Des Lynam presents 80 minutes of mostly motorsport clips from Grandstand on Saturday, 31st October, 1987. The longest bit of action comes from the James Hardie 1000 touring cars race from Bathurst in Australia, while there are also a couple of heats from the Formula Ford at Brands Hatch, and we even start with a little bit of F1 news following Nigel Mansell’s crash in qualifying in Japan. The other main sporting action sees Jahangir Khan take on Stuart Davenport in the World Team Squash Championship. Also includes some Cricket World Cup news and a few latest football scores.
That James Hardie 1000 is really quite mad, almost to Wacky Races or Herbie levels in terms of the things that go wrong, the weather turning viciously, no-one knowing the pace car rules, and that’s not to mention the illegal fuel scandal. You couldn’t script all that, but even then the result on the day was overturned months later on a technicality, apparently (it says on Wikipedia). All in all, though, my favourite part has to be the wildly ill-fitting cheesy 80s pop music that for some reason accompanies every action replay. They should bring that back.
Many thanks to Ben for providing this recording.

all credit to the designers of the car that the car remain intact there’s Frank Williams the team manager and the Marshall’s going to check that Manel was all right but he took quite a bit of battering PK looking on Alan Prost as well and it looked as though if you look at the uh near side front wheel on the curb seems to lose contact with the ground there a little bit he lost it there rhythm is absolutely important on this part of the course it’s a difficult area and the tires here saved him they’d only been put there 2 days before apparently so the car was nly smashed up by the look of it but the body of it remained intact and so did Nigel but it was worrying moments and off he went to hospital afterwards he had to be taken some 50 miles away to the University Hospital in a place called Nagoya uh he was rather badly bruised and hurt he went underwent exhaustive tests and happily he wasn’t seriously injured but badly enough hurt to be ruled out of tomorrow’s Grand Prix and it means of course that Nelson PK will be Champion whatever happens in the last two races PK will be Champion bad luck once again for Nigel Mansel that’s the position PK can’t be overtaken now uh no matter what happens in the race tomorrow and then the final race in Mexico that’s the grid for tomorrow’s race Gard Berger in the Ferrari was quickest and you can see the race uh tomorrow if you’re up bright and early well you don’t have to be up watch it in bed can’t you 7:15 in the morning and then highlights at 5 10 in the evening right some great action coming your way now we’re about to witness one of the great Motorsport occasions Aussie style it’s the Bathurst race from Down Under it’s a stage of the world Touring Car Championship 7 hours of racing ing 161 laps and drivers that make Crocodile Dundee look like a chared accountant for a quarter of a century Seven Sports has been making the annual trek to mount Panorama baist to cover Australia’s most prestigious touring car classic the spectacular if intimidating public road course hosted the first 500 back in 1963 Spectators and television viewers well remember the era of the Galloping Je T cortinas the super Coopers the Grant and go Ho’s and those marvelous monaros times have changed and so too is MTH Panorama $5 million have been spent upgrading the circuit and Facilities the track now measures 6.2 13 km and has three new corners added to incorporate the new calex chase the world championship trial stops at baas today Ford Holden Nissan and BMW are the awesome forsome of the outright class at stake the most valued prize of international touring car racing Australia’s very own James Hardy 1000 it was a Hardy’s Heroes with a difference no broy or last year’s poll winning this and just wall to- wall sieras the roll call told the real story seven Cosworth cuties a glimmer of a Bimmer and two robust Aussie V8 10 seconds away from the start of the James Hardy 1087 World touring cup Championship racing in the 87 classic and getting away smartly on the inside was Andy Rous here’s GCE making a run and Perkins down the inside and Grace looking for it into the first Corner missed the job KN bits rather terrible start from him in car 7 are is behind uh Peter McLoud in the mobile car number 10 as the field streaks up Mountain straight A Dreadful start from needs Vitz beautiful shots as they head up Mountain straight Bound for the right-hander at Bridgestone Corner Andy Ral the leader as they press the top and head towards Bridgestone the right hander very quick fast sweeping right hander Miki to Second there’s Perkinson Brock Johnny choto car number 42 the BMW M3 Steve sober got off to a much better start than his zurger teammate nsit sober in third place so one of the Texico cars up there with the Front Runners but he’s got Alan GCE right on his hammer followed by Larry Perkins Peter Brock and then nille Kon commodor on the face as they head to the top of out Panorama problems there for one of the shell sieras had to back off could have been Neville Kon they head down now towards the castol sand trap Andy Rous leads in the A&Z banking Sierra car number nine as they sweep beneath here’s them closing up Andrew Medi up into second spot Steve serer is third Alan GCE fourth Larry Perkins is the next one through dropping down now through the SES towards the Dipper GCE Perkins and Brock making one heck of a charge up the mountain but the sieras have been substantially quicker all week coming down Conrad straight towards the new calex Chase coming down to Toledo turn for the first time and the Rous of Great Britain in the A&Z banking Sierra will lead them Andrew mcde a Brien start from the young Port mcari driver and we’ll see whether soapa can pull out of the draft now and pass Medi as they come up to the top of the roller coaster and down for the first time towards calex Chase here’s so making his move on the inside the field goes through there’s an idea of the new look calex Chase area they swing them back towards the bridgstone bridge here’s our track cam seven sport exclusive as the cars go over the top of our camera and they come down for the completion of the first lap here’s SOA making a move going to put a number on thei that moves him up to Second rce sits back in fourth and the Bob Jane teams com as they complete the first lap of the 87 classic there is Dick Johnson in trouble in car number 17 doesn’t appear to be any damage it looks like he’s just rolled off the circuit with uh some mechanical problem they sweep through down beneath the Bridgestone Bridge again to the left hander coming up and here comes the move from Steve so as he puts one on Andy Rous and will take the lead Rouse tucks in behind him so with three completed Steve sober of Great Britain in the Texico Ford Sierra takes over the lead and the James Hardy 1000 Rous in second and third place held by Andrew Medi let’s have a look on our replay of an incident that occurred up here Larry Perkins H and I think that’s the number 18 for Sierra which was uh driven by Neville cron off the start he he’s made up that Gap he lost over the top of the mountain and now sits on the bumper of the Texico for sier and here’s the grass Ral making his move down the outside can he do it Andy Medi sits back in third spot GCE just behind him they’ve dropped back to 22445 which is going to allow and SOA being passed by Ras now as they head up towards the top of mountain straight and I don’t think SOA is in very good shape at the moment for some strange reason trying to stay with Ralph but unable to do so Ralph really made a lightning move there as they came out of hell corner so Rous has got the lead again and sober all that hard work to do once more there’s Colin bonds stranded calex Alpha 75 on the way up the straight Steve SOA takes back the lead in the jams Hardy 1000 but not for long because Andy Rouse comes up to run side by side with him thei sits just back behind them they’re having a a swapy