Yeehaw this week we’re here in Nashville for another episode of Hang Time and who better to have than our very own Southern boy Harold Barner from the Four Aces get up yeah nice Harold not bad can I get in there Harold congratulations you just had your second child welcome him into the world yeah that was awesome Grayson uh what’s life been like as a father of two especially with a newborn well I haven’t been there uh so he came home on Tuesday and I flew here on Wednesday morning wow so and obviously there’s nothing I can do um obviously try to be supportive but no it’s been good uh a lot of laughs a lot of what a lot of laughs a lot of laughs well I mean I’m laughing but I don’t think she’s laughing I don’t think she’s laughing but I’m sure she’s very supportive of you come out here to play though right I think those things cost a lot of money and this is my job so it’s pretty simple they are they are very expensive oh you’re telling me I know I know feel you huh people say they’re not they’re like oh congrats on the kid I’m like yeah congrats all right um how do you think your your toddler is going to handle the little one I don’t know he’s on the way right now to soon for the first time so it’ll be it’ll be interesting I don’t think he’s going to take it well no no man he’s like me he likes attention yeah so it’ll be it’ll be interesting uh seeing what happens um I wish I was there to see it but it’s going to be funny yeah well Amanda’s got her hands full right now so yeah Liam’s pretty crazy listen you got to you’re going to have to make this week worth the while so maybe maybe a w maybe a win uh let’s just get it off the first tea I’ve been grinding lately so uh just keep the expectations low and do my job and have fun doing it um obviously haven’t played well this year so I just want to get back on track keep doing my thing eventually it’s going to work out speaking of of the grind and speaking of of going through a difficult time like that challenges in the game of golf which every golfer goes through what are some of the things that you do or you’re trying to do to sort of improve and get yourself out of that and play better golf um the main thing when you you know before I’d play all the time so we would like I’d be able to like go play golf like these are things that are happening Under Pressure that aren’t working when you only play 14 weeks it’s kind of hard to know which really is happening till you yeah till you play so just figuring it out I’ll get it right eventually uh that’s what the best do just try be as resilient as possible but from a mental standpoint though that’s easy like that M part easy yes because you don’t it requires no strength in like working hard you just got to think it like you just got to wake up every day even when you’re not feel feeling it and be like hey I got this this is what it’s about and I think I can do that like the power in your mind is incredible we just choose not to use it we always use it as like either you’re a victim or an excuse and I think that’s what weak people do so here what it is so suffice to say that self-belief is your superpower I would say that would be every person that’s good at anything in this world that would be their thing that’s a pretty darn good superpower I want to have it you do any secret you literally there’s no secret you got to think it first yeah it’s not I love it I love it well speaking of of struggles and challenges the Four Aces you guys are currently 10th in the team standings which honestly surprises me and I’m sure a lot of fans uh what do you think it’s going to take now that we’re on the back end of the season to really get the four aces up pylon oh I think it’s pretty funny it’s not surprising they did everything the rules started changing as soon as the aces started winning every tournament so I don’t think it’s surprising at all so they did they made all the rules to try to make it more other teams could win and yeah so no it’s not surprising but it’s golf like you play bad like I’m just titer people ask me like oh you’re playing bad no sh I know that yeah like I don’t need you to tell me that my job is to wake up and be resilient and get to work and golf is not an easy game you know yeah but it feels easy like why would you play I know but hard work doesn’t necessarily always result in results it does just time cuz what happens is people work hard and like I’m not seeing the results then they start tinkering and then you run down this Rabbit Hole of like like just bad news like you just wake up keep doing your job whether it’s in a month 6 months a year it’s going to pan out where does that where does that resilience come from where does that mindset come from did it come from your dad because I know he was a and he is a huge influence on your life I would say life in general you have your own experiences you have people that are really good at things and you ask them for advice you take a little bit here take a little bit there and then you just like you figure out what works for you and uh it’s been it’s been okay right now so just going to keep doing that I read somewhere that you said one of the biggest blessings you have is having a great dad 100% yeah cuz I think and also being a dad yeah I played really well once I became a dad yeah cuz decisions become easier you know like think about the best restaurants in the world they the menu is like really small yeah you go to like a cheap restaurant they got 90 options right is to help you make decisions faster cuz if you spend all this time worry about de what kids do for you or no they do like like anything you have to do where you got to be is it’s easy to make that decision hey well the kids got to be here it’s not like well I could go do this I could go do that right right um well what I want what I wanted to ask you is if there was something you you would impart to your kids the one main thing that you want your kids to learn from you what would that be oo there’s a lot of things I’m thinking about I’m trying not to laugh uh I would hope you try to get a serious response out of there’s nothing serious about that’s true anything in life because it’s too it’s too short but if I can steal one thing uh I