of the roof like the phrase I don’t know I would I know Jason what are you asking me for all right good morning good morning good morning feels like a uh I keep mistaking this seems like a cash grab what’s a cash grab oh is that what uh that’s the raise the roof feels like a Monday kind of keep mistaking it for Monday because we had yesterday yes that was it was just you know it’s like glad we have the holiday everything’s great can we put it on a well I guess you gotta put it on the date couldn’t there be like you know how they have like obser why do we have the Fourth of July on the fourth of July that dude seriously like why but why you they they do tricks with them though like you’ll have you’ll have the day and then you have the day observed right I feel like it should be observed on a Friday or a Monday looks like a lot of the building is still observing a lot I have a feeling a lot of this building is gonna be observing today and tomorrow yeah why doesn’t that work for us just doesn’t we observed yesterday we did we we absolutely observed yesterday and also you know there was something really this is this is the small stuff that puts a a a a smile uh on my face in fact I’m reading the text line right now from everybody yesterday the amount of I’m sure you got this too Jason uh the amount of texts that I’m seeing for the first time here and then the amount of tweets I got yesterday everyone’s like where’s the show where’s the show and you know hey we’re you we’re off but not every and we said we were gonna be off but not everybody listens every minute but it just I I I I I know it seems silly but I see that I go oh you guys you guys you guys care that’s so nice they like us they like us and we appreciate you each and every day good morning welcome in it is H Thursday uh June 20 what is June 20th oh God I feel like it’s somebody’s birthday I’m forget right now just right when I said June 20th um and uh we’ll do our show today I will be uh down South tomorrow full strength still though just uh on remote and always cross fingers hope everything works but I’ve done shows from down there before it’s been fine uh and then we’re all back on uh on on on Monday and then you’re actually for you I got a couple weeks you got a couple weeks and then you’re uh you’re you’re getting laid ell no New Orleans first oh wait when are you going the other place uh after that wait like same time for same week no no no yeah I’ve got like two in a short amount of time oh that’s end of J okay I got you part of it year gone that’s right Chris is gone soon when are you gone uh second week of July wait a minute that’s not the week you’re gone is it no okay we made sure of this oh my God life flashed before my eyes that week is coming I’m not I’m not I mean I’m happy you’re gone we have a we have a rule around here on the show so and and it’s for a good reason Jason gets and for very good reason Jason gets first priority on vacations because because during the year year you’re working the Kings so you can’t you know like I can I can take off when you can’t and from like September to April I’m yeah you’re screwed yeah and so even and the the thing that I always feel bad for you for is you might take a few days or a week here and there during King season but you’re still working you’re just working your other yeah I did like at Christmas I think it’s like well I got days left but I’m still I didn’t go anywhere I didn’t wake up at yeah you just didn’t have to get up for one job but you work the other job which is than nothing but still so yeah when summer comes or when the offseason comes Jason gets first crack because he like we said he’s cooked for for the bulk of the year um and then usually we’re all gone for the dead week which is uh uh Major League Baseball Allstar break coming up what July 14th 15th somewhere in there uh but this year because I’m taking an extended break at the end of July uh I’m going to work that week and I think this is the first time I’ve worked that week in yeah cuz your your break’s like two and a half isn’t it yeah I’m I’m gone just this side of yeah I’m leaving I think I do no I don’t do the show on the 24th that’s right so from the2 I think 23rd maybe 2 I thought it was the 24th 24 is when you leave 24th is when I leave yeah but I’m still working the two days before correct the Monday and Tuesday and then that’s the irony is I’m back the Wednesday right yes we cross paths which work yeah hi hey like the coy why the and the other guy the sheep dog so then yeah I’m Gone the Wednesday the 24th and I come back uh well I’m back in town the eth uh but late and then for shows the ninth right for no I think the first show is actually the 12th because it was the ‘s on a Thursday got it and just that turn around is going to be although N I don’t want to say that because I’ll be we cook too but there is part of me that do well I mean I might just roll in here on the the the change back I’ve always found is easier because I would then be this show England time is 2: to 6:m yeah which is my dream like I would just love to be able to you plus you’ll have been there for a while to fully get acclimated as opposed to four days and then your back and you’re all out of whack this is going to be in the background as you’re talking about sports over there yeah what is this Austrian folk music okay can I just say how I’m gonna take you through where my brain went and make myself look like an idiot I think I’m probably in the same spot most people filter themselves to not look stupid but that’s just never been my forte I didn’t understand why you were playing Mexican do you got that too I thought it was like a Cantina right and I’m like what does Mexico have to do with any of this fun fact all the horns and Mexican music came from German immigrants is that true oh that makes sense then all of the horns everyone all all of the horn you think that they came up with accordion come on uh so yeah uh I mean my dream would be to that’s why every time I I I this would be by far my longest you like you said usually it’s just a few days which is garbage because it’s a full day there and a full day back right but they won’t let me work over there yeah I’ve been trying they won’t let me do the show for that’ll be good you’re with your family just no totally in that case it’s just I it would be so much better if I could just the amount of times I could do the show for I’ve I’ve always said it’ be so amazing because I they made me a whole setup over there at the stadium so that I’d be able to do the show with the stadium behind me and have like complete total like nobody else is there middle of the afternoon it’d be a cool look uh and we’ve tested it sounds great but you know there’s laws there’s labor laws and we follow them here sure of course I could just say I’m here right change the backdrop and it’s it’s a or just say it’s a green screen right I’m not in I’m not I’m not England right I’m sitting there with like one of them Pork Pies munching on that during the break um you went for it huh yeah I had to yeah I had to shave and and you know it was so depressing dude because first off to shave well so Jason and I have been growing our beards out it’s our playoff beards yes and then Boston won play you’re waiting for the Stanley Cup I’m still counting the Kings might win this we were growing those playoff beards we we look like Captain Caveman and Son but uh no I did yesterday and it was it was depressing because you know I I my wife got me this really cool present a few years ago it’s one of those things that you don’t think much of at the time then it actually is one of my most used things it’s this uh it’s like a black sheet with little suckers on on all four corners and you you you the little circular suckers and you plop them on the mirror your bathroom mirror and then I and then I tie it around my neck and I kind of take one hand and I I make it into like a tight turtleneck and now and and the the sheet is in front of me like this so that I can shave my beard and not have leens everywhere yeah so all the clippings are on the all the clippings are on the thing anybody who’s ever done that just does it over a sink or something like first off it is impossible to get rid of all the hairs I got them oh no there’s a ton stuff yeah how are there like four and then like a week later they like pop out of the drain or something not to mention I don’t think it’s good for your your your pipage uh this one you just shave it onto the the the thing and then uh you dump it in the old garbage but it’s black the the color of the sheet is black so the problem is is that I’m shaving yesterday salt God dang like what are we doing here gray Walt Walt Sunny Pon matter don’t do that to Earl Oh Oh Aaron o Aaron E R I am yeah uh you have you uh yeah yeah I I yeah father time um yeah so had to do that um but I will say if anybody wants um we can have it so I yes I saved them they’re I’m going to give them away at the uh put them on auction yeah um oh talk the coach about Varsity yeah oh he did I feel better now yeah he had a he had a game go to his house uh we met we need here we need to talk at a neutral location just to make sure you know and I said come alone yeah um you brought the bag of money I did I brought the suitcase uh we had a good talk he had a uh game SL scrimmage against sack High yesterday and uh it was in June they’re dude I don’t they’re breaking laws they have to be they have practice you don’t have a game you have a scrimmage yeah it was a scrimmage but they not a game yeah they have practice five days a week yeah and then they have a scrimmage like once a week they have conditioning you’re right sorry exactly this is bringing back when I used to have to play during uh summer break um so we had a good talk and he goes hey he’s a good guy he he uh helps my wife with her when she coaches the girls and uh set the screen that’s right he said uh I totally get where you’re coming from I I get it I but I’m you know looking at him as a four-year guy I want him to get the experience uh and but here’s what he said that made me feel better he said there’s like I think it’s like 35 quarters it’s some weird arbitrary number but he can play so many quarters on varsity and still and and he says if he’s overmatched or I don’t think I’ll move I can move back down to JV so it’s almost like uh he’s on a two-way contract if you will yeah but he played the bulk of the minutes yesterday uh although it was 195 after one other team but they they had heart they came back they did well so we’re good there uh I thought you’re gonna say that you like that he’s more particular about his hours for his coaching that who is the coach yeah yeah that’s you were having with JB yeah I mean my son’s worst nightmare is that my wife starts coaching JV which they asked her to do and she’s like like my son would just die really coach Monty come on man coach Monty ain’t gonna do it that ain’t gonna work for Mas at all uh what’s the last thing I have oh if anybody wants to I uh turned in my car for its yearly service yesterday and uh and they gave me a loner it’s out out there right now uh it it is uh it’s a triple motor uh plaid mode model X I know any of that let me put it this way so my car it’s a car it’s a car okay so my car it does 0 to 60 somewhere in the 4 second range pretty quick right but you know this is 0 to 60 in 2.1 it actually has a mode where it takes about five minutes to heat the engine up right for for whatever they call it cheetah mode and then you get well this is a allegedly I haven’t done this yet because of course you’re speeding you wouldn’t do that but you get to the uh you get to like the red light or the stop you got to make sure no one’s around and then you put one foot on the brake and one foot all the way down on the gas right it’s called drag strip mode and uh sound you wait for it to go Meep and then you take your foot off The Brak and and you’re gone and you’re gone and oh my go like it’s like almost too bad like it’s no nobody should have that fast of a car on the road I’m just saying that right now like I nobody nobody should have that fast of a car in the I don’t know what the purpose of having a car that fast from the road is but boy is it fun though if anybody wants rides after the show I’m here although we can do our show meeting oh from the car from the car yeah carpool meetings yeah I put a towel over the sink to shave that sheet sounds nice that sheet sounds nice it is like five bucks yeah exactly all right we’ll take a break uh we got a lot to talk about today unfortunately one of the things we have to talk about it is weird how anecdotes out there uh about him that we will share