[Music] and hello good morning late tea time PS around the world it’s coffee time in cricket Badger Towers I had about two hours sleep I was on the cricket last night to the things I do for you in bringing you this golf podcast DT looks far more refreshed and raring to go how are you um well I was doing live blog on the Uso until about 1 and then I got up and did the park run so I’m AIT knackered as well yeah that’s competition to see who’s the most tired if you can beat us at late T time pod if you’ve had no sleep whatsoever but anyway um it’s it’s a tantalizingly poised US Open we’ve got uh a young Pretender who’s not pretending anymore in ludig oberg who is leading and the scoreboard at the moment um he’s going to win a major at some stage could it be this week that he could get his uh up and running it’s been a meteoric rise for obber Bryson to Shambo hanging on in there in fact I’ll give you the top end of the market should we because Ludi is now favorite 100 to 30 and Bryson to Shambo 92 so is Rory mcroy he kind of slipped away then kind of came back in and slipped away then yeah and Patrick canay still up there Ander chaet 91 and 11 to1 respectively Tony finow 14 tii he’s still in contention 18 to1 Thomas D is 18 to1 ter Hatton who’s on both of mine and DT’s and personal batting slips he’s 40 to1 got himself into contention then slipped away but he’s not that far back um it’s interestingly poised ahead of the third round ET yeah I mean you you go down the leaderboard and you think well how far can I go down because there’s some big names s of lurking but if you’re go with history you really do need to be in the top six I’ve gone back to n since 1996 there’s only been two winners that were worse than six at halfway okay that really really hard to make up ground in the US Open that particularly be the case this week because it was so tough so you can’t just fly from you know near the cut line no chance people like scottty Sheffer absolutely no chance today but it’s was gonna say to you my strategy of waiting until he’s a big price and then backing him 80 to one now Scotty I mean would could you take him each weight to maybe just have a flying third round fourth round because if anybody can he can but then we said that had a round two no in each way terms of getting shter he can still back players to finish in the top 10 or 20 so it’s not beyond the Realms that he he does make a bit of a move but it’s just so difficult to do that from from where he is so yeah you’re not want to get value are you because his stat s people are expecting him to yeah that’s that expectation is that the sort of odds are there to put you off a bit um so if you sticking to the idea that You’ got to be in the top six so down to oberg Des Shambo de canl maroy feno and pavon and then if you think is pavon really going to win this and then if you think is detry who’s never won on the PJ or even DP Welter is gonna win this so you’re probably looking at a oberg dambo Klay maroy and F now and of those there’s two major winners in that list isn’t there um who have been there and done it before in maroy maroy and Bryson so would you would you say that they’re the favorites because they they’ve experienced it but then then it’s got we come back to what we said yesterday about Rory hasn’t won for 10 years so we still got that to kind of combat hasn’t he yeah and it’s a weird one it’s I do these 10-year Trends previews and actually the last 10 US Open winners seven had never won a major before so it’d almost on that basis be given the nod to oberg and and Klay and F now over the other two yeah but it’s out how’ you call it I can’t really see what’s separating them ly ob’s going to win multi mes multi mes I think um it’s can it be this I mean he only about a year ago that he started is it it’s not it’s not that long ago he kind of burst onto people’s radar but um he’s a cool customer isn’t he he kind of walks around the course he’s always looking quite happy with like says thank you just the crowd and they just yeah not fair it’s it’s a great he’s got for this um but is you know I don’t know if it suits to be the he’s the halfway leader on his own it’s like all right mate you’re the leader we’re all looking at you you’ve got the Target on your back so I don’t know I wonder if it suits maroy to be one back rather than one ahead from from oig’s position though it’s it’s not like he’s got a 10 shot lead to throw away it’s tight isn’t it yeah yeah so yeah I mean it’s very tight isn’t it I mean I know I said the top six but you look at someone like Matt Sama who’s eight he’s only three off the lead I still fancy ter to come good I mean you off the lead you could it’s not like they’re um outside the top six and