every episode I have a thing with my s’s too than oh thank you make me feel so much better um he is a Emmy Award winner actor filmmaker comedian Advocate um one of the first to really show love to the Pod um and I think for uh Nicks fans the most important out of all that list is he is the the king of Nick’s Twitter you’re really like the leader um you know we have Ben Stiller here so we are very excited and thank you for coming on the Pod it’s very it’s exciting for me to be here with you guys yeah we’re excited congrats congrats on the Pod we’re trying yeah we’re trying I think it’s great I’ve been listening and uh we’re having fun the yeah I like how it’s relaxed and it’s feels like intimate in a like a good way oh thanks that’s the vibr atronic try to portray made us feel good because you’ve been on a lot of sets and you commented on the the intricacy of the set so I feel like we’re doing something right it’s very professional setup here folks can’t see it back there but it’s like it’s all dialed in you got lighting set I noticed a set when I I I haven’t watched it I like to listen to podcasts so I haven’t done the you know the YouTube thing but just seeing like you know the clips when I see the clips it looks very uh I like the Step Brothers uh I I already like the stepb brothers art from the beginning that you’re doing it’s one of my favorite movies too so I’m assuming it’s one of your favorite movies somewhat I feel like I feel like it’s more the the personality even though you’re the older older person I feel like I’m the older brother we go we go down this and you got you guys met in school right yep met met in met in college um and you hit it off right from the No No Rocky beginning very rocky rocky beginning Rocky middle not not the beginning not so because of him mhm it was it was a combination between his dad dad and like him cuz like his dad we talked about I think we talked about it before on episode he was just you know what I mean it it takes him a while to open up or he he wants to put the Persona on like he’s you know the tough guy he seems intense I saw him when I got to say hi to you guys before a game a couple weeks ago he’s he seemed really intense though like really serious now he’s intense yeah but I think once you get to know him he’s more of a kid than me and him mhm right he is a child and my mother raised three children in the house with me my sister and him right when th% but in a good way right some he has his moments he has his moments but uh no he’s intense when it’s time when it’s when it’s coach he’s intense when it’s Dad he’s man he’s a the biggest kid of them all yeah well it seems like you guys have a good relationship I saw that video of you guys shooting the POA shots and seems like you have fun together yeah yeah he he’s a competitor but yeah he won’t he won’t beat me anything ever again what’ you say the last time he beat you was you were 16 17 16 17 maybe 18 um but that oneon-one Pap a shot you didn’t beat me I’m won like a seven game win streak in golf so oh wow I’m pretty much like Superior now there’s like people who run around their house and there’s people like me who actually run the house so it’s not him anymore did y’all know fast growing trees is the biggest online Nursery in the US with over 10,000 different kinds of plants and over 2 million happy customers inside the olive oil oh I mean Olive to make olive oil avocado avocado toast oh my God there is there’s nothing like the father son thing that like it’s definitely like I have an 18-year-old son and I saw when that video I saw you know your dad like that circulated when he’s making you just like shoot again and again and again and I like I would do that with my son and like the first time I go like okay again he just go f off and walk away I mean I literally could not get him to do anything the amount of of times I wanted to do that uh almost to this day some sometimes but you didn’t know but you didn’t I mean I didn’t and you must have also like since he was in the NBA like you had a respect for what he like knowing you wanted to do what he does or did right so you had a certain amount of like okay I’m going to listen to this guy yeah he always said um it’s like a teacher giving you a study God like she obviously made the test she has the answers to the test and are you going to study the study guide she she’s giving you the answers like are you just going to wing it so my dad’s like I’m the study guide and either you can listen to me or you can try and do on your own and so I was obviously you want to use everything you have so right he made it pretty easy Jaylen you obviously grow up you know around a professional basketball player that’s your career now Ben similar situation for you right you grew up around your father who was in the entertainment business you’re now in the entertainment business was it a similar sort of obviously we’ve seen the clips of Jaylen and his father working out and you know kind of grooming him from a young age was that was it similar with you at all well yeah I mean it’s interesting like the sports and entertainment are you know analogy because to a certain extent there’s part of it is having to just like put in the work but then it just gets very like in sports it’s a lot tougher I think because it becomes very binary so either you’re winning or losing you’re getting drafted you’re not getting drafted and in entertainment it’s a little more like you’re doing your thing and so you know my dad he was always and my mom too cuz they were a team and they started out together as a comedy team and then uh they worked together a lot but he was always supportive but I think and I have kids who were also interested in being uh actors it’s such a tough business like I think a lot of the time he was sort of like supportive but also protective he was very overprotective not wanting to see his kids have to go through the you know like all the rejection of being in show business but he was but he kind of went off of my desire like I was so into it I was so like just had a focus that I think he supported that but he was also uh I could tell also that he was like he’s the type of guy like if I got a bad review he would write a letter to the critic you know I mean which is just like you know so embarrassing as for for me you know like but it was came out of total just love and like really genuinely just you know loved his kids so um he wasn’t like a tough dad he was more like kind of the you know super supportive but also overprotective and and then you know when I was starting out my parents I would just I would do you know I was kind of just trying to figure it out you know like I was telling you before like no one was hiring me as an actor so I would you know try to make my own stuff with my friends or and I a lot of times pull my parents in to like do like a you know if I was making like a shorter video or something like that and they were always game to do whatever so they were you know they were great that way when did you realize like this is what you wanted to do for me obviously with my dad like he played and like I always kind of knew I wanted to play basketball but then there was like sixth seventh grade and I was like boom this is this is this is it this is what I want to do like when did you finally like hit you that you wanted to do this I think I was like probably like eight or nine years old and there was a movie called The Poseidon Adventure when I was a kid which was like a disaster movie this boat that gets into like caught in a Title Wave and goes upside down and everybody has to like get out of the boat the boats upside down they have to make their way out to the top and I saw that movie like 20 times in the theater I was probably like 9 years old when it came out and I just knew like I want to do that I want to be a movie maker I want to be a director I knew I want to be a director I wanted to make movies and then I was around it with my parents but just I kept started making movies my dad bought me a super a camera editing equipment and I just started kind of making my own little movies and I I knew from that point on I always knew that’s what I wanted to do and then it kind of like shifted a little as I got older into acting um but for a long time I didn’t want to do comedy cuz you know my parents were in comedy so I was like I don’t want to do that I didn’t want to do what my parents did I and I and I felt like I wanted to be serious filmmaker serious actor uh and then I discovered comedy like but it wasn’t my parents I kind of had to find other people that I you know that I thought oh that guy’s funny not that I didn’t think they were funny just they’re your parents you know so they weren’t cool um and then I saw like people like Bill Murray or Steve Martin you know in those movies and I was like all right you know I want to you know I think that’s funny I want to pursue that um then like I got when I got older I was able to appreciate my parents more I think but um it was pretty pretty young age I just was like that’s all I want to do special delivery from Tommy John let’s see what this holds Jaylen and Josh hope you like our new limited edition second skin product it’s the gold stand standard of underwear Second Skin put in your pants matters in basketball obviously it’s incredibly difficult to make it to the highest level but there’s a fairly established path right you go to a great College you get recruited to play division one you do well there you then become become a professional I feel like for what you do it’s a little bit different you were saying like no one was hiring you kind of had to make your own stuff was that path L yeah I mean that that’s what I’m amazed that too in in sports it’s like you have to be so good at such a young age like you have to be performing at a high level at a young age with a lot of pressure and you know when you’re starting out as an actor you like you don’t know what you’re doing and sometimes you know some people are great right out of the box they you know they start to do well and they figure it out or they have a sense of who they are but a lot of times it takes a long time to like figure out how to do it you know and how to be good I was bad for I think a long time I did a lot of bad auditions I really was like you know really like just not good enough to get hired until I got hired but that’s why I’m amazed you guys like you have to just you know you have to be by the time what you’re like 16 17 you have to be completely committed and be showing enough talent and discipline and all those things to get there for for me it was like took into my like early 20s you know kind of like trying to figure it out and I think I got my I think got my first job like when I was about 20 um and you but I knew pretty like I I quit college I didn’t want to stay in college I was very ambitious and like wanted to be making