uh but anyway Martin you know on this show a lot Rob and I have talked about how the NBA is being taken over by International Players the last six MVPs have been International four of the five players on the first team all NBA were International and it it likely I think almost certainly would been all five had Joel MB not gotten hurt uh he would have replaced Jason Tatum and the best player in the NBA Finals was an international player I’m talking about Luca donic of course and then today and I knew this uh but now as the NBA draft is coming closer Martin it’ll be here on Wednesday and and this year I think you may know you know they’re going to two days so I I I guess they’re trying to copy football um and and I have something to say about that but the first round is on Wednesday the second round is on Thursday well and and and we gonna get into that in further detail um but having trouble sleeping turning on that second round right um I was looking at so hoopshype.com uh which is a great basketball website NBA in particular um they did a and they’ve been doing this but they kind of put together they compiled all the mock drafts or most of them the significant ones out there uh the there were 11 of them ESPN the athletic Bleacher Report the ringer Yahoo CBS Sports Illustrated SB Nation and a few more USA Today Etc and in looking at these 11 draft uh mock drafts they put together their own mock draft based on all of those okay and the first two players and I I’m I may destroy their names but zakari R Rick R rakar God bless you it’s not rakar because i’ I’ve watched highlights of him and it’s Rish re yeah something like that Rish yeah but you hear when the highlights a lot of them are international announcers so they’re saying it with an accent and all that so zakari um and then Alex SAR is second so the first two are international players three of the top five are international players and five of the top 10 are international players and so Martin I I want to ask you one what is what are your thoughts on kind of what we’re seeing as maybe an international takeover of the league but secondly this could hurt like a ironically as the NBA is going and let’s stay stay here for a second okay as the NBA is going to a two-day draft and I agree with you the second round is a snoozefest why because most people don’t know who’s D what the who the players are drafted in the second round but I got news for you most Americans aren’t going to know who even the top players are now there are some college players in there that they’ll know but even the top players because they’re from International you know Nations now I’m wondering Martin is this going to turn the entire draft even the first 10 picks the lottery which usually is the Highlight is it going to turn that into a snooze Fest it’s going to be Alex SAR and everybody okay who’s this right and so what are your thoughts on that uh I well first of all my my first initial thought is I wish the draft would it’s it’s a business meeting that could have been an email quite honestly I don’t see that like the value of watching the NBA draft or the NFL draft honestly for that matter on television at this point to me well they’re huge I mean I mean I get if I and if I was you know if I was you know a a Pistons fan for example a team that is been you know locked in mediocrity if if not worse for the last few years hell yeah I’d be locked into the draft because they’re down to five that which is sad they had the worst record in the league still I mean you know even still you know who knows cuz maybe maybe I’m drafting an next Jason Tatum or Jaylen Brown at five right the next guy who could be that be that spot because neither one of those guys were number one overall buellis is who they’re supposed to be picking according to Hoops hype well yeah although I will say this I watch the highlights of these guys and I gotta be honest these in they balling well they are balling and it you know the internight they’re playing in these Pro leagues overseas and and and some of them played in the G League too yeah um but they’re playing and and busel is is one that played in the G league but they’re playing against competition that to be honest is better than division one college basketball now and these dudes are balling now I’m I’m seeing the highlights I I’ll admit that but the moves the handle the jump shot the three-point shooting I gotta be honest they look pretty good and I know this is a weak draft but I’m just saying if you’re looking at if you’re only looking at the highlights and sure that’s all we had of Luca and that’s what people were saying is oh yeah you know you see the highlights of course he look good yeah well it translated okay but that’s one of that’s one situation and I’m sure like is it you said be translated all right but you can if you can name now jannis and yish were slow developers the point is if you can name them off in a list they’re outliers right cuz like they’re not outliers yes they are no they’re not the international dudes are coming over bin is that not true shenon I mean how many more do we have to see what the V they played you know division one basketball Division basketball but they are they are international players I’m just saying yeah but who played in the also weak division one college basketball that you keep poo pooing it is weak it’s not weak division one basketball the best players college age players are in the NBA but the fact of the matter is if there was a Zion Williamson in this draft or AP Paulo banero in this draft or hell even a Chad holgren or uh Scotty Barnes Anthony