Dan Hurley the two-time NCAA Championship coach going for three straight at Yukon this upcoming season has turned down the Lakers offer Rob to be their head coach reportedly a six-year 70 million offer he turned it down would have made him like a top six coach uh highest paid coach in the NBA maybe the fifth highest paid uh in the league and um Rob what are your thoughts on Hurley turning down the Lakers Chris brousard Dan Hurley is muga Dan Hurley is crazy Dan Hurley will regret this going forward what are you thinking hello is this on really Dan Hurley the guy nobody knows they know your brother Bobby Hurley better than you I know you one to National Championship backto back you want a three repat in this college basketball downtrodden uh college basketball bgrade college basketball this is what you want you want you didn’t want to be the whole enchilada in Los Angeles you rather stay in stores Connecticut the armpit of Connecticut and instead you want to be small potatoes with no ketchup that’s what you want wow come on man here’s a golden opportunity stand up and be bigger don’t worry about what other people did this was your chance How about if he got LeBron another championship how if he took ad and the Lakers forward like nobody else had show us what you got as a coach you took the easy way out let me stay here where nobody knows me nobody knows Dan Dan Harley Hurley Hurley Dan there you go that’s what I’m saying you don’t nobody except for people in college basketball I just got Tongue Tied nobody in college basketball except uh the the real people who are into it please you know when everybody found out who he was when his name became attached to uh the Lakers and what could be and the chance and my home point is there Comes A Time when you want to try something different step out of your comfort zone make a real name for yourself there’s only been one coach in the history you want to talk about uh trying to do something different which is winning a championship in the NBA and in college only one guy’s done it Larry Brown if this was Charlotte if this was some other downtrod in organization Chris I get that I’m not going to Charlotte to go beat get beat up for three years and then run out of town okay I’m not doing that this is the Los Angeles Lakers this is the Yankees this is the Cowboys you don’t pass up opportunities to work for franchises like that with the history and the lore that goes with it this is a mistake this is a mistake and Dan Hurley will regret this going forward when he doesn’t win his third national championship and college basketball with the nil and the way things change will will will will continue to drop down you’re staying at college basketball where they couldn’t even beat the women in the NCAA tv raitings nobody even watches college basketball quit during the year nobody they watched the tournament very nice nobody watches college basketball you’re passing up the NBA and the B in Los Angeles with all of the big time movers and shakers and all the stuff that goes on I don’t understand how that could happen wow well look there is an argument that you just made uh and there are other reasons to agree with what you said right you get a chance to coach LeBron James arguably the best player to ever play the game and yeah it would have been challenging obviously LeBron you know when you coach him there are all types of expectations but also he’s still a great player he’s still a top 1510 player in the league and of course you got Anthony Davis and some other young players around you and Rob as you said when you his next offer because he said he wants to coach in the NBA his next offer might be from Charlotte yep or some other struggling team Washington or you know some us to get Chris you know that right now he look it’s possible he could get offered a better job but there’s a chance that it’ll be one of those weak jobs because they’re in a bad shape and need somebody to come in he said uh about a week ago on the Mike francesa’s podcast Rob this might give you miss Mike Francesa podcast right well here’s what he said I do Aspire One day this is Dan early if the right NBA situation were to come along to really test myself where an organization wants a tone Setter to come in and instill a culture here’s the key with young players and an organization that wants to pursue championships so it sounds like Rob he you know and we’ve talked about this was kind of a two-prong job offer one coach LeBron and ad for the next few years and then once they’re gone it’s like okay now build a program that’s challenging but that seemed to be what it was like and that seems to be what you know he’s attracted to like let me build a young program and and set in my image and then get this thing going um I I think look he did what he wanted to do I I remember Rob I told you when the offer came out the news that it it broke that it came out out or not the offer but that they were talking to him I said there was a theory going around of some of the people I talked in the league it was pure speculation I was told but they thought maybe this was hurly or they thought more than maybe that they they didn’t see him in LA and they felt like this was to get Yukon to pay him more money and their the second part for them was JJ reick may be asking for too much and they want to let him know look you’re not even our first choice so you come here for less money um that’s a whole another store issue but it Rob it just seems like he he didn’t want to go to La his wife from the East coach remember Kentucky offered him 11 million and so that’s about what the Lakers offered him six years 70 million I think the Lakers should have offered him more I said last week Rob should have been between 14 and 15 million a year enough of a cont contract seven years 100 million something like that where he knows he’s got the security to run the team and the program the way he wants to he’s not going to be at any players’s whim uh he will have the security they’ll have to back him because he’s got so many years and so much money so we were the reports Rob were that it was a long-term oh lucrative offer like like the Lakers were preparing the granddaddy of all offers and yet they didn’t even offer him as much as Monty Williams got from Detroit right well that that was a ridiculous cont yeah so I I think they should have offered him more money not more than Steve Kerr who’s making 17 and a half money not more than Greg papovich who’s making 16 but 14 15 million in that range he is a two-time champion at the NCAA level and I thought that would have got it done the fact that they I’m baffled that they thought that this offer would get him um and so obviously they didn’t their their theories also my partner Nick right on first things first things they really didn’t want him they just want the name out there and look make you know make it look like they were going for the big fish or whatever but I don’t know Rob it’s interesting I don’t how you they offered him $70 million to say that they didn’t want them $70 million for a guy that most people don’t know well I don’t know why you keep saying most people don’t know people know I’m talking about the general the general public doesn’t really know but that ain’t everybody’s goal I me the dude is is known in basketball so this one of the top basketball families in the country yeah I I’m just saying I I don’t I don’t think that that’s the case I just don’t I I think he doesn’t want the he doesn’t want the smoke he doesn’t want the the real opportunity to do something you could go back to Connecticut that’s comfortable that’s all and it might work out with nil it might not work out he may never again but he might be Happ he’s got a top top program recruiting class coming back in I mean I get it college basketball isn’t quite what it used to be but he’s still I mean he’s the king of college basketball right now and he’ll get other offers they like you said it it might not be as good as the Lakers but I also think they should have offered more money