movies and acting and I was probably too impatient too you were you were all right at 16 17 I was I was solid he got a lot better I was rough I was a little rougher on Late Bloomer he definitely got a lot better late bloomer for sure right but was other people in your family were they athletes too um no not really my dad my dad liked sports but he wasn’t I don’t think was really the best athlete my mom is not athletic really at all so you have a great uncle have a great uncle played baseball for the Yankees oh really um yeah but that that’s that’s really like the only athletic person in the who was your uncle Elon Howard oh my God yeah yeah right so I was a big Yankee fan when I was a kid too so so that was yeah was yeah I’m not as much of a baseball fan anymore yeah but like when I was like 7778 those years I was like going to Yankee St I was there when Reggie hit three home runs uh with my dad he storming the field had a piece of right field that I took home and that was in my room for like two years um so I was I was really into it for a while and then I kind of I’ve had I’ve gone in and out of like sports fandom over the years like there were times when I was really into the Knicks and then when I moved to LA I guess in like I don’t know like 1990 or something like that I I kind of I lived in La for like 20 years and I never became a Lakers fan but I just was more disconnected from the Knicks especially it was actually a really great time for the Knicks in the 90s but I was kind of just like focusing on other stuff and then when I moved back to New York around 2010 2011 I was really happy to come come back and like one of the great things about coming back to New York was like oh I’m going to get to go to Nicks games and get Court seats and bring my kids and so but then it was like a really tough time you know the 2010s or not I mean there were a lot of long there I mean we had Melo and there was you know there were periods of time and you know those those teams but but overall it was like you know it’s been tough sledding until you guys came along now we have Jay Brunson yeah so well I mean I don’t know who that guy is good but there is there is true there definitely is like true excitement about the Knicks now um and as you know like a fan base that’s like really so hungry for it and I’m sure it’s like all the ups and downs of that for you guys like having the Press like just like people the intensity of basketball fans and now with social media too it’s like very different too the engagement right social you should see you should see their DMS oh my gosh they they going they they kill us over everything well how we play if we play good play too good I think they have this emot I me look I cuz I grew up going to Nick games right my dad took me when I was a kid um he had these friends these two guys Freddy Klein and stanos sski who were these season ticket holder guys who I think one of them owned the Carnegie Deli they’re like classic New York Jewish basketball fans you know and they had like eighth row behind the Knicks basket and so we would go and sit in their seats and they would yell at the refs they knew all the refs and you know this was like I mean I literally remember meeting Phil Jackson in like 1973 or something and I’m being introduced to him and I was missing a front tooth and he said hey what do you want for Christmas you two front teeth um I just always remember that but I was so I was like and I would see them yell at the refs and there was like such you know there was like a real connection with the Knicks also was coming off of the championship 73 Championship um and so you know I always was like connected to the Knicks and was was a fan then the 80s when I was like 15 16 I was a huge Bernard King fan uh I saw him I saw him score 50 once and um I remember that he had the back-to-back 50o games and you know he just he was like he was the guy for me and then there were some other like lesser known players I was really into but like over the years then when I went to LA and I disconnected when I came back it’s like you know there’s just been always been a desire to get back to what I think the 70 and the 73 Knicks and the that team was and so you know it’s interesting to me for you guys cuz you guys are just like having to step into that but then when you start playing well the excitement that’s there is you know palpable but then there’s also the pressure right no for me there’s no pressure M personally but you I definitely feel the energy no matter where you are in New York yeah as soon as you walk into the garden you feel the energy go to a restaurant and um and someone sees you they they they just they get excited but um I think the best part about like our team right now is that like we don’t have guys who are like truly like into that like we’re all about our business you know we work as hard as we can we get our work done um but we have a lot of guys who are just like just focus on the right thing the main thing is the main thing and so but when it comes like the fans and when it comes to everyone’s kind of coming together like this fan base this city this there’s nothing that compares to it there’s nothing that compares so when it comes to like pressure I mean they are high stakes but like for me it’s not pressure cuz like we already worked really hard for situation like this is either we’re going to succeed or we’re going to fail if we fail we move on if we succeed we learn from that so I don’t really feel pressure when it comes to like certain situations yeah well that’s why you’re probably able to do what you do cuz I mean cuz I think that’s what every fan is like thinking when you’re watching a game and it comes down to you know the fourth quarter those moments you’re just like oh my like you’re stuff because because you think like what would I do how how do you deal with that and obviously like did you ever see that movie um free solo about that guy who free climbs on the rock climber I feel like you it sounds like something watch it’s a documentary one I think it won I think it won best best documentary a few years ago this guy Alex hunold who just free climbs like l cap ofan with no ropes or anything and right they did like a they did a scan of his brain and there was like something missing in like his amygdala or something that like he didn’t have like the fear you know area the area where fear is was like different on him you know but I think like the idea of like when you’re in those moments of the pressure situations that’s the thing like where people say like oh he’s like he’s clutch he can do you know operate in those moments that to me I think is what every fan is like always amazed with I feel like it’s way harder to watch games sure than playing it like when I watch Like Nova games now it is like just like I don’t know it’s tough like when there’s like a situation like ah I would do that I would do this like you’re like trying to talk to them through the TV MH well that’s what every fan is do yelling screaming at T it’s really worth watching like just cuz like when you’re playing you don’t I say you don’t think about it like it’s just like you’re you put in so many reps like it’s just it’s a regular thing like no matter you know what time of the game it is if it’s you know jump ball or if it’s 10 seconds left in the fourth quarter you just yeah and like things are going by so fast like I don’t think you’re really able to really understand like the magnitude of the moment right but it’s CU it all happens so fast and that’s the other thing when you go to a game in person it just everything goes so fast like that’s what I’m always amazed with it’s like just it’s h you guys are playing like is it even faster than College yeah it at first yeah at first but then once you like you kind of get a rhythm with it the game like slows down like when you’re in the game a game is so much slower than when you’re actually like watching it yeah we had we had M we had male bridges on uh two episodes ago and we asked him about his experience playing in the NBA finals and he said the biggest thing was that it didn’t feel like the finals he was like I watched the finals leading up to it and then I was in it he was like it didn’t it didn’t yeah I heard that he said like it wasn’t like watching it on TV it was just like being in it and also cuz it goes so fast I would imagine like you can’t be like really like you have to be going off of your instinct where you have to be going off of whatever you start thinking too much and then you’re yeah once yeah once you start thinking and like overthinking it’s you’re you’re like everything you’re doing like you’re analyzing and then you it’s just there’s no good going to come out but I also feel like with watching you a lot I was saying like last night that game you know like end of the first half where you like took that three and then you missed it then you ran got your own rebound came and Dr drove and then you like got to the line and like all happens so fast it seems like your game like a lot of it is just like reactive like you’re just reactive in the moment I’m just like a bad out of hell I just I run around yeah yeah you run around yeah I run around I’m like a bull in a china shop so what you say he brings to the starting lineup cardio cardio cardio just but like and there was that like like last night guarding Jason Tatum that’s more exhausting yeah it it’s more I I would say like guarding guarding taller guys are is a little more exhausting I don’t mind running running around screens doing all that that’s not exhausting but when when you’re guarding those guys who like to operate in like the post mid post area and just physical like that’s when like I start getting I I get tired because you have to like handle getting hit handle bumps doing all those kind of things and it’s like if it’s very physical yeah it’s very physical you’re going someone who was 73 72 last night yep and you see he didn’t score in the post he did not score when I get the rebound and I just run down the court like a bat out of hell um that’s that’s when I started getting getting tired but right and and and getting back to like the social media aspect though like I you know if I like when I have something that I’ve made or something and it comes out I’m not like I stay off of social media because I don’t want to like read everybody’s comments about my stuff but like as a ncks fan like I’m like having fun there you know just and I read all the insane stuff and it is ridiculous because it’s imposs like the level of scrutiny and the level of reaction to you know what you guys are doing it’s like impossible to you know if you’re really going to like care about that because everybody has a point of view or an opinion um but then they’re also like I think the fans what I learned cuz I never I don’t really like Twitter and like literally the only thing if you