we are one week away from the NBA draft and uh we had a firing in the NBA over the weekend which is going to solve all the issues for that club so released by The the Giants that the great Willie Mays has passed away he passed away peacefully the afternoon at the age of 93 as the Giants come to bat here in the fifth inning with Jorge Solair then Nick ahed and jrmy the Giants release said it is with great sadness that we announced that Giants Legend and Hall of Famer Willie Mays passed away peacefully this afternoon uh Michael Mays Willie’s son quoted as saying my father has passed away peacefully and among loved ones I want to thank you all from the bottom of my broken heart that’s uh the news that came out and you heard John Miller read it live that was the TV broadcast uh coming up in the next segment we’ll go over Willie by the Numbers uh it was so much more than just numbers uh and then we’re going to play audio uh and our thanks of KBR uh the the flagship of of the Giants of Dave Fleming doing it on the radio and I gotta be honest man like you know look I’m super sad Willie May passed away but I wasn’t like emotional about it and then I heard Dave Fleming’s call I got emotional like he and we’ve had him on the show before he’s such a great broadcaster and uh it started so young too it’s funny how I was uh watching a broadcast the other day and he was telling Mike KR how his Kruk was congratulating him because his uh his twins just graduated and uh are going to Yale both of them yeah they both got into Yale of course they did uh and I’m thinking God you know we’re about the same age and he’s got uh you know how how time flies because I remember when his kids were born so anyways he you couldn’t have done it more perfect the the the the the fact that he got he was able to get the news out but you hear the emotion we’ll let you listen for yourself um and and you know I I was Mickey Manel guy um you know just growing up the the mick I’ve told you that before like was the first real sports book I read but as a Giants fan lifelong Giants fan um you just you couldn’t not worship Willie Mays and we’re even talking about the off field stuff like that’s a [Music] whole book of things but just the say Hey kid the catch the things that he did 660 well 662 now is it uh Godfather to uh Barry Bonds um the relationships he had including I’ll read an anecdote a little bit later our old friend FP s Angelo shared a story um and it it just look everyone’s going to die man it’s going to happen and Willie lived a very long very long very fruitful life but then it happens and it just it’s one of those things where everybody just kind of questions their mortality it wasn’t to say hey man it wasn’t the say hey middle-aged adult it wasn’t the say hey old man it was the say Hey kid and look not to get morbid here Jason although I I normally do it a joking way but in all seriousness like whether it’s in our lifetime or not but somebody listening right now is going to be around someday when Ken Griffey Jr passes backwards hat you know he’s the he’s the other kid and someday people are going you know hopefully many decades from now are gonna be recalling like we haven’t really with the exception of you know like a Kobe Bryant and and things where they’re gone way too soon we’re certainly not old enough yet to be losing a lot of Idols that were in their Prime when we were kids so for somebody like my dad our parents generation losing woolly May is it’s just an insane thing to think about yeah and just you know like anytime this happens the the outpouring of what people say and you could just tell the impact it had on people yeah right I mean it just whether that was certainly as a hero to just it sounds like he was just like an all-time just nice person yes and then you know lived this a long life I IID remembered uh when I’d heard the Giants were going to uh where they rickford yeah rickford Birmingham yep yeah and a lot of it was GNA be he was going to be honored there as well and then the word came out maybe about a week or two ago that he wasn’t going to be able to attend I thought oh man that’s too bad and then you just didn’t know that he wasn’t uh doing so well here at the end but I mean 93 man he actually wrote a note about that we’ll read later about him missing uh the the the trip to Redford yeah and um yeah lot lot lot to go through with that and and honestly I mean there’s been some talk about it I’m sure it won’t happen you know there’s the one universally retired number that’s of course Jackie Robinson and you don’t want to mess with that at all but somebody brought up the idea of retiring 24 and I you know I’m kind of a fan of that like and you don’t do it for everybody but let’s be honest you know Willie Mickey Ted Williams uh Babe Ruth uh garri H you know someday uh you know you’re you’re going to have you don’t do it for everyone but I think you can do it for like 10 or 15 guys there’s enough numbers um you know I don’t know I don’t but those are mostly good numbers you cut number two I’ll be able to have 39 cut number two number two with the first pick in the 2023 NBA draft the San Antonio Spurs select Victor w Yama in nonar France remember that yeah shocker yeah the pick that changed the franchise again for the third time I still don’t think we T I mean it’s not like we can go in depth on it but it’s still just is still insane to me that the Spurs got David Robinson Tim Duncan and Victor wanyama that is just honestly ridiculous but that’s what happened last year now there’s certainly uh nobody in this draft class expected to do anything close to what Victor wama did but never know there was you know nobody in the second round a few years ago was expected to do much of whatever and now we got a three-time MVP out of it you just you never know so we got a week from today a lot of these mocks are uh zeroing in on on folks uh obviously including the Sacramento Kings uh I saw not a new name but Ron Holland was is who ESPN has the kings taking there’s a number of our local media and bloggers that would be over the moon uh if they took Ron Holland really like him I’ve been reading about that I still don’t think they’ll they’ll keep the pick um and obviously and there’s rumors about that they’ve been shopping it around and there there’s a rumor over the weekend we’ll talk about Zack LaVine Alex Caruso which I’ve I’ve always said I’m not a huge fan of grabbing Zack LaVine in that contract if you can get Zack LaVine and Al Caruso and you’re giving up you know non non Keegan Fox sabonis and you’re not completely mortgaging your draft picks because Chicago wants off LaVine if Monty can pry those two away now kuso I believe is in the in the final year of his deal but again they’ll have him they’ll have that ability to reson him I’ve always said you got to make a move that gives you an opportunity to win a championship I’m not trying to say LaVine and Caruso are the difference but Lavine Caruso the development of Keegan Murray other guys on the team blah blah blah yes I can squint and say okay this could be a squad that could make some noise yeah for sure so it’s exciting time it is an exciting time it’s a scary time o uh oh by the way one other note about my kids game we always talk trash like we’re a trash talking family we so like my kid second shot there’s only like 30 people there it’s a summertime scrimmage it was hot in the gym there like 30 people there and my son his first shot was a corner three air balled it and I just Instinct I was like air ball and then as soon as I got to ball like I realized everyone was looking at me and didn’t I think there were some people that didn’t realize that was his dad yeah and was like why are you screaming airball at this chop what are you doing it’s my kid yeah it’s my and that’s what I wanted to say no I’m that doesn’t make you look B I know right it I was kind of I was like it’s I’m heckling my kid it’s okay but not really but that’s how we are anys don’t scream ball at your kid in scrimage ever all right cut number three please cut number three well Monty Williams was certainly blindsided today by the timing uh of his dismissal he had been in meetings with their new president of basketball operation Tran Len for weeks preparing for next season they hired a new assistant coach recently in Fred Vincent and listen they are just one week away from the draft but this was a decision made at the ownership level with Tom Gore’s uh in Detroit the same man who gave uh Monty Williams and recruited Monty Williams uh with that six-year nearly $80 million deal last season after he left Phoenix and this is an organization at the very top levels that simply couldn’t get past the 14- win season the 28 game losing streak but they have really put themselves far behind in this coaching search put Tran Lang their the new president in a very diff ult position to start a coaching search a week from the draft about 10 days from the start of free agency and certainly for the Pistons you know they hit the reset button uh at the coaching position and again they owe Monty Williams over 65 million uh to go away he obviously is a two-time NBA coach of the year well that solves it damn him Monty Williams it’s why the Pistons were so bad totally nothing to do with upheaval within the organization draft picks I mean owner’s GNA owner Governor’s get a governor it’s just I just kept hearing all that and all that dysfunction I go gosh they came in a golden one and beat the Kings exactly why did you say that’s what I that’s what I was thinking I wasn’t and now I am yeah sit on that one uh sit he passes and the the the reverence people will have for him and then others go I never saw him play but I know he’s talked about in this elite air about him and you just go yeah that’s that’s what Willie ma is for me right I mean I did never see but there’s no one that ever like questions him right as a player as a person it’s like it’s just it’s all um credit and that’s great I’ve never seen that I’ve never seen on the hot take shows yeah not once have I ever seen Willie ma was overrated here’s why yeah uhuh you might uh you might have heard this before there’s [Music] that’s the catch in the World Series the greatest catch of all time I I remember getting into a uh oh God I think this was on the old night show remember getting into a debate once with somebody because I was like you know Jim Edmonds actually had a better catch but the truth of the matter is is when you combine the catch the yardage he put in to catch the ball Jim Edmond’s catch when you look at it he’s like straight up diving no look catches it but also it because Jim Edmond is a lot slower than Willie Mays Willie I wouldn’t say made it look easier but he did make it look easier than the catch actually was because he was so Fleet to foot and amazing but also the throw people really don’t give the throw enough credit uh and the situation it was in makes it the greatest catch of all time uh some numbers for you on Willie May uh he is the only player in baseball history to have simultaneously checked all of these boxes lifetime batting average over 300 winning at least 10 gold gloves hitting at least 300 home runs nobody else has done that he doubled that by the way more than double yeah he did it’s insane in 23 Seasons with the Giants Mets and black Barons he hit 660 home runs he was a 24 time Allstar he was a 12-time Gold Glove winner World Series champion and there’s two stats here Jason that absolutely Blow Me Away these are fun water cooler stats from 1955 to 1964 okay you had 10 MVP winners in the National League now just to be even fair a couple of those were pitchers so if you take all the MVP winners in the NL for those 10 years and you add in the runners up in in the Years there was a pitcher the the first offensive player Willie Mays had better numbers then all of them combined wow now I want to make sure everybody understands that you take the 10 MVP winners in that period and you combine their offensive num numbers they had almost the exact same at bats by the way it’s not some some trick where a bunch of them got injured Willie had 30 more at bats than the other 10 MVP winners combined and he had more runs by 150 he actually had 16 less hits he had 25 more doubles 13 more triples 119 more home runs 82 more RBI almost 200 more walks 105 more Steals and had a better average slugging all that stuff and then if you go for the Nerds the winds above replacement the other 10 MVPs combined 72.9 Willie Mays 93.4 and if you understand war that is B Nas but maybe the most fun wiie May stat you can just throw out Willie Mays had he played in 24 All-Star games right but he played 22 Seasons he played in 24 