Maybe the filthiest two seamer ever thrown.

[Music] strike there was one pitch I remember and this was in the Eric Greg game um where you threw a two seamer to uh I think it was Moises Aloo back door maybe it was remember that at all yeah that pitch was absolutely nasty uh The Hitter before I don’t know he must have hit a ground ball but that ball was scuffed so bad it had like a little bit of a hole on the side of it and you know back then you know if you got a ground ball to short you got the ball back and you got to use that ball to the next hitter now as soon as the ball touches the ground they give you a new one but uh yeah that was just a case where the ball had a scuff on it and uh you know that’s why you have to learn how to use a scuff when you get one so explain this to people because I think that’s a great Point um the ball how how do you make a ball move with a scuff uh well as a rule it’s just opposite the side of the scuff yep so if if you want to sink it obviously you want I’m right-handed so I want the ball you know facing the left-handed batters box and then you just go ahead and launch it and throw it the way you’d normally throw it and you just get a little more sink on it but uh yeah I remember that pitch because uh I couldn’t wait to use the to keep using the ball and I think the next hitter came up and fouled off the first one out of play and it was like okay well okay all things are fair again so I was talking to Manny Ramirez last night on a at a FanDuel thing and he said I want to know how Greg Maddox made the ball move the way he did like it was cartoon whiffle ball stuff so let’s let’s see these pitch grips see that there yep just a b two seamer like everybody throws you know I think uh the key to throwing a two seamer is to have an athletic delivery and good alignment depending on which side of the plate you’re throwing to I think a lot of guys go like this when they throw armide two seamers and when they try to throw a two seamer a away or glove side they go like this and they don’t throw it the same way they aim it with their hand so you know I think you know one of my keys was if this is my delivery when I go away I got to get over here and throw it the same way so I think that’s how I was able to make it sink on both sides of the plate and I think uh when you explain that to to pitchers that have a hard time throwing it glove side I think they they they get it and they really start to improve on that did you do anything sped like what finger did it come off of did you do anything unusual hopefully it came off my middle finger you know I tried to throw it off my middle finger and I threw my cutter off my index finger and threw it like a slider you know hand right there and just launch it and uh change up I try to throw off my uh ring finger

How in the hell does he so accurately remember a random sequence of events from a game like that. I'm not even sure if I ate breakfast yesterday or not.
Greg looks like he's ready to pitch even during the interview
Love how doesn't really show you the grip, dude ain't giving anything away even in retirement
Yo that pitch is crazy
One of the greatest all around baseball players to pitch, the man was a defensive demon, could hit as well….winner
As a youngster bedore i was old enough to start rootin for my hometown squad the texas rangers i was the biggest Braves fan just remember Glavine Maddox and Smoltz and they were just unreal but Braves never had the offense to back up these superstars
Come to find out hes filthy himself…
"Yeah that pitch was absolutely nasty"
I'm glad Maddux even recognizes how stupid that pitch was. He shouldn't be humble about it.
Maddux and Pedro Martinez were my favorite pitchers to watch.
Young pitchers would be much better off trying to emulate Maddux and Glavine rather than trying to throw 100mph fastballs and wind up having Tommy John surgery in high school or college.
Just mentioning the hitter before hit a wicked groundball and it was. Maddux gold glove legend. Just so nonchalantly snagged it, turned 2
4 Cy Young’s
18 Golden Gloves (all-time MLB record)
Crazy
My dad hated his guts, but made sure I had a good 2-seamer in my pocket because of him.
Love learning from the GOAT!
In my day, he was the best pitcher ever. No wild blazing fastballs. Just painting the corners. He was almost unhittable.
Maddux is a savant
if you look at the entirety of GM's career, he made the best of throwing pitches that "looked" like strikes, but not actually strikes. locating pitches that would be so tempting to the batter that holding off was impossible. all the while knowing that the location, velocity, and appearance dictated that the batter could not do much damage with it. Steve Carleton did the same
This to me makes what Pitchers today do even more impressive to me. I don't want to argue that Maddux wasnt great but could you imagine what Mason Miller could do with a scuffed baseball?
Is it too bold to call him the greatest control pitcher of all time?
SIMPLY THEE BEST PITCHER
I SAW 👀 PITCH ⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️
Mike Scott was using this pitch before maddux, its simple to learn, I learned it and its just finger pressure on your index finger to move like a screwball
He was my favorite pitcher growing up in the 90s
I’m thankful for TBS broadcasting Braves games
you can tell he's being vague about the pitches, still holding out.
Dude was nasty
This dude must have been juicing.
Alou was asleep at the switch. How do you not suspect something and ask the umpire to check the baseball before taking a whiffle ball sinker for strike three?
Niekro tossing that nail file is hilarious
I think he was using the same thing. Everybody else was using but okay
He was a very technical pitcher and one of my favorite of all time.
As a kid, i was an Astros fan, and the braves bullied my team too much. It wasn't until later that i was able to appreciate Maddux and any braves player in general.