like look at my Twitter feed it’s like only Nick stuff really cuz I just it’s only thing I feel comfortable tweeting about really is like my you enthusiasm for for the Knicks and for the games and then all of a sudden I started like you know doing it while games were happening and uh and I realized oh wow I’m kind of like live tweeting this game and then I and then I realized oh wait a minute like there’s people on Twitter that like are the other Nicks fans are like like expecting me to check in you become a nck fan and I’m so not a Twitter person and also like I grew up with my dad was like a real like he never was like tough on like he was just a really generous sweet guy so like I never felt he never was like okay like trashing players you know like he always kind of looked at Players as like human beings and he always like just he had this funny thing where he just like would connect emotionally with players and and like kind of analyze them that is rare that is R now very rare but I’ll say like I’ll say this about about you like I actually said something about it I don’t know when may have been on the Pod but literally what you just said like you kind of look at the player and like you’re never really negative like I’ve never seen you tweet one negative thing I just I remember like when um when like RJ and quick gu traded you you said great things about them and like it’s just like you don’t really see that too much and so like when I see you tweet like that and I see other fans like like jump on that bandwagon and say nice things as well I’m like this there’s it hasn’t been one negative tweet that I’ve seen come from your account feel I don’t feel comfortable doing it honestly because like I feel like these I maybe it’s because growing up my dad whatever like they’re he always looked at them as like they’re these are people like I know how hard it is what you guys do and like of course every fan out there could never get out on Accord and do do anything like that so just the that appreciation and it’s very easy to get frustrated when you see like a guy missing shots or whatever and so and it’s very easy to go negative on Twitter period you know people just Express themselves in ways that they never would in real life with people the anonymous people too of course you know the one with no pictures um but the level like I think there are fans out there that really really love the Knicks and like re and do come from a very positive place and love their team and want to support that and then they get frustrated sometimes when they see like things happening that or you know sometimes it’s a coaching thing or sometimes it’s a player that you know they go like why is it why is this player do but but it has to come from a place of like appreciation for like you guys are human beings that you know doing something that very few people can do at a level like just the idea of like having to shoot a foul shot in Madison Square Garden like anybody having to do that like Jesus like that’s just pressure right just like and you have to like do it and kind of like do it at different times in the game when like it could the whole game could be on the line but just that level of pressure you know 99.999% of people just couldn’t even deal with even if they even great players I mean that’s the thing there’s so many great basketball players who can’t get to the level of playing in the NBA probably I’d imagine because of the dealing being able to deal with that level of scrutiny the the funniest thing is like when you go to games and like during a time outs when they have like when they bring a fan down and they have them shooting you know three-pointer or you rarely ever see someone go out there and just like make shots like they’re like airballing shots they’re doing those kind of things so it’s always funny because it’s like oh now sometimes it’s kind of like a oh now you see how hard you know now you see how hard it is yeah it’s insane I mean it’s but it’s not re it’s not reality to most people I think it’s right they’re just able to like kind of go okay I’m just going to vent and do my thing but you know it’s not that to me that’s not like a real appreciation of like what’s actually happening out there yeah I want to go back to something you said Ben because you said that when you you know before you put something out you kind of stay off Twitter because you don’t want to see what people you know say Obviously Sports is very objective right you either win or you lose art what you do is very subjective so here you are you know a master of your craft before you put something out do you do you get is it a feeling of like nerves or like what is it that makes you not want to look on Twitter um just not see mean things people say I mean I love you know I’m just I’m sensitive like so I you know I after 30 whatever years of doing what I do I you know you just you know the cycle is going to happen you’re going to make your thing you’re going to put it out there people are either going to like it or not like it fans will you know go to it or not go to it critics will have their point of view um but it’s always the same thing but yet it’s still it’s for me it’s still the same you know kind of experience like if you’re not sensitive enough to uh you have to be sensitive I think on a certain level to do what we do you know to be in touch with kind of like you know being a person emotions and all that stuff and some people are are better at it than others in terms of dealing with the that that part of it I think I accept it but I also know like for me for my process I love being in process I love like right now like I’m making our show I love going to work tomorrow I’ll go to work I’ll be directing you know I I’m very happy doing that editing putting it together um and then finishing it and then I have the thing that I’ve worked on I’m like okay this is the you done the best I could do with this project and then it’s out in the world and then people are going to react the way they’re going to react um so I I kind of it’s great when people love something I think sometimes you can get uh POS you can get uh feedback uh criticism that that can be be helpful but you know you have to kind of know at a certain point like what works for you in terms of how you kind of go through and do your thing I would my kind of going off that uh actually taking a quick right turn what was like that moment that thing that thing that you said all right this is it I’m here I’m like in I’m in my Prime this is this is it like what was your moment what was like the thing you produced or put out there that you were like like I’m this is me this is it like that that was that people responded to not even that respond that you put out and you were like I’m him I’m I’m him I’m him I mean I think for me it was uh well I always had this kind of like two things going on which was the directing and you know writing and creating stuff and then acting and I was kind of doing both together for a while like when I first started out and I kind of gradually started to get work I was on Saturday Night Live for like a really short period of time and then then moved on and did an MTV show and then did a show on Fox a sketch show and I was starting to get like some success but um for me I think when I started to make movies uh and the first movie I directed was this movie Reality Bites back in like ’92 and that was exciting cuz it was like oh I’m directing a movie um but I think like the first movie that I was in that people connected with with was There’s Something About Mary which was like 98 and that was like the first time I was in I’d already been working for a while and doing my thing but that was the first movie I was in that people responded to and you know was ended up being a big hit and I think that was when I was like oh wow this is like this is definitely like I guess I’m I’m doing okay my parents loved that movie I watched it with them yeah I I you watch it with your parents cuz I watched it with my parents and that wasn’t a good experience the only scene that the only scene that I felt a little awkward in was was Cameron Diaz’s hair yeah or the scene before that where zipper no yeah well yeah the bathroom creating that um and that was and I remember being at the premiere my mom was sitting behind me and that scene came up and I was like oh I forgot about this scene and I just kind of stared at the screen and didn’t really look at her after but that was like probably like the first time I like okay this is like you know somebody wanted to hire me for another movie because as an actor you also never feel that security where you’re like you know where the next job is coming from and then all of a sudden I was like okay you know seems like people are wanting to hire me yeah feel like you see a lot of actors spend most of their career acting and then transition to directing or producing but you said you were kind of doing both like from the beginning yeah cuz I was trying to create I I love film making since I was 10 years old I wanted to be a director but then I also was trying to create my own work so like when no one was hiring me I had to go off and make like a short film or make an audition tape for Saturday Night Live which got me hired or um that’s really how like I kind of started out and started doing my own thing and and really honestly when you’re making movies you kind of have to create your your own like it’s really like what direction do you want to go in and I think whether it’s writing or collaborating with writers and directing it’s very much you’re yourself you’re you’re creating it on your own so you have to just figure out what you want to say and I do have a question for you right because I’ve I’ve always been fascinated about this the can you give us like an Insight of like the zone that you go into when you’re about to when you know when you’re acting in a scene or what like what do you what what go through your mind mentally like as you like process like how you going to you know say this line how are you going to react this way how how are you going to show you know with facial expressions that like the zone that you go into I mean I think it’s maybe it’s like a little similar to like if you’re in a game where you’re like you want to be in a reactive place where you’re not thinking about for me it’s like you’ve done the work the preparation work for the character you know what the scene is you know the lines you know what the idea of the scene is where you’re supposed to be as a character and then you just want to for me I just want to be in the moment of the scene so it’s kind of like trying to figure out a way to get comfortable with like all the cameras and and you you know the lights and people staring at you and all that stuff which you have to kind of let go of and just sort of like somehow try to be in the moment and be