Miles back is it you know it’s all bunched up so yeah um it’s it’s a fascinating round three really is to see how it takes shape ahead of the final round um anyway um thank you very much indeed to we always give them a plug because they’re our sponsor um so make no apologies for that and we always play their advert as well so if you fancy saving money on your business bills when it comes to the water here is how you do it with our friends at switch water supplier.com all golfers want to stay away from the water that Splash as your round sinks beneath the surface is never a good sound but golf courses rely on water to keep those Fairways and greens Lush for that PO round shower or the clean glass at the 19th Hall golf courses indeed most businesses spend way too much money on their water bills switch water suppliers can cut your water costs and help your business save money register now at switchwatch charged switch waterers supplier.com switching Made Simple indeed switching Made Simple with switch waterer supplier.com so right let’s get into it DT ahead of the third round it’s moving day at the US Open how do we find a winning bet today so I’m going to go with an AA we’ve kind of been waiting for the the two balls oh sorry we should mention we should mention that you’re to miss the cut or to make the cut rather AA landed we had two versions of it we had one with Tiger Woods which was about 16 to1 we had one without tiger um which was 9-2 tiger suddenly didn’t quite make the weekend but the rest did the rest did just um Scotty Sheffer one of those right on the on the number along with Fleetwood as well he was at plus five um but yeah you can I think we yeah we picked the right ones I mean a few big names didn’t make it holand but I never fancied holand this week as I said at the start um there’s a few big guns that didn’t go through but luckily ours just about made it so yeah that was quite nice and the shame for he was right in there with a few hes to go just needed to make one birdie over the last four but couldn’t quite get it done um how how long will Tiger be happy just to make up the numbers because he’s not that kind of character is he the problem is he can’t put in the hours to make himself sharper because look he’s still got so much in him but to compete to just turn up every so often and try and compete at this level it’s just so diff difficult so that’s almost kind of his level Now isn’t it will he make the cut in a major but that’s not why tiger started playing golf isn’t it to make Cuts he he’s there to win so there was a rumor wasn’t there last night that he was saying this might be my last US Open um perfect time for him to switch to the live tour isn’t it only played three rounds yeah don’t tell him that I um so yeah I mean his exemption from winning the 2009 19 Masters runs out for the for the next US Open but they do do special exemptions it’s hard to think that they if tiger faned it I can’t believe they wouldn’t say all right you know you’re in so there’s a there’s a permanent red carpet down for people like tiger isn’t there yeah I think so but it’s whether he wants to walk up it doesn’t he when he knows he’s only just battling to to get into the weekend or or hobble up it as he as he sometimes does and right we’re looking for your little AA then how are we going to play it so it’s a kind of a theme really is i’ got bit of a theory that short game will count for even more over the weekend and because this course course is just going to dry out get firm and faster so those who aren’t high up in The Strokes gain around the Green stats because I think you’ve se you I mean you’ve been watching it I mean if if you watched the last couple of minutes yesterday on the on the very last hole um it was sewu Kim and Sun Jim both lovely t- shots to the par 3 nth which M Francesco molar had got a hole in one a few minutes earlier beautiful shots and they just sort of oh that’s three feet away and the ball just trickled and ran off 60 70 feet away I can see that happening more and more as the weekend goes on so in reality you’ve got yeah hitting the grain isn’t enough you’ve got to hold it on the grain so you’ve got to find a bit of the grain that will hold your ball so I just think balls will get repelled off and off and off so many times so therefore you need your short Game Wizards so my my Aur is based on those was showing prowess around the greens this is this is why I went against you and I actually quite fancy Bryson to Shambo because I think he Revels in plotting his way around a course and trying to be clever can be too clever at times but because it’s all about how you approach it and where you aim at in the green isn’t it and then if you if you do get unlucky