Sunday Sunday Sunday it’s race day the nhr is at Virginia Motorsports Park one of the smoothest they say so no bumps no whoop section this weekend thank goodness but got to deal with the heat 133 track temp when they went out on first round let’s go through the highlights if you hadn’t seen yesterday’s recap I got mine out F has his out his will be all detailed about what they did mine’s covering all of them go check it out and get caught up today we will go through the highlights first and second round semis will show all of them and let’s see who’s going to do what right now uh round one Top Fuel the highlights couple highlights that I it kind of stood out nothing really exciting happened um I’ll show you what Clay did with Tony Stewart and then the two girls Britney forest and Jazz and Selena they had to run each other which I hate to see that too but it was like the Marquee match up and I’ll show you that and then we’ll move on FL the car J in the right side the number three qualifier His Highest starting spot ever wow what was [Music] that wo 387 at 319 mph one of those cars with really high idling down there on the starting line it sounded very strange but Tony Stewart 3.87 4 319 clay Milan goes 410 at 254 miles hour uh yeah no it sound like clay was having a little bit of problem with the injector Maybe sticking or something but uh I seen jimo working on it a little bit before we staged the cars so rapper mobile I got to tell you the bright red car certainly suits her personality a little bit more than the matte black car that her dad drove that she’s been driving all year long this one’s going to go Britney’s way 392 look at the speed 321 mph David grubnic and the team down there in the Hendrick shirts they needed to get healthy weekend well d that’s not what we wanted against Tony Stewart something’s going on the motor was reved up Clay said on the radio it was not him that was revving it up so that I don’t know that clay will have all that detail on his video but when when I saw 26 on the tree I knew it was he was it was probably pulling him through and he said it was all he could do to hold it in the bean so that ain’t what we wanted but it happens racing moving on okay y’ I film as I go U Chad green number two qualifier throttle hung on burnout he was too far down the track for him to be able to just get out of the car and leave the car on the track because it because of safety safety he was running Mike Smith low lowbudget team they had to turn their shut their car off so that they could get Chad Green’s car off the track once they did that then Mike SMI just cranked it back up and took the tree he didn’t make a full run so that was kind of crazy but then John Force has an explosion against Terry hadock it to it was after the finish line line has a huge explosion he does stay off the wall in his Lane but he comes across and slams into the wall and you’ve probably seen it by now because I’m sure it’s all over the Internet um it was it was a bad hit and I hope he’s I know he’s okay because they said he was conscious and alert but I really hope he’s okay because that was a hard hit at whatever age you are so thoughts and prayers to him and and that family cuz Austin procas really shook up he was down there and they talked to him and Britney was down there too so I know that they’re you know they’re shook up and then but they got to get back in these race cars and make ra races that’s what they do that’s what a racer does so with that being said I am going to show it cuz I know he’s okay and here it is up to oh c blue John Force just blew the thing up and slammed into the wall at the top end of the racetrack when they tell the drivers to get back in the cars that is usually your 5 minute Mark and when they pass that word on I will pass on to you that it’s time to come back up on the sonoka vision you can see the 16 time champ getting out of the car safety Safari down there helping him giving a little assist down there but he’s conscious he’s alert he’s talking to the safety personnel and he is going to be evaluated further you’re going to watch Terry hadock first Puff the tire he’s going to Pedal it John’s car starts moving around cylinder out there but it’s Sunday right you can’t give up you can’t give up and C Bluey Banks it off of the right wall and then the real big hit in my eye looked like when he came back across that is a big Time Explosion for a guy that’s