connected with who you’re in the scene with and once you’re in that like you’re in that and you’re connecting you know that’s all that that’s there and then you’re hopefully reacting to what’s being given to you in the circumstances and that’s your job as an actor is to kind of like deal with all that other stuff and like figure out a way to Let It Go and it’s a constant process of trying to get comfortable with that which I think changes from scene to scene and really where you’re at in your life as you go into work um for me as a director that’s why I like directing too it’s kind of like trying to help actors get into a place where they can give their best work and allowing them every actor has a different process there’s no one way to do it so it’s just trying to create an environment for the actors that they can really be in the moment and be real and be in that place place so there’s no like I said there’s no rules you know um and that’s that’s that’s probably the toughest thing is just kind of getting to the place where you can let everything go and just and just allow yourself to be in the moment what’s it like being an actor with directorial experience almost like being a player with coaching experience like do you find yourself analyzing situations differently do you look at the way that the director is like running the running the set yeah I mean the director is really like creating the whole experience you know and every director does it differently and you have to really trust that director’s Vision like it’s so subjective and I I wonder if that’s like working with a coach where every coach has a different you know style but like it’s it’s very subjective directing is about having a point of view so every director is going to have a like you look at a scene and go well I would have shot it this way but this director is directing it so I want to be a part of the way they see it because I’m trying to help them realize what what they want so there’s it’s like it’s almost like you don’t want to put your point of view onto what they’re doing and you just want to kind of be there for them as an actor to help support their vision and some directors are really great talking to actress other directors don’t even talk to the actors and they just put the camera somewhere and they let you do your thing and that’s part of their process is they want you to just do your thing some directors do 50 takes like literally 50 takes of a scene some directors will do like two takes like Clint Eastwood’s known for like doing like one or two takes um but I work with directors who do 50 takes too and it’s you know and not telling you what they want and that’s because they just want to let something happen so I’m curious what it’s like for you guys uh if I can change the subject playing like playing for tibs because I knew it as soon as as soon as he said as soon as he said like doing a take like 50 times I knew I knew the tip style it’s it’s not 50 but he uh he is a man of repetition mhm he is a man of repetition and he he like I he’s always going to get the best out of you like there’s going to be times he’s going be yelling and screaming and Comm and Asia we’re going to be like all right all right but he’s going to prepare you he’s going to have whatever question you have he has it answered in two different three different ways um he’s the most prepared coach that you will ever see so he like when me go into like game painting and stuff like done done he has everything done any seriously any question you have like what if he does this what if he does this all right if he does this boom boom boom again we walk through it and so we walk through all our adjustments we do all that stuff so like I said a man of repetition right and you’ve known him like since you were a kid surpr for way too long right and way too long the interesting thing to me is like now because players with social media and podcast like you kind of get sometimes get a sense of players and like what they’re they like but like the last Bastion of mystery are the coaches cuz you know cuz tibs isn’t like tweeting and he’s not doing podcast so you know you look at that guy I’m like fascinated like because he’s so it’s so he’s so intense on the sidelines during the games and it’s like one of my most favorite things is just like reading his lips during games well you don’t you don’t have to read his lips you can hear them yeah you can hear them from uh it’s aming California like and but like you know it’s really interesting because you just like Wonder like well is he’s probably not the kind of Coach who’s like going out there and saying like Okay just go out and have some fun right go go out there and have a good time nah no he’s not GNA say that but it’s like but does it but you have to figure out how to I mean you know known him but like it’s different playing for him than playing for I don’t know who was coaching Dallas when year was Rick car car and Jason kid right like like you said like every director every coach is different so with but have you had it like with coaches where the coach doesn’t get you like the coach and you have to kind of figure out how to I’ve yet to be understood by a coach right I’ve had a lot of coach and teammates and teammates so how do you deal with that um I think it all depend like this this is my what seventh year in the league tibs is my fifth or sixth sixth head coach or I think it was so for me it’s it’s interesting just cuz like that like everyone has their own style he’s actually him and Stan Van Gundy are very similar um in a lot of in a lot of ways but um it’s kind of like you said like there be times where I’m I’m wondering something I’m questioning something I’m just like you know what like this is the scheme this is what we’re going to do cool but then there’s other coaching where it’s like like tibs he had you prepared but then if you have questions you know and you feel not comfortable with something you know we can make adjustments sometimes coaches just like I get that but this is what we’re doing and that’s it so it’s it it takes a little bit of getting used to and I think you know part of it is the longer you get in the league you know the more you your voice is a little bit more you know sturdy what Josh is the person on the team where he makes all this noise he complains about whatever and all this stuff so he’s in the corner like yelling complaining whatever he has to do and we all just like let him burn out and then once he’s done he’ll come back to us and then we just continue toing what we’re doing but like he’s like the little bad kid that you was leaving the corner and then then what will he complain about everything and I mean everything he will complain about he complains about the refs that’s for sure complains about the refs uh at one point during the season he was complaining about his minutes to complain now he’s playing now he’s playing too much minutes in his mind right is think about me like I just have to like yeah get I have to get whatever it is I have to say I just have to get off my chest just so like almost canel but tips but tibs gets you he gets you in that you’re in the rotation you know what I mean like I feel like it he from the outside it seems like either you’re in the rotation you’re not in the rotation so the players that he you know wants to put in the rotation are the ones that are yeah I mean that that’s seems to me like the the biggest vote of confidence funniest part about it is like you’re such a tibs guy yeah that’s what’s so funny and like know like whatever tibs wants me to do like I’mma go run through a wall to do it but like there’s this times I’ll just be yelling you know I’ll have Joe Eng Les on me who’s like the most unathletic player in the NBA and I’ll just like be in the corner with like not in action so I’ll just be you know I’ll go into the bench I’m like I got Joe Eng Les on me you can’t do anything he’s unathletic he can’t and then like I say it and then I’m like all right cool then I go back into the Huddle um and he’ll let he’ll let you do that yeah yeah he he he lets me just kind of just cuz he knows like I’mma just let Josh just kind of like Jaylen said just go the corner and yeah just yell and curse and you know throw whatever and then he to come back and whatever I ask him to do he’s going do it 100% but it does seem like watching the team that that everybody does seem to understand that you know like when you watch like what you’re doing because I don’t know I just feel like getting back to like the idea of like the emotional connection that um fans have with the players and I do think like New York fans are really um you know they’re really connected to and what’s going on that they feel it I was telling you that earlier like they feel it when somebody’s like really working hard right they really feel it like when you’re and a lot of times you’re put in the position like when you’ve been short-handed of having to do like a lot of different things right in terms of just and like but yet it always feels to me like everybody kind of knows like you know what your job is on the team and when you’re short-handed you know what you have to do and I don’t know it just feels to me like you guys are kind of in sync that way yeah I feel like we’ve been playing together for obviously a long time and um everyone on the team I mean obviously we made moves but like I feel like our chemistry has helped us like on in the court because we I mean yeah like I said we’ve made a lot of moves but like we genuinely like each other and so when you have that that’s that helps with like on the court like you you learn things faster you get to know each other faster um the things you do in the court are easier because you genuinely like each other so um that’s a big plus it’s not like a a thing you see every day in the NBA I think it’s more common now like everyone feels like mhm they genuinely like each other on teams but no there’s no Bad Apple on our team yeah yeah and even having to deal with like new personnel and the trades and stuff it feels like even even then even before that there was like there’s never been like a a bad apple and all all those guys kind of just fit in you know seamless in terms of work ethic you know how they approach a game you know to you know to joking around and I think you know that’s the big thing with us is like we we have a good culture and you know obviously credit to to Leon and tibs West um you know fad over here helps um but uh yo hold on I you got you guys cannot keep laughing every time he makes a dumbass joke it’s not funny don’t be mad at we have a studio audience today we man studio audience and I was every every time he say something I say Jo get crickets I’m sorry I done talking I’m done talking I I didn’t say anything today but I I was actually the one of the Ben the one of the main reason why I was really excited for this