all right guys Battle of the minis in this hand I’ve got the tailor made mini burner driver and in this hand got the brand new Callaway mini driver we’re going to test it in three categories off the tea in standard setting off the floor in standard setting and then we’re going to crank these two Mini Drivers to their maximum distance setting and see what they can do I can’t wait to see what comes out on top [Music] I mean first off very different looking head covers like we’ve got tail May going for kind of the old school burner bubble driver type Vibe even with the the the old school shape of head cover which I like the shape I don’t know if I quite like the color scheme in that and then you’ve got the actual Callaway AI mini driver this is almost a mini head cover of the driver quite simply this feels this Paradigm driver feels very much like a a shrunken down version of the AI smoke Paradigm driver where this ta made feels like a very different Golf Club it doesn’t it’s not like a a stealth or it’s not like a qi1 it’s its own club in its own right um as I mentioned I’m going to test these in three categories they’re both in 13 and 1 12° these two heads you can get both of them in 11 and 1/2 but I’ve got both in 13 1/ 12° they both have movable weights one at the front one at the back now I’ve put them both with the weight at the back so the tailor maid has a 13 G weight at the back and a 1 and 1/2 G weight at the front the cway has a 12 G weight at the back and a 4 G weight at the front head size there is a difference the Callaway is 340 CC but the tail made is Minier smaller at 304 CC wise Callaway they’re both actually limited edition Callaway is £399 the tailmate is £379 um let’s hit them off the off the tea first in standard setting these are 13 and 1 12° uh let me just have a quick look at the shaft length yeah shaft length is identical um they’re both actually in stiff Flex any there not much other differences really this is going to be a really really good head-to-head I’m going to go tailor made first off the tea okay first shot with the tailor maid nice a little bit a little bit off the bottom but absolutely straight down the Fairway there’s a few things I want to test this on not just distance accuracy like why are you putting a mini driver in the bag because you want accuracy something we’re going to test in this uh video as well distance is definitely one still cuz you still want it to go a decent distance as a little bit off the bottom a little bit spinny tail may can do better than that as I mentioned earlier it’s so it’s so different this driver this mini driver compared to any other club tailor made have brought out uh like I say it is a real throwback to like bubble drivers back in the day even the coloring scheme you’ve got this kind of almost gold color and then you’ve got almost this kind of Darker Carbon on top it’s a good looking head certainly behind the golf ball not sure if I’m a full fan of it kind of sat in my hand there it’s just I don’t know it’s a bit almost a bit too old school in a weird way um but it’s still packed full of Technology that’s the thing right we just need to strike it a little bit higher on the face it’s always difficult first switching back to a mini driver after hitting normal drivers cuz they do feel just a little bit different in your hands that was better a lovely golf shot right I’m going to get a bunch of that’s nice a bunch of shots with the tailor made and then we’ll switch over to the [Music] Callaway okay so this the last one for the tailor made off the tea a lot of them have been very straight I just hit one Rogue one that went left but all in all pretty accurate let’s finish off with one more with the tailor made off the tea yeah even that I mean that’s pretty straight is it tiny little pull but it’s fine in every Fairway okay so switching over to the Callaway AI smoke mini driver as I mentioned it’s a little bit bigger in size 340 CCC um it just looks like a shrunk down version of the AI smoke um I I personally looks wise this wins for me it does look a little bit more modern like just a bit more advanced possibly um but that’s only looks aesthetic if you change the color of this could look totally different but how they’ve done it I think is perfect um right I’ve got this again in the same Loft 13.5 de uh I can’t wait at the end of this video when I crank these two drivers down into power setting what they can do so I think I can re I honestly think I can absolutely crush him if I get him in the right setting right again just in 13 and a half degrees looks wise behind the ball is a bigger footprint um but it just looks like a Junior’s AI smoke driver that’s the best way of describing it looks like a Junior’s [Music] Club oh it’s a good strike off the first one but I’ve overdrawn it that would miss the Fairway but it felt really good that’s better that’s the one that is absolutely perfect that’s weird one thought it’s going to fade [Music] [Music] okay let’s go one more of the calor off the tea that’s pretty nice all right then C off the floor next [Music] he [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right guys the results are in mini versus mini like I say I’m going to put them in strong power setting in a minute but in standard 13 and A2 degrees nothing changed weight exactly the same this was the result so if we look at Tade burn mini driver first 245 yards of carry distance 261 total distance spin rate just over and half th000 RPM which is good 14 degrees of launch angle ball speed 153 