tier I’ve always said tier I’m just a coward because I’ve been bashing tier for years now I pick him on the teams I can say oh I got this back but I just I’m trying to think of like I don’t have Hawker on there but I guess I’m just thinking that it’s going to be hot they’re going to push it hawker’s already on the team I think they might want to push it farther out I might want to push it you wait till a thousand and haw can just hang on hang hang hang on you push 12 1400 meters out and then I was just debating whether you know who who’s got the best kick you know n has run 335 can cage by the way his PB is 337 Fisher what you say John 334 tiers run 332 obviously so okay guys just make a pick we still got the 800 1500 I just I’m saying I’m G to stick with it but I somehow think like why wouldn’t TI I know he ran bad than 500 but why wouldn’t he make this team he’s a 1254 guy with a 332 15500 meter PB like that he’s faster than n at both 5,000 and 1500 well he didn’t make the team last year he didn’t make the team in 2021 and he didn’t run that well in the 1500 final I mean Robert if you if I told you the men’s 1500 meter final at USA is going to be a 330 race and it’s gonna take 331 make the team I would have been like great Co C Cole uh sorry koopa’s chances just shut way up and then he was 10th and he only ran 335 that’s a good point think about it the heat is not gonna help a big big white dude in the heat no it’s gonna help the African born guys they’re not even phased by it sun just reflects right off them and oh God savan it’s actually absorb but I think it’s the opposite right doesn’t the Sun get attracted to dark M matter but I don’t think that smaller people it’s not the the so much your skin color is I think it’s the size of the human being I do think tall people have problems in heat I’m regretting that pck now come on Cooper let’s do it okay let’s move to the next Final on the track which is the men’s 800 met we saw two guys 144 in the semis which was Brandon Miller and Hobs Bryce hobble ran a 440 sorry 144 o and looked like he was jogging at the end you’ve got sheno and the big kicker from UVA Clayton Murphy in there who’s won the last two trials Joe who was coach Scott Simmons texted me he’s like hey he’s don’t forget about this guy made the team in 2022 he’s running really well Josh hoey who has resurrected his career under Justin raldi I mean this is a lot of fun I think almost everyone in this final can can make the team maybe not to know to out the the Georgetown freshman but yeah it’s gonna be a good one who are your picks what did you say about Jonah kich John Jonah kich who made the team two years ago and his coach Scott skimmons Scott Simmons texted me and said he’s in great shape and ready to go and he just he has the Olympic standard I mean he he does he not have a shot didn’t he just run a PB in the semis like seems like he’s pretty fit yeah he’s obviously got a shot by the way it’s worth noting that a number of people in this race do not have the ranking and or do not have the standard or the ranking despite the fact that they take 48 the college kids and the guys that have not been in the big meets are kind of screwed here because um there’s already 40 people who have the standard worldwide they’re taking 48 so that’s only eight for the rankings and you know you’ve got these randos from like Venezuela who have run 145 that are getting you know 140 bonus points are winning the PanAm and stuff like that right H doesn’t have the standard ranking matasa and Co and the two college kids Murphy has the ranking everyone else in the field has the standard so I think mat SATA and Cohen actually probably give Cohen a slightly better chance than Hoy but Hoy looked very good in his semi Cohen I’m just a little worried you could see it in the semis he didn’t you know he was a little further back and he was able to kick down for third I mean he is a he’s a guy basically he could be lost with 200 to go and he runs down someone for third place uh I don’t think he’s a threat to win but how does he not I’ve got Cohen in third I had him in third in my pick but I’m interested in that I thought in the last race he tried to run up there he went like 52 59 but he Fades between six and 700 then he just rolls it down so he he’s got to worry about that 1447 though he’s close though from 144 high at NCAA Annie ran it I think in the semis as well so I think as long as the race is fast enough you know but that’s the question but has Miller been taking it out we don’t have like a noted front runner here other than him they just ran 143 in the semis I think for whatever reason somehow it’s going to be fast like we had two