had a lot of Big Time explosions wow he didn’t even get that wall I thought he went over and banked off one and came back for the other but look at this thing traveling across the racetrack fortunately for Terry hadock he was slowed down to the point that he was out of the way and man that is a big time hit into the concrete down there said John Forest has been through some very very wild rides in his career and I’m going to put that one in the top three or four for a guy to go through that no matter what his age or what kind of shape he’s in to be conscious alert talk of the safety personnel is incredible I think it is a great Testament to the people that build the race cars in this case they build a man house at John Forest racing the safety equipment manufacturers the rules makers that make it way way way more often than not no matter how scary it looks the driver’s able to get out of the car and come back to fight another day I’ve said more than once over the course of the years the most important job any race vehicle has got nothing to do with setting records got nothing to do with going fast got nothing to do with winning races winning championships any of that the most important job any race vehicle has is protect your driver when things go wrong proot car there really wasn’t nothing to highlight um both butner’s back over there he’s in the one of the Quadra cars they’re out for business they’re just out this weekend so he got in there he did turn on the Wind light against Jerry Don Tucker which is another elite car um Erica moved on Greg moved on then proy motorcycle was the The Smiths had to run each other Matt and Angie Smith I don’t know if you’ve seen how they uh run each other when they do but here’s how they ran today give each other a little nod down on the starting line blow a kiss from one to the other and how about Angie with an 06 reaction time she throws at her husband how about Angie beat him on a hole shot 06 and a 6.89 Matt Smith just ran low ET of race day and he is headed home well he’s not headed home he’s headed back to the trailer to get his wife’s bike ready for the next round 06 6.8 09 and and Smith takes care of business so good for Angie Smith I don’t know if you remember in the past they ran each other and she beat him on a whole shot and he was mad and acted a total ass to her on TV and I’ve never forgot that so good for her for getting up on the wheel sometimes you just do that when you have you know you have a better opponent over there it just brings it out in you good for her and she’s moving on and also Gage Herrera he’s moving on you know he’s in the street to beat Bob GL um record so he’s moving on too PR mods I’m going to show them a little extra love cuz yesterday I got wrapped all up in the mission food and forgot to put the ladder for them so I’m going to show the ladder right quick and then I’m going show some highlights from first round we about to witness it lar at left side us Nationals winner going up against Tricky Ricky Legend of all legends Hall of Famer he was in inducted into the international drag racing Hall of Fame the garlets Hall of Fame earlier this year Lyle goes in waiting on Ricky Ricky going to go in last the Amber’s going to flash off the starting line first 300s of a second it’s Lyall Barnett but does Ricky have the power to drive around and he does 580 at 25257 Ricky Smith trailers Lyall Barnett 5870 247 for Lyall Lyall with an 023 light 9 90 to the 60 foot Tricky Ricky was 51 on the tree 1 second to a 60 foot but this is the final race of the regular season guys this is points and a half to reset the field kabushi first to fully stage Chris norn follows to Chris norn trying to make up some real estate it’s Jose Gonzalez the points leader is not on the property what a race check it out oh my gosh 5871 beats 5870 one thou slower on the racetrack but two thou quicker in Reaction Time 65 to a 67 so even math Wizards like me can figure out margin of Victory 0 0 one okay second round highlights from Top Fuel here’s a couple horren Left langon [Music] Right 397 beats 397 and that is an absolute picture perfect little baby hole shot Shawn langon goes 3976 307 look at the speed Steve Torrance goes 3.97 319 mph Tony Stewart Team Chevrolet on the left side Brittney Force winner gets Doug Keta another great drag race hey Virginia you get to see Tony Stewart racing the semifinals for the first time they left as one