think you should enjoy it I think it’s hard to enjoy it because people are telling you what you should do trust your gut make a decision because as long as you’re not harm anyone else it’s going to work out whether it’s soon as you make the decision down the road it’ll pain out it always does yeah I love your attitude about life and about golf in general you know what’s crazy is the only thing we can control fun fact to the day you’re like a guru dude I’m not a guru I just really believe so I don’t really care what anyone else thinks about it I love it all right let’s watch you hit the second shot here on the 11th is five long [Laughter] Harold long oh I can get it there though no but just hit a ball name 11 Gerald Gerald Gerald this is about the same Pace as the Grove huh oh we are at the Grove the other Grove all right you think we could get the music better haral okay Harold hit it straight hammered as you mentioned earlier you just got here on Wednesday so obviously you haven’t really seen the golf course as well as maybe you like that do you think that works to your advantage no I don’t know I I don’t care we’ll find out on Friday like that’s what I’m saying is when you have a kid the decision is easy hey I can’t go till Wednesday all right cool make the best of it so I went to this place and practice and like I got my work done and I got here I worked at it and sea Fairway hit Fairway SE green hit green if I hit it solid I can play anywhere in the world nice I like it uh there’s a party h on the 15th in case you weren’t aware I’m not aware cuz I just asked you but uh I’m super excited I just are we pick oh good shot look at you career City baby it’s a it’s a flip wedge Harold it’s a flip wedge 15 yeah matter if the music’s loud enough and the song’s right my heart rate gets too high and I can’t focus think do you think you’re going to maybe have a chance at a whole one no I have zero chance of a whole in one I’ll tell you why cuz when I I really like having a good time you know what’s weird I haven’t picked that do we get to pick a song do you know I think it’s your I think you definitely get to pick a song but I’m assuming it’s the same one that you had in Adelaide oh I got to change that up which one was that me that let’s call Con let’s go and get this right uh I I had a few of I had one that no one would knew in Australia do you know who jcole is you told me that yeah and like no one knew who it was and like he’s like a big rapper in uh from North Carolina so it’s kind of what up hey do we get to pick a song on 15 did you do what did we get to pick a song on 15 yes oh bro bro all right I just I didn’t know that I got to bring some heat we’re doing oh I don’t have my password on Teamworks so I get the notification that I Got a notification but I can’t open it all right I’ll I’ll find something good all right find good let me know and played rap in Australia I got see what we got are wait wait speaking of wait speaking nope that’s it we’re doing Kendrick lar yes speaking of music and you seem obviously very passionate about it what’s on your playlist you I was just about to say that uh so when I was in college my uh teammate my roommate loved Grateful Dead growing up I’d never heard of Grateful Dead sounded terrible and Bill Walton died the other day and Grateful Dead John Mayor they’re on this like big tour yeah and they did this tribute to him and uh and he uh this one Grateful Dead song comes in and the other day someone’s like you’re a dead head now and and every time everyone refer to my teammate they’d be like you’re dead head I’m like what a dead head so I I just it was just so ironic that now I’m like downloading this song I’m like I called the another day I was like bro I’m so sorry like I apologize for everything I said about you what’s in your ear though when you’re warming up I don’t listen to music you don’t no so I’ll listen to music in the car but not like not like in my ear cuz I like to hear the sound of the go but not like can’t do it no you can’t do it like a speaker is fine but like I like to hear the sound of it I don’t know it’s kind of weird I’m curious what’s one thing we don’t know about Harold VAR third uh I’m allergic to shellfish and I love oysters and oysters are not a shellfish fun fact dang um I had probably 30 oysters last night and if you were stuck on an island somewhere and you had to pick one teammate to be stuck with who would that be uh I don’t even know pick one no how long do I have to be there well I don’t know no no no that’s got to be a part of the question cuz then it makes week a week I’m going with Pat Perez Pat Perez why cuz we’re going to have fun we’re going to enjoy the last two days I got to go for a day for a day I’m going with DJ cuz he going to fly his private out of there and if I have to go for life I’m going with Patrick Reed cuz at least he’ll like we’d be broke he’d be like we still got to do this he’d keep you on track oh that’s awesome all right watch show you going to hit here man probably a chip that goes higher and I’m messing with you God you know you know what’s funny I had this guy they asked me how many gloves do you wear around and I said I was like a turnament I was like one and this guy on the comment said it said something like I mean Harold’s just turned into just an I wanted to comment but I can’t stop laughing nice oh what hey hey what the what is that that hey you said it if it came from me I would have got in trouble all right one final question let’s talk about your foundation I know how passionate you are about giving back to the game because of how much it’s given you what are some of your goals for your foundation oh help people without it being about me because then it it just costs money to do it and like we’re seeing a lot of success that’s not related to golf I mean golf has like changed my life but when these mentors and these mentees go do things together it’s a most organic thing that can happen in your life that like can really change your life having two having an individual that cares about you that’s not your mom or dad MH yeah it’s easy and then you know yeah it’s cool cuz that’s how my life got changed but like it’s even better when you can give it to