game at the front 10 laps now completed in the great race for 87 look at them stream across the top NOS to tail four outstanding drivers Richard sat Fury and choto of course no introduction former World motorcycle Champion both 500 and 750 cc categories and I think 350s as well come down to the end of Conrad straight this fascinating dice between Glen and Jim Richards continues the battle for seventh eth 9th and 10th [Music] places sweep out on the approach to Mountain straight again we’ll see whether or not Satan if he can make a run at [Music] [Applause] Richards over the crest there here he comes down the inside Moment of Truth for Jimmy Richards look at Fury Fury going to try and see if he can sneak down there as well here comes the Farmer they work their way up M craft Hill Jimmy Richards will have the line for the next turn but George takes it in Deep Well Richards giveway George is very wide as they come out of the turn power on turbo boost door handle to door handle and the misss get through on the inside of the JPS BMW Sensational startu through West and then so badei one two Rouse in third then need spins the first of the uhur and Texico cars that’s the man we’re watching Handy Andy getting right here on the uh on the bumper of SOA 7 Seconds 7.2 seconds Medi goes through on Steve SOA SOA comes back at him on the outside as they work their way up Mountain straight and the Aussie from Port mcari is now in front one guy who we caught early on our replay this is the Lusty Commodore getting out of shape and her runch up she goes down it comes it has not been the week for the lasties Johnny choto in the cup number 42 CVM M3 just passing Jimmy Richards in 44 puts Richards back to 10th spot Chicot now to nth and his farmer George and Glenn seen dicing just ahead of them George now goes through that’s been a fantastic scrap for 7th eight ninth and 10th just as up front scrap between Andrew Medi and Steve SOA continues so SOA oping for the inside here will the traffic work out in his favor it doesn’t D held up quite substantially by car 43 and now SOA has the opportunity on the inside once again that time through it was a 223 but SOA comes back under breaks very very strong he can thank V for that but if you’ll be cursing so their times have remained pretty consistent for about the last 60 Minutes in one of the works BMWs the all go crew of course anet nerson partnering Mercedes sturich the former Miss Austria in this car car 47 they had a lot of trouble with it uh in qualifying of course when Mercedes Sturm put the car into the wall at the top of Mount Panorama and did a lot of damage but again those remarkable young men from the T College assisted along with the BMW crew in a rebuild that had them back up and running by lunchtime Friday just in time for the two girl two girls rather to put in a qualifying time on Friday afternoon late and look at this as Medi closes up through the bottom of Conrad at Murray’s corner across the start Finish Line again to start lap 32 side by side as they head up towards the left-hander at Hell corner and the he through [Music] again 2 minutes 23.5 for the leaders on that lap still circulating in the same sort of pace and this is the battle for third and fourth beneath the Bridgestone bridge and Rouse is dropping off quite considerably from the leading Duo yeah this is the first time I think he’s used these tires actually in a race and I think he’s probably a little bit worried about their duration this is something that’s probably going through his mind oh no he’s got a problem he’s got big problems big problems for Andy Rouse and if it’s going to happen that’s the worst place it can possibly happen because he’s got to go a complete lap if he was wanting to get to the pits and I can’t see that happening it’s a long way from pit Lane isn’t it well GCE gets a free ride through there to move up one notch in the James Hardy 1000 gry to third 1 hour and 15 minutes of racing and only 10 vehicles on the lead lap Peter Brock out of the 05 mobile entry David Parson’s in I have the stopwatch on them 120 L of fuel four new tires Peter Brock was positioned in sixth prior to this stop everything’s functioning well at the moment car settled off it’s Jack and fires up and out in a time of 25.0 seconds that’s a very good stop by the mobile team hello looks like one of the commodor smoking obiously must be Peter Brock yeah yep it’s the Parsons car Peter Brock Parsons car Parsons at the wheel of course only having just got in the vehicle and that looks pretty terminal to me when you get that sort of smoke you know that something inside isn’t doing what it ought to the second roock entry the 10 car is also in the pits at the moment Peter McLoud getting out of the car and handing over to John crook that has happened on lap number 35 when Peter Brock David Parsons were running ninth on the road there’s Bev Brock yes here we are 35 Andrew Medi in the pits the race leader and also Steve sober is in so the two top cars in the pit simultaneously there’s SOA dudon Pier dudon now in the car SOA handing over to him and more drama as Peter Brock comes in 05 05 car mean of Peter Brocks David Parsons and more dramas on the circuit for Alan [Music] GCE Alan GCE limping around the circuit We Believe very very low on juice yeah this is a sort of a limpin job as far as price is concerned he’s taken it right to the Limit as far as juice is concerned but I don’t like the other dials either things do not look too happy there Ry is having a good look himself at the moment here he comes and Richard Haye standing by there to call the action take it away dick with Percy standing right alongside the car dives into it Gracie out Percy in all four wheels and tires being changed again they’re going all over the place the B niss incidentally has just left the pit so once again that was gearbox problems with that car but Gracey strapping win into the car and it’s interesting to note that all of these cars have come in early they’re all about four laps early we were told Gracie would come in at 40 laps the car started up again straight out of the pit and here’s the BMW and out of the car and helping it along and I wonder whether that is something silly like [Music] Fuel and this is the hard’s heroes winner the man who set the fastest time in qualifying for this year’s race CL lwig as we see another incident here at the uh hell Corner round and round goes car 32 the Warren Cullen Gary sprag entry it’s really been in the uh the wars in the wars Today l Ludwig that brilant pit stop according to our charts now has gone through to take over the lead and Drew Medi in second spot Steve SOA in third so Sierra is still 1 2 three on out a replay for you this incident at the top of the hill one of the BMWs number2 Johnny chotto having an anxious moment as he tapped the slower car and only seconds ago luio cesaria in the number 57 calex Alpha has gone off in the s’s car was running 30 Ace in the field let’s have a look at the replay you can see exactly what happened oh launched it straight through the curb missed it completely greases it twice against the concrete wall and the car is now out and for the first time in the James Hardy classic a pace car comes onto the circuit and the pace car will now wait until the race leader forms up behind the rest of the drivers will then just cool it up so the advantage that our race leader had will disappear and it looks like oh his 47 is in trouble the girls MERS and sturs and that’s Anette Merson at the wheel at the moment with the white helmet on well right see the situation now is the pace car has moved away and the race is back on would uh would you would all like to have a chat with wi cuz we can probably arrange it for you through our Bob J race cam when Percy what’s the situation at the moment well I believe the situation is that we should stay behind the file for one laugh after the flashing light scar your guys are now displaying green flags I don’t really want to take the risk of overtaking that’s the problem yeah with green flags has got to mean go though win you sure yes sir okay I’m going go for