episode yeah because the role you had you know your mega mind right and we call him Mega Dome so it was mega mind Mega Dome on the Pod together at the same time I feel like that’s like a historic moment in you know in our lives so but no the guy the guys that we have have it’s you know every everything just kind of just fit in well just in terms of off the court personalities and then just just on the court you know in terms of we got guys that can shoot play defense you know you know shot makers decision makers and I feel like we have where would you fall in that category um me you didn’t get any laughs Jaylen yeah I’m I’m not asking for Laughs I just I genuinely want to know like when I can’t get laughs I make it personal no for for for me um where I fit in I think I fully like we get fully healthy team I’m the guy that’s going to go out defend rebound you know play hard you and you’ll shoot the three when you need to yeah you’re not afraid to shoot the three I feel like you you shoot a lot of Threes that need to be shot yeah thank you I mean that I mean that in a way like why are you looking at me I always told you to shoot the ball you always tell me to shoot the ball but like and you you tend to hit like important ones a lot of time like the the thing with me which I don’t know I like I felt like my game changed a little bit like college I wanted to score when I first got into like the league like first couple years you know I just like I want to I want to play defense I want to score like that was the main thing and then I got to when I was in New Orleans and I was with Willie Green he put me in a position where it was like I have it was a little bit more of like a you know playmaker decision maker role where it was like I can get into a slot and I can attack the rim or shoot or pass and do all those kind of things and I I felt like I started to enjoy getting into the lane and like making assist or finding Guys open doing those kind of things so now you know I I find a little bit more joying that and I think it’s it helps to a certain extent sometimes it also hinders because I’ll catch I’ll catch the ball and I might be open and I just I’m not even looking at The Rim because I’m trying to find an action to get someone like someone a shot or someone involved so you know that’s my style and it I think it it it’s helpful for what we have but sometimes like you know it might hinder cuz sometimes I’ll be wide open and I’m just like mind is going like you know 100 miles hour like where where where can I get get where is Jay Lo where is Tay where can I get a handoff or ball screen or whatever and then you know I might be open I don’t shoot it and sometimes you know that might be the best shot we could get on that possession that’s when I say shoot the ball yeah then that’s when Jaylen curses me off and not shooting right but I feel like that changes it’s like that’s such a tough decision a lot of the time because for what you’re saying like wa you know sometimes it is the right thing to do when whoever’s on the floor they need you know we need a like open shot go for it you know and yeah and it’s like it really all like it just it really all depends on just like the you know personnel and you know where you are in the season where your team is where were other guys like for example like the first you know when Quinton was on the Ben like the first couple games on the bench like know he was running with you know we were running together and I was like my biggest thing on my mind I’m like I don’t care if I if I shoot or score the ball like I’m going to I’m finding him I’m going to find him and trying to get him open shots so it’s like you know certain you know things that like now obviously we’re little depleted and you know God’s H so now it’s like okay I got to try to change that into okay I got to be a little bit more aggressive and you know Sometimes good sometimes I take some terrible shots but it’s always about finding like the the metag ground and that’s always like the constant but I do yeah that’s what I feel like people pick up on like that I always feel like that’s what you’re doing like trying to sus out in the moment what what is needed you know especially at a time now when it’s like the team is obviously dealing with a lot of injuries so and but it always feels like you guys are I don’t know as a fan like I always feel like you guys are always like I was saying that game last night you’re always putting everything into it and I think that’s what fans appreciate is like when you just feel like the players are just like totally just giving their all and smart too and you know last thing I’ll say about that like I I just think that the fans like you said really appreciate like like how hard we play and the things that we give to the game may we don’t take things for granted but um I think it’s important like how we we hold each other accountable like after games they ask their questions I can easily say like things about like yeah like I may played well but like we didn’t like I don’t really talk about like what I do when it’s a loss or when we win when it’s a win we won as a team we when we lose I’m like all I could be better because I need to be as a team we can be better but like I I think from my point of view I feel like my teammates respect it when like I always make sure like I bring my teammates with me when we win and when it’s like I’ll take the blame when we lose just because I mean I want to hold that burden because I want everyone else to have that confidence to go out there and just play the same way next day I feel like mentally I can hold that for my teammates and I I I think Nick’s Twitter and Nick’s fans like appreciate that because our mindsets never satisfied yeah no that’s you definitely get that you and you feel like you guys are just like have a goal and you’re serious about it but you also have chemistry and I don’t know there’s like a it’s an interesting thing because like back in the day we didn’t have that interaction with the players and I feel like in terms of just like getting a sense of their personalities and who they are and I feel like that really comes through now more um and it didn’t used to be like that you know important I mean the the the lead like it’s it’s all the product I think JJ said it on his podcast but like the players are the product the game is the product and you guys the more that I feel like you let fans into your life and and who you are as people it creates that affinity and and it uh it brings them closer to the game which is ultimately what you want yeah it’s also just you’re very accessible like because I feel like you guys have this quality of like an underdog team too that never quite get gets the respect that they deserve and the fans feel that like the fans are so on you know so with you in that way we like come on these gu you know and and that’s been a thing a thing this season I think with you you know it’s like this guy come on this guy’s 1A and it’s like you know Twitter boy like somebody says something like that like it just lights up because people are like so behind you know what you guys are doing so every every single person on this team has been doubted at some point in the NBA right I think that’s what brings us closer together we all we all have been put in that situation where we’re like he’s good but I don’t think he can do this I don’t think he can do that every single person on this team has been through that and how much do you guys engage with that on like a day-to-day basis no but like we joke around a little like with each other a little bit about it but like we don’t like we don’t put too much into it yeah like I you think about it internally but like we don’t really talk about like yeah that stuff like I just think that help it fuels us a little bit to just be better every single day that’s why we have maybe that Underdog mindset but um yeah we just go out there we work as hard as we can yeah and we we know we don’t really got to say much cuz Nick Nick’s Twitter they going Tock twiter going to defend they they going to be they going to be on us but they going to defend us like they exactly they they they defend him to to the last I saw a tweet it like Nick’s fans Nick’s Twitter they were fighting with each other about like something going on with our team and then like another person from another fan base said something and it went crazy and then they joined forces and went right at that guy on Twitter and so it’s like yeah you can joke with your family but then when someone jokes about us the family comes together and yeah we’re tacking as one yeah Ben we’ve talked a lot about them and who they’ve played with and their careers who was your starting five of collaborators throughout your career oh god um I mean you know for me like people I’m a fan of that I’ve worked with are Robert dairo for sure because just I grew up watching his movies and being able to work with him was pretty exciting um will frell he’s he’s probably the center right oh my God I have to get the positions um or maybe Vince Von at Center uh Vince at Center he’s tall drinking water yeah um yeah V I mean Vince like funny Vince Von there’s no one you know just like such a unique tone to what he does um yeah I mean will Owen Wilson you know one of my best friends so he just makes me laugh uh how many people is that will owow Vince [Music] will oh gosh [Music] um wow you you got the ruthless cuz you over there counting I was just going to let them just actually I thought you you guys were going to like ask me about this and I was oh I’d say like Sandler probably you know Adam Sandler um like just he’s so I think he’s just amazing so funny he’s great guy most loyal guy in the world uh you know just loves what he does and you know anytime I’m with him I’m I’m enjoying that we were looking up your uh filmography priority coming on just like for research purposes and and we we saw we forgot you were in Happy Gilmore we like see Happy Gilmore oh my God nuring yeah how the mean orderly tortures his grandmother so funny I would say OG I anobi he he he was he was really disappointed that I didn’t say him by his regular name so OG anobi wanted me to tell you that his one of his favorite movies was a long camply really oh wow wow and I was like how old was OG when that came out I don’t know that’s like probably before now probably 27 27 yeah that’s like least yeah that’s but the funny thing I was like I was like oh I was like what about dodgeball I’m like dodgeball was it right he was like oh I don’t know if I really saw that one you know he’s from London so you know they’re a little different over there but you know what I mean wait he’s upsetting every city he we’ve said Indiana what else have we said this IND it was just he said he said he said another city last time they love you in Indiana yeah I’m a big I’m a big he’s going after London no