All-Star games in 22 Seasons you go well how the hell did that happen well back in the day in order to boost up pensions for baseball players there was a i I think about a 10-year period they had two All-Star games oh wow they had two All-Star games in a year and uh by the way there were two years where he didn’t have All-Star appearances oh he was fighting for our country in Korea yeah which again hey uh H how’s Jason Tatum going to do with Jaylen Brown defending the Celtics title this year actually the Celtics may not defend their title they’re both in Afghanistan right like just imagine people talk about Patman rest rest in peace just imagine your favorite athletes going to war Ted Williams obviously is probably the most celebrated example the great Willie maze I mean it just there will never you can’t compare it there’s it’s it’s incomparable yeah I loved some of the things I saw too uh gosh what was it oh was the Mets oldtimers day where Willie made like this incredible catch and he’s probably in his early 50s in his earlys I looking for it and uh I never thought of it for cuz uh what was it to get in Chris 25 bucks uh if you have certain credit card you get $30 $30 you have a certain credit card you get in for it’s part of your deal but if you don’t you can get in for 30 bucks and so I remember Chris asking me about it for a flight and I was like I mean I wouldn’t pay 30 bucks for it you know there’s there’s some food and this and that whatever he’s like well what if you drink and I was like oh you know what I didn’t think about that that I’m actually honestly surprised drinks free the drink yeah oh yeah oh multiple well and with uh I mean what is a like a beer at the airport 10 bucks right and then and then a mixed drink would be what more 12 13 yeah so you have three let’s say we I had three and you’re you’re way ahead of the game not to mention they got little snacks and foods and stuff you can take a couple waters on the plane uh I’m honestly surprised they offer that and I think the reason they offer it is because people hav’t figured it out yet once people figure out that you can just pop $30 down well for example if somebody were to do a radio show and say publicly that you can do that uh I I have a feeling pretty because then you’re getting all the snoody card holders and you’re like what what are these peasants doing it I can’t get in common folk the commons that’s some good advice too if you are especially if you’re in a bigger airport and you have a long layover is to search for the different lounges that you get get a day pass for 100% % and and look there’s and again do your research but there’s cards out there where that’s my gig I have a card I put everything on it I put everything on that card and then we just pay it every month I keep the points and and you get clear in TSA you get that kind of stuff they have all kinds of deals like 10 bucks off a month on your Comcast internet just crap like that if you use the card for it that’s for again for people who travel it’s actually kind of a lot of people it’s a hobby like it’s kind of a side hobby of M like oh I can gather the points and then you know get to right figure out all the little cat you know yeah things you get rewarded on nothing wrong with saving a buck not at all nothing wrong we’re not all uh Monty Williams sitting on 65 million right you know one thing I wish we knew more at times in the NBA for example and and there’s never really Clarity um on it so Monty Williams is still owed five years he’s fired by the Pistons five years 6 5 million left on this contract all right I’m just going to use the Kings for an example because this obviously isn’t gonna happen say Mike Brown gets fired next year right gets fired midseason Kings go to hire Monty Williams who’s gonna be a commodity somebody’s gonna two-time Coach of the Year someone’s hiring money so what happens that five years and $65 million like does he get all the 65 no matter what or and I’ve learned this in Europe this happens a lot you get that 5 million if you stay on the sideline but once you get a job then either it goes away you you forfeit that and you just get you don’t get to double dip or other teams will factor that into your deal and be like okay you’re getting this we’ll add another million or two on top of that but then they take over that debt I always wonder like how that works because if you’re Monty Williams I’m seriously considering what thinking five years off I’ll go find something else to do that doesn’t conflict with that maybe maybe Monty will be an analyst or something and if you see Monty Williams pop up for the next five years as an analyst you know why because he’s he’s making $15 million a year to scratch his butt and I say good for him you know I remember a time not that long ago Jason when the Phoenix Suns were the surprise team in the NBA and one of the things that was talked about the most with them was Monty Williams and his ability to unite the team to get them on the right path and oh by the way Monty Williams had suffered an unspeakable tragedy and was just like the darling of the NBA or one of the Darlings because he’s just universally loved and respected and oh by the way went through Horrors and came out on the other side doing the best he could somehow in between there and now he’s lost his ability to coach I don’t buy it and this is one of those things uh where we played W earlier talking about this where the owner has stepped in and made the call right and new front office people and I understand and nobody understands more than Kings fans the idea of having a GM in place before you hire the coach that’s Monty stinking Williams you’re not talking about you know Fred McGill you’re talking about a two-time recent coach of the year and you’ve got this young team that does have talent they do have pieces they hell they’ve drafted top five for like it seems like 10 straight years you’re gonna default your way into that but apparently Monty’s the problem and honestly Jason the timing is my issue the season ended two months ago and and that’s why if the Detroit Pistons were anything close to a normal franchise I think the obvious thought would be well they’ve got somebody in mind and it’s a good one and they just said all right we’ll eat this contract because we’ve got this guy to agree to come on and we really really want him and I think by the way can I tell you the funniest thing the absolute funniest thing that could happen right now and I pray it will even though it won’t but the funniest thing that the Pistons have the opportunity to do the funniest thing in the NBA over the last 30 years and hire Dan how great would it be if they just turned around and Monty Williams goes to the Lakers and Monty Williams goes to the Lakers exactly which by the way um oh was it Anthony Irwin I think who’s a a longtime Laker uh Laker reporter he’s not just some guy uh reported I want to say last what was Tuesday Tuesday yeah just a couple days ago yeah that the the redic deal’s done um well it’s it’s been a minute um but he’s not a guy that’s going to he’s not a guy that’s going to go out generally and and and say something right um anyways um you do Wonder now if Will Monty Williams pop up in there I’d be if you’re the Lakers you have talk to him right yeah unless you’ve Davis in New Orleans right and and they got along from what I understand just fine I don’t know man it it’s a weird thing and I sure am glad that uh we’re not we’re not in that position anymore uh one other thing here dearen Fox uh had a camp yesterday did some U you know a little bit of media availability and was asked about um his friend Malik Mon’s free agency I’ve never hit free agency before uh this is technically I guess his second time kind of hitting free agency but um seeing the player that he was whenever we signed him to the player that he I mean I wouldn’t even say that he’s become much of a different player he was able to show showcase more of what he could do um but just being able him being able to be in this situation and obviously having multiple teams that are trying to come after him um I’m definitely happy for him and obviously we want him to stay but at the end of the day he has to do what’s best for him you guys just go back to college right haven’t you even asked him about it no I don’t know I mean I don’t really ask him funny enough I we saw saw him uh Monday Sunday Monday we saw we saw him Le Monday um I’m not sure I don’t we’re we’re we’re we’re friends first and then you know that side is that side but I don’t really ask him about it I ask him where he’s been on vacation and where is fresh uh how’s your mom doing how’s your brother how’s your um how’s your nephew like I’m not really asking him anything else about anything about free agency if you heard he go on in the background that was his son yeah rain was on his lap just getting tired getting tired of Dad yeah exact wrap it think it’s fine yeah I have no issue that’s great can’t tell a team how to celebrate have fun no by the way I don’t think you had to go to Miami either no I’m pretty sure if you wanted to go hang with your family or do whatever you’d go ironically when the Heat won the championship they went up to Boston you know right like where does Miami go where where do they go when they win a title we’re taking our talents to Sacramento here yeah that’s right come right here number two please question two where will the Kings go next year by the way after they win when they win the title uh PA f actually yeah they have a place up there Cincinnati then Syracuse Kansas City Cincinnati Syracuse no Rochester oh no that’s getting way too crazy screw that uh mty Williams was fired and still has 65 million on his deal right move for the Pistons I’m not gonna get caught up in the 65 million for two reasons number one it’s not my money number two uh it doesn’t affect the salary cap so if the owner wants to just blow $65 million I wish he’d blow some of it my way but uh I don’t I don’t care but is are you going to find a coach out there that’s better than Monty Williams I doubt it it it it look a coach can improve things in the margins I know everybody wants to give Mike Brown credit for changing the culture and this team making the playoffs two years in a row and you know what he deserves a lot of that but I think Mike Brown would also tell you that you know damont sabonis and dearen fox kind of helped and I’m pretty sure that Mike Brown can do all the yelling and turning the Jets on and anything he wants but if this was the uh Kings team four or five years ago he’s probably not making the playoffs and changing the culture you’re only as good as Chef Jason as the ingredients you have and I don’t see anything that was Monty Williams’s fault unless there’s some crazy internal stuff but again universally respected it just seems like a a knee-jerk move by a knee D Squad yeah two things feel like are in play potentially here one they had someone else in mind but that has not been announced as of now or two is it literally just the new front office and you just go okay well this felt like this could have been done in a better way you just paid a boatload of money to bring him in a year ago he had a terrible year we get that but I mean In fairness to him he he should have multiple years to get this right yes so um I I can’t even really comment yet on the move because you don’t even know what’s next I mean I I’m not I think there’s a a slight tinge of um I I really think you need to wait on the next result because if for whatever reason new coach comes in and they win a bunch of games it will feel like a better move but is that because you got rid of Monty Williams or you got better players around there I and some of these players developed I mean it’s kind of which comes first here here’s Adrian wowski on it well Monty Williams was certainly blindsided today by the timing uh of his dismissal he had been in meetings with their new president of basketball operations Tran Lan for weeks preparing for next season they hired a new assistant coach recently in Fred Vincent and listen they are just one week away from the draft but this was a decision made at the ownership level with Tom gors uh in Detroit the same man who gave uh Monty Williams and recruited Monty Williams uh with that six-year nearly $80 million deal last season after he left Phoenix and this is an organization at the very top levels that simply couldn’t get past the 14- win season the 28 game losing streak but they have really put themselves far behind in this coaching search put Tran Lang there the new president in a very difficult position to start a coaching search a week from the draft about 