within a thou 60 ft Britney’s in front 330 fet Tony’s in front look down to the stripe 3.97 Tony Stewart wins it he’ll race in the final four for the first time there’s the competitiveness of being a driver and there is the emotion of being a daughter how do you separate the two in these moments you know uh it’s something that’s tough to go out there and see what happened uh it’s it’s never easy but we know that’s a part of the drill that’s how this sport goes my dad’s going to be okay I was in the ambulance with him holding his hand and uh he’s one of the toughest people I know so he’ll bounce back like he always does and I wouldn’t be his daughter I wouldn’t be his daughter if I wasn’t back up here in that car trying to win this thing with this team for him and there you have the update directly from the family good to hear Britney talking about her daddy now in funny car he did get the win because it didn’t happen till after the finish line of the crash so that gave Al Blake Alexander the competition byy for against him um I really didn’t have no highlights for that and then Pro car I really only had one that was Greg and Erica Greg’s ready Erica go Advantage Erica with the clutch Advantage Greg with the horsepower 6623 207 wins it by 7,000 of a second Erica Anders got off the starting Mark first by a solid couple of hundreds but her 665 at 208 was not enough Greg’s car through the middle of the racetrack made up the difference and even though she was running a mile hour faster the margin at the stripe there it is that’s about 7,000 of a second and the Hendrick cars machine out in front Pro stop motorcycle I really only got one highlight and here it is but she’s got Hector R Jr on the other side of the racetrack that get trcks vwin his dad builds Motors maintains the machines red light for Angie oh no [Music] oh 689 for the win 196 mil an air Angie go 683 so right after Pro Stock Motorcycle you know I told you I feel them as they go it started raining all right nhr got the track dry promods got up um for their second round and here’s some highlights Championship I’m not sure I W have to deal with Jason every week reaction times identical scrubs 574 beats a 576 5.74 eight 249 Jason Scruggs 576 Ken cucho after identical 020 three reaction times of his young son about a week ago hoping to get one of his all in Obby performance cars wow both drivers just Dove right into Stage whoa hang on Gray’s car got up on the tire started dancing around kicked the tail out from under him and Tricky Ricky goes 574 253 miles an hour semi Pro Stock Motorcycle is going to be rich Richard Gaston versus Hector Arana Jr and Gage terrera versus John Hall Hector on the get trk scooter Richard Gadson on the RevZilla bike got a 14,000 RPM Suzuki on one side got 160 cubic in no Hector dropped it Hammer too soon he goes red and with an 012 light and a 681 Richard gats is going to the final round motorcycle from the time he set the track record in qualifying session number [Music] one couple of hundreds Advantage John Hall Gage Herrera Drives By 6.76 199 milph John Hall goes 681 at 198 so it’ll be Gage it’ll be Richard it’ll be an all Vance and Hines final kind semi pro stock card Dallas Glenn versus Bo Butner and Greg Anderson versus Aaron Stanfield so Bo Butner who’s run Pro Stock twice this year with Mountain Motors won both of those did not get out of round number one here this weekend but he still got a chance to go three for three in proo he’s got to be Dallas Glenn [Music] first 663 Dallas 206 the speed bow moved first by 8,000 of a second they were identical to 60 ft by 330 ft Dallas had the nose out in front and he kept that rad torque machine out in front all the way to the Finish Line has gotten off to a start Erica seemed to have the hot hand at the end of the year Aaron Stanfield just thre a double 03 reaction time at Greg Anderson and wins it on a ho shot 6. 