I love London London’s one of my favorite cities I mean I’m a Chelsea supporter love Chelsea okay all right Val valid Val North London Arsenal Tottenham no that’s that’s terrible that’s ging up a little bit you know yeah just saying but now we’re talking about dodgeball dodgeball is my one of my favorite movies growing up myor movies that was was a fun one that was DodgeBall came out in was it ‘ 04 maybe yeah we that was like a crazy year for you like I think like dodgeball Star Ski and Hutch uh one they all came out like in the same year anchor man yeah I mean I just did a little thing in Anchor Man but I was yeah doing a lot of movies back then um Dodge wall was fun though cuz like it was sort of like nobody really thought anybody would watch it or the fact that even people remember to this day is funny to me because it’s such a ridiculous movie The man that really that basically like started the oo and now you now you see ESPN I I think it was like a week or like a month that ESPN has like I don’t even do they call it the oo they call they do they they still do it pretty crazy that was Ross and Marshall Thurber who wrote it and directed it and uh he came up with that one of the one of my favorite scenes from that movie the one at the very end I think after the credits when when he’s let himself go when he let himself go about my milkshake Chuck Norris Chuck Norris yeah yeah that one of my favorite scenes My Milkshake you never seen that one it’s I know I know exactly what you’re talking about it’s just like milk and like breast it’s like it’s it’s a thing it is a thing oh really okay I wasn’t thinking of that but that’s the part that’s what I’m trying to say the breast milk right you had that thing about tasting breast milk yeah from from the from the you were you were you’re a dad you’re a father did you taste or or did I want if you don’t want to answer did you at least wonder what it tasted like first of all I was never breastfed as a child okay because I my era that I grew up in it didn’t happen with my mother um but I never no than you I was just man thank you man you were so sure of it you were like every new parent I said 80% he’s probably 20 you know 80% always want you know what I mean cuz like you know what I mean it’s it’s just a wonder I say I didn’t say everyone tasted it but I feel like a lot of guys Wonder like oh I wonder what one of these days on the Pod we will we’ll show the taste test okay yeah we’ll show the taste test yeah I don’t know what you thought I was say Shannon come on we have a video of it somewhere yeah ah I think you picked it over almond milk if I’m not mistaken I did it was a little sweeter than alond milk I’m telling it’s I mean this tweet is going to like it’s going to follow me to like my dying day but there was there is either was or is a country somewhere in like Europe who are you know adding that to the to the menu like you know as a milk substitute nutritional supplement can can someone fact check that is that where is that happening country in Europe Europe yeah somewhere somewhere in Europe it’s true because he sent it to me yeah I sent it and I was just like hear me out and you know what I mean like I did not out all right while while you’re looking that up Ben do you take the crown as the leader of Nick’s Twitter would you happily take that Crown I mean I’m thank you for even offering it or saying it’s even a I I feel like I can’t because I’m really not I’m not you know I’m I’m sort of a casual fan really in a way I don’t really understand the game enough there’s some guys on Nick’s Twitter that are so smart about the game you know that uh I mean there’s like my buddy sea Gettys I hate Sean who just like like his love for the Knicks is so insane and he also understands the game so I think I maybe you know I would not take no I wouldn’t say yes but you could be like you could be like the face if you want like like it it really happened like you can lead the Army yeah I’m I’m I’m happy if you’re saying so I’ll do I will I mean I I’m always going to be a supporter I feel like now like even when I’m working because like we’re filming you know I will put the game on while I’m filming which doesn’t make people happy the people I’m working with but I have to have the game on and I do feel like I have to at least like put one or two tweets out during the game just to like at least let’s go next before the game and then you know the other thing is the only you know we’re talking about like criticizing in not criticizing players the only people I have no trouble criticizing are the refs but I mean I have no problem and that Houston call that insane call like I really triggered something in me if you like look at the tweets that came out of me I was like it was so upsetting to me and I felt like those the rep like it’s so clearly like a huge huge mistake that they made what’s going to happen with that is that being challenged still or I have no idea but and I know you were you were amazing because you just said like first you said great call next question next question great call now you I think then I heard on the last podcast you were like it was you didn’t say it was a bad call you said it was like what you call inging I said that the referees are have a really tough job and right I love what they do night in and night out I really appreciate you guys so let’s just let’s clip this one right here yeah but I but I have no trouble criticizing the refs because I feel like they they really do sometimes it just feels like they’re just so off in what they doing and I know they’re you know they’re doing the they’re for the most part they do a good job but it seems like the inconsistency sometimes in games is insane I think they’re great just I personally think they’re great I think they have a tough job that that call literally cost the Knicks a win and it was an ridiculous call it was an awful call well also because you see what like I mean look certain players just like get more calls too and it’s very clear for Nicks fans that you’re at that place where you should be getting those calls no question I’m just out there doing my job complaining about nothing I’m saying as you can say I’m saying as a fan it’s very clear I’m saying this I don’t care what he just said with what I’m saying about not wanting to be the leader of Nick Twitter that that that made you the leader of Nicks Twitter right there fact that was like he was doing the politically correct answer and then all of a sudden yeah flip flip the switch ready to go right no problem with the rest yeah I feel like we should start to make a Gund me for our technical fouls get you as like team we actually need to calculate I know we don’t yeah I know it’s about I’m not going to say I think it’s what Tex or or or fines Tex fines same I think you’re at 40 Texs in your career oh seven years that’s not bad that’s less than 10 Texs a year hey good job that’s that’s not bad some that’s the bar that’s some got rescinded you know what I mean I’m not going to I’m not going to say what you said but there was a time a while ago that you got a tech for saying something to a ref and then after the game you called Dave your agent you were like yo Dave can we appeal this and Dave was like all right I’m on it I’ll get back to you and then he’s he called you back he’s like Josh I heard what you said this is not getting appealed there’s a z% chance getting there’s certain ones I try to get appealed and like they would like cuz you can appeal you know you know some the text and you know there’s times where I’m like yo I should I should get this appealed I this this shouldn’t cost me you know whatever money that it cost me um and then there’s some where they would be like yo you know there you know a rep from the mbpa would be like yo so you got a tech do you want to peel this and I’ll be like nah that that that that was that was well deserved I got I got my money’s worth on that one but there must be certain reps that you know will call it that will call it sooner than others right or that yeah it’s like it’s like yeah it’s like everyone like everyone has their own like you know fuse or whatever and like at least normally for me it’s like I’ll normally snap or something because it’s like heat at the moment competitiveness and then normally like probably 90 90% of the times I’ll come back to wrestling be like yo like that’s my fault like you know whatever but 10% of the times I don’t do that that’s one of the most interesting things about being able to sit close to games is hearing the ation that you guys have with each other and also with the refs because there is a lot of I mean it’s almost constant back there always something being said oh my God so this is a new segment we actually have not done before that the playmaker team just threw in it’s called just like we drew it up um Ben and the guys have some fun explaining these movies and shows using basketball terms so we’ll see how this goes we can go with Madagascar we can do this at Madagascar Knicks Edition we’ll have Jaylen be Alex the the lion um I like that yeah that’s a good one um Alex is very New York you know he was like in the Central Park suo real New Yorker maybe Mitch is the giraffe Mitch is the giraffe um the elephant don’t really remember who the elephant’s characteristics but like a big strong guy like oh was a hippo oh that’s for sure Julius Jada pink Smith yeah oh but the physique physique Marty Marty’s Chris Ro Marty would be maybe he could [Music] just who would Marty be Dante or OG that’s a tough one I just know that I’m gonna say I’m gonna say OG OG okay and then I’m for sure Skipper not Skipper uh private the penguin um um that’s you that’s me I’m that’s he he’s my favorite character in that this this how he Skipper yeah Skipper you know that was actually the director of the movie did that really yeah that guy has talent yeah um we’ll do that and then we’ll have oh Dante could be Skipper oh yeah he he would be a good one who’s King Julian um oh tibs tibs and then move it move it mhm yep would you would you guys ever have tibs on the podcast yes will be on after after season okay I got after season that would be a good that’s going to be good one that would be a good episode that would be the Penguins of Madagascar New York Knicks Edition all right oh never mind I say now I feel like Isaiah could be the one that has uh the penguin that has the massive throat that he like spits up everything cuz like he’s he’s good at a lot of things so like you never know you know in need of something next one spit it up yeah Jesus Christ man oh my God dodgeball dodgeball they’re actually a team so I guess there’s uh um but white Goodman’s kind of a villain so he has a villain who would white Goodman be Jimmy Butler Draymond sorry I I I know political J is not going to get in this but I feel like not for us but I feel like for like Nick’s Nick’s fans definitely after