semifinals standard I think Brandon Miller or the way I see this race going down has Miller been leading John I haven’t been paying that much attention but oh I don’t I don’t think I don’t think he led the whole SE the whole semi right I think he got to the front eventually but if I my recollection is correct I I don’t think he led the whole thing so that was Friday they don’t even have so he’s the only guy they don’t have splits for but I love the comment that’s up in YouTube right now saying this is he’s often watching live Cohen does not have the strength to break 145 CS 88 are you aware that Cohen just broke 145 in the simes or you saying he’s gonna be too tired to do it again so he did break 145 so I think Miller or ho I think ho may just go to the front and just say I’m running 143 you guys three are three other guys doing that you have no trouble in in the front and you know I think he’ll be up there I had these thoughts today I’m like was I underestimating Hobs C for 800 chances like at the Olympics like could he be better in the final with one more round actually help him he’s the actually endurance guy like I don’t know if you run 143 in the Olympic final where does that put you these days no this year not very well this year it’s going to be tough if he was doing that a couple years ago when you know K was dominating yeah uh no I mean hey never count out a guy who’s already on the team with nothing that’s Hobs Kesler I I’m still going Hopple for the win uh but man who do I have making that team I’m trying to remember who pick for it’s it’s a oh Murphy I pa Murphy no one’s talked about Clayton Murphy at all I know he he kind of got caught up in some of the bumping but this guy shows up at usas and usually makes the team he did not make the team in 2022 I wouldn’t be surprised his races this year has not been fantastic but he usually gets it right at USA so I wouldn’t count that guy out wow wow I’m a huge Clayton Murphy fan I’d fallen off the train and now I feel like John’s like one of these guys who watch Joe Biden debate and said he did he didn’t look wasn’t old wow John I’m just sort of shocked you’re still clinging to it I thought he hasn’t looked good in either round a lot of guys look better than him I mean he barely be Jos Hoy people he didn’t beat Josh Hoy Josh Hoy won that prelim uh granted Clayton was caught up in some bumping early on but he’s in the final I I don’t disagree that other people have locked looked better than him in the rounds but he’s here and he has a history that’s all I’m saying screw it man Jagger’s out cro is out how many guys from the 2016 Olympics are in this even is anyone else actually John any 2016 distance Olympians on the team maybe any Olympian actually there gota be somebody thato make it R make it Murphy in 2021 he’s won the last two trials right John yeah did he win 2016 too it’s a long run trials 2016 and 2021 gosh you want five years AP 2021 Clayton Murphy 1484 indoors 45 147 147 oh coming into the trials he’d only run 145 31 that was the seasonal best he runs 147 for seventh at Randle Island then he runs 147 in the first round of the trials second place 146 in the simy first place 143 one in the final now this year he’s just but I I kept thinking okay when are we gonna get good Clayton Murphy but last year we never got it it was like 147 148 147 144 1449 149 1486 14 45 we never had the bust out and it’s the same thing this year like he’s gone 145 145 148 145 147 145 like is he now stuck at his age at 145 if he’s stuck at 145 he ain’t making this team 29 years of age but I thought that he to me the last 100 looked pretty good in the semi I’m not rolling out it’s just a fascinating race there’s no way you can predict this like there’s no way I don’t think it’d be an amazing scct it I don’t think Hoy let’s just do our picks no no we’re doing our picks this is taking too long H prefers for sure and then you guys got me on this train it’s h Kesler Murphy I don’t know why I’m picking Murphy he’s probably gonna get eth but I well if I was John I root for people I want him to make the team and they need to point out he’s a father he is this like premature baby and they play up all the all the mothers like so why can’t we play up Clayton Murphy as well if I was W my get better mothers get better actually they need to do studies Wellen actually get better after having babies right and we act like it’s a miracle that a woman comes back and competes no offense to my wife who’s sleeping upstairs I mean child birth she’s like I want you to see this it’s War I’m glad I saw it it’s hard but like we we’ve seen tons of women actually come back and be better after child birth so anyway