Golf is a heck of a game. 51-year-old Stewart Cink and 15-year old Miles Russell met in Detroit. They’re both playing in the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
I wasn’t going to point it out but I mean the beauty of golf is that here you are at this point in your career storied career all the wins that you have and there’s a teenager and you guys just had a photo off how special is this game of golf yeah I mean it does speak a lot to the game itself and the longevity you can you can derive from it um miles Russell is 11 no 12 years younger than my youngest son oh my gosh and I’m uh 36 years older than him and we’re in the same field competing at out you know the the clubs and balls don’t know that how old you are and it’s just a we both love the game we’re just in different pors of our life and it’s uh it’s pretty awesome game Detroit is a great sports city rich with so many different stories and you guys get to be a part of it this year what drove you to want to compete in this tournament back in our city well I’ve been playing here since the first rocket mortgage classic and the golf course is a fun course to play it’s uh you know the summertime has always just been kind of one of my favorite times of the year to play gets a little hot and humid and doesn’t feel always very good but it’s just a good time to play and Detroit’s good Sport City and and so I just um I Can’t Get Enough competing and this week we’re competing right here 2009 man I know the memories for you I’m sure are still very close at some point that you look back I don’t know how often you do but for golf fans here they see you they think 2009 how many people are asking you to sign a flag and you go oh I remember that flag I remember that moment of picture from 09 yeah it’s pretty often that happens you know um more often than not people are just saying like why’d you have to beat Tom Watson my favorite golfer okay I’ll scratch that question no it’s uh it’s it’s good that um people remember that I mean to me it feels like it was yesterday I know it’s a lot longer ago than yesterday but it’s a pretty fresh memory in the people’s minds too which always uh I’m honored to when I hear that seeing how low you have to go on a course like this Donald Ross course is notorious for how tough the greens are but they’re not super elevated if you can hit the ball straight this week and hit a few PS how confident are you that you can find yourself in contention on Sunday yeah it’s um I think it’s a course that uh it doesn’t really reward one specific type of player it just rewards the player that’s really on their game that week and you can be long or short hitter whatever but you need to be in play cuz this course is very uh doable from the Fairway but when you get outside the Fairway in the rough it’s uh quite a challenge and so the the winner this week will be in control their ball off the te and um the greens are challenging too but if you can you can set yourself up into the greens from the fair way