last season for sure oh yeah Trey young he really triggered something with Nick’s fans for sure he did that was that was there was a lot of beef there Reggie Miller level potentially I wasn’t here I don’t know I wasn’t here I was on outs look that was painful that was painful but it’s just funny cuz like I like I mean you know Trey Trey’s is cool is cool so it’s just funny you have that and then Jimmy Jimmy’s an interesting dude but he has a lot of like really cool like stuff going on but it’s just like all over the place yeah well it’s just I think yeah when you see like I saw an interview with him he seems like a really great guy and Trey too but like in the lens of the Knicks and like the playoffs and the you know you know Trey doing you know his thing he really like incited the fans and he seemed to enjoy it too Tropic things is not a movie that’s going to get green lit today it’s not going to get made today so when we were operating that time it was uh I feel like there’s a lot of films that like during that time off like the office could never come back today but it was one of the best shows ever yeah if the office could come back you got to meet uh twight yeah Ry wils that was that cool for you he came to the game the other night right yeah I was so hyped yeah you know what I mean probably one of the funniest shows ever for sure yeah it was I could you know I feel like I can’t be too big of a fan cuz whenever you know sometimes my wife said would say that would be an ick for her like if I’m just like fanboying so you know how do you guys deal with that like when you’re when you see people at the game like I know you say like hi you like check in or like Spike or like you know know interject talk but like how do you deal with like all that energy of people watching like do you tune it out at certain times and let it come back I try I try and tune it out I try to like once I’m like once I run on to the court for like layup lines like right before the game starts I’m like locked in I don’t really I don’t take pictures like I’ll say hi to people but I’m not signing any autographs CU I always feel that like watching is like I don’t want to like get in the player like you know I think just different different players and like they like he’s like locked in like me I’m I’m just chilling like mess around talk like like if you’re like if you’re cour side you know tomorrow like I’m sitting there like have a conversation with you or whatever but like you know normally like we’re fully healthy I’m coming off the bench as soon as I step on the court then it’s like locked in but like cuz I see players that do talk to fans like LeBron or like you know people like just have like an interaction in the middle of game but I I don’t you know I don’t understand like is that sort of like just sort of to like let out some air and kind I feel like that’s like like you’re you’re locked in like you’re in a Zone like when a situation like that happens like it’s just like you’re in the Rhythm mhm like I feel like you’re you’re good like you’re in the right mindset like you have like an interaction with like a fan or whatever we get into some fan questions let’s do it at 17 Regal which night the museum movie is your favorite I think the first one you know um they were all fun to make but the first one was really fun because we didn’t know if it was going to work or not and I loved the idea of the movie because I grew up on the upper west side I used to go to the like I cut school and go to the Museum of Natural History so like when they and I think I think it was like Will Smith had been offered it and turned it down and I got the call about this I was like this sounds great I mean this is like like if I was 10 years old i’ love this movie and I was like I kind of just love the idea of this movie as an adult so I I was so into it and when we were making it it was really fun because we didn’t know if it was going to work or not and then came out people people liked it and so I think the first one for sure at Andy barbs what was your favorite years to watch the Knicks well I have to say right now is definitely yeah best time in a long time um but other than this season which this season has really been a like a special season um I’d say uh for me like probably s when I was like really young I think like those Bernard there were a couple of years Bernard King years that were really exciting like 8384 8485 even though team didn’t go that far I was really So Into You Know into that team at the final attempt based on Persona which Nick’s player past or present does Ben still think could cut it in Hollywood oh man um like on this current team what do you say cut it in Hollywood at the final attempt I don’t know what you mean I mean to be an actor who would you cast in one of your movies um I mean I think you’re funny yeah J fun too Jaylen it’s you guys both have a sense of humor and I was yeah I have a little bit little bit sense of humor yeah for sure all right we can be at a like little coffee shop hey um I would say that you you do have like this kind of like like a a sense like a kind of a sense of humor that I think other players haven’t you you have it just like you’re fun guy that you’d want to hang out with you just don’t care yeah you seem to have like a sense of like how absurd everything is sometimes I feel when you’re getting Morey yeah it’s dry it’s very dry keep a straight face you were like they were like what does Josh har bring the starting lineup and you looked him dead in the eye you like cardio cardio yeah yeah there’s nothing else but that’s like a new thing like I haven’t seen ever seen a ncks player who has that sort of sense of humor I would say so oh at Jaylen Bruns him that’s a that’s a great Twitter name yeah what’s your top three favorite movies you’ve done oh god um well I mean like in terms of like making the movie and the experience I’d say Tropic Thunder was like one of the most fun cuz we got to shoot it with a bunch of guys who I loved and it’s a great cast and we were in Hawaii and um I’d say like that probably was one of my favorite experiences and then I’d say probably meet the parents with because of dairo working with him and then uh and Zoolander I think Zoolander was making the first one was a little was challenging but at the end of the day I was like it’s been nice that that movie kind of had its own life because when it came out people were like what is this and it was just like this weird character but Zander started as a skit yeah and then it turned into a full feature yeah it was the VH1 fashion Awards back in the I don’t know what it was like 96 97 98 something like that what’s crazy is I feel like that’s something you’d hear happen about happening today with social media but there was no social but it it went from a skit to like a full-on movie yeah it took a few years to make it happen but it was uh it was really cuz you know like that charact yeah we did it two years on the VH1 fashion Awards and then like somebody had an idea like oh that could be a movie movie and it took like three years of like developing the script and uh I think it was also like after um Austin Powers came out when Mike Mike Myers did that I was like oh that’s like I thought that was such a funny movie and I was like oh maybe we could take Zoolander and do something like that it’s okay if the answer is no is there any chance you’d hit a blue steel that was first one missed that was perfect that’s please C that thank thank you uh Airbender 106 when are we getting season two of sance so sance is we’re shooting it now it’s coming soon and we don’t have an actual date but I’ve been working on the second season of it for a long time since we had a strike an actor and writer strike back last year it went from like May to like October so that cut us off for a while and we’re going to be shooting till probably like the end of April and it will be coming out sometime after that soon but yeah I have one quick question on Severance though real um you went from being in and making comedies most of your career to something that is like incredibly serious and actually has a lot of like commentary what was that transition like for you I mean it was really fun because I like I said I always love directing and I actually love serious movies and dramas and so the first thing I directed I wasn’t in was this thing called Escape at damura which was a a limited series about a prison escape a true story that happened like in 2015 and I had so much fun doing that and by the way one of the actors in that Michael Beasley Used to Be a Player NBA and his son Malik oh is uh the the one that okay yeah so son Malik Malik Beasley the Bucks Malik Beasley yeah bucks Malik Beasley oh wow that’s cool his dad’s name is Michael his dad is Michael used to play he played internationally too he’s one of the actors like me and be not Michael other Michael bees the other who was a Nick for a short period of time yeah crazy other other Michael Bas yeah um Michael Beasley senior to Malik’s dad is great actor and uh he worked with me in that um and uh yeah that was the first time I directed something that was like kind of a drama and I love that so much and so I just love I love directing I love acting too but for me like and Severance kind of has humor in it too but it’s like a Weird Science Fiction thing too so for me like I’m I’m happy because I feel like anything that has if you’re doing something it’s always going to have humor in it and sometimes you can have room to be funny and things that are serious even and more because in a comedy everybody’s always expecting where’s the laugh where’s the laugh but when you do something serious and there’s humor in it it’s kind of like you know extra and uh I feel like there’s more freedom within that so at hiip Hop unor moushi I’m hosting a date what should I put on meet the fuers or dodgeball hosting a date how do you host a date uh interesting wording I mean if it’s a date I would like go to dinner and yes maybe uh I don’t know like talk and I you know we’re definitely in the the the Netflix and chill era exactly right so if you know is it a date right what is it not a date um but you know meet the voger probably would be like it’s more of a family movie so maybe dodge might be more fun Ben you played so many hilarious roles which characters was your favorite I don’t know I’ve had I’ve had you know it’s fun like Zoolander was fun because such a ridiculous character uh White Goodman there was a movie we did called heavy weights where I played this uh mean uh guy who runs a camp for kids who have to lose weight but again it was a Disney movie from the 90s that would never be made today both your parents were in that right both my parents were in there yeah um but I think you know playing some of those ridiculous villain type characters are always fun Ed scope gambles most memorable Nicks game you’ve