carry cap Grace believes in that theory well then she thinks that you know get more blood volume or stuff she says scientific reasons behind it but anyway tougher for us to make picks and for Trump or Biden to answer questions yeah that’s a well hey I’ll make my picks when I’m asked for them I would go if I’m wed to my prediction contest picks I’m gonna change them though I’m gonna go Bryce H for the win Brandon Miller second Shane Cohen third that’s your team oh wait wait wait wait I have to pick Murphy over Brandon Miller I think Brandon Miller’s making this team okay I’m kicking C off I’m screwed I’m kicking Murphy off murky make the team and make my pick wrong who I think’s gonna think those my my three who was your third John Cohen no way Murphy Kessler I mean excuse me hoppel Kessler no there we go is has anyone seen John have you seen Nick Simmons at the trials can someone get him there to talk kid a pep talk Cohen we got a lot more can we keep going we have Nick Simmons mean Robbie Andrews we have a lot more to talk about Jim Walley has won the western states we have to break that down in great detail I’m weigh in on the Western States during the Olympic trials people want to know they want this added to the Olympics I see here in the comments we’ve not talked about the long jump Cherry Davis Woodhill almost blew it you guys see that yeah no she fouled the first two attempts and wasn’t certain I feel like I didn’t see the replay but it looked like she was pretty close to the line on the on the third attempt too but yeah she won the trial now she’s going going to 20K race walk 20K race walk Michelle roll third place Robert she’s 58 years old now Welden I’m about to un Robert I’m talking I’m about to unleash a hot take 58 years old that’s an incredible accomplishment but does that in some way devalue the race walk of a 58y old can finish in the top no it does not because Michael Ro her husband and Coach is one of the reasons why Le was Founders he helped give Welden advice about moving to Flagstaff back in the day he was the coach at division 2 Mansfield University which is right down the road for Cornell very good guy student of the sport and he recently was just pushed out so middle finger to everybody at mansfi to push this guy out he was a great dieh hard track and field coach they made an amazing video for him so Mike I love you 58- year old woman this is maybe oh my god I’ve got 2030 2032 Olympics here I come I’m I’m going to be in the race walk I’m gonna love it I’m gonna endorse it let’s walk.com she didn’t make the team she did not make the team she doesn’t have the standard but are you confusing stuff Robert like because you didn’t coach a Corell after I went to Flagstaff but anyway we can we can talk about that stuff okay why are we talking race walk we’ve got this women’s 1500 this is going to be another great race Ellie St Pierre trying to complete the double we got Heather mle and Emily McKai they want to go New Balance Boston one two three you got Nikki hiltz the reigning Champion you got Elise cranny doubling back you got Sinclair Johnson Addy wy’s in there lot of storylines who you guys I just want picks because I got some we not into this as much as the men’s it’s just they’re not as consistent as the men so it’s harder to analyze right well the the best Americans are among the very best in the world in the men’s 1500 that’s just not I mean in the women’s 1500 Ellie St Pia she’s among the best in the world she is a world indoor champ I but the Gap from you know faith kipon and the L you know if you look the L World Championships and Olympics the gap between the very the medalists and the top Americans a lot larger in the men on the women’s side than the men well Kevin leank says that Corey MC will find a way to get third I don’t think so because John go has pointed out she’s never broken four this race is going definitely under four so I actually think that I was thinking about this like this morning this is like the Orioles we had never been swept All Season then we got swept in the playoffs Cory McGee will break four tomorrow but make the Olympic team that’s what’s going to happen I I think they’re going to push this race I think it’s going to be a fast race Charles record gone I don’t even know what that is US Championship record gone and I think it’s gonna Scott Don in the comments here is saying the women’s race is more interesting because it’s more deeper compared to a men’s race where we saw eight guys run eight 333 or faster in the trials final I don’t get the logic on that one yeah he’s wrong hey hey don’t don’t rip Scott hey Scott Scott we need to hang out he he’s the weather reporter for