10 days from the start of free agency and certainly for the Pistons you know they hit the reset button uh at the coaching position and again they owe Monty Williams over $65 million uh to go away he obviously is a two-time NBA coach of the year okay well you uh I just I being a piston fan I I I look we empathize been through a lot of years of crap um which also makes me so much more thankful you know the whole Mike Brown conversation a few weeks ago just so thankful to have that figured out be happy with your coach and Jason they got Kate Cunningham they have Jaden Ivy yeah aler Thompson Jaylen Duran they have pieces like I’m not trying to tell you that’s a championship team or nothing they’re about to get another draft pick uh in the old thing uh high draft pick like there there shouldn’t be 14 wins no that’s that’s exactly right they they should not be 14 wins uh they’re going to get the five pick in the draft this year as well um I don’t think they’re particularly cap hamstring no they’re a team member like they could be going after a guy like Malik yeah so you’re when you look at uh their C they are the they have the fourth most well actually oh my God let me see here hold on a second yeah they have the second most space in the NBA you got Philly Philly is on the hook right now for $61 million next year uh Detroit on the hook for 685 million just to give you an idea in comparison the kings are on on the hook for 151 million next year Golden State 173 Phoenix 25 million it’s so funny Jason when you look or maybe sad when you look at the uh the top salary guys from this season uh Team wise Golden State Clippers Phoenix Milwaukee Boston and Denver Miami Lakers Dallas New Orleans at number 10 and really obviously with the exception of gentlemen good morning Kelly how are you how was the poptart Dave good ah you know I got a whole box of poptarts at home and one of the great Simple Pleasures of our childhood was a poptart have you watched the thing on Netflix the Jerry Seinfeld thing on it’s a little movie on the invention of the Pop-Tart no is it good it’s uh is it a big cast it’s a I mean everyone’s in it it’s one of those friends and family things and uh that’s half the fun is it’s just got everyone in it it’s a we watch it with the kids it’s a it’s a fun hour and a half it’s not the greatest thing I’ve ever seen but it was entertaining enough so uh there you go um we’re laughing and I hate to be that guy but uh one of one of the subjects we’re going to talk about no laughing matter it is uh we’ve had too much of this lately uh the passing of to to say a legend is almost like really does feel like an understatement when you talk about the Say Hey Kid Willie Mays uh passing over 90 lived a long life this wasn’t a tragedy he wasn’t taken from us too soon but he was kind of taken from us too soon because it just seems weird living in a world without Willie ma it does indeed and uh you you can only imagine the folks who put together the rickwood game uh you know you know they were Envision envisioning in their heart of hearts Willie being there being celebrated being you know truly getting his due um and so it was very sad that he passed only the same week as this event so but no Willie was I mean my dad was was an immigrant he loved Willie Mays he just thought you know to San Francisco and he he just and as a kid I can remember you know my dad taken me to Candlestick and Willie hit two home runs in one game and uh and Willie mccovy hit a grand slam and um I’m sure stretch was at the Pearly Gates there to greet Willie earlier this week you know on that note Kelly too about the game you’re right the Giants are heading to to play at rickwood and he was going to be honored there and and there were some news in the last week or so that he wasn’t be able to attend and then now obviously with this passing but just kind of games like that rickwood whether it’s fielded dreams games uh or other sports where they go to these other entities you think those are are those overall wins for for these Sports when they when they kind of Spotlight these kind of games I think so Jason I was driving my son cross country a few years ago and we happen to be driving through the great state of Iowa right after the field the dreams game the morning after and to listen to local radio uh I mean it was it was Electric it was just uh they loved every minute of it you know rickwood this was a you know it’s good for Birmingham Alabama too bringing in all the not only bringing in all these people but I mean Major League Baseball went in and spent a ton of money to get rickwood Major League ready they had to they had to completely strip off the field do all new uh you know drainage on it uh they said there was a hundred years of chalk had built up so that the foul lines were actually 10 inches higher than the rest of the field um so uh they’ve really redone it you know they have the Beautiful the um standards that used to hold the lights they left them there but they had to take out all the lights because these were glass lights and they were afraid that some you know some major leader was going to crush a line drive into the lights and glass would be showering down on fans and on so uh I think it’s um it’s very nostalgic it’s great you know I’m sure there’s a lot of logistical issues and uh you know I don’t know if the timing worked out or didn’t work out with Wily’s passing but this was to be a celebration of the Negro Leagues and obviously it’s juneth week as well so I I think they’re going to keep doing it and it I’ll watch today too uh he had sent a letter out uh just recently uh I won’t read the whole thing but basically saying I I wish I could come out to rickwood and be with you all and enjoy that field with my friend it’s been a part of my life for all of my life uh and just look I I I I’m going to Fumble what I’m about what I’m about to say but I I hope you get the meaning behind it if Willie was going to pass and he was at some point we all will I think the fact that it’s so close to the game is actually kind of special because we always talk about this Kelly uh whether it’s Jerry West whether it’s Bill Walton and we’ll get into that in the next segment if there is a air quote bright side to a legendary person passing it’s that a whole new generation is renewed uh or informed of that person and there is a celebration of that person’s life that will will put smiles on a lot of people’s faces him passing so close to this game uh I is I don’t want to use serendipitous but it’s the coincidence I think will be incredibly extra special because this was already celebration of Willie in in a sense it’s just now going to be a parade a a a Willie Disneyland if you will of of all things Willie Mays and he deserves that and 30,000 times more oh oh we lost Kelly for a second why is it when we why is it whenever we have a tech issue there there you are Kelly you’re back like I try to be profound it’s like don’t no no no no you are profound Dave and uh I I think to I think tonight will be a memorial service for Willie and it it’ll be seen by more people and enjoyed by more people than if he hadn’t than if he had passed next week or if he had passed a month ago so you’re right there there is certain poignancy to it Bob cus gets to break out his thesaurus and uh and go to words I’ve never heard before but for those who watched Willie he was not just the greatest player of his generation he was the greatest player anyone’s ever seen and I saw him play I mean the only the only player I’ve ever I would ever put next to Willie just in sheer Talent would be Bo Jackson because Bo Jackson did things I never saw anyone else do on a baseball field but um and there have been a lot of other great players but there was only one Willie Mays and of course you know we haven’t even gotten into what he meant not just in terms of of uh of race in Major League Baseball but also in terms of the uh um the acceptance of a of teams moving from New York to California in the 1950s that was a huge deal and Willie Mays is the one who smoothed that over and and helped make it happen and make it real very very quickly yeah as we’re talking with Kelly Brothers Kelly uh Dave and I in the last segment we’re talking this would be good for you for the business angle here about um you look athletes get paid a ton of money coaches get paid a ton of money how about getting paid a ton of money in one year and then basically say you’re gone in a case like Monty Williams um getting paid a ton to go away like I’m not even sure what Detroit is doing here what’s your whole opinion on uh on that and the Monty Williams firing yeah I uh I mean Monty has had a lot of hardship in his life uh you talk to people they U you know they say you won’t meet a nicer guy in the NBA um but but and I don’t I don’t understand why Phoenix got rid of him but they they they he left there with 20 million left now Detroit get Detroit has nothing Detroit Detroit is I mean Detroit is the well no is Bagley still there is he gone I he went to Washington G he went to Washington you’re right yeah I think he’s gone but so now he’s he’s basically being paid $85 million not to coach by two NBA teams right and you and you and you know he’ll be picked up if he wants to be uh he he can ab absolutely go somewhere else but I don’t know 65 million buyouts when this is just a case I think of one GM going out another one coming in saying I want my guy and an owner with more money than sent saying go ahead hire your own guy I got a money question for you Kelly kind of personal but you can just apply I I want to ask you I will just ask you in a broad sense to generally in television when let’s say um let’s say uh KC signed you to a a fiveyear hundred million deal to come back and anchor something right I know I know right are are are those are those are those numbers in TV if I’m correct are those guaranteed like if you get fired two years in are you still getting paid out in your experience yeah oh yeah unless you’re fired for cause but right if you’re uh but if you’re just if you’re if you’re just let go but you know usually they don’t they’ll demote you um or they will uh I was with a one of my mentors a guy that I really loved working for a guy named Bill Balman last weekend and Bill uh went on to become the general manager of a station in Orlando and when he was 57 he they asked him if he’d sign one more threeyear if he’d sign a three-year deal and he said yeah but he said this will be my last three-year deal I will be at 60 I’ll be done doing this and um so anyway he he had a great track record but when he was 59 they came to him and said hey Bill we found the guy uh that we want to replace you and he’s available now so we are just going to wish you a good retirement we will pay you every penny of the contract we owe you and we’ll have a retirement party for you and we’ll celebrate you but we found your replacement now and we don’t think we’re going to get the same caliber of person a year from now so you’re you’re done and he said at first I was a little slightly offended then a week in I’m thinking this is great so yeah they they will they usually will pay those out Dave unless there’s a unless there’s sort of firing for cause must be nice we get like I could sign a we have contracts going on right now I could sign a 10year deal Jason same thing 10year deal we get we get what do we three month Severance they can fire US 20 minutes after we sign the deal that’s why DAV has signed 12 consecutive one-year deals because why the hell would you not um the the uh I’m pretty sure this is where you were going in our notes and it’s worth it too um the uh first ever Forbes or no maybe it was sporo uh whoever sporo put out the WNBA franchise valuations nice profit for all bull cut Mark Davis uh he did not know how to run an NFL team but boy uh he can’t deny the money he made off the aces no yeah just to give you an idea so he bought that team for $2 million in 21 two million it’s now valued according to sportico at one uh 140 million doll now I will say he uh he’s invested in it he built the only uh training facility just for w for WNBA team which is just spectacular for the aces he hired is it Becky Hammond from uh he he’s paying her a million bucks a year he hired her from I believe San Antonio to come in and run that team they’ve won two titles in a row so he he took uh what was probably an underappreciated asset and he invested in it built it and in and literally go from 2 million to 140 million in three years is astounding and you yeah you say yourself what if you can do that with the WNBA what exactly is going on with the Raiders what what what what aren’t we figuring out