it Winnie well that’s the best queue I’ve ever see when the boss says go for it you can get stuck into it well we find [Music] out so we follow win Percy in the Bob Jane Tarts Commodore great Flags men go in uh in any book in the world and uh he’s going for it Tony ler strapping in 49 seconds this is precious time you cannot afford to lose 10 seconds in a race like this now what is going on here gry well they’re trying to break the dry brake system it’s uh maybe they’re thinking that it’s they pressurized the system and it’s flooding the engine so they’re trying to uh to release the air build up the pressure in the thing yeah this is very very dangerous tipping fuel like this all over pit Lane yeah it certainly is um they were going so well because they had managed to catch and pass the Johnny choto CBM BMW M3 Tony Longhurst now rejoins the race thanks for your comments alen thanks for dropping by and I hope all goes well for you this afternoon meanwhile the second brck commodore the only surviving car and Brock is it yes Peter Brock getting into the car Brock says I’m ready and he’s off Peter Brock so the eight times James Hardy winner rejoins the field was in sixth place when he went into the pits and I don’t think he’d have lost that much ground there with cl Ludwig the man who stole pole position for this race yesterday with an absolute blistering 216 plus and of course elected not to run the first part of this race stepped in on the first Pit Stop he’s out in front and doing it very comfortably indeed meantime while that was happening on our replay let’s have a look at the Phil Ward Mercedes 190 he’s had an adventuresome couple of days up here Phil Lyndon reath mu his co-driver limping down towards the pit area one of the Nissans going straight Past coming down to calex Chase I should say it’s a long way yet to get to the pit Lane CL Ludwig behind the wheel the man who set fastest time his co-driver CL nitz started the race hand it over to Ludwig they were flying up front had a commanding lead in the race but have got some problem and are making their way very slowly back to the pits driver change coming up here too class needs Fitz going to get into the car on the opposite side to our of course left hand drive our Motorcraft pit report speaks for itself as you can see the frenzy action on behalf of the uh egenberger Team yep yeah it looks as if it was a fuel problem Fuel and a driver change so yeah it must have been fuel Juan Manuel fangio the second the nephew of the five-time world Formula 1 champ and they’ve been doing a very good job consistent smooth sure and uh at the moment I’d say they’re looking at uh at quite a reasonable finish in the in the top 10 Gary Bram has come to terms with this type of racing quite quickly fio now pulls the car out of the p in a time of 50 seconds meanwhile at the top of Mount Panorama wi Percy is just trying to limp around heading back to pit [Music] Lane whether or not winin just coasted down through through calex Chase yes that says it all Alan GCE stand just watching the car roll in to the pits wi Percy gave the race a great Shake wi any uh any indication of what the problem is yeah it’s Axel this really is bad news we’ll go for the Bob Jane car they’ve done so well well Peter Brock’s car running strongly of course the 05 car is out the number 10 car is running David is at the wheel but there is no doubt the man that masterminds the mobile dealer team effort is Peter Brock the winningest man at Mount Panarama the top name in touring car racing here’s the scrap coming for second spot is Glenn Sean moves to the inside and he’s getting a bit of working over from Johnny choto choto moves to the outside to get the line for the turn sat dials in right behind him over the curb coming out of there Bridgestone Bridges coming up you mentioned the GCE car a moment ago Mike it’s just been pushed away so the race has been run for Alan G and at this Johnny choto this is heady stuff the little Bimmer trying to hold out the Peter Jackson this in Skyline Glen fairly cool just acknowledges to Freddy Gibson T manager goes past Dives down here on the inside and says make your Arrangements John see you Steve sober of course driving the lead car number six at the moment hope you’ve also got your raincoat with you because it is about to bucket down at Mount Panorama our seven Chopper pilot Frank van re reports very very heavy showers just the other side of the mountain and heading in this direction it could put a different complexion on the top 10 in the great race for 1987 a fierce storm moving in over Mount Panorama spots of rain already appearing on the screen of Glenn seens Peter Jackson n and Skyline we take along the pit Lane Mark the team managers frantic the crws getting out the wet weather tires in preparation for a swarm of pit stops as the showers sweep been driven by a very strong West to Southwest wind persistent rain although that one big he’s got it sideways had to fight for that to get it back on the road very dramatic pitches coming to you dangerous moments [Music] here now if he’s having problem with the turbo in this end you can imagine the stri that Steve SOA is having with wheel spin in the Sierra every time they change gear oh goodness I used to drive a go- cat he’s as safe as the bank of England well I hope you’re right he’s a one of the good old boys from cting Glen hope you’re right for oh don’t prove me wrong [Music] Glen oh Glenn now you can see the Dilemma does he go into the pits and he’ll have to put wets on he’s going to wind up with a bigger problem he’s going to be out of tires then given another 10 laps cuz the track will be dry well if you look at the screen the rain has stopped now switch the wiper off so obviously there’s not so much rain on the top of the mountains so I would say that they’ll all stay on dry tires probably order is still the same soapa leading from the second texi Co Eric Glen seon is third George Fury is fourth choto is fifth Brock is Sixth and our boys are on the spot in the pits could we be in for a pat [Music] change doesn’t seem [Music] so change of tires change of driver clus Ludwick back in the car needit just helping him adjust the straps set ready to go load of fuel now if there is a problem it’s uh they obviously don’t think it’s serious enough to attend to at this time some drama here in the pits uh at the BMW team I think it involves Roberto ravalia apparently the car came in he got out of it and has collapsed a lot of concern a lot of attention there that you can see them carrying ravalia placing him on a stretcher I don’t know whether he’s been ill or not uh I haven’t heard anything to that effect it appears he seems to be dehydrated we we know for sure that he’s got a lot of bruising under his left rib Co from res of the aent on the mountain on Friday one car certainly making progress into the top 10 in quite a hurry it’s the one that created a lot of publicity a month or so leading into ba number 41 BMW Motorsport entry of course of Gary Bren and ju manell fangio they are now up to position eight and fangio is at the wheel and as you can see now raining again and Jim Richards car 44 there’s some kind of problem I think I’ve detected some smoke from the car yeah I saw that earli on in fact and I think it’s a question of uh limp round and take it into the pits and that’s exactly what he’s doing so Jim Richards I think may very well be in for a longish stop running seventh Richard comes in and this is really going to be a test here for the final hour of the world Touring Car Championship round 12 seconds gone and it is torrential down here at the moment the rain’s driving sideways freezing cold Steve SOA still in the car Pierre dudon standing by and the track is now very very wet and it’s gale force uh just on 30 seconds was the stop then for SOA and as you can see they’ve gone for a full grooved wet Tire his pandemonium down here I’m not saying it’s blowing a go ladies and gentlemen but it almost blew out three lap scorers off the balcony roof here in front of us and there they are assisting our race score people they’ forgotten lunch