watched oh god um can I guess yeah would it be that Bernard King back toback 50s yeah only that those didn’t happen those happened on the road yeah I I actually looked it up like but it was the Bernard King 50 and I I think it was against Indianapolis but I don’t remember exactly that was probably like the most exciting um but I mean there have been so many over the years say that’s a tough one honestly like I’m more invested now as a Nick fan than I’ve ever been in my life no pressure but I mean I enjoy the games now like on a just because for whatever reason like I I enjoy them now more than ever we got the side talk question of the day let’s see what what we got yo yo yo Josh and jayen what up this is Danny the guy who called down KD my Salk question of the day is if you had to choose one player to come to the New York Knicks who would it be that your answer it is a Tamp might be tampering might be I’ll modify the answer if we can bring back any retired Nick Rick Bronson no I’m good no I think we we’ be better off without him um any retired Nick I mean the one answer I would say is mello it’s just easy but if I wasn’t going to say Mello he would fit fit in well to this oh yeah yeah he would oh yeah do top three Melo I gotta do JN star I love John Stark Starks Patrick Ying Patrick you guys would be crazy with Patrick Ying right now yeah that’ be a good three I’m happy with that three um I happy with that three who would you I mean there like it’s fun to think about all the guys you know I mean it’d be interesting like a guy like Anthony Mason oh he bring this I don’t know he he might be suspended for half the season half the season yeah at least half the season I guess also defensive player on like one of the best Nick defensive players who would you say in Nick’s history because you guys play I mean that’s kind of your identity right I mean star is up there for sure yeah I would say him because he had the guard MJ yeah MJ Reggie yeah I would say I I’ll I’ll tip my hat to him how would uh Latrell briell fit in on this team oh we didn’t say Allen Houston either straight he would be a more talented Josh that makes sense mhm like he has like offensively is just like so skilled like same hairstyle same attitude I feel like my hair is a he definitely have the attitude for sure defin the attitude yeah I feel like my hair is a little better same hairstyle same attitude I I put New York in my braids I feel like that kind of puts me above hairstyle and they told you to take it out it’s coming back soon are you what what about your hairstyle cuz you had the other hairstyle for a while yeah no I got that was good it was cool switch up but so big his my bad I’m about to say that in my head uh I don’t get super stitious but um you’re a little stitious yeah sometimes right this dude is an idiot man I can’t stand this dude uh yeah nah I don’t guess really no I thought so I thought I would and then like in Orlando I had that really good like first quarter so I was H maybe it’s not really a thing we did lose that game but yeah so guess see what your priorities are picture me scrolling we’re going to react uh we’re going to react to the funny internet moments of the week so let’s see what we got T Swift yeah that’s my son when he was he was 18 now when he was uh we went to a game and Taylor Swift was there and Carly Claus yeah and uh then I took my daughter once and when when she was about eight and there was like a picture in page six or something of her just like like so board mine and so we never did a game together what year was this the one I mean that’s probably like I don’t know that’s probably like eight years ago oh yeah oh yeah so that was when we were that was last year right was last playoffs during the playoffs and everybody was getting so excited we were shooting sance in New Jersey and that’s like a bunch of guys on the crew we were like literally that’s why I said I was watching the game while we were filming don’t tell anybody and uh everybody was just going crazy yeah it was like a little bit insane that was right after I think it right after we one in Cleveland yeah oh they they must have ra raised the uh the rim okay that’s the game you got dunked on Atlanta that’s the game that’s the game when jayen Johnson decided to baptize you we were in Atlanta twice so this this could have been another probably it that’s probably the game that’s that’s the game for sure it could have been another game no that’s the game at Ben Stiller yeah that’s me Jaylen Brun got Clyde to watch The Tonight Show for the first time ever this is a special year yeah so did you hear like Clyde was calling the game you wouldn’t hear because you’re playing the game but Clyde basically goes I watched this show The Tonight Show for the first time he literally said he watched The Tonight Show for the first time to watch you on it so that that blew my mind that that wal Fraser had never seen The Tonight Show before but he it’s funny cuz he just like what he Clues into he’s in his own world yeah he’s in his own world Hey Now You’re an Allstar get your game on go play hey now you’re a rock star get the show on get paid and All That Glitters Is Gold only shooting stars break the mold oh my God I’m might I’m be I’m going to be completely honest with you I was cool calm and collected for that all went out and the guy is like all right you’re up I my heart started beating it’s yeah oh my like the interview part was easy he was really cool he was super nice um but that part I don’t know why it was just like always it’s always nerve-wracking going on those shows to I find you know because people are you know it’s like it’s The Tonight Show all of a sudden you’re were like supposed to be entertaining or whatever um I thought that was funny though yeah it was pretty cool yeah good job pretty cool um I thought that whole yeah I thought it was I know everybody got a kick out of seeing you on that it’s like been a cool moment for you the last you know yeah it’s been it’s been fun yeah it’s been fun and you had fun at the All-Star Game yeah yeah yeah everyone played really hard it was really good um um yeah comp I don’t know what the deal is with the defense we talked about it in the last episode I know I heard you guys talking about it I don’t know it is a dilemma I guess it’s a dilemma for sure um I do I do think the one on as a fan the one-on-one would be cool to see but you said that they’d have you like the money would have like yeah it just not I just I’m not sure people want to do that because of the what because like they put like so much into the season into the season and if some if we did like a one-one tournament and something happened right it’s over thanks like some like but do you think about that when you’re playing it all because you can’t think no no you don’t think about when you’re playing it’s only something that you would think after the fact yeah right like everything’s fine till something happens and all we got we got to change something yeah that’s it yeah someone did say that uh they they responded they were like would would people go harder if it was Us All Stars versus like vers uh International All Stars it might be they might that’ be that’d be pretty cool probably not got you got to get you got to get yic to to Really play hard yic goes out there scores like four points and like does like a wi winner gets a horse oh yogic is going crazy he’s going crazy oh oh another one this this is Josh missing eight eight different high fives and high-fiving himself they could do this to anybody though right I mean so funny to see all the different evolutions of it from like your rookie year until now yeah were you aware of this this yeah I’ve seen people tag me this a lot I think I think it’s Force I don’t think he’s no honestly cuz like sometimes like you know like there’ll be a play or something something happens and I’m thinking like I’m anticipating like oh this dude’s about to like he’s walking past me like he’s going to like you know see my hand out you know and sometimes it just doesn’t you know like Zion instead of you know looking to his left he just looks straight and I’m just thinking like he’s going to see my hand here and just he doesn’t so this is craziest one I think this is the craziest one no this one I wasn’t like it wasn’t actually a Dap I was like I was tronzo ball yeah I was like yeah I was trying to ask him I’m like yo what are we in what are we in yo what are we in like I was trying to figure out what the offensive play was what is like the um sort of like the common wisdom or like what like where the players on the opposite team helping them up these days like do you we don’t do it you don’t do it right M I would help another player up itens every once in a while like I’m not going to rush to help a player up but like if I knock him down he’s literally right there and there’s no one around me I might help him up it’s nothing personal like when someone comes to help me up I just say I can’t sorry my teammate’s going to help me out right nothing just it’s US versus y’all right now yeah I mean I’m just here cuz I’m a fan of you guys and the podcast and team and excited about what you’re doing it’s nice to connect with you and uh relay the uh you know the fan support you guys have which I’m sure you know as I guess the unofficial I don’t want to say that I’m King Of Anything But as someone who tweets a lot about I think it’s official now as someone who’s you know connected to that fan base I’m just excited what’s going on and what you guys are bringing to New York so thanks man sure appreciate you yeah appreciate you we um appreciate you coming on this was this was a blast we appreciate um everyone that’s tuned in um thank you for listening to another episode of the roommates um make sure you guys continue to tune in and and grow with us and um you know it was amazing having Mega Man and mega dome in the same room together um It’s a Good Year special year and I I you know I think you guys are going far so appreciate it thank you oh

  1. I love this show. They do a good job. I love my knicks. win or lose Great game 1. Thibs would be a good guest; Mitch, Van Gundy, Spike, more Knicks players would all be good guests

  2. TOMORROW IS NOT PROMISED TO NO ONE! THIS IS WHY THE KNICKS MUST WIN IT ALL THIS YEAR!
WHY DREAM OF TOMORROW WHEN YOU CAN DO IT TODAY 2024 AND GET THAT NBA CHAMPIONSHIP RING AND BRING BACK THE GLORY OF SUCCESS TO THE POOR AND HARD WORKING PEOPLE WHO LOVE THE NEW YORK KNICKS!

  3. Josh Hart just completely casually dropping that his uncle is Elston Howard. Elston Howard has a plaque in monument park, Hes like a big deal for yankee fans, apart of yankee lore and history. Josh Hart just way too casual about how good of a baseball player his uncle was.

  4. This is my fav episode so far. Ben Stiller is so good at asking questions while providing his own background. King of Knicks Twitter!!!