there long story there lastly uh Kelly over the weekend um Bryson D Shambo takes home the US Open very uh exciting finish tough one for Rory uh what’s what’s this going to do for for a guy like Bryon D Shambo you look at the numbers of who he added on Instagram on YouTube in the 24 to 48 hours after he won it’s amazing his YouTube subscribers on track now to pass all PGA YouTube subscribers so there are those who believe that um he has resurrected His Image not his career His Image he was seen as kind of truculent and a little bit of a a Mal content or just a he was just a different bird but the YouTube thing has really humanized him my kids watch it um I have not watched it to be honest with you but uh he has whoever is PR people they’re giving him some good advice and he has completely turned that around but again one of those players where you and I are not seeing him as much because he’s on the live tour so we’re seeing him in majors and that’s pretty much it but he his YouTube um uh strategy has worked and of course winning solves a lot of issues too and and I agree and and you and I both have feet and PR I completely agree with you because they never get credit there’s a team behind him that is is drawn up plays and they’re gorgeous plays but also and I know you agree with me here you have to have that natural Jenna qua you have to be able to execute those plays and his interactions on the course uh I don’t Kelly did you see the Golf Channel clip that night where they had the guy I forget his name in the bunker trying to recreate the shot and all of a sudden Bryson shows up and he hits his second shot I think to two feet if you haven’t seen it it’s probably the best pure Sports content I’ve seen in the last decade it’s insane and and Bryson’s a part of that getting drunk and hitting balls later that night glow balls uh uh the the the the house he rented going up and down the street it was a block party letting people come out and touch the trophy like that that’s all him and you’re right just like he changed his body back and forth he’s become this chameleon and I don’t mean that in a negative way with his personality and and really outside of tiger uh and then you could argue Rory uh but maybe even at this point Phil yeah Bryson’s the guy no he he he is and uh who hasn’t had a great round of golf had a few drinks and thought I’m gonna go out and hit that shot again on 18 um I mean that’s just that’s just you know it reminds me a little bit of uh who was it Shane Lowry or a few of these people who would you know win a major championship and go back to their home Pub and what that would look like I mean it’s like the return of a Conquering Hero but you’re right that was great content and Bryson has the personality to play it off to to not play it off I don’t want he’s not he’s not doing it to gain viewers it’s just who he is um a and you just hope that we get to see him more often because he is on the live tour although I think the live tour is in Nashville this week or somewhere a little bit closer to home but no you’re he he’s got an unbelievable opportunity right right right here right now but it also guys that also I think we mentioned talked about this once before too Scotty sheffler’s amazing run is not possible if a lot of these guys hadn’t disappeared to the live tour true last thing I know we’re way over but whatever uh people want long anyways hey they might fire you you got three weeks sever yeah exactly um let’s see uh oh by the way from the taex line Kelly just used the word truculent Dave had no idea what that means uh as a matter of fact I heard him say it I know exactly what TR it means to truckle so uh Kelly uh I’m gonna I’m gonna serve the audience because that’s what we’re here for I’m I’m fighting with our Booger Eater Raider fans again but I will honor their request because I was supposed to bring this up last week um I’ve often had this dream that fans could someday in my lifetime organize you know we talk about a players union uh you’ve got umpires unions you’ve got owners who are basically their own Union but in the end the power always lies with the fans it should lie with the fans and one thing I’ve experienced working in Europe a little bit with these soccer clubs is that they have legit team Union organizations for fans uh for example huttersfield toown they have this group called ATT allog together town and and like they get meetings quarterly and they have input and they’re listened to and and if these unions aren’t listened to uh they can boycott things real real real real quick they have input on everything do you think we could see a day if it’s organized properly where we have satellite unions for all these different teams that actually have real power in the sports world in America uh well first of all Dave if there was one you’d be the head of the Union I mean in any ways you were the head of the Union you were they’d be you you were the Jimmy hofa of the sack Kings Union no doubt about it um I’m leaving that alone why I’m trying to bait you into something here I know you are you know I I I I think uh uh I I think owners would pay lip service to listening to the union but it’s going to come down to uh media rights uh media rights will always Trump the fans I think because they feel the fans are going to come out anyway uh but but maybe not maybe I’m just being cynical about that but uh I I don’t know I need to I need to talk to you more about okay what is going on and and and how much power they really have or do they just have a very talented ownership group can make that can make people feel heard but at the same time do what they were going to do anyway Kelly Brothers with a truculent criticism my H Kelly I just I just truckled you I have been truckled all right well uh truckle off Bill Walton passed May 27th uh and then you had Jerry West last week and it is weird I don’t think they always come in threes but I think when they do come in threes we we say that yeah we we just kind of it makes sense uh but Bill Walton Jerry West and Willie ma now look I I understand that it’s like one of these kids is doing his own thing is Bill Walton as a player it was nowhere near uh in the ballpark of the legend of Jerry West and Willie May um but it was what what what puts bill in that category though is by the way he had a Hall of Fame playing career it’s not like he was a guy yeah and robbed by injuries to 100% but also his contributions to basketball after his playing um were as if not more legendary than than his his his career the person he was the anecdote and this what I’m talking about this is why I had you know you get that lump in the throat smile when somebody like that passes is the amount of anecdotes and stories we heard about Bill Walton over the last month have been just you know some of them we knew some of them we even us found found out PE people that that met and or knew Bill a little bit found out stuff people coming out of the woodwork about it but I I I I I think I’m you know sports radio is full of hyperbole you talk about records never being broken I think I’m comfortable in saying this Jason we will never over a two-e period lose two bigger Sports icons than what just happened not it’s never happened before and it will never happen again we lost the [Music] logo and if there’s like a logo equivalent for baseball if it ain’t Willie May he’s he’s on the the the one count on oneand list of that that’s how iconic he was I don’t think that’s ever goingon to H I don’t think it’s possible for that to ever happen again I find myself because we always need to break everything down and all that is you know depending on how you feel about you know everything else but is his godson now the greatest living who’s the greatest living player in baseball now I was really trying to think about that because it was Willie I don’t know who it is yeah I mean I think this is all opinion Bas of course of course I think a lot of people would say bonds yeah and and when you think about that Gap and all the players that came between Willie Mays and Barry Bonds that’s saying something um I saw somebody write something about uh they said he said like I’m 37 years old Ken griffy Jr is the greatest center fielder I’ve seen in my lifetime and then underneath it had Willie Ma’s stats and Ken gury Jr stats Ken didn’t beat him in one like that’s how good Willie was Ken griffy Jr was not better than Willie Mays in any of the major statistical categories that’s how great he was and uh there will be a lot of memories I don’t know if you saw his uh his statue in Willie May paa flowers and you know it’s it’s almost become a you know the center of the morning and a lot of those people didn’t know wiie may person most of them didn’t Williams and B do you agree I think the funniest thing Detroit could do right now ever in the history of the NBA is to hire Dan Hurley yeah I mean please please make it happen or JJ reic would be second the JJ thing would be be quite a curveball because it continues to look like he’s the next Lakers coach but you know we don’t quite understand what the delay is and so if the Lakers you know did want him and lost him because of some mysterious delay that would be strange I mean Monty I don’t have total Clarity on on what put it over the edge um you know they had just recently hired an assistant coach from New Orleans who was um close with him and it was kind of perceived that was a sign that he was going to be sticking around um you know that sort of money you know Tom Gores is not hurting has plenty of cash but to to send a guy packing with that much money left on his deal is pretty staggering uh you know the biggest thing and the the obvious Factor there you know was Tran langon took over that front office after you know spending a lot of years in New Orleans and uh and and wanted a clean slate you know what I’m hoping to learn more about is you know how did Monty move in these final weeks you know there’s some sense that um you know if you make it clear in some form or fashion that your heart’s not in it anymore which you know there are some rumors that that’s how he was kind of moving then maybe that played a part but um but yeah still pretty surprising move when when and I know we’re speculating on rumors if you’re saying maybe his heart wasn’t in it does that mean his heart wasn’t in Detroit or could Monty be a player in Cleveland La other potential openings do you think it’s what’s what do you think that part of him maybe not being in on it means uh I I I you know the early reporting from elsewhere this is not you know this was an ESPN report I believe was that he would likely um not be ready to jump back in that he wanted to to coach so I’ll just kind of relay that I guess um if you go back too it’s funny I talked uh on on my podcast this week about this to the way Monty got the job in the first place um and this is a little bit of a stretch but I I made this comparison between Monty Williams situation going into Detroit you know after um getting fired in Phoenix and then after telling everybody he didn’t want to coach for a while that he wanted a break U and the parallel I made was Paul George in free agency with the Clippers like two situations where um I don’t personally think that Paul you know I think he has concerns about the Clippers I know I’m off on a tangent here but um possibly trading him if he resigns because there have been signs of that in the past and so if your heart’s not in a certain Venture I think you should think twice about it well when Monty went to Detroit everybody knew that he wasn’t really ready to coach again and the reality of money is that that just finally became such a big number that he did it I don’t think holistically that’s the right type of way to enter a situation and I think that Beed out um you know I think Tom Gorge should have thought a little more more critically about where Monty was in life at that point well and it should be said elephant in the room here we’re alluding to it but and and this is pure speculation if this even was the case which we don’t know but if anyone I know in sports had an excuse for their heart not being into coaching NBA players it would be Monty Williams and so if that does end up being a thing where he just ain’t there uh as much as he wants to be Sam I think we all agree he he’s the one guy more than anyone that his story is is unbelievably amazing tragic heartwarming heartbreaking uh and we were talking about this morning you know it was just was not that long ago where he was leading the biggest Resurgence in the NBA he was the coach of the year twice he and and more than that just this story of perseverance through unspeakable tragedies