Edwards these guys will be the number one overall pick like these guys would still be the number one overall pick they just don’t have one this is going to be a draft that’s more likely going to have a lot of rotational guys a lot of role players who come in and fill spots on certain teams now if you’re in a spot like that where you’re betting on trying to find the next uh what was the kid from Indiana Ben Shepard uh the guy who started the rookie Reed sheeper Reed she no no no no the kid from Indiana who was starting in the postseason after Halle Burton got hurt if you’re looking for those guys his last name was talking about TJ McConnell no I’m talk know Rob G help me out what’s his name yeah yeah anyway the the rookie who was starting in the Conference Finals right like if you’re looking for the next the Ben Shepard see Chris brous learn your basketball anyway no if if you’re looking for guys like that then sure I will take what seems to be the quote unquote safer risk which is getting a guy who has draft who’s been playing in professional leagues for so long cuz he’s used to the just being a pro right just the the aspect of what being a pro is day in day out right it’s a little different than he done have to like Alex star didn’t go to math class right he did he wasn’t on the quad he wasn’t going to House Parties it’s his freshman year college go to the drop my point are you actually saying that the international players are only role players no my point is that if all the American players in this draft didn’t seem to project as only role players if there was a clear-cut number one overall pick he would be the number one overall pick from America that’s the like I don’t believe in that I don’t believe that there’s this big International takeover especially when you look at the history now if you want to talk about the leagues being dominated by them at this moment sure but the draft history doesn’t show that last five drafts no but what I’m talking about is the draft this the last five drafts are different but this is just another example of an international takeover the first example is actually the NBA that that like are you denying that the now I if you want to say who are the top 50 players in basketball sure the majority of them overwhelmingly are Americans but if you g to say who’s the best five the majority of them are international and now we’re getting beat in it’s not now it’s been happening getting beat in international competition by Nations it’s not like we’re getting beat by an international team that has Luke and Yannis and joic and all these guys we’re getting beat by individual Nations that don’t have guys like that so you think you think the United States is in trouble for the gold medal I think we no I think we’re the favorites and we should be I just don’t think it’s a lock exactly and I think and I also L of a lock than it I also think this is the last time we’ll be able to Big Boy the world and say oh oh okay y’all y’all got us in fee but we about to send the big guns over I just this will be the last time we can do that I just don’t buy it I don’t buy it what how you not buy it what I don’t think that there’s some I don’t think that there’s a big International Takeover in the draft like if you want to talk about I’m not just talking about the draft because the draft is only a precursor to the NBA what about the NBA this is just one draft I agree but I’m saying this draft in particular there is an international takeover at least at the top I think there are a handful full of guys in the internation from who come in from different countries who yes rise to the top but until we see a level of like six like consistently six seventh man coming off the bench being International Players I’m not see so you saying wait I don’t get that so you’re saying you’re saying the top six players on the team be International no I’m saying like if you you’re more impressed by a six man who’s International than a superstar who’s International I’m pushing back on the idea that there has been this takeover I’m pushing back on the idea like until you see outside of these outliers until you see a consistent flowing STS porzingis was essentially a six man in the playoffs cuz he was hurt what do you cuz he couldn’t cuz he got hurt so you would have been more impressed had he been a six-man than the starting starter averaging 20 points on the Celtics Chris I don’t what you’re saying the point of the matter until I see the 12th man slovia there won’t be an international take what are you talking about chring is the same guy who came over here and was and slated to be the Unicorn supposed to take over the league who’s now been on four separate teams and played a total of what five playoff games on this title run six playoff games on this title run I’m sorry it never happened where was the Unicorn where was he was supposed to change the franchise he is he gets hurt too much but but I’m what do you want me to say I don’t know what that like no I mean that that’s not about his ability his ability is he’s he’s a really good player when he’s healthy he’s 20 and nine when he’s healthy sure everywhere he’s been sure and he’s not a number one guy and he’s not like he’s a border but you’re use you’re why are you using him as the example and not Luca or joic or embiid or Giannis or even shenon cuz Shen what is looky I know I watch the TV show all the time pick up Shen you got the only shenon fan in America on the national stage on your TV show say now I think J the play in like they didn’t make the play in more I couple coming your way Fox Sports Radio