the Baltimore Sun we’ve never hung out but I recognize the name right Scott email me Robert Al let’s run Robert let run my my my child’s now sex I can now have a social life I need friends in Baltimore um he says the women’s it’s not deeper right I mean by what strain I guess I’m kind of confused on the logic I think a bunch of women could break four in this race but the men’s race we just saw the deepest trials ever by by a lot terms of time like the top eight men broke the previous trials record okay and this is trying to claim that the New Balance distance spike is superior than Nike and Adidas well nobody would know it because they don’t sponsor any American men so how would we know like they seriously like New Balance needs to sponsor from American men like right can we call them out it’s like but I don’t know honestly if you want like a generation of high school males to like buer Spike you need to sponsors some American men um but you know the vast majority of of these days they’re going to put on a pair of Nike Spikes that has not changed right some these other companies may be making progress but I think at the default at these high school meets is still Nike so I think if opportunity their stock is down 20% on Friday John by by now by while you can that’s a fair point and Scott has also responded saying the men’s was easier to predict it’s there are more PE women who can make the team than men I actually do agree with that logic because I just list all those people I think Ellie St Pierre can make the team I think Nikki hiltz can make the team I think Heather mlan can make the team I think at least cranny could make the team I think mikai could make the team and I think Johnson could make the team so from that aspect I I I tend to agree with Scott and he’s actually right all right Scott we understand what you’re saying but I think not deeper in a sense of like the top Americans I think on the World level are better even St gold medalist I I had doubts about her John coming in I thought she was gonna smoke hilt simy just didn’t do a lot for me do I really think Hil is still only run 359 no he has to be hilts right I’m gonna go well St Pier Hilt Maggie K Kong no just kidding um before I was really gungho and cranny I think she got too much to bite off in this one doesn’t look great so then it’s it’s the third what who’s my other balance one McKay or mlan John McKay’s better now right am I supposed to go there I’m think I’m going to go Emily McKay she has been better this year uh she’s R 157 in the 800 I mean Heather McLean’s run 158 in the 800 this year which is no slouch my prediction is I think a fost rates suits La St Pierre I wouldn’t want to be kicking against all these women if I were her my prediction is she’ll do similar to L trials she’ll go out she’ll try to run 357 she will run 357 will that be enough to get the win I’m not 100% sure but I I think I’m backing St Pierre to win it in 357 and then maai and hilts rounding out the team both of them 358 that’s how I see it I think it’ll be F you think she can yak a bit and stay ahead because she I feel like she tried that in the Sim they came on her at the end so I’m like maybe she’s not yaka better maybe she’s like n and she’s gonna get kicked down she only needs to be in the top five in the semi I mean I guess the the concern is this is her fifth race of the trials she you know is doubling back from the five but uh she the Lost trials and won so I think she could do it again because I think she’s better than she was in 2021 yeah Kevin LeBlanc here I can’t see how it’s not ESP and maai one and two I mean I can see a different outcome but I I think that’s your one twoo right there they’ve been the best women this year have you seen Nikki hilts the last couple years very good so CS Martin 88 does know that the High School record holder was broken New Balance spikes okay then start sponsoring some American men so we can see this thank you New Balance gr blanks has an nil so we’ll see if he signs Pro with them once he graduates toota matasa has a new balance nil so yeah it it will be nice to it’ll be nice to see him sponsor more americ man all right I think that’s going to do it for night n of the US Olympic trials 2024 we’ll be back tomorrow earlier meet tomorrow ends at 8:30 p.m. eastern time so we’ll be on shortly after that but yeah we got non-stop finals uh because it’s the final day of the trials got three distance finals we’ve got both 400 hurdles finals we’ve got the women’s 100 hurdles finals which has been very competitive and then a bunch of field finals so very excited for it thanks everyone for tuning in got some great viewership numbers tonight