and his ability to bring culture and players together was really the the the talk of the NBA that it seems like that was five minutes ago for sure and and the people watching on video saw me playing with my phone I was trying to confirm the backstory there so in the timeline so 2016 his wife ingred dies in a tragic car accident and and you know not only like you said was that just unbelievably painful for him and his family and their kids but um you know his kind of resilience through that was pretty inspirational for a lot of people and then you know he had t talked going into getting the Pistons job about you know he remarried and and he was in a different chapter um and was trying to to kind of live his life and then his you know his second wife was diagnosed with breast cancer so no question off the court he’s had a lot of struggles and uh you know I think again that would that would probably lead me to believe that that he’s ready to take a breather and just go he’s got a a ranch outside of San Antonio and um you know I think that’s his happy place and I would imagine he’s going to be there quite a bit can I I just Jason real quick I want to follow up on something that you and I were talking about earlier and again Sam I don’t know if you have any Clarity on this but I’ve always wondered is there a standard in the NBA for example let’s say Monty uh you know some team wants to hire M next year he’s owed five years $65 million did if he gets hired by another team does he still get the 565 do contracts vary on this does the other team pick some of that up do you have any side on that at all I mean my I believe it’s you know that typically it’s it’s just an offset so I mean that is the funny part of the Lakers situation is that you know the question becomes could they get him on the cheap because the Pistons owe him so much money and it would only you know just kind of barely lessen what the Pistons owe him um now you know that’s just my general two cents on the way it normally works um I think that’d be a terrible look for the Lakers because they’re already being you know people some people think the Dan Hurley offer wasn’t enough so you know and historically their coaching uh salaries have not been at the top of the league so the perception would be that you know let’s say a team like the Lakers went got a guy like Monty Williams you know you’d be getting him just so you get a bargain but um but yeah typically it’s it’s an offset one more thing on it too Sam I know it’s new front office as you alluded to in Detroit and when you do this two months in it feels like maybe they’ve got someone in line any any word on what the Pistons who the Pistons might be looking at no although I mean not for me admittedly you know yesterday was kind of re-entry mode after the finals I I wasn’t banging the phones too hard but um they reportedly according to to Vinnie Goodwill my my buddy from Yahoo sports and we we hit on it earlier that that he did report that JJ was a a name to watch um you know so that I thought it was inter interesting you know you still got James bgo who folks think is is probably headed to Cleveland but that hasn’t happened yet um you know and from where from there rather we’ll see you know the draft is coming up quick for the Pistons that’s a bigger priority than than most teams um so they got some work to do who are the kings gonna draft Sam couldn’t tell you buddy are they gonna keep are they gonna keep the pick uh I mean you know obviously plenty of chatter about them being aggressive and tied to Zack LaVine again tied to uh who’s the second name that they got tied to uh well LaVine and Caruso then uh and then you got obviously the kozma thing chilling there I mean there’s there’s been a couple yeah I mean I just don’t think they’re in the the draft business right now so I would lean toward um you know lean towards them trying to get something done but it’s always hard when you don’t know what those conversations have been um but I think you know this is we’ve talked about it back when Mike Brown’s contract situation was in flux just how important of an offseason this was and to finally you know go all into you know whatever that means for them uh when the West is as good as it is when you know when when uh you got so much money out to sabonis and fox and Keegan Murray you know getting better along the way you know they they need another piece so I think they’re going to be very active this week and one of those pieces that you know Kings fans are hoping is Malik Monk’s return and the last 24 hours or so everybody’s spending time trying to guess what his social media post means and this caption and all that what do I missed it what he do was just what was it Dave him floating on a raft in a in a pool basically right then it’s like my life’s about to take off like a rocket yes and then everyone’s like Houston well Houston doesn’t have a ton of money but trying to read I mean look he’s got to get paid whether it is Sacramento Sam or somewhere else so again that’s a tough exercise to try to read that but I think the bottom line Sam is there’s going to be plenty of teams going for Malik don’t you think yeah for sure but it is it’s funny um you know it’s been years it feels like anyway I could be wrong since free agency was you know had this kind of Pop to it if that makes sense you know free agency had become less relevant because every time we had a guy of any repute coming up on free agency um he’d find a way to to to push for a signing trade months earlier you know um And Trades had become the the kind of the headline way of of moving from City to City this one not only are there some good names in the mix but they you know you have these Wings where their Market is going to have to all unfold together I mentioned Paul George earlier I think he’s at the top of the list um you know and then when you get into the Klay Thompson Malik monk territory you know somebody like Malik is for one I think it’ll I think it’ll take a minute like unless you know what if in Orlando or some team like that said you know what we’d rather be you know deliberate and proactive and just put a bunch of money on the table for a guy like Malik rather than waiting to see what Paul George could like Paul George might take a while you know what I mean um so I’m very curious to see how these teams play it you know obviously Philly and and Orlando and Sack get mentioned the most often as the teams that that are probably in the running for a guy like Le but that goes for Paul that goes for clay you know San Antonio’s got a bunch of money what are they going to do um so yeah I think I mean I don’t know what Malik’s post means um you know there’s a lot of pools in Orlando that’s the first thought that that I had uh but that seems a little vague um the rocket thing yeah I mean I don’t know they is there a way for them to get that done they’ve got a good young team um I don’t know how he I don’t think he’d fit in very well but we’ll see it’s going to be active this Pascal SE yakam steal affect anything I mean since that the kind of parameters were there does that really rock anything at all for you no I mean that’s when he went there that was like the messaging right away was that he wasn’t going anywhere now obviously if it would have gone incredibly poorly then maybe it goes the other way but no I mean that’s you know that’s kind of goes back to the whole thing where the kings were going after cakam and then you know they had the Intel that that he didn’t necessarily want to be here long term we ever figure out why uh oh man now you’re gonna put me on the spot I mean no if you didn’t if you don’t then that’s fine no I mean I remember I I’m just trying to remember what I said back then because this is admittedly one of those where like I’ll go to the two two or three yard line I don’t want to say everything they there’s a there’s a all right hold on hold on hold on hold on everybody listening I need you to turn your radios down for the next 30 seconds tune out as I’m giving you permission tune just going to tell us yeah all right Sam it’s you me Chris and Jason go ahead it’s literally It’s You could argue it’s it’s Petty and I don’t know I’m not trying to take sides here so it could be you know off but For Better or Worse on the cakam side um there was an inference from his camp that that over the years and I don’t know what form this took but that there were like behind the scenes somewhat disparaging remarks made that came from the Kings about his game and and the you know the way it was framed to me was that that you know in an attempt to drive down what it would take to get him that like some gossipy type feedback on his game had gotten back to him um so it’s literally like if you’re on the you know if you’re in school and you just hear that somebody’s talking a little bit about you and you don’t forget you know like that’s that is the way it was put to me from his side interesting see Jason I told you words hurt I know you should have said that gotta be careful more careful on that uh Sam uh you said you’re kind of getting back home getting used to that mode you were you were following the finals around and um I don’t know I guess your overall final takeaway from kind of a pretty dominant performance by Boston yeah I mean um it’s funny because as happy as I am to be home um I’m always a little bit bummed when the finals are not a better matchup um so I found myself even in game five going all right like I kind of want Dallas to win because you know then the Celtics are going to have to at least reckon with a Dallas crowd and and then it will have been a six-game series and because Dallas was so good going into this matchup um and you know this knucklehead who gets paid to analyze basketball even picked him to win the whole thing and then you look at it I mean I think a lot of Luca’s performances were disappointing um and I I don’t use that word as if I’m in my feelings about a guy but like he was so good going in and then to see him get tripped up by some of his demons um arguing with the refs um effort on defense all those things was unfortunate but you got to give the Celtics credit because he didn’t do it in a vacuum he did it because the Celtics are so good and applied so much pressure to him and were so much more composed and mature and and together that that the end result was Luca you know he had some good numbers but like not leading his team the way he needed to Kyrie obviously struggling and you know a ton I thought about as a king’s Little T you know tent I guess it’s crazy because you just obviously the king should have drafted Luca donic that’s indisputable but it is it was so interesting to me get out of here Dave I didn’t say how was your play in Victory did you enjoy it Jes shots fired let me put I put on my helmet here yeah keep going we’re going old school but like I found it so interesting and I’ll be honest I kind of want to call Vlad and talk to him about this like that some of the qualities that concerned vlady when he made that choice like were his Lucas undoing now you just can’t you got to remind everybody it was on the finals stage the NBA Finals right you know the Kings have been celebrating their Western Conference Finals appearance for more than 20 years you know so like getting to the finals is a massive accomplishment but you know Luca was not at his best once he got there so we’re where I thought you were going and that’s where you were going was simply this and let’s just you know all fun aside they should have drafted Luka Marvin badley was a mistake like all that all that on the table but I’ve I’ve shared before at nauseum the conversations I’ve had and Samy had the same conversations with vady like for example the whole he was beefing with Lucas’s dad farce that was out there and then his con the concerns in the front office you know that he’s known Lucas since he was 12 and and or younger and there were concerns about his the the the length of his career the shape he was in or that he wasn’t the the the were there mirrorings of his dad who Vlad played with neither of us are obviously trying to say that they made the right move but I I agree with you I I think that it’s okay to say yeah you guys screwed up by not drafting Luka donic and we saw on the stage in the finals that yes some of the trappings uh and issues that vlady was was talking about uh may have come to the surface by the way he’s 25 years old he could change those so we’ll see that’s what’s crazy guys is like Jason Tatum was celebrated you know as a guy who like like he was right next to Al Horford as a guy who had been waiting so long to get a title right and so what I