Kim delivering at Travelers; Thoughts on PGA Tour signature events | Golf Central | Golf Channel
https://www.youtube.com/golfchannel?sub_confirmation=1

golf Central on YouTube is brought to you by the new Chrome tour golf ball from Callaway this a no cut field uh this is the last of the E signature event just curious brandle what do you think of the signature series look on the whole I’ve enjoyed it you know it brings the best players in the world uh you know I think it it helps us get off the sort of the rise and fall of just major championships and the players you get all of these spikes and I I think it’s been good for the game in general though I think the fields need to be bigger uh 120 players uh I think would be fine that allow the sponsors to fill out their proam fields which right now they really can’t do if they’re being asked to supplement these purses at such a high level I think a larger field would certainly do that and a and a cut I think is necessary to have that sort of Friday drama but overall I think U uh they’re they’re I think a marvelous Boon to this era of golf they got a boutique field to them that they should have a bigger field feel to them uh but if we go back and look I think it’s worth taking uh just a quick look at some of the notable shots of the pre seven Signature Events of course this was a nice Sunday great way to start the year in Maui no longer is the wraparound season the way they’re going they’re going with a start and Maui what a start it was a back and forth between sahit theal and Chris Kirk kind of put a damper on things uh as it relates to the chases with that gorgeous shot into the 17th hole and he would win by one wendam Clark I mean a day to end all days on the green it was this was Saturday at the AT&T remember he shot 60 made it from everywhere and pulled ahead by one until mother nature intervened and gave wam Clark the victory in that signature event let’s go to the Genesis and at the beginning of the day hadek matama started trailing but by the back nine everybody was trailing him because his iron play was as sharp as it’s ever been for a man who’s usually pretty sharp in that regard Nice Shot there at the 16 he closes at 62 winds going away by three shots so much talk this year about Scotty Sheffer and how consistent he’s been putting on a golf course where there’s a huge penalty for missing a fairway and how could you beat him you’re not going to beat him here at the oral Palmer Invitational his iron shots like this driving it the way he did he shot 66 on Sunday and didn’t win by a hair he won by five going away and we’ll fast forward to the RBC once again Scotty Sheffer nice par save here at the 15th the par five got tangled up a little bit but he knew that was important nice react by way went in by five oversaw hit the gala and is there a match made in heaven more clearly more obviously than Rory at Wells Fargo here he is on the 15th hole in the final round just spicing it up for fun that put him seven ahead of course he’d make the debacle there at the 18th to win by five but nonetheless it was an exciting finish watching someone run away and Scotty Sheffer in a nail B down the stretch with colore cow great up and down there at the 18th hole to win by one three of the seven Signature Events by the number one player in the world so the cream is rising to the top in the biggest events um full field events are 500 points to the winner 700 FedEx Cup points valuable uh to the champion it’s a $20 million purse 3.6 million uh to the winner and Scotty sheffler has been dominant this season he’s looking for a sixth win on the season Tom I remember talking to you at Memorial you felt like it was coming together uh what came together today just all the same things you know like I hit Fairways I hit greens and made some putts you know nothing really severely different obviously scoring wise just you know it’s getting sharper and sharper and like I feel like I’ve been playing like this you know kind of the last few months um but to kind of keep it sharp and to keep maintained I feel like that’s why I’m on I’m on my eighth week to kind of just keep it going and um it’s just kind of nice to see those rounds kind of come together and you know the next three days just kind of keep that same game plan um whether good score or not score you know just kind of keep it together and kind of keep that sharpening this obviously a tight portion of the season a lot of Signature Events Majors tight together but you said eight in a row was that a cognizant Thing by you hey I want to play a bunch in a row yeah so that was a big deal like for me I felt like my game was there but it wasn’t really showing in tournaments and I kind of sat down I’m like you know what like it’s almost the last stretch of the season and I want to really I feel like I’m playing good I just I can’t for some reason I can’t show it up in golf tournaments and I think that’s the reason why I’m playing a lot more than I normally ever would was because if if you keep if you keep getting reps in in tournaments it kind of keeps sharpening sharpening sharpening and that’s why it’s happening so um you know it’s it’s I’m glad to kind of see it actually come out there turn your back to the hole take a few steps explain what do there just I’m you know I I do aim point when I when I putt so just to kind of make sure you know sometimes with with undulation it kind of changes Direction that you’re going so just that’s the only purpose um no nothing I don’t think anything changes uh you know obviously major week last week and this week it’s just I think it’s the same game plan you know you try to hit the you try to execute the good golf shots um you know I’m learning good rounds and bad rounds you know I I just I keep I keep making sure I keep learning from those and keep adding him to practices and to tournament rounds and um it wasn’t really that easy there uh easy out there today you know it was actually pretty windy but I just I feel like nothing really changes and I kind of really had a really good game plan and just kind of trying to execute um that my game was really really close like you know obviously a tough day on on Sunday but without if if I you know I’ve had a few like two of those bad rounds like at Memorial I had I had the same number but it wasn’t like I was playing terrible it just you know a few things kind of didn’t go in my way and I couldn’t really adapt to it and really couldn’t score well and um I think the the thing was that okay I wasn’t a bad week but a bad round cost me the week but at least like it’s only 20 26 25th it’s not like I’m finishing 50th or missing the cut so it shows me that man my bad weeks are only here that gives me confidence to actually go out and be like you know actually I’m playing well and you know just trying to kind of keep riding this momentum so you say you’re close what clicked for you today um I I just I hit the ball in the Fairway a lot obviously you know this course if hit if you start hitting the ball in the Fairway you can kind of go at some pins and having having some good opportunities and um I wouldn’t say like obviously I putted well you know when you shoot 62s or 64s you got a putt well um and I took care of that opportunity but just you know my targets overall like I I picked really good targets out there with my with my Approach shots and when you have eight iron in sometimes you want to go for the pin a lot but at the same time you just you kind of go into this head space where okay I have this is where I need to pick my target I don’t need to feel like I need to push or anything um and just sticking to that game plan bires what was your best one oh that’s a good question um I think my Birdie on eight was really was a really good it’s you know it’s a tough part three you can’t really feel that win and I picked a really good Target and I I executed perfectly to leave myself a perfect 12-footer um uphill so what would you point to about why this season maybe hasn’t gone the way you’ve hoped it to go um I mean a a big one putting was was something that I could rely on last year um something I’ve tried to get back to where I was um as well as other parts of the game but I feel like um a lot of it can can go back to not putting well uh like I was saying potting well helps free up other things and you know you’re not seeing pots go in and it kind of adds some some extra stress to you know having to you know hit greens or hit it closer um you know chip it close um that circle gets quite a bit bigger once you see some go in um that’s a big part um and and some of it too like I’ve been been close on on driving and ball striking um but we’re not able to take advantage of when you do hit it well um um probably the the easiest way to to point out too is is putting does help a lot um but that’s not always the only thing [Music]