helps that it’s ending a little earlier and it’s Saturday night but appreciate everyone listening live and if you like this podcast sign out for the let’s r supporters Club let’s run.com subscribe and you can get this on demand as a podcast and Robert looks very frustrated because he didn’t get to weigh him with his 1500 picks but he was also off you know the camera was doing all sorts of things I wasn’t sure where you had gone to if you had been kidnapped again Robert so if you want to offer your 1500 takes go ahead I just wanted to hear your analysis because I respect your opinion John no you picked no my picks are already in I just I don’t know what to expect John did not have hilts on the team right yes I did I had hilts third okay good I don’t see how she doesn’t make it but then I don’t even know who I picked officially they it’s not that hard anyway oh CS Martin was asking me to log in from the wild duck tomorrow night I am planning on going there at some point but I’m not sure if it’s going to be during the podcast that would be probably because I have to write some stuff afterwards but Robert make your 1500 pick I have I had same p maai and Hils but it’s hard to lead from the front is St Pier’s PR John we have the rule in the men is your PR three seconds better than everybody else’s is it better than three seconds better than Ma’s no mackai are run 359 and so is hilts and St Pierre is 3580 oh sorry no St Pierre is 3560 from the pre-classic so it is 3 seconds better than everyone else okay okay and I have one one last topic here we we were talking about fathers and W wants to celebrate fatherhood because W and I are both fathers did y’all see what yaka Bing Bron did I mean we can talk about this in Tuesday in the Regular Show he’s now a father his wife gave birth like four days ago when his wife called him he was in St meritz now I don’t know how far away St Moritz is from Norway but it’s not close he said okay honey she’s like I’m having contractions yob went out ran a workout got on a plane flew home it wasn’t like a private jet it was a scheduled plane it was 5 hours after she called got home walked inside for 30 minutes they decided to go to the hospital he drops her off the hospital goes to the track does another workout comes back in yeah is there for the pushing gets the cut B record shows up at the at the Nationals wins to 1500 334 and then wins to 5,000 it wasn’t entered in the 5,000 just says hey I’m gonna run the 5,000 they let him run it I was wondering if he wanted to stick it to nordos and wins that too so crazy week for that guy but did he play PJ no it sounded like he had a plan like like he was scheduled like he was gonna be coming home now I wanted to know did did they put the Nationals in his hometown just so that she could have the baby and he could hang out in Nationals I was thinking that too Robert I’m like wow did they just do it because they knew that she was pregnant but also one Elizabeth asserson patient she must be a saint if she’s letting yakob go off and do all this stuff willy-nilly and still train I mean it is an Olympic year but still like that is really a lot of patience but I’m glad it all worked out like yakob got his workout it it did sound like the day she gave birth or maybe the day after she gave birth he took a day off to be with the baby uh according to that article from nrk Robert it was a terrific article like a lot of good details and I’m glad you brought it to my attention seeing on the message Bo because it is pretty wild and no wait this could actually seriously we’re talking about being a father this really could impact the Olympics now it sounds like this guy’s locked down and loaded but uh are Nanny are night nurses a thing in in Sweden or is this guy G to be W woken up in the why would it matter if in swed if night no is or thing in Sweden what why would Norway excuse me Norway figured that you knew where he’s from at this point no I I mean my assumption knowing yakobin how serious he is about this thing I’m wondering if he’s sleeping in the spare bedroom but they definitely would hire a nanny or something I can’t imagine that he would have you know a one Monon year old daughter be derailing his sleep schedule right up to the Olympics I don’t think he some we you’re really bond with them my wife got on formula and I would feed her at night I really bond with the kids the real question is though like when he the wife’s like I’m in labor and he’s did he say oh I’m coming home sweetie and then he goes and does the workout or was he up front it’s like my neighbor one time I get a call from his wife and she’s like I can’t find him he left the bar and then I found him