it cracks me up that Jason Tatum is the same age as Luca donic you know I mean um and so that’s a credit to Jason he’s already accomplished a lot more than Luca and and and has a championship now um so yes Luca is 25 I mean the one other thing to wrap that King’s part of this discussion is that you know listen vlad’s logic was always that if if he got Luca he would have to trade dearen because he didn’t think they could play together right um I mean when you’re talking about and I always hate making players sound like assets or Commodities but there’s an element of Truth in that like the idea that they used that pick to get a guy who is Irrelevant in the NBA um I mean like even if it didn’t work you needed to try to put Luca alongside dearen and just see where it goes and if it’s ugly early on and you and you don’t see it happening then make something happen because Luca was an elite player but you know man you see Luca and Kyrie finding a way to make it work and I know dearen and Kyrie are not exact comped by any means but um you know that’s another part of it for me is I wonder like could they have played together well Jason uh they did it with Fox and Tyrese halberton yeah you know not the same guy but still con though didn’t work but yet we’re able to yes yeah I’m sorry you’re making my point which is like yeah Tyrese turned into sabonis like Marvin turned into nothing you know yeah um Sam we uh probably one of the more difficult things maybe the finals was picking an MVP you got a chance to vote ah um I had wondered how much of a factor even if Drew holiday entered anybody’s mind but it looked at between the 11 votes seven of them including you picked Jaylen Brown four picked Jason Tatum um here we go again yeah tell us uh well he’s on the right side of this here’s andreal all over again they on the wrong side of this but anyway I was looking at the ballot I kept searching for Iguodala I couldn’t find the name how tough was it uh not that tough but like tough enough that I had to you know I did it is a funny unofficial process you end up you know coming to your own opinion but the clock is ticking you have to make the pick before the end of the game unless it’s like a you know they really really encourage you to make the pick you know near the end of the game and in this case that wasn’t that big of a deal but you’re you’re kind of polling people on press row you’re uh you know I was texting with a few colleagues of mine who I knew had votes to see what they were thinking um and you know and then admittedly thinking all right don’t text too many I’m not trying to to collude here um but like Jaylen was more consistent he was more impactful on both ends of the floor um you know Jason’s playmaking U was the thing that that might have swayed me a bit um the truth is like the idea of the numbers he put up in game five when you’re up 3-1 when you had a 20-point lead um you know fairly early in the game uh it was almost there’s a funny way of putting it it was almost annoying to me how he was piling on because he was making the I knew that he was making the choice look more controversial than I think it really was because those numbers do not have the same value that they would have had you know in in game two and game three when everything was in the ballots we knew where this series was going by the time he piled on at the end um Jaylen Brown guarding Luca was was a massive Factor um and the fact that he you know did a nice job on that end uh and then you know Jason I know shooting and scoring is only part of the game but the fact I forget where he landed on shooting percentage but you know being high 30s maybe I think he might have hit 40 um on shooting percentage he just didn’t shoot the ball well and uh and I thought you know just eyeball test watching those games Jaylen Brown was more consistent and more impactful so um I thought he was the guy so was there ever and look you make a great case all kidding basketball’s played on both sides of the ball and his defense was extraordinary but was there ever any point where you were like well um one guy led the team in points rebounds and assists so there’s your MVP no because percentages matter a lot I mean that they do like it’s inefficient what did he what did he land on shooting wise Dave do you have uh I think well I’m just going to guess up the top of my head 58% that’s probably wrong I think that is wrong I’ll look it up right now but I I think it wasn’t it high 30s I think it was something like that it probably got better as it went along it wasn’t good early on it was it won great let me get into his game log as we do this on the air here 38.8 o yeah I mean that’s that means you know that means he made four out of 10 that’s hall of fame in baseball right right right right all right okay well um yeah I mean I I just I forget where I was going to go yeah I I thought he was the guy I got you not a hard one but it is the the two I know what real quick the two-way thing I know you’re joking about it but it it drives me nuts like no I’m not I’m not I’m not joking about it no legitimately his defense I’m not joking about that but like it Wala like you know and again I know LeBron’s numbers were still monstrous in that series but if you go look at the at that fork in the road moment when he entered the starting lineup you know he He Turned LeBron into you know from Thanos to Spider-Man and that was enough um to turn the series and Steph was not guarding anybody and so defense matters a lot and ironically Jaylen if you read the story I wrote that night had some really interesting comments when they played Luca earlier in the season about the way we talk about defense and how we just ignore how some guys don’t guard right and it was certainly seemed like a shot at Luca so um and Jason guards so I need to say that part he running around during the the uh wole ball now he’s like a broadcaster it’s hilarious uh FP shared this story that really kind of got me and part of it’s probably because we know FP a little bit but Willie May it’s a it’s a picture on on fp’s Twitter and uh it’s him and Willie smiling and laughing it’s just a great great photo right Willie Mays asked if he could sit down at the table where I was having breakfast by myself in the clubhouse before a day game at Candlestick he asked the greatest player ever asked if he could sit with me then once seated he began to give me a clinic on how to play center field at the stick the ball really goes to Right Center you better get on your horse that way the wind will knock it down and left Center and so on all the while I’m thinking to myself I’m having breakfast with Willie Mays it was surreal the greatest player ever took time to help out a part-time platoon player but that’s the kind of guy Willie was later on while just starting my broadcast career with a nightly radio show Willie stopped me in the Giants Clubhouse and told me he listened to me every night saying in his high pitched voice you know what you’re talking about I called my parents that night and told them that Willie Mays listens to my radio show the confidence that he gave me is Indescribable and I will cherish the times we spent together and all he’s the although he’s the best that ever was I never saw him play but as for the wiie mays I knew the man he was still the best there ever was rip say hey number 24 J Wow Jason we played this earlier but I just wanted to one more time give a shout out to uh the great Dave Fleming who had the most an unenviable task you are a longtime Giants broadcaster and in the middle of a game not not it happened the night before and you have a chance to compose yourself you’re in the middle of calling the Giants and Cubs and you get the news I’m sure somebody probably passed him a note that Willie Mays had passed away and this clip we’re playing is actually edited down a little bit um there’s a longer version Where da his Cadence switches noticeably and then at one point he just says out loud you know and he repeats it in this clip you know I don’t know how I’m gonna say this and then he proceeds to call the game and I I think he just needed to really compose himself before he did and you you’ll hear it in his voice here now a ground ball to Third and Chapman throws out Swanson I’m having a hard time saying the [Music] words but we found out just a little while ago on the Giants have now made an announcement here’s a ground ball to Second Estrada throws out Pete Crow Armstrong the all-time greatest giant number 24 Willie May has passed away today at the age of 93 and right as we get ready to head to his hometown in honor great Willie Mays we have to say goodbye so we’ll step aside here for a moment and come back and the ball game will continue and obviously we’re going to talk a lot more about Willie tonight and over the next many many days I hate to be the one to have to pass that news along but Willie Mays today has died at the age of 93 we’ll be back on the KBR Northern California there’s there’s been a couple yeah I mean I just don’t think they’re in the the draft business right now so I would lean toward um you know lean towards them trying to get something done but okay oh wait he said but it’s always hard when you don’t know what those conversations have been um but I think you know this is we we’ve talked about it back when Mike Brown’s contract situation was in flux just how important of an offseason this was and and to finally you know go all into what you know whatever that means for them uh when the West is as good as it is when you know when when uh you got so much money out to sabonis and fox and Keegan Murray you know getting better along the way you know they they need another piece so I think they’re G to be very active this week okay that’s what Sam thinks I agree with them but you know this has also been said a few times and I I don’t know I I feel like Sam Sam I feel like Jason they’ve worked out a ton of people yeah you gota you got to work all angles right sure and I don’t think they’re going to make a just to make a deal um and for all we know they brought somebody in and we’re like oh my God yeah you know the the the the rough thing is that the challenge is that generally these trades are made prior to the draft the draft Yeah because and it’s so weird that okay let’s take vikor wean Yama out or or a player that’s going number one but if you if I’m telling you I’m trading you the 13th pick right that’s different than what’s our last mock draft I have here uh Ron Holland now you’ve already you’ve put a name to it but it just sounds different like the the f a first- round pick or 13th because now that team gets to choose who they want but part of that also may be you know is there a team that’s interested in what you currently have on your roster and what they potentially could get at 13 well and you nailed it because you don’t know like for example Monty and Friends Monty and West might be sitting there going okay these are the guys that are going to fall to us but we had Tyrese halberton fall to us in a draft he was supposed to go top three this draft is completely up in the air well what if Alex SAR or Zachary rasher orever the hell he say is it what what if one of these guys Falls what if um you know Castle or maybe they’re super high on a guy and now you got to figure out well do I want to trade this pick or do I want to gamble that I’d actually rather have that player than what I’m getting back in this trade but we talk about timelines and you know do you want to add even at the upper end another 22y old to this timeline it just feels like they’re in the business of if you read the tea leaves you know ownership unhappy with you know blah blah blah if you read the tea leaves it’s no they need something to help and I gotta tell you I though not high on the Zack LaVine deal in a vacuum I am over the moon if they can get LaVine and Caruso and not give up any of their big three you got you got to do that deal yeah I mean to me the I’m less concerned about the contract on that one which I get the concern but the concern of the contract also becomes if he truly stays as an injured player right that’s a huge problem but I mean I think LaVine has played to that contract at times yes but he’s got to be healthy and I think he would make this team a lot better but you know that that’s a huge risk that it also feels like that’s the move and is that move enough I mean that that’s that’s the hardest thing here I mean the pros of taking a player at 13 is contract control uh very favorable contract um those kind of things but you know is this draft as um kind of reported not filled with that much talent I I who knows you can always find it and