yes and if there was any refug on the ground down below they’ll find it at Orange sometime tomorrow the flag PES along the main straight bending almost double at some points with the strength of this wind it is just phenomenal the yellow flags are out at the moment I think I just saw the pace car going out it’s actually hailing here at present it’s freezing cold and we’re standing by for the other Texico Sierra and if you’ve ever seen some Sensational pit activity you’ve never seen anything until what you’re going to see in the next chako’s car has got some very heavy damage to the front and here’s the reason why the pace car’s out this the reason up on the top part of the mountain yes one of the Toyotas car number 91 that’s the forner entry I think it’s both of the Toyotas actually will yeah he’s got one wheel that’s virtually right off that’s the 24 car the bent balet car in the background the 91 Toyota and there’s another car here about to get Wow fangio Car yeah that’s going to stop it completely even the pace car won’t oh yes it will there’s room for it to get through so long as there’s room the pace car will stay out that’s why the pace cars here so a race can still continue or be it under control conditions still can’t identify the car on the right hand side of the circuit the third of the cars involved in the major part of this incident the fangio car you saw also was involved there on the way through but is still moving pushing the bhead car off the infield now choto winding his way slowly look at the front left wheel the the flags are out the pace car is out and not only that CL ludvig who’s just leaving the pits now is going to be held at the pit exit and he’s going to lose a lap on the lead car now we’ve got some replays coming up for you that will help to explain the sequence of events here let’s have a look that’s the first of the Toyotas looks like bang there’s the next one straight edit wheel off next one B maybe oil on the road up there he’s trying to steer the thing the wheel has run off the other Toyota and B at this stage gets the shimmies on and props at the top of the hill another Replay for you as they come up over the top of West End Ben boom that was the chot car that yeah that was Johnny Chicot the pace car is now on the racetrack the Wreckers are already on the spot to try and clean up the uh the mess of the two Toyotas here’s another replay this of course was the other BM trying to squeeze through wait for this akahito AA was trying to get through breaks on Oh What a Feeling Johnny obviously very wet the car just understeered off the road into the wall yeah it was uh completely impossible to drive I mean at very very slow low speed I turn a little bit of the wheel and the car just went straight here’s the Kent bent Graham balet car now it took a quite a swipe at the wall but they’re trying desperately to get it back on the racetrack well the Chicot car likewise and they have got it back on the racetrack that was a very commendable uh performance on the part of the BMW crew coming down to the end of uh Conrad straight pace car still there lights flashing even mind soon as the lights go out yeah the lights are out so it’ll be one more lap and the race will be underway once more second time we’ve had the pace car out [Music] [Applause] here there we go now that I believe well just incredible I thought they were supposed to spend a lap behind the pace car at the moment the pace car is play 15th in the race wasn’t Chicot penalized 3 minutes for doing this the last time out I’d say so yep what they are supposed to do is to follow the pace car around because his lights being out are a signal to the marshals to withdraw their yellow flags there’s no way though that um the Sierra or the BMW both they’re both very experienced there’s no way that have passed him I would think anyway unless he wave them past the yellow flags are still up yeah well SOA has a lap Plus on his nearest competitors at the moment and his nearest competitor his teammate class Ludwig in the number seven Texico car then Johnny choto Peter Brock and all the dramas aren’t on the track Neil Crompton certainly not Gary in fact there’s going to be one very big drama at the end of this race I just chanced on a story a moment ago about possible illegal fuel in both the Texico sieras now I’ve spoken with the Confederate a of Australian Motorsport official who official should I say who has taken a sample of the fuel from the vent bottle and also a sample of fuel from their overhead 120 L refill compartment the fuel that came out of the vent bottle blew the hydrometer off the clock I’ll let you read your own uh rules into that and the fuel that was taken out of the overhead refill container he said quote was almost right so work it out yourself at the moment the lap board says 139 laps cars six seven lead the race and uh Peter Brock is in third position in car number 10 but at the end of this racing afternoon there’s going to be a lot of discussion about those two lead cars now this is the drama down in the pits where samples are being taken from the egenberger Texico team’s fuel supply as we heard Neil Crompton before they’ve already run a Check and found what apparently is an irregularity we’re pursuing that we’ll find out more shortly car 14 the NETCOM Nissan and let’s take a look at the NETCOM computer uh readout that gives us uh the details the computerized readout of what happens in this car Neil Crompton is with us in the pit Studio Neil yes it’s quite interesting really wico what we’ve got is a complete readout of what’s going on inside the motor vehicle details including speed much reduced speed on Mount Panorama at the moment revolutions per minute and tire temperatures which will which will obviously be uh reducing quite considerably at the moment and then you notice in the middle uh bottom of frame an accelerometer which gives the uh gives the viewers at home an incredible indication of the g-forces that go through one of these race cars on a circuit such as Mount Panorama and then across to the right hand side we have turbo boost and then turbo wastegate temperature and of course uh the gear selection pattern up there on the top right Peter Brock the third place driver in the mobile Commodore comes into the pits and our crew are down there bringing you all the action Rocky sits in the car the crowd along pit straight already giving him a a huge uh cheer as he pulled in let’s go to Neil cromton well Brock’s just giving me the thumbs up it’s the usual confident happy and positive Peter Brock is in the car at the moment he’s gone out the time of about 25 seconds and he is gassing in the Commodore he’s put slick tires on he’s in third position the drama continues with the Texico for as victory number nine could be on the way thank you Neil Crompton come to think of it now you were the man that had to bail for the ride in this Carro Bist as I recall it uh it has crossed my mind that’s right our our Ace pit commentator who joined Peter Brock’s team and finished so well at Sandown was ear marked for a ride in this car at baos but because of the FIA regulations that has to be postponed until next weekend at CER five laps remain James Hardy 1987 look at Brock oh would he regret putting slicks on yeah I think he’s made a slightly judgment there because the track is still very greasy very slippery offline does he can get himself into great problems if he doesn’t to watch it he’s got to get heat into the tires first of all look at it skating out of here sort of thing you’d hope to see on the clay somewhere Phil Christensen joins us Phil I’ve seen Brock come from behind in the past and win here against ODS do you think it could be on the uh on the cards again depending on what happens up front it’s a great tribute to the champion uh of this man Peter Brock has been put down by quite a few people in many quarters all season and just listen to the race fans showing their uh their vote to brocky as he goes over the hill we got the little BMW trying to give him a terrible time down through the s’s now to the Dipper that’s all fine Brock just trying very very carefully to stay on the only dry line look how narrow it is Young Gary braing behind him Brock will float it through here see if he gets it bit of opposite lock as he comes out the dry lines out there fortunately now he should be able to run away from Bram down the the straight beneath the giio [Music] bridge and Brock really giving the mobile commodore wat four as he heads down to calex chase a remarkable performance there’s Rudy egenberger on the right with the headset on talking to his driver everyone ready to congratulate Rudy Rudy doesn’t smile all that much okay this great scrap continues here’s the BMW the fangio Bron and here’s brocky yeah that was quite funny because the BMW got past him and brocky iMed L decided he got the power and moved out right in front of the Sierra and the BMW going to nip and Tuck here on the inside but he has to give way to that and see what happens going up the hill Rocky sideways comes out of [Music] Motorcraft don’t think Steve sver was too impressed by all that [Music] there’s no doubt that broy has been one or two laps premature and he switched back to slick but there is a dry line that keeps increasing it’s widening all the time here’s the last lap board now for young Britain Steve SOA as he takes out on the last lap around Mount Panorama for the James Hardy 1 1987 still a two laap advantage over teammate Claus Ludwig there has been some controversy regarding the uh the cars as reported by Neil Crompton from the pits today there are the fans giving him a tremendous cheer as SOA sweeps across heads down to the rander down to the [Music] sers young Steve soap has only had he’s had two seconds and 2/3 in World touring car this year but this will be his first win in World Touring Car Championship SOA swings it back as a look over the shoulder heads down to Bridgestone bridge for the final time and the world Touring Car Championship for 1987 has arrived at baist this weekend the 1987 James Hardy 1000 will go to Steve soer of Great Britain in the Texico Ford Sierra and he takes the checked flag second place for will officially go to his teammate clus Ludwig who will be two laps down in the number seven egenberger Ford Texico SI and third place will go to Australia’s Peter Brock in the mobile Commodore all the Brock fans waiting for Peter perfect to come across the line and he does just that what a reception well I’d like to thank very much egenberger for producing a fantastic car excellent reliability the car run absolutely perfect from start to finish and for for for employing me and being able to win this race thank you there we are British wind down under got you nicely relaxed for the rest of the afternoon I would imagine particularly exciting stuff they do 130 M an hour and they actually pass each other so that’s all coming up for you now we’ll have the final of the 1600 cars next week right now we’re going to see the Heats and the commentator is Tiff nidel Julian West on pole position on a far from ideal track very greasy conditions for this Formula Ford Heat 10 laps there’s the young Welshman on the front row shared with Jonathan MC another youngster he’s from Northern Ireland so we have a Welshman Northern Ireland on the second row there is uh Chris Creswell a local from BR hatch area finish driver [Music] SATA they’re away from the grid weaving and ducking at the back up to pad Ben for the first of this 10 lap race and it’s Jonathan mcore from the outside slightly dryer line that’s got the best start leading leads into Paddock Corner the pack behind a little nudge in Midfield there but everybody safely through as M leads up to Druids so mul still holds head sway ahead of westw the pack all getting round very very greasy there’s beginning to be a little bit of a dry line you can actually see the dry line there where there’s a bit more grip but any overtaking maneuver on the slightly wetter track makes for tricky conditions so now threw into the lead has gone Julian Westwood mul now demoted to Second so Westwood in the lead meanwhile at the inside there m looked like he’s doing another place there to the young F [Music] mikato streaming through clearways everybody safely through wanted to progress to the next round of this B festival and it’s Julian westw young Welshman out the go now back into second place with the in Sato in third all sorts of squabbling through the back of there very greasy off the line but still up front it’s there being very sensible they know that getting through to the next round of this competition is the most important thing the grid positions and a spin there in the middle of Druids that was uh just where it was very greasy luckily wasn’t hit by anybody and he’s uh getting back onto the track to fight another day or they getting bottom Bend there very greasy spins Galore but still out front Westwood holds way from mul and Sato a Frenchman up into fourth now is ano trisol everybody taking intent as easy as possible through clearways out onto top straight where the leaders are already finishing their second lap with Westwood still out front Jonathan mcul now begin to mount a challenge he’s pulling away slightly from mikato the Finish driver who’s in third in the yellow van demon but it’s out front Julian Westwood leading from mul battle beginning to warm up for fourth place between travisio the Frenchman and Pedro Shar who was the 86 Portuguese Champion who’s now racing over this country so Westwood now under pressure from mul mul in the distinctive Irish car the mondal chassis chasing Westwoods van demon which is by far the most common car now in Formula Ford Racing but my known means winning every race so Julian Westwood now holding sway of Jo Jonathan [Music] mcul there mul definitely quicker through Paddock Hill Corner that’s the place he’s closest and uh have to watch up at Druids also very hectic dice building up for fourth place behind these two so Westwood there holding sway but the dice there for fourth between on the inside travisio the Frenchman who we haven’t seen much racing over in England and Pedro shave who was the Portuguese Champion as I’ve said in ‘ 86 but has spent a season over here racing in the British Championship which is the way so many of the foreign drivers go so still very little change there there we see shave but behind him he’s getting a bit of a push on so shave having to look both ahead of him to overtake and in his mirrors for those behind [Music] him again Westwood there Jonathan MCG there it’s his closest position Jonathan knows he’s not under pressure into to overtake here he’s having a look at the inside now for Druids he’s half there whether he’ll get through he’s looking Westwood uh realizing it was a bit too late to close the door and there was very clean and sensible overtaking maneuver that we probably won’t see later in the competition but at that stage West was happy to let Mall through he had the line on him and now we have a new leader getting on to halfway through this [Applause] heat meanwhile spinning again another rotation there and the lead has gone there we just caught a glimpse of mull spinning Westwood missed him mos sato’s gone through into the lead but mul has uh survived all Wheels appear to be pointing in the right direction he shouldn’t qualify there the first 13 will go through to the quarterfinals of each of these Heats and uh mcul now will be cursing himself having thrown away that lead which he’d only just got so halfway through the Finn mik Sato is now leading from Junior Westwood the Welshman who will be hopefully determined not to see another mistake like that right in front of [Music] him still very very greasy conditions like this the problems in Formula 4 they all run a standard racing Tire which is a set tire for everybody but on these conditions there’s very little git there’s a lot of sliding of these cars and it’s much much harder to really have close competitive racing that we’ve seen so much which is the Hallmark really AFF for racing and these greasy conditions not far from ideal for these cars there s having bit of a twitch at the position where mul span last time and Westwood looking to another rotation spinner at Druids there so Sato now under pressure from Julian Westford Westford with nobody behind him he will be wanting to get past Sato as soon as possible to try and ease out a bit of a lead to get that win in the heat he’s trying to go the long way around the outside and he’s holding on a very very brave move that’s paid off and uh very nice Julian Westwood really is a a fast improving driver he’s still in his early 20s very young but he’s been one of the Front Runners he’s actually fifth in this year’s British champion so Julian Westwood one name for the future sh out to Third [Music] so yellow flags denoting another spinner but uh our leaders have got safely through so it’s Westwood from Sato and [Music] Sho the dice there hotting up again for for fourth place this time it’s travisio holding off young Richard Reynolds who was second in the junior Championship so he’s one of the junior boys moving up to the senior level at the moment parked in the foreground there on the top straight is Kenny Brack the Swedish driver which is a great shame he was uh again been racing over in Britain this year but he’s out of the formula 4D Festival so the leaders looking safe and uh easing through Westwood not pulling away that quickly from Sato Sato really doing very very well for this first visit of BR [Music] hedge so Westwood holding way up front everybody taking easy a very very good back bar we’ve seen him spin a couple of times in this race so far and uh he’s certainly making sure he doesn’t take off the back markers that’s very good driving really he obviously wants to try and qualify if only 133 cars finish then Pier m m will qualify so he’s been sensible keeping out of the way of any travel certainly not disturbing the leaders who now move on shave now safe in third there we see him a former Portuguese champion [Music] so shave thir but now Richard Reynolds has in fact moved up into that fourth place he’s got past there we see him just about to lap the backat marker he’s got past the Frenchman travisio and certainly Reynolds who was ninth on the grid has moved up very impressively and very steadily in this heat he’s now hoped to maybe get shave in the next two laps which will help that group position mcul now has recovered to about sixth so he also won’t be too far down the Grid in his quarterfinal but Westwood’s not pulling away at all from s he’s got to be careful here that Sato doesn’t slip up the [Music] inside but very very greasy you can see the cut as the dri is trying to get the traction down onto the track the back twitching away as the wheel spin but Westwood starting the last lap in the lead looks fairly safe and steady Chavez is closed in in third place and he’s probably safe from Richard reynolds’s charge and certainly shavey looks like he fence is another place before the end of this lap Westwood defending the inside line at Druids there Chavez closing in on the leading pair and Richard Reynolds a tantalizing distance back in fourth [Music] place there oh Westwood leaving a little bit of an inch Sato I don’t think is really the place to overtake but uh it’s pushed westw wide and could well reap dividends Westwood there was almost playing it too safe and the Sato slipped through to lead this heat which is going to give him the better position on the grid for the quarterfinal and it’s going to be the Finn mikato that is going to win this heat from Westwood Chavez Richard Reynolds travisio and Jonathan MC did recover to a good sixth place we have some more of that uh formula forward for you after we go racing but on pole position for his heat the most exper ered man in the field today David Coy in the Trad a swift he’s done Formula Ford formula 4D 2000 and Formula 3 but this year he has done some of the Formula Ford races got sixth place in the British Championship but he’s certainly the favored most experienced man to win the festival beside him Andrew Guy Johnson one of the young Pretenders he’s leading the BR championship at the moment based at this circuit alone and he’s certainly matching coin up to Paddock but coin has got the inside line and he looks like he’s going to be holding the lead on the outside Colin Le tries a very Brave and Bold move but uh everybody safely through Paddock and up to Druids Hill Bend where coin leads still conditions very very greasy indeed the dry line is beginning to appear more and more but still offline it’s very very greasy so coin already pulling away with Andrew Guy Johnson now having his mirrors full of KL Fram a young Belgium second the Belgium Championship there now lying third and his van deep and up to Fourth is a very good Mark Suter another brand hatch regular and again everybody easing through a bit of a twitch at the inside Midfield still scrambling for grip offline these formula fors and their skinny tires but coin very impressive pulling away in his heat as much as Eddie Irvine did in an earlier heat and their fra threw into second place from guy Johnson who rather left the door open there and uh he might regret that from certainly looking one of the most impressive of the foreigners arriving for the [Music] festival so everybody still getting safely through Druid sensibly wishing to proceed to the quarterfinal but coin is just streaking away at the front Kyle FR looks very good he’s also pulling away very slightly from Andrew Guy Johnson which is a surprise guy Johnson really the local specialist who is uh leading the championship but there you see a bit of a slide at 30s and all of a sudden he’s having to look in his mirrors at Mark Suter and uh the leaders are getting [Music] away impressively in the lead PR second guy Johnson now sfish third a bit of a hectic battle for fourth there between sulter and Colin Le in the [Music] mundal all safely through Paddock and going up the hill behind Colin leash is the French Championship Contender Jean Luke pal who was actually second in the French Championship so a fair old scrap here from fourth fifth sixth but uh Colin Le now is the proud owner of fourth place he’s made a move forward whereas Mark Su has been bumped back to sixth and in fact it’s Jean Luke Palace is the man who has popped into fourth fifth so there guy Johnson now under pressure from Colin Le fifth place Shan luk Palace six Suter there we have Suter going out onto top straight being pressured from behind coin well in the lead kle Fram equally faed in second but Colin Lee’s diving up the inside of guy Johnson guy Johnson is uh from being a hard Contender at the front he’s getting pushed back and back it could well be these greasy conditions do not suit his quest chassis uh certainly in the dry conditions he’s one of the quickest d drivers around this circuit but now he’s having trouble from uh Jean luk palis the French drivers second in the French Championship who’s now pushing very hard to take that fourth place off guy Johnson coin from Le then guy Johnson still holding that fourth place from Palace well looking up the inside a very late dive but uh the guy Johnson counted that one me coming up to sixth is MIL Johnson miles Johnson an impressive yorkman who won the northern Alton Park circuit Championship this year so he’s not used to Brand hat but he’s certainly surging forward [Music] now guy Johnson still holding that Gap but uh David coin well safe up [Music] front there’s the the battle conin Le never there we have the French through so Andrew Guy Johnson moves down another place to fifth now so conin Lee’s there in third fourth is now the Frenchman Jean Luke pal fifth Andrew Guy Johnson from second on the grid obviously not happy in these greasy conditions the leading two well ahead third Le fourth the Frenchman fifth Andrew Guy Johnson and in sixth place now miles Johnson the northern Champion who’s the next one queuing up to overtake a very unhappy Andrew Guy Johnson [Music] so the battle really in the back is Guy Johnson uh who’s next to get by it’s miles Johnson right in the slip strep as they go up to Paddock there guy Johnson looks down the inside and through he goes so Andrew Guy Johnson goes back another place to [Music] sixth in fact the dry lining that was appearing is beginning to get covered now there’s a little bit of drizzle coming down it’s a very drizzly Grizzly morning at bran hat and the track now unfortunately getting a bit wetter but Le’s ahead Jean Luke pal there and fourth looking to move towards Colin Le the Irishman but uh this lead out front for Formula Ford standard just shows how in these tricky conditions uh if your car is set more for the dry than the wet and like Andrew Guy Johnson’s I should imagine is you can quickly fall back there to sixth place [Music] Le there miles Johnson is also miles Johnson now looking to take the Frenchman and very neatly in the same manner as he dispatched to Andrew Guy Johnson the lap before that was slipped streaming up the straight to Paddock snapped inside and went through I think Miles Johnson fan his third place off le as well so Colin Le will have to look out run in the background for Andrew Guy Johnson has just lost another place and has been pushed down to seventh it must be now by Pedro Pereira [Music] coin well clear Farm equally safe in second but now the battle really is for third miles Johnson now will be thinking about those overtaking Maneuvers at Paddock on the previous two laps he’ll try to get through clearways here as neatly as possible moving now right into Colin’s gearbox he’s probably too far behind in fact and a little bit of a slip and a slide and instead of him moving forward he’s got a lot of trouble there from the Frenchman looking to get his nose up the inside and uh in fact the Pedro Pereira is also having a look to to squabble the whole lot up so a real Gaggle now for fourth place a good formula 4 [Music] dice so the Portuguese Pera now on the back of the punch and almost almost a nose cone nudge into the gearbox from the Frenchman to the yorkman there the miles Johnson’s charge forward seems to have slightly eased at the moment perhaps the drizzle that’s coming down is uh is causing him to have more problems but certainly the gag Pera there I think coming through in the background to uh demote the Frenchman in fact so Miles Johnson meanwhile Dives up the inside for third place on conin Le at clearways whereas Pere is just done the Frenchman the Frenchman out coming back on the inside of the Portuguese so perea there briefly held fifth spot before the Frenchman challenge back through but miles Johnson it is who has moved through to third fourth Colin Le fifth the French sixth perea the Portuguese and a very unhappy seventh for Andrew Guy Johnson now moving back from the pack but there’s some weaving and ducking diving up to Druids there’s a couple of laps left to go very slippery there the Portuguese oh and there’s nudes and that’s a great shame for Colin Le and for perea they’re the Portuguese they’re Tangled together hopefully they’ll both qualify for the quarter finals they should finish in the top 13 but there was a bit of a nudge there and that was a shame and in fact there we got a problem there that’s perea obviously the steering arm had been broken in that tap up at Druids and that really was a great shame because he was 13th on the grid he’d moved up very very well in this race to looked like possibly A fifth or even a fourth place finish and now he’s out on the last lap though David coin very Supreme and confident race we haven’t seen much of the tread air swift but uh there it is and obviously every expected coin to win this heat and go forward and really the clash between the very experienced David coin and uh the British champion Eddie Irvine is really the most eagerly anticipated Clash but uh coin stomping clear on this heat the Ragged battle for fourth fifth and sixth unfortunately dissolved as we saw but uh the rain now coming down harder and harder the dry line virtually disappeared as coin comes up to clear ways for the last time for an accomplished heat victory [Music] so David Coy adds yet another formula forward Victory to his long long list of past successes success for the Swift car in second place an equally impressive race really from KL Fram we haven’t seen much of him third in the Belgium series there he takes second having pulled well well clear of the the Madding Crowd which miles Johnson comes a good third fourth the Frenchman fifth Andrew Guy Johnson so back at Druids that spin which spoiled that wonderful dice we had uh everybody recovered except perea but we see here Colin leads le le leads the battle for fourth the Frenchman tries to dive inside Le gets a bump from the Portuguese the Frenchman hits the Irishman the Irishman spins and the poor perea loses there you can see the impact the front right wheel which probably caused that steering arm to break as we saw later so busy qualifying for the final which we’ll see in Grand stand next Saturday and we’ll also see the Formula Ford 2000 race then the first round for the grandstand trophy we gave our own trophies away occasionally you know can’t afford it but we do it now dice with Matt Johnson a very impressive first Formula 4 2000 race for Rob Murphy but fourth a big Gaggle it’s just Le hyet and Foster in that order so the result a very good result for Jonathan bankr an impressive victory for him second equally impressive read in terms of experience Rob Murphy then Matt Johnson fourth Le fifth will actually in the end be Cal Foster due to hanis set’s penalty and therefore sixth will be young Emily Newman there’s more of that from br’s hatch in next Saturday’s grandstand now we give you no rest by do we because at 7:15 tomorrow morning you’ll be able to see the Japanese Grand Prix there’s confirmation of it highlights if you can’t make it if you’re not resilient enough tough enough to watch it 7:15 in the morning you can watch it at 5 10 at night now here’s the grid for the race we’re about to see it I can confirm that Gad Berger was quickest in practice the Ferrari driver alen proost in second place and of course Nigel Mansel uh takes no part in the race he was injured as you know in practice not seriously uh but hurt enough not to be allowed to take part in the race which has ruined his chance of the World Championship uh once again sadly Champion elect really is Nelson p uh he will be confirmed in due course because nobody can now catch him with Mansel out of things but I’m sure you want to watch the race sometime tomorrow and then there’s one more Grand Prix uh after that as well now as far as Cricket is concerned India beat New Zealand in the early hours of this morning our time so this is the semi-final situation in the World Cup England will now play them and Pakistan of course play Australia both matches will be on television for you on BBC 1 and BBC 2 respectively as you see there uh and you’ll see the whole of the England India match if you would like to from 3:25 a.m. on that day that’s Thursday of next week now if you were expecting to see some squash at this uh moment in time as the Americans say well uh the reason that you haven’t been over the last few minutes is simply that Pakistan have retained the world team title by beating New Zealand this afternoon but for you squash Enthusiast we’re going to bring you a little bit more action right now although the match is over as such uh the greatest player in squash in recent years has been jeng KH he lost his individual World title last week but let’s show show you the kind of play that he can produce now in his match against Stuart Davenport of New Zealand second game well only one point on the board it’s to Pakistan and one game to love in the lead best of five games [Music] I think the point you were making earlier in about St ort having to make all out attack there are few examples of that there are a couple though having said that but he’s just been content with retrieving and uh waiting to see what jangir Khan does and having to rely on that occasional error as you saw there and he’s got to be I think a little bit more positive about it and uh to take on board the fact that he has got to try to control the Rhythm and uh pace of this game very difficult to do it’s easy to say the the pace of the game stews is uh very lowkey at the moment I don’t believe that that is to St D ports Advantage he’s uh very difficult to contain because of his height and his uh yes attacking Flair when he’s in full flight but clearly he’s uh to sustain that sort of onslaught against someone like Jen K will be very [Music] difficult yes that was uh nice dport caught his man in the back court and uh gives himself a point one Point each oh and immediately follows it with the error it was sloppy and uh he will know that yes L yes L one all [Applause] yes let one all ball came awkwardly out of the corner as you saw and so let given on that [Applause] occasion lovely Drop shots by St Davenport straight and cross court but J is so quick and responds with his own drop shot yes Le yes Le one movement to the front of the court for both players there and jangi makes those movements Look So Easy surely Stuart Davenport at 6’5 just find it a lot more difficult well I don’t think he would have got to that 21 beautiful backend drop shot and uh textbook stroke [Music] [Applause] full of Disguise that shot beautiful L and the error once again at the end and uh don’t call that an unforced error because he was uh well worn down by that let’s look at it he was having to stretch a bit down into that corner and uh he was not quite in position and that resulted in the error good pressure from J the the buildup of pressure there Stuart resulted in the serve directly St Davenport hitting him on the body and uh clearly jenier is looking to move upper gate and that has to be ominous for New Zealand well the point score now is 4-1 Pak and uh stroke to Pakistan moves to five as you heard there with that stroke and with one game to L Advantage New Zealand already in trouble oh [Applause] yes 61 there’s no Vitality about t two d [Music] come on it up I think Steward BS it a l now for the right tactical approach to this match [Applause] he can’t quite take the pace off the ball to uh give himself a chance to beat Jan gear Jeni’s got all the answers there no doubt about it Stuart give it his big best shot but uh every winner he attempted janga returned with interest 81 game ball well a chance now to take Pakistan two games to love in the lead in this first match of three oh I say total disguise and uh really it was a desperate looking stew Davenport and a lot of work has to be done now in that corner to uh give New Zealand any chance at all of coming back but uh I wonder whether uh even even uh the coaches of New Zealand consider that that is now a possibility let alone a probability they weren’t so the important third game important for New Zealand Because unless they win it then uh Pakistan have a one match to love advantage and uh that would be very nice indeed with still Jan shakan the world champion to [Music] come there was a sort of look of resignation about uh Stu Davenport as he sat on the chair during the interval and no real hurry from the coaches at all to get to him I think there was a resignation on their part too and really he needed lifting psychologically he’s down and of course fatigue Factor increases the more you feel that you’re tired the more you are tired and the Relentless pressure being put onto him by janga Khan who has brought a real purpose to uh this match on behalf of [Music] Pakistan well it’s scrambling by Stuart dport and he’s got himself moving forward but again a careless error he’s not playing well consistently and for long enough love to be able to trouble jangar yeah yeah I don’t think he’s being allowed to play well by jangar such as the pressure that’s being put on him the accuracy the pace the Rhythm everything about this game is uh is uh Jan’s doing he determined everything I think that uh we’re seeing jenier KH Mark 2 here Stuart a more improved model from the one that was undefeated for 5 and a half years the one that’s hot in pursuit of Jan shikan put the record straight yes it’s three love already and uh very very fast indeed and uh Davenport uh yes L yes L three love contacts his opponent but uh no damage done it’s that little drop shot to the front now the big man is finding it very very difficult to get down to the ball from 6’5 and jangan knows that he’s got him tired he moves into the back court then just drops the ball to the front and really he’s finding it uh very difficult to contain anything is Davenport at the moment squash is the cruelest of games at this stage when clearly St Dev Port he’s not moving with any great athleticism just flapping his racket at that backand volley five love Jenia KH will now constantly place the ball in open spaces and require Stu Davenport to Chase Chase and uh I think this game will disappear fairly rapidly in fact I think one would be more accurate to describe it as a demonstration really of from jar Khan he has taken on the task right from the beginning and uh never looked to be troubled really was just slowed down a little bit in the first game but since then well down and there’s another error remember the first game to 95 the second game that was the telling one 91 and now of course six love Pakistan within three points of taking a one G one match to love lead over New [Music] [Applause] Zealand well there’s a great exhibition of how to play the rally in squash rackets Jen Khan constantly hitting the ball to the corners St Davenport wasn’t perfect example for any aspiring squash player so just a remind you seven love oh that was good just for once it came off the front wall and into the Nick love seven and uh Davenport gets a chance to score some points with service the first serves of this game and uh that I think tells the story [Music] no hand out seven love a brief Excursion in the serving box ends [Music] it’s [Applause] [Music] well now within one point of taking this match untroubled confident and businesslike [Applause] [Music] marvelous defensive play but he’s been worn down as dport and there is the outcome that one expected and jir waits for his taller opponent to join him and what a marvelous demonstration of power squats that was by Jang car coming back to the form that we associate with him uh in his status as world number one so Pakistan go one match to love in the league and really it was an awesome display by J Pakistan n love the match to Pakistan three games to love 95 91 n love 91 n love as you heard what A and the result of the second match was tighter but janer Khan beat Ross Norman 3-2 which meant that Pakistan retained the world team squash title this afternoon but we just thought we’d show you a little more of janger there cuz he won so convincingly now spot of football news Manchester United a 2-1 up against Forest they were a go down but Brian Robson and Norman Whiteside have put them 2-1 up and there are 44669 people watching that one today uh norer W up against QPR Wayne bins Arsenal drawing nil nil at Newcastle still and Spurs nil Wimbledon three is the latest score hurry up venables uh Wimbledon won there last year and they’re winning 3-0 at whiteart Lane this afternoon all the football to come of course when the vi printer starts rolling in a few minutes time now the Hunan fight strange old fight wasn’t it he went into it in a strange mood his hands weren’t right he kept switching from Orthodox uh to southp then the headbutt then he got deducted that Strange point despite the fact it was an accidental headbutt uh strange rule indeed that by the WBC uh but judge for yourself about the fight once again now we’re going to show you the highlights of it Hanigan against horay vaka and we pick it up in round two second down round two well hunigan certainly lived a little Dangerously in the opening round he was so intent on getting his own punches in he was a bit open but he he took nothing really serious

stopping kids from saying first (you are welcome)
Wait a minute where are French and Saunders?
Channel 7 using Jewelled by Propaganda as their theme music, probably around the same time Top Gear Rally Report adopted it.
Tiff Needell commentating in a very laidback style sounds very wrong, like when the BBC used Martin Brundle as lead voice for a year.