or miss it um how you scramble basically and how you get up and down well he’ be pleased to know he’s one I’m going to support but I’ll I’ll start with um so we’re going to go back so I’m basically I’m looking at the um at The Strokes gain stats to see who’s a bit weak around the green or or with the putter so the first bet um bit of an unusual one but we go back to 1818 618 UK time where we’ve got Nicholas I thought you talk about the year then rather than the time so much history yeah we go back to 618 Nicholas etaria against Sam Bennett a bit of a a cult two ball isn’t it but um if you look at the stats I think there’s an opportunity here because etaria um he is 81st in around the green and 125th in putting so his short game is wonky I mean he’s done very I mean he he’s he’s at his irons beautifully absolutely superb but I think he might find as it goes on hitting beautiful irons he won’t get the reward you you’ll get times where it’ll a beautiful iron shot and it’ll just go off the green and that’s G lead to frustration as well isn’t it yeah because yeah because you feel like oh that’s not deserved is it so at the moment it looks like his short game will struggle to keep him going on the weekend whereas Sam Bennett is eighth in Strokes game putting 43rd in around the green so pretty strong numbers from him um so what looks like it well I don’t really know in this one but Ben Bennett as the underdog I think is worth a little go there at 23 to 20 with bet 365 that is um second one 1924 or 724 just to avoid confusion um we’ve got Cory Connors against Tim uh Widing Widing vidding of Sweden um he’s a the swed so it’s not all about oberg this week he’s got another swed uh doing well on the leaderboard but vidding he’s a double winner on the corn fery tour this year Connor’s we know all about and Connor is your kind of classic tto green player but I just wonder if his short game will hold up on the weekend so you look at their respective stats Connors is only 70th around the green whereas vidding is 16th so quite a disparity there um they’ve got similar putting St stats but I I just think that extra touch around the greens makes vidding Ving um a bit of a value play he’s quite serious Underdog eight to five but it does obviously boost any aers okay um then we’ve got Hideki matama against mat pavon the Frenchman who won at Tory Pines earlier this year been um he he’s having a great week and so fair play to him but I just think mat Arma will get the better of him uh in round three and and statistically this is why I’m going for this really Matt SI armor is in the top 15 for both Strokes gained around the green and strokes gain puttings his short game I read a little interview with him um this morning he just said how how well he’s putting so he’s got real confidence with the Putter and around the green um I mean he shot the round of the day yesterday 66 was the low round of the day pavon obviously done great um but I mean he’s his stats are pretty decent they’re just not he’s he’s 32nd around the green which is good um but his approach play is pretty average as well he Boger the last two holes yesterday as well so he just lost a bit of momentum um so it’s it’s a pro matsi Arma better early than an anti pavon one I just matsi arm is looking really sharp and has got a bit of momentum and we’ll he’ll be the favorite in that quite serious F five to eight yeah mat but he’s been there and done it in pav we don’t really know so it’s more of more of a safer play and then the interesting one is des Shambo uh oberg they’re both 21 to 20 at bet 365 so it’s like a pick who wins out of them but statistically if there’s one area where oberg might just get caught out on the weekend it’s his a little it’s his chipping around the green he’s 95th in Strokes gain around the green which is way way worse than anyone in the top 20 on the uh leaderboard so he that’s a surprise isn’t it of all the players at top 20 players he is worst in that category um he’s doing everything else really well he’s six in putting 12 in approach first off the te I just think that that little Achilles heel that he’s had so far this week I mean could just could just be the thing that lets him down because I think it’s an important thing to able to do well on the weekend where Des Shambo is 26th around the green so Des shambo’s um statistics across the board he’s strong in every Department whereas oberg has just got this little niggly weakness that that that could make the difference I mean he could he could turn that around but so far he’s had two it’s not like he he had one bad day of chipping around the green round one he was 93rd for thrs going around the Green Day two he was 98 so both days that’s not not being his his thing and I just think it needs to be sharper um so yeah it’s it’s a negative as well on his chances of winning I guess uh so the Shambo I just you don’t ohug you don’t really know what you’re gonna get you think you do because he’s you know he’s come second in the masses and he looks so cool but I think there’s more chance of him unraveling a little bit today than the Shambo so D shamba I mean did you see I don’t think he saw any of the coverage D Shambo sort had a stint in this they made this sort popup commentary box NBC like a little Studio a desk in the trees and he was just sat there um basically just commentating on all the shots saying like o got a put he’s going oh that looks a bit short oh my boy oh my gosh she’s hold so he’s really he was really engaging yesterday it’s like a I don’t know I can’t think why now he was so disliked but yeah I I was thinking that the other day I quite like him I I I think he’s um I mean I don’t know him never met him never been in the same postcode as him but I I think he is one of these guys that uses that bravado the fist pumping the kind of chest pounding um attitude that he’s got to cover up maybe I think he’s actually he’s not that um that that’s his kind of um release kind of thing and I actually think he’s quite a nice guy yeah he I mean he was definitely a bit arrogant he was a bit he’s a bit socially awkward at times and I think I think when he first came on tour he looked a bit arrogant maybe a bit entitled and a bit like look at me I’m a bit crazy um but there was definitely a nice side in there that going along with that and now it’s just I think he’s learned how to sort of accept things a bit more and show that nice guy sometimes where that outward facade of being a little bit arrogant and stuff is actually to cover up a little bit of shyness or a bit of insecurity and I think that might been him he’s got this nickname as scientist and he is he is probably sort of classic nerd and he’s in a very sort of alpha male environment and that’s that’s when he he’ come up against Brooks kep because kker isia classic alpha male and the Shambo was he’s just a bit more nerdy isn’t he than that so I think he wasn’t he wasn’t quite sure how to play but now I think he looks really comfortable in his own skin and if you listened to him yesterday doing that commentary stin he just looks so sort of relaxed and it was great so I just think he’s in such a good head space now that I it doesn’t seem frighten to take the Mickey out of himself a little bit as well I saw a couple of these socials where he was in the gym pounding iron but he was kind of raising up his he was doing this kind of exercise kind of like his fist pumping this is the fist pump ready for the major and kind of just taking the Mickey out of himself a little bit and I quite like that I mean there’s enough sort of bland characters knocking about so to get someone like him you really want to see more of him he’s the one live player that you think oh what a shame he’s you know we don’t see him every week because he’s been a breath of frer this week so yeah I guess I mean down the years you have had the US Open winners sort of come in little batches I think like Els won in 94 and 97 G 01 and 04 Michels not Mickelson he’s never won it um there’s been kind of little gaps where you win one I think the second one can come fairly quickly pay Stewart won twice Lee jnon twice so Des Shambo I think I I was struggling to come up with a a winner oh I’ve lost your sound your sounds disappeared DT you’re about you’re about to say Bryson to Shambo maybe could win it I I actually think he could nine to2 on Bryson um I think he’s he seems to be in a good place um head spacewise so Bryson the Shambo maybe to do it but the four pickes DT fiddles with his his equipment um so to speak um is Sam Bennett beat to Nicholas eter um he’s 23- 20 timing 8 to5 to beat Curry Connor hii matama 5 to8 to beat Nicholas paval and Bryson the Shambo 21 to2 to um up turn ludvig oberg um DT have I got your sound back oh I can’t hear you I don’t know why um I think you’ve muted Yourself by accident I can’t unmute you but I think You’ muted yourself anyway we’ll get through the end of this because we got that um could could you um tell me um in in Sign Language what price that uh that fourfold is anyway you work it out we’ve got s Bennett Tim Ving Hideki matama and Bryson Des Shambo on our slips then ahead of round three and we’ll say goodbye to DT because we can’t hear him we’ll say goodbye to you late time oh I second 17 17 to one for that fourfold then thank you very much DTS fingers are doing the uh doing the work for him so 17 to1 is our fourfold ahead of round three good luck everybody this has been a Sports