maybe grow that Talent under your own wings but these are tough tough choices the Kings have to make H uh Caruso makes 9.8 million in one last year right one last year Zack LaVine is Ed 4346 and 49 yeah that 49 is a player option I can’t imagine Zack lavine’s opting out of $50 million in three years but just as an example what was the what were the numbers for um we just talking about was say seum Pascal seak is 186 yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah at five year so I mean yeah that’s the you know that would have been the neighborhood there and then we’d also be leaving with the same questions like is that the move is this enough and it might be might not be these These are tough things to to figure out well and the thing is is LaVine and Caruso kind of share some of the same space uh Caruso played a lot of small forward uh for the Bulls but he and Zack LaVine are both 65 65 is a rather it’s a smaller and small forward he be asked to guard a lot of tough guys but that’s his to me this checks a lot of box it checks really all the boxes for the most part of the biggest needs is they need a true blue on ball switchable Defender and Alex Cru is one of the best out there they need another scoring option something that can someone can take pressure off of both uh uh Fox and sabonis so you got to imagine if this is a deal that involves the pick herder Harrison Barnes something else in there that ain’t Keegan fox or sabonis now if you go all of a sudden go next year and you’re looking at a lineup I would imagine of dearen fox Zack LaVine Alex Caruso Keegan Murray damont a bonus by the way this is assuming Malik monk doesn’t sign now if Malik monk Signs Now of a sudden you got three dudes that are six5 that share a lot of the same space but you’re going to have a lot of fun with rotations sure yeah I mean we and we just got done watching a finals where I don’t even know under definition like holiday white brown Tatum who was the power forward I Tatum I guess but I mean he’s guarding guards at times or there were switch out and you’re like wow uh holidays guarding Gafford yeah that’s just what the way they played they were comfortable with that um so you know I’m not saying the kings are are that team but um you know there’s different ways to do this I wonder what some of the other you know there’s still the kosma rumor out there um I’m sure there’s some things that are being floated about that we haven’t even heard about what other things are they chasing because I think they have to I think they know that the team’s good it’s not great no and I think if you for example the Bulls deal if you’re able to pull that off now all of a sudden you have you don’t have a great starting five you’ve got a top six that what whoever starting but you’ve got Fox LaVine Caruso sabonis Keegan and and Malik monk that’s a hell of a top six I think the easy you might still have ly might I don’t know if he would get you know sure yeah and you’re you’re gonna have other guys that you know you’re still gonna have your Davon Mitchells your Keon Ellis you’re have a pretty heavy backourt by the way you’re gonna have a lot of guys six5 and under on this team um and then you look at the one that’s almost the the turn key you know nothing not not that people going to jump out of their shoes at but is you gotta think Harrison Barnes and that pick for Kyle kosma is just sitting there on the table right now and then you know like we talked about as you said there’s there’s other places they’re looking to go probably as well so yeah I mean again I I I don’t know if they’ve got a chart of like hey we go to down this path because I feel like if you do something with Chicago there’s less Freedom after that if you do the one with Washington if it’s you know out there still I think you still have some of the moves you can make H the ESPN mock draft has Ron Holland that’s a name that hasn’t been thrown around a lot but I can tell you a lot of local media and bloggers here uh with takes that respect they they they love this guy this is a guy that you know not relying too much offensively from him but is some say the best on ball defender in the draft if not certainly top two top three um so that’s an interesting look G League unite uh they also have uh the kings taking Harrison Ingram from North Carolina at 45 have we had enough of Harrison from North Carolina though Jason uh Lakers taking bronny at 55 yeah this the one that officially has him there that’s you know there was also that story that came out about Bron’s uh Camp just working out with the Lakers and the Suns and then that’s starting to circulate all sorts of what does that mean with LeBron go to Phoenix you know that kind of stuff kind of an interesting thing where rich Paul really got loose in that interview Rich Paul really got loose um and you know there’s reasoning behind it but I just I I don’t know if that’s the I mean I don’t look they know what they’re doing seemingly I don’t know if it’s the soundest bit of advice but that’s what the path it shows some highlights from Rich Paul’s interview um bronnie is the same as my previous clients my stuff is by Design I don’t care about him going to the Lakers or Phoenix or about what number he gets picked it’s about fit if his name was Charles Jacobson and he was my client I’d do the same thing identifying teams that have uh real interest and and the most interesting thing he might have said well and again smokes screen or not LeBron is off this idea of having to play with Brony if he does he does but if he doesn’t he doesn’t There’s No Deal made that is guaranteed if the Lakers draft Brony at 55 LeBron will resign if that was the case I would force them to take him at 17 that’s a hell of a quote from Rich Paul I would force them to take him at 17 we don’t need leverage the Lakers could draft Brony and LeBron doesn’t resign LeBron is also not going to Phoenix for a minimum deal we can squash that now Lakers and Phoenix that was it as far as work go there could be last minute stuff if someone calls me late we’ll see so number one he ain’t going to Phoenix on a minimum deal didn’t say he’s not going to Phoenix though right and number two not only is he working with Brony on draft position but he’s also working on LeBron James being a free AG so he’s kind of double dipping here and everything he’s saying is measured I just make at minimum $78 million correct and that is a lot of money it tells me I mean okay if I’m really putting out because I don’t know I have no idea if I had to bet I’d bet he’s leaving but I don’t know I don’t see any incentive for him to take the $78 million unless he doesn’t get other offers and I think somebody is going to offer him 90 100 100 you know somewhere in that range he certainly wouldn’t be talking about blowing up like a rocket mama look I made it I would imagine if he’s going to take a two-year with a one-year opt out from the Kings right so basically what it comes down to is can the king 78 million compete with these other teams now I saw today for example I think it was Philly is looking hard at kavus cwell Pope um and Orlando is looking at Klay Thompson you’re hoping that you know look I don’t want I want I I want Malik to make to get his bag I would just enjoy it if that bag was in Sacramento and perhaps a a a purse or one of those little little you know coin purs not a not a big garbage bag you know for time being but I want him to do well I just I’m selfishly want him here I I absolutely but it is interesting and that and by the way that’s got it I can’t imagine with the fact that no matter what whether Malik stays or goes that he has nothing but love for the fans and for the franchise I I think we can say that’s a fact yes okay so if that’s the case then you and your agent at some point because there’s no nego there’s no negotiating with Sacramento it’s it’s not like they’re trying to get Sacramento to go up on price they they know Sacramento will go I’m sure the first thing Monty and West said was here’s the numbers it’s the most we can give you just so you know there’s no negotiation like we will give you the maximum amount we your max for us it is your max for us so you know what we’re offering so there’s no real leverage play here right that being said Monty and Wes have to know what he’s gonna do they have to there there’s no I can’t imagine a world where they just keep the kings in the dark because that’s gonna affect their draft Yeah and and their trades well this is again you said you’re kind of if you are guessing leaning that he would leave yes my G again guess would be that he would stay not for any other reason but what you just said I I want to believe that Monty and Wes and Malik’s group were aware of who would have cap space kind of where we would be now a few months ago at the trade deadline sure because I think if he does leave for Orlando San Antonio Detroit Philly whatever pick a team I think they missed I agree with you because and and to defend them though at the trade deadline I mean this is a team that was just three seed uh was still scrapping and fighting like what were the offers for I don’t know but you’re also trying to like hey we can make Malik wasn’t hurt yet right and so you’re thinking hey if everything kind of falls into place we could still make a run here even if we end up losing Malik so that’s the tough part but I gotta believe they were there there was some sort of Intel there yeah that maybe LED them to believe like no we got a good chance of keeping them I think what worries me is that you’re right in the sense of not I hope you’re right yeah but that you’re right about the Intel and then they they looked and they realized that a lot of things can change MH we also want a Deep Run in the playoffs remember this is the All-Star break sure and you know what we have an offer right now which is uh you know XYZ rotational player in a 2026 top 15 protector if we make this trade right now we’re kind of we’re getting crushed for that we’re getting crushed and we’re kind of punting on the season yeah so we don’t want to get crushed right and we we don’t want to punt on the season therefore and yet now he’s leaving and that’s you know yeah and then Malik side of things I’m thinking okay look it’s a player that’s already been on three teams maybe he is comfortable moving again maybe he’s also like I don’t want to move again I I don’t know I mean they know but it’s also his first chance look Charlotte drafted him uh the king signed him right but like this is this is a chance to really really get paid and kind of pick you know if he has multiple suitors too that would be I mean he’s in a really good position again if the if the floor is four and 78 on a team that he seemingly likes in a pretty good setup like if that’s his safety net and it’s like I’m weighing that or going to a brand new team that maybe not as good but is offering me just a ton of money that that’s pretty good spot to be in I want to before we go to break I want to bring up something that I don’t think really gets talked about enough um and that’s this like look I’m saying this with all the love and respect in the world are we sure he’s a 20 million doll guy Malik yeah in in today’s NBA I would say yes 15.4 points on 44% from the field 35% from Beyond the art he is an 83% free throw shooter which on this team is huge he gives you three boards and and five assists on 26 minutes I mean I’m not killing the numbers here he was their third best player last year I I agree with you won I agree with you there too I just I when you look at the history um it’s timing he’s up at the right time he’s GNA get should he’s gonna get paid there’s other people that got worse contracts than him I think so I agree and by the way I do think he is I I’m I’m with you I think he’s a 20 to 25 million do guy like if somebody I really think he’s gonna it’s going to be if he leaves the Kings it’s going to be around four years 100 million that that’s what I would put a bet on but I also wonder if he’s on that that Fringe where he maybe gets if the wrong player goes to the right team or our perspective the right player goes to the right team if he gets squeezed if kavus scw up goes to Philly and that’s their thing there and Klay Thompson goes to Orlando and that’s that thing there that thing there and maybe they see him as like well you’re a six man but are we going to pay $100 million for a six man I don’t know I just I wouldn’t discount the fact that there maybe there’s a chance especially with the apron situation in the cap rules that maybe he isn’t Blown Away by a deal and maybe that’s where he says to Monty and West guys I don’t know like I tell you right now if I