627 beats 6.6 27 the difference at the start was the difference at the Finish after identical elapse time funny car semis Blake Alexander versus Bob tasa Austin proc versus Matt car time Bob task in the left side Blake Alexander in the right side the two crew chiefs one of which is an owner been having a little fun with each other for the last couple of weeks who’s going to get the last laugh here great drag race 398 beats 399 Bob taskus headed to the final hey check out the speed 330 M hour Hagen for DOD for direct connection for Rai for Tony Stewart proc for Cornwell tools for Chevrolet [Music] he will race the Chevy 3.96 2 316 mph Hagen goes 403 at 312 milph and Austin proc and Bob tasa in the Final Round Top Fuel semi Shawn langon versus anron brown and Doug Keta versus Tony Stewart [Music] look at this 381 beats 382 326 mph for Shawn 323 mph for Antron Brown Tony Stewart looked like he had a really really good car when the track was about 50° hotter let’s find out if he’s got anything for Doug here in the semi-final sha langon awaits Tony puffed the tire 382 326 milph and Doug Keta will race his teammate it’ll be it’ll be an all Ypsilanti final round Tony goes 463 at 180 mph he got to jump off the starting line quicker to 60 ft by the time they’ got to the 330 foot block Tony had to Pedal it once and Doug was gone PR my semiz is going to be Kevin renar versus Chris Thorne and Tricky Ricky Smith versus Jason scrs for a trip to the trophy round will we have a nitrous car in the final round or will it be all Force feeding all the time Scruggs is off the gas Ricky’s car looked like it was trying to push him over to the wall but he fought it back 574 01 Reaction Time come on man 01 at your age and a 574 Ricky Smith is headed for the final Jason Goes 814 at 115 mph he certainly wasn’t late on the tree at 036 but his car got loose out there a couple hundred feet out he had to [Music] lift screw Char Jamie new and hem under the hood of the silver and black car Pro charge rocket for Chris Thorn who gets the face off with Tricky Ricky [Applause] man promod at Virginia that’s what it should look like 572 to a 575 Chris Thorne wins it by 9,000 of a second ryven bark was better on the tree at 044 and down the racetrack ryven bark was out in front at the Eighth Mile but Thorne big speed down the back for that procharge machine machine 572 at 252 and he’s able to stick the nose out in front by 9,000 of a second okay here we go promod finals Chris Thorne versus Tricky Ricky Smith the final two cars of the return of NH to Virginia their full in their stage they’re off Ricky Smith has got six hundreds in the bank watch the top of the scoreboard 5702 Ricky Smith Goes 5702 253 for the win Chris Thorne goes 5714 252 for the loss Ricky was 08 on reaction time and ran low E to close it out well they call him Tricky Ricky but when you go 08 on the tree and run low 18 of the event you don’t have to be tricky Pro motorcycle gay terrer versus his teammate Richard Gatson is going to get your guy I think Terry Vance is on his house in the stratosphere someplace just watching and smiling they’re [Music] ready identical reaction times at 022 and at the Finish Line Gage Herrera goes 675 199 Richard Gadson goes 678 198 they were identical reaction times look at the numbers when they come up on the jumbo Dr 60 ft Gadson 330 Gadson 8th mile Herrera and he was a couple of miles an hour faster we take another look courtesy of the big go coming up on the 70th Anniversary 300s of a second 6755 1999 the streak continues Pro Stock car final Dallas Glenn versus Aaron Stanfield kbm versus [Music] Elite both known for the starting line both with good horsepower no games at all they both blink them right in Dallas Glenn 06 to leave second Finish Line 661 beats 661 and Aaron Stanfield reversed the outcome from Chicago and there would It Up Down On The Starting Line Stanfield double 07 on the tree Dallas Glen was 06 and again when you look at the numbers as they roll up look at the way it played out going on a racetrack funny car final Bob tasa versus Austin prop pre-stage in Bob tasa Dives right in Austin proc right there here we go tasa smokes the tires and Austin proc takes it home 392 that’s now low ET of the entire entire event they did it in the final round and look at the Cornwell guys down on the starting line that’s a celebration not just for their driver not just for their team but for their owner John Force as we watch again from the far end of the racetrack the nhre replay taskus car right there pulled him loose kicked the tail sideways and he is watching Austin proc pick up his third of the Year rookie not a chance where will that Wall-E go he’s going straight to the hospital to John Force uh well [ __ ] I hope he’s out actually but uh well I’ll find out but this is definitely dedicated to John Force Top 1. Dear Ms. Millican-Hubbard, you know how to (as my legendary radio program director John Rook would say) "play the hits".