mil miles hour and my club head speed with the mini burner was around about 106 and a half miles per hour okay what was interesting with the mini burner my dispersion was just a little bit wider from left to right but a lot of them hit the Fairway I think the the the one that went miles left and one that just leaked a little bit too far right stretched that dispersion out a little bit but all in all all a lot of them were very very very very straight Callaway AI mini driver right this is interesting if we look at the data here the carry distance on the mini on the Callaway was 251 yards six yards longer seven yards total distance at 268 spin rate just that little bit lower 3 and a half thousand launch angle almost identical ball speed just a little bit faster Club headed speed identical 1062 milph with each Club what was interesting with the cow way I saw a very similar shot pattern a lot of them were just either slightly drawing to the left of Target line or almost going straight left of Target line but not by a lot and if you look at the dispersion ring of the Callaway it’s actually a little bit tighter orbe it just a little bit left of Fairway or left side of Fairway I would say that’s how it just picked up that little bit more of extra distance just that little bit of a pull a little bit of a draw for me pick that little bit of extra distance up but we’re talking six yards what I also did I’ve hit both clubs off the floor now what was interesting off the floor we actually see the results slightly change the tail made mini driver was actually carrying further at 239 yards and i’ solely put that down to the size of the head I felt like hitting the tail made off the floor was easier it’s a shallow head profile it’s a slightly smaller head for me it seemed a lot easier to hit off the floor now that was a 239 with a one really bad hit that carried about 250 and 220 yards so actually I think the average would probably be even closer to what it would normally be off the T spin rate you can see there 3 thou 3,800 ball speed 153 so I think generally off the four the Tailor Made Driver is almost exactly the same as it is off the T with the Callaway a little bit different this head size suits being on a little bit of a t when it goes off the floor it’s just that fraction harder to hit with that slightly bigger face profile I couldn’t I didn’t feel like I could really get underneath the ball that reflected a little bit in the in the numbers 236 carry distance so quite a bit bit of a drop off compared to off the te higher spin rate slightly higher launch I was trying to almost lift it up a little bit more and even in the Calla I hit one really bad one similar to Taylor Maid that carried around about 215 220 yards I think if they were all hit good those averages would probably be closer to their off the te distances I just think the Tade was easier to hit off the floor I enjoyed hitting both of them I did personally for me I do seem to kind of edge looks wise feel Wise performance- Wise to the Callaway but it is close you know there’s not a lot in it next up we’re going to have a little bit of fun I’m going to crank these down to the lowest setting so 11 and A2 degrees on both I’m going to put the weight to the front and let’s see if we can absolutely rip it and see what total distance we can get out of these drivers okay here we go three shots each power mode the tailor made does have an advantage you can crank it down by two whole degrees so this is in 13 and a half degrees actually I didn’t realize the Callaway only goes down one it goes up two right weight forward low spin I don’t know could it could one of these get over 300 I think it could you know oh not without that strike I suppose that’s the disadvantage when you go for a shot I that’s horrendous when you hit try and hit it harder you don’t have as much Club face to try and hit oh that was a bad first one for the tailor made the one thing I do feel like you can do that we swing it faster because it’s kind of smaller and lighter it feels like you can like you know get it going a little bit that’s better might be a little bit High flighted 108 mph Club head speed two in it’s in the 270s is it going to get 300 total not quite 293 total okay one more come on 293 to [Music] beat oh I don’t if I quite got every bit of it oh it’s a bit loose 108 m per cled speed again no it’s going to be short okay Cal up next 293 total distance to beat as again I’ve cranked it down but only by one degree put the weight forward it’s not as heavy a weight it’s slightly lighter really everything is against this one beating the tail made apart from it’s a bigger head so maybe it’s slightly easier to hit the middle right oh it’s good it’s a good direction but I didn’t catch it as well as I need to okay not a bad opening shot but it can do better that’s fast that’s long that’s over 300 yards 109 m per hour Club head speed it’s absolutely dead straight oh it’s not quite got the distance 286 total distance I mean I take off fa T shot every day but it’s not quite caught up with the tailor made one shot to go all right guys last shot if you enjoyed the video be sure to like leave a comment down below which of the Mini drivers do you prefer can this get over 300 yards oh there’s chances but it’s a bit leaky I think it’s a bit too high up in the air bit too floaty it’s not going to do it guys tailor made has gone has done the Callaway on distance in power setting but it’s a close call on everything else thanks for watching we’ll see you next time

  1. What's the point of a mini driver? I feel like I hit my 3 wood better because the head is smaller. Maybe I need to look into this?

  2. Honestly, what’s the point of a mini driver? A driver is supposed to be the most forgiving and go the farthest. Is it just a money grab?

  3. Love the mini driver reviews. My set up goes Driver (Callaway Rogue St Max set at 8 degrees, Taylormade Mini Driver set at 13 degrees and then 3 wood (Cobra Aerojet set at 16.5 degrees. I don’t hit far, driver 255, mini driver off the tee 240 off the deck 230, 3 wood 215.

  4. I have a sim 2 titanium 3 wood which is 13.5 degree is literally like a rocket, rick I think some of you bad shots was down to you not the drivers,it's like me blaming my tools for a bad job

  5. Truly enjoyed this test. I struggle with consistency with a standard driver. I love my TM copper mini burner driver.
    Fairways Found!!!
Keep up the great work. Cheers!

  6. i get overall look being a club deciding factor, but the colour of the bottom of the sole is pretty funny. Literally the same materials and "technology" primarily being glue weights inside and the face, but because one is a different colour it looks older lol

  7. I have an 11.5 brnr and part of me got it for nostalgia because i had an old burner driver back in the day but part of me got it because i was looking for help at the top of the bag. The 11.5 degree one is really a rocketship. I didnt even consider the 13.5 because i was really looking for a driver replacement. For whatever reason with my swing i square the club up a lot more with this and it still goes 265 or so. I haven't found success hitting it off the deck, but i love it as a tee club. Its let me go mini, 4 wood, 19° 3h, 4i at the top and im sure the more i play with it the better ill score.

  8. Rick, if I were you I'd consider replacing your driver with either of these mini drivers. You have a tendency of being a little wild off the tee, like a couple of times at Open Qualifying. While a mini driver won't give you the raw distance, at least you'll find the fairway a lot more, and if you can carry it 270 yards then you won't be losing much distance.

  9. If they called these 2 woods no one would buy one, call it a mini driver and say it's limited edition charge 4x the price and people are eating it up.

  10. I actually like the more classic look at address for the TaylorMade. I might favor the Callaway if they’d remove the AI Smoke logo from the crown. For some reason, it’s off-putting for me.

  11. Can’t wait to test the Callaway. I will never buy another taylormade again after they always broke on me.

  12. taylormade….i hit mine about 305 total…..off the deck about 265, but i don't swing as hard. I replaced my 3-wood and driver with it. Now i have room for 1 more club…….. what shall it be……..

  13. Been playing the Callaway for a few days, it’s been so fun to have the in bag! Shooting well with it also, the 13.5 fits perfectly between my 9 degree AI smoke Triple and my 16.5 degree AI smoke 3 wood HL!

  14. Any chance you can review the Jailbird Cruiser putter Rick, I'm looking at one and want to see what a pro thinks.

  15. Love my Burner 11,5 (plays 12) replaced my Radspeed. I lost like 20 yards but I’m always in play. Also easy to hit off the deck on both fairway and in the ruff! Just love it!

  16. I feel like Rick always hits TaylorMade clubs better than any other brand, yet constantly choose other brands for his bag. Is he just daring to be different? Doesn’t make much sense to me.

  17. Why would you want a driver 'in cold weather' club? Even the head size is bigger than the burner. Burner is the true mini-driver.

  18. You gotta figure the shaft in as well. The callaway has a lower spinning, stiffer profile, shaft. The Taylor made is a higher launching, mid spin, shaft. Which completely showed in the off the tee vs off the floor testing.

  19. $500 for a mini driver? These companies are pricing out the average joes that can’t justify spending $3,000 for a full set of clubs. A full size driver is $500-$600. There is no reason a mini driver should be similar price.

  20. I have them both ( each 11.5 ) and the Taylor made wins it for me, way easier off the deck and great off the tee but if you are buying one of these to replace a driver because you struggle off the tee then the Callaway might be the better choice for you with the larger head and I too find it to play the left side more.

  21. Well, it’s no surprise that you hit better the club that you like the most, isn’t it. If you have such a huge bias before even doing the comparative trial, it’s gonna definitely affect it. I think it’s very bold and refreshing for tailor-made to do a throwback retro look.

  22. I hit the TM- liked it amd was on the fence for a while but really just played far too similar to my 3 wood to make sense buying it.

Bought the new Callaway and hit it today for the first time and absolutely love it, around 30 yards behind my standard driver. Far more accurate and feels much nicer than the TM mini, quite a bit louder though. Surprisingly just as easy to hit off the deck as my 3 wood so it's staying in the bag and 3 wood just gone on marketplace.

  23. Please try some performance shafts. Throw the CQ or VR in both then go head to head or old faithful “orange one”. I don’t know which would suit your swing best but I’d guess CQ or DI