  1. They say he will regret it but i bet you Dan Hurley will get the last laugh , cause when that team remains trash these same 2 will be putting the blame on him he aint dumb

  2. No one wants to coach Lebum he made the right decision. he dIdn't want to be the lakers next scapecoat for Lebum.

  3. Is Rob ok? This is ridiculous even for him! So way off Im convinced he did it for clicks. Just to have something to talk about!

  4. He got a cheap offer so the money in CA vs CT 'offsets'.
The Laker cheap ass franchise should have offered 6 years $85mm…Hurley wouldn't turn that down.

  5. Rob parker is tweaking nobody sane wants to coach two divas like LeBron james and Anthony Davis and this would their 3rd coach in four years. No thank you also they are not a title contender

  6. If he got the Lakers offer already, there will be more offers later without getting kneecapped by the Coach Killer's noncompliance and passive aggressive BS

  7. We have to re me acknowledge that Dan Hurley wants to coach young players and install a culture.
As long as LeBron James is in LA, Dan will stay put.
We know throughout LeBron's career, that he is surrounded by shooters. Even in Miami after the first year of the Big Three, both Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh had to adjust their games for LeBron. And we have seen that LeBron will grab the clipboard to draw up a play regardless who the HC was.
Dan will wait for a later time. Perhaps it could be Brooklyn who has young talent, that needs a culture, and is closer to home.

  8. Let me see. I can stay where I am the coach of the best team in the NCAA and try to win my third straight championship.
Or i can move to the other side of the country pay twice as much tax and be abused by the low IQ Lebron fans who will blame me because the Lakers will continue to suck, where I will probably be fired in less than 3 years.

    What a hard choice.

  9. NOPE, and increases his value in the future and there will be more money now and then for him. The Lakers want to put coaches in place to fail on their terms. Not you build your own roster that will win.

Who cares if they have Labron or AD, that's not the agenda. He wants to win on his terms, with his own roster and way more money.

  10. Why is it such a mistake to not want to leave his spot at the top of men's college basketball in the best program overall since '99 to risk getting fired after 1-2 seasons? He clearly made the right decision.

  11. How the hell is it the wrong decision? Dude shut up like for real, Dan is running UConn the way he want and he’s making money doing that, don’t be mad if because he doesn’t want to be Lebron’s Puppet

  12. You guys are pathetic. Who in the hell would want to coach the Lakers??? Coach has no say. You guys know better..both are an embarrassment. Lakers are nothing but drama. 7 coaches in 13 years!!!!! Oh yeah a great job opportunity 🤣🤣🤣. Come on fellas tell the truth!!

  13. The job is too big for Hurley right now. Stayed in college where he is in control and comfortable. Some coaches are made for the NBA and some are made for college. He is just another Calipari.

  14. Sorry Rob I definitly disagree with your take. Jeanie Buss and her friends have proven many times that they will not support their coach when Lebron & AD under perform. All money is not good and he would be a fool to trust the Lakers ownership or players who repeatly throw their coaches under the bus.

  15. Chris wake up please you are on the air. Lebron has never been close to being the greatest player ever. How much are they paying you to lie like this against your own opinion.

  16. Why is it always Rob Parker who’s opinions seem so lazy and not well thought out. NBA insiders keep on saying around the league the Lakers head coaching vacancy isn’t viewed as a good job. Hurley could win a third national championship in a row and raise his NBA head coaching candidacy profile even more.

  17. Rob hates UConn so much it's weird. He can't understand how a man would choose to stay because of his family?? It proves he's not a good person a horrible father and husband. No wonder ESPN canned him

  18. Why would he come into the NBA to be a head coach and the team that you won’t be coaching, especially with Lebron on the team. He’s not gonna be coach. Smart move Hurley.

  19. Lakers job is the biggest joke job in NBA. Coaches would rather take Cavs………job over Lakers!!!!

  20. The Lakers job scares people. It's not that it's lowly regarded. It scares people. You have to be built for a job like that