  2. This channel along with Clay's, I really enjoy to the point that I let the adverts run.
JF, had no chance in that wreck, he was along for the ride.
Pass on our best wishes to the family and the team. All the way from sunny Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

  3. pro stockers have gotten smart by routing the exhaust out the side instead of underneath the vehicle. with the exhaust underneath, the thunderous sound of the engine was making enough sound waves to cause tire shake. i was the one who figured that out when i saw a slo mo underneath video of grumpy jenkins car when it tire shook off the start. if grumpy knew this, think he might change his exhaust? absolutely. he did after i discovered it.

  4. They say things come around in circles and this crash was a textbook example of what John went through in his early years of racing, hopefully he won’t be making a habit of it 😂😂😂!!!! I’m sure there are some fans who like to see it but at this point I’m hoping it doesn’t happen any time soon in the future!!!

  5. Another good recap Leigh. Looking forward to Your coverage at Norwalk.
Thanks for sharing Your time and efforts. Best Wishes to everyone.

  6. Can you make a west coast boilers decal and sneak it on Clays car wing strut??Heck he probably make it himself and slap it on

  7. Before you showed the John Force clip you said, "I am going to show it because I know he's O.K." I'm 76 yrs. old. When I was born, my family ran weekly dirt track races in Houston & Oklahoma City. Our family physician in each city was our track doctor. I was born on a rain out. I remember my Dad checking the sports section of all of the local newspapers on Mon. mornings to see who crashed (1950's). I also remember him punching out a photographer for taking a photo of Jerry Hoyt (1955 Indy 500 Pole Winner) after they turned his sprint car onto its wheels after his fatal crash at the Oklahoma Fairgrounds. What I'm getting at is there is a fine line between what should & shouldn't be shown regarding horrendous wrecks. You can protect the driver's privacy while allowing racers to dissect the accident. I believe that several people who have watched John Force's wreck footage are already developing ideas to make funny cars safer. That's how auto racing safety has evolved from pre-WWII to today. I also remember meeting my Dad at his office where he told me about a young funny car driver that he felt would become a winner. My Dad supplied him with all of the Cragar products he needed to qualify for the contingency money awarded by Cragar & John Force didn't let him down. My Dad passed away shortly after his dealing with John & I've been a fan of JFR to this day.

  8. At 5:41 look at how the wall tapers inward and how hitting it a little earlier could have been much worse. If walls are to taper at all, it should be outward. How much would safer barriers cost seeing that it's only a quarter mile? Losing John would be akin to losing Dale, a real legend and standard bearer of the sport. I hope is injuries are minor.

  9. Awesome video Leigh as always. I definitely like including ProMod. I bet Lyle is going get some ribbing tomorrow night on the Shake-n-Bake show about loosing to Father Time. 😅😂🤣
When I first saw John hit the wall, I have to admit I said a couple thoughts “special racing words” and then a couple prayers for John because dang if he didn’t hit that wall a ton. I was definitely relieved when I saw Jon moving around. Hope you are having awesome day and better tomorrow

  10. Hello Leigh
Thank you for doing this show.
Besides being so cute, you make watching the race faster & and more enjoyable. Just the facts & no wasted air time. I think you should do a vote on what treatment should be given to the motorcycle boy that was rude & mean to his wife or any others. #1 – to say on air , I'm sorry to her, & change his ways. #2 – bared from track forever.
#3- Every female goes to his pit to discuss it. Moments before, he's called to race.
    #4 – ????

  11. Leigh we really appreciate the coverage. You're the BEST! There sure were a lot of incredible reaction times this weekend. Catch you next week!

  12. we cant count on espn for results but we can count on you leigh great job. for clay we will figure it out. j force is a tough guy and will come thru 🙏

  13. Idk if anyone has told you today but Mrs. Leigh you are pretty dang cool! Thank you for all the highlights and up close personal inside a NHRA TF Team hopefully will get a chance too meet you in person down here in Gainesville in 2025!

  14. What a day at the races! Thank you for your wonderful report. So glad Austin pulled it off for the team.
    Thoughts and prayers to John.
That was a soggy one. Brittany's comment and yours were spot on.
    Blessings all.
    🙏

  15. Very good update , and many thanks for that. So sorry to hear of John Force, we send him our thoughts and prayers.

  16. Hi Leigh
Mark from down under here. These race reports are awesome. Love the extended highlights and the footage you’re showing. You’re showing everything we want to see with out all the extra crap. Plus the behind the scenes info you have is great too. It’s particularly good for us fans overseas where it’s hard to get really good info and footage of the races in a tight package like you’re doing. Keep it up – it’s great watching. Thanks!

  17. Great Job once again Leigh. Again glad that mirror issue is gone. Prayers to JF. Look forward to the next one. Take Care 🙂

  18. This is it for John. He's done. Not sure if he's going to try and get healthy fast and go to Ohio or Seattle, but this is his last season. Already announced Height is getting the car keys to replace him. But really curious if Force is that stubborn to try and race in Ohio, or wait till Seattle in July. Probably really sore and on edge after Sunday. Sitting in a hospital bed gives you lots of time to think. Not sure of what injuries he may have suffered, but you can bet that this may be the last time John Force gets behind the wheel of a Nitro car. At his age, he's already seen it all and lived to talk about it.