  1. What a time for professional golfers at this level it is….the money is absolutely insane. LIV players are being showered with millions, and now the PGA Tour is doing the same to its top players, and beyond. How long can this last? The ratings are not there, not even for the PGA Tour…and certainly LIV has crickets watching it.

  2. The pga tour is trying to hard to be
Liv. Also sandwiching these events around a major bad idea. 👎

  3. Brandel Chamblee is a bloviating imbecile that loves the sound of his own voice.

  4. Crap PGA signature series with points for the players for ranking but no points for Liv but a carbon copy of Liv. Thats why the PGA is such a Pathetic Tour.

  5. The massively need to re-brand signature events. No buzz behind them, should have kept the WGC model.

  6. Signature events needs to be:
    1. Hawaii
    2. Torrey Pines
    3. Memorial
    4. Arnold Palmer
    5. Canadian Open
    6. Wells Fargo
    7. Waste Management

  7. I hope Tom Kim gets really successful on tour. He seems like a really good dude and very positive, something we need in today's golf.

  8. Best players in the world he says, lol. It's pga only so not even close and tops pga players skip some.

  9. Need to have only 3 signature events – Riviera, Bay Hill and Muirfield Village. Right now there are so many they just create clutter in the schedule, like having "signature" events screw up playing schedules for the majors.

  10. The Signature events are poorly timed! They shouldn't be bookending major championships. That's a NO NO. It lessens their weight when have it the week before a major and the week after.

Whoever thought it was a good idea to have it like that??? Players typically always want to relax a bit after a major, and the week before one, they want to use tournaments as a stepping stone. To me it can lead to fatigue. Scheffler is a pretty good example I think. Winning the week before a major at The Memorial, at a course that seemed nearly as difficult as Pinehurst, can take it out of a player.