within like 20 seconds of calling him then I’m like oh I fig fig this one out yeah he hadn’t left the bar when he told you he left the bar I think the next flight was five hours away so he just figured I have a few hours to play with before the flight leaves I’m going to fit a workout in it’s not like he could have done anything to get there faster I think that’s the situation correct now I I think that he had some weird quote to like could we inspired by your baby he’s like well I was inspired as much as you can be by a three-day year old like but he did have the shirt off he bonded with the skin skin contact I only did that a few times but I I posted the article up on the message board and then the first response is he is who we all wish we were and he gets 50 up votes five down votes but I mean I I do think that like the wife is very forgiving maybe this is where the American men go wrong all we’ve got to do is ex is take the wife’s last name and then we can get away with just being doing whatever the hell we want so because his name is now yakob asherson inab britson so if I change my name to like Robert I don’t want to say my last last name she’s a very private person blank Johnson then I can like just go running like when she’s going into labor is that a thing in Switzerland taking the woman’s name oh my godland well how drunk are you robbert’s the one I feel like some I mean I can’t believe this Switzerland and Sweden and people were asking I’m not in Eugene I came back from Eugene I’m it took me two days to get adjusted from my 3:30 a.m. Uber to the airport for my 5 a.m. F like WIP me out for two days but okay I have an update on the betting odds we do not have full betting odds I think I will still friend send this guy a free t-shirt go to shop. letsrun.com for your shirt but Nathan from Virginia said I they only had a 100 I did not get a screenshot of the whole list he sent me his bet confirmation um he’s like generally speak speaking if they take an entire vent off the book it means they had an error in the line it’ll be interesting to see what it updates to so he bet Noah LS I see it right have confirmation plus 155 on Noah W to win the Olympic 100 meters he bet $25,000 on I’m just kidding $25 so okay if you if You’ got betting odds email me weo letsrun.com because we do want to start playing up the Olympics that sort of stuff and sports books come on put them out there so plus 155 is is that good news for Rojo because that’s only a 39.2% employee win rate so that would mean that he would not win the gold medal and that he’s G win the 200 oh God uh you still got a shot I mean benic wasn’t that far away tonight Robert you still got a shot but I and so yeah what did John what did Noah say about V again he just said I’ve been in the situation before I knew that he would falter and I’d catch him essentially it was interesting that Robert did you see that them showing his mother during the race yeah she looked nervous like they weren’t she just kind of like and then the stepfathers just sitting there kind of chill I care who you are like the Olympic trials is nous for everyone you know she wasn’t like confident like you got him I feel like you had him you know I would been like yeah she didn’t like sort of like oh that wasn’t like dominant Victory let’s celebrate she’s kind of like oh wow I just kind of barely won there’s record all right thanks everyone for tuning in we will be back tomorrow tomorrow reminder me ends at 8:30 Eastern so shortly after that we’ll be going go at 9 9 sounds make sense to me I still understand like the end the meet at 8:30 what are they going to do for the next 30 minutes on television just like have a of all the days why is it earlier tomorrow like wait that the broadcast is it not ending till 9ine tomorrow though well I assume because the last event is like at 8:31 okay all right well I will I been ending at 10 and 11 every day why why 8:30 tomorrow makes no sense to me shocker those in charge of usatf and NBC don’t know what they’re doing maybe it’s NBC telling them this is when the TV window is it means being show nationally on NBC on Sunday I’m fine with them moving it earlier it’s not a big deal is there gymnastics after it in a prime time probably that would be my guess all right till tomorrow I can’t believe we did 1 hour and 42 minutes in a day there’s one distance final but congrats obviously wayy kot won the race great race but Parker Valby she did it she’s an Olympian when I see when I see the when I see four digits for the live show I just gotta keep talking people are obviously enjoying it oh yeah Robert can’t help